Dotcom case could take years
In an article on wired.com Judge Abraham David Sofaer said he was ''troubled'' that the files of 66.6 million Megaupload
customers were being kept as part of the US government case against Dotcom.
"It's really quite outrageous, frankly.
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10813260
That would include more than 130 computers and hard drives seized in the raids on Dotcom's multi-million dollar mansion in Coatesville, north of Auckland.
The lawyers for the US Government argued Dotcom and his associates have access to some documents, including emails and their bank account records.
They said that under US law, disclosure is only granted once the accused appears in a US court.
Lawyers on behalf of the US Government also said they would not be able to disclose all the information in the 21-day period required.
They told the court there were over 10 million emails seized and "voluminous'' financial records.
FBI agent Michael Postin said in an affidavit that the items seized in New Zealand alone are estimated to contain more that 150 terabytes of data.
To give an idea of how much work was involved, he said it had taken 10 days to copy 29 terabytes.
Mr Postin said copying all of the data could take two and a half months. He said some of it could not be copied because it has been encrypted.
Dotcom request to drop charges a waste of time - US Attorney's office
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10809964
Dotcom's lawyers claim FBI has no case
Papers filed in US attack actions in NZ by Crown Law and say no crimes committed.
Pressure is building on Crown lawyers after the Kim Dotcom legal team filed papers in the United States that could lead to the FBI case being thrown out.
The papers say there is no case against the Megaupload website and ask for charges against the company to be dropped.
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10809796
It is the first time lawyers acting for Kim Dotcom and his co-accused have filed a formal defence against the US megaupload charges.
Kim Dotcom's legal team have asked United States courts to throw out charges against his Megaupload company.
Papers filed in the United States court state that the FBI have never formally served papers on the file-sharing company accusing it of a crime.
They say there is no ability for US courts to remotely charge the Hong Kong-registered company with a crime. It stated the
FBI had acted outside the law when it inspired raids across the globe which led to the company being shut down and its assets seized.
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10809245
Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom will move back into his rented $30 million mansion after bail conditions for him and his three
co-accused were relaxed further by the court today.
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10808100
Dotcom wins more time in music studio
The latest moves in the Auckland District Court today follow further allegations of Crown blunders in the case.
A two-day hearing in the High Court at Auckland ended with chief judge Helen Winkelmann ordering the Crown to come up with an
explanation over why evidence was given to the FBI to take back to the United States
New Zealand judge was praising the German online tycoon for being "upfront and transparent".
"These gentlemen have displayed a willingness to abide by court orders. They have been upfront and transparent."
The court heard FBI agents secretly copied data and sent it overseas without telling New Zealand authorities or Dotcom's lawyers.

Eugene Kaspersky said that he believes Apple is ten years behind Microsoft when it comes to security. Speaking at Info Security 2012, the Kaspersky Lab CEO and co-founder stated that his company has been seeing an increasing amount of malware aimed at Macs and that it was "just a question of time and market share” since "it's always been possible to develop Mac malware".
Kaspersky also believes that Apple hasn’t fully grasped the nature of the threat

https://www.zdnet.com/blog/security/kaspersky-apple-10-years-behind-microsoft-in-terms-of-security/11706

Apple needs to step up its game.
“Apple is now entering the same world as Microsoft has been in for more than 10 years: updates, security patches and so on,” Kaspersky said. “We now expect to see more and more because cyber criminals learn from success and this was the first successful one. They will understand very soon that they have the same problems Microsoft had ten or 12 years ago.

I'll 2nd that.

I'd also think this was good more for durability in shorter term use. Unless it really takes off so all drives are calibrated to read/write to it, there's no expectation or assurance you'd be able to find/use a compatible drive just in the near future. And look at zip disks, the larger floppies, video discs, VHS tapes, 8-tracks, & so on -- even if all new DVD drives were calibrated to use these new discs, sooner or later DVDs are going to go away too I'd imagine.

Thanks, Hotdoge. :)

If this DVD product actually makes it to market, it would solve many of the problems associated with data archiving.

A way to erase such data will also be needed.
