Thanks for the update. If you're not sure whether a game has already been posted check the free games synopsis or use the search engine. (I've not updated the synopsis since week 100. a job I really need to do. I'm waiting for the outcome of the legislation relating to privacy as i may have to re upload hundreds of images so may as well do both jobs together. :)

FreedroidRPG is an open source role playing game

The game tells the story of a world destroyed by a conflict between robots and their human masters. Play as Tux in a quest to save the world from the murderous rebel bots who know no mercy. You get to choose which path you wish to follow, and freedom of choice is everywhere in the game.

FreedroidRPG features a real time combat system with melee and ranged weapons, fairly similar to the proprietary game Diablo. There is an innovative system of programs that can be run in order to take control of enemy robots, alter their behavior, or improve one's characteristics. You can use over 50 different kinds of items and fight countless enemies on your way to your destiny. An advanced dialog system provides story background and immersive role playing situations.

The game is complete, fully playable, and can provide about 10 hours of fun. It is still being actively developed, and help is welcome in many areas. People having - or trying to acquire - programming, map editing, or writing skills will find FreedroidRPG to be an exciting, fast-moving project in which they can fully express their creativity.

http://www.freedroid.org/

The FreedroidRPG development team is happy to present FreedroidRPG 0.15. FreedroidRPG 0.15rc1 comes almost exactly one year after 0.14.1, and brings a lot of improvements: more than 1700 changes were made! This release was done by the usual suspects but also our four Google Summer of Code 2011 students, as well as many people who made their first contribution to FreedroidRPG.

Below is a condensed list of the changes that were made for 0.15.
Engine

A new way of commanding your army of take-over droids is available: Multi-Bot Broadcast. Now you can issue one command to all of your droids that are on the same map level, making management of a large number of bots much simpler.
Loading a saved game saw a dramatic performance increase.
Armor rules were improved: armor gives you damage reduction. Hit/miss is handled separately.
The Network Mapper in-game program has been added: It displays all the enemies on the current level on the automap for a short time. Remember, you need to have the automap enabled and turned on (default key TAB) to use the skill!
Positional audio was implemented: now you can tell where and how far away that pesky droid is!
The level editor interface was improved, making the process of level creation much simpler and more intuitive: map labels, enemies and their relevant information can be placed, moved around and edited inside the editor and using the mouse, rather through a text file.
The user interface now properly handles various screen resolutions and aspect ratios (this is still a work-in-progress however).
Damage is now calculated and applied to NPCs only when the weapon actually lands, greatly improving the feeling of the slower weapons such as the sledgehammer.

On September 21, 2011 GAOTD provided the AthTek NetWalk Enterprise Edition which has been placed in my Startup folder for immediate use.
I'm somewhat surprised - and concerned - to see all the links that are in contact with my PC during a normal day.

It was therefore a real pleasure to receive an email from AthTek:

Dear NetWalk User,

I'm glad to inform you that we have already released a new version of AthTek NetWalk on October 18, 2011.
Please view the new features and free download the latest version from here: http://www.athtek.com/netwalk/version.html
...

I installed the upgrated version 2.1.29 in the same folder as the previous program
and the registration is still valid !

Thanks a lot, AthTek !

- Ben

Hi, hotdoge, I doubt that you can register a new version with the old GOTD pass word and reg key. You know, that updates are not intended - usually. Only very few developers will allow that.

. Microsoft stealthily inseminates Firefox with its Bing toolbar add-on

Chalk this one up as 'a bit weird', gentlemen. This week, on Patch Tuesday, Microsoft pushed out a patch that ostensibly 'improves homepage category functionality' for its toolbars (Bing, MSN and Windows Live). The thing is, as you can see from the screenshot above, it also installed an extension in Firefox! Without asking!

Jeremy Collake sent us another great message :

#199

Although the promotion has ended, I intend to offer special discounts to GOTD users who missed out on this deal. Also, existing users who activated in time can get updates or reinstall the product here at this link. Simply reinstalling or upgrading will NOT affect your activation status. Uninstalling the product WILL though, so be careful. Also, be careful with Registry Cleaners. Preserve the HKLM\ProcessLasso key.

I already have it; (a very good friend recommended then purchased it for me). Great program, that guarantees a lifetime of updates once you've purchased a licence). I hope many giveaway follower follow suite and support this great developer. I know he said money isn't important, but it could go a long way to financing more great software from this guy. Thanks for a worthwhile piece of kit. :)

I really don't think they will, and that's not meant as a criticism. I'm neutral on this subject. From what I've seen in the past, GOTD usually makes a blog post either when they have a plum coming up - like they did with Online Armor - or when they've hammered out a deal with a developer who has a lot of programs to offer GOTD, like Paragon. You may have seen that Bitsum only has one other offering - an executable compressor. Jeremy may offer that. Hopefully he won't have the problem of trolls whining because it's specialized software. Anyway, I have the feeling that GOTD will just let the success of the giveaway speak for itself. Again, I'm neutral. I'm not sure what I would do if I were them. Hopefully, Jeremy will get some business down the road from recommendations and our members who need to upgrade or reinstall later. That's probably the best we can hope for, but, obviously, that's usually the best case scenario, anyway, when a developer has only one or two products.

Well don't know if the team will respond but I sure did. He is a great developer who actually cares about the people and not just the money. GOTD rules states he doesn't have to offer support but he did anyway which really shows his commitment to his software. We definitely need more developers like him.

Not only were we very happy with Process Lasso (and the support the developer offered during the giveaway) - but Jeremy Collake, from Bitsum Technologies, and creator of Process Lasso is quite clearly happy with GiveawayOfTheDay following his successful promotion on Friday.

Follow his blog:

Now - when will the GOTD team show any reaction?
I'll follow the GOTD blog ;)

To Whiterabbit-uk: There is a website, http://freecycle.org, that is very popular in the U.S. and allows anyone to join a local 'chapter' (or two) at no charge. Its only purpose is for members to post 'WANTED' or 'OFFERED' items to the rest of its members, which helps to minimize dumping unwanted stuff into landfill [one man's garbage is another man's treasure!].

I checked and there's a link for the UK: http://uk.freecycle.org/, which has additional links of interest. Maybe you could post your older components (except, of course, those floppies) on it . . .

I believe a lot of Machine Embroidery sewing machines still use the 3.5" floppies to enter the patterns into the machine. I don't have such a machine so I'm not positive. That indicates a wider "side market" besides "pure" computers.

Those machines are expensive and I can see the users not wanting to buy a new one just to get a different entry method. Many are far more expensive than PCs.

The above posts just go to show, even if manufacturers stop making floppy drives many computer enthusiasts will always have some spares lying around. I', sure even when present systems have been superceeded by something new we will still have a couple of the things hiding in a corner. I too have spares which I've been loath to part with for many years even though I no longer use them. Most of my spares such as old graphics cards,MoBo's, cpu's, memory, psu's, HDD's and sound cards tend to get thrown out after a few years simply because they are no longer compatible with newer systems. all my AGP cards have now ben thrown out (apart from a NVidia 7600 GX 128Mb card which I reckon someone could still use if they aren't into the latest games (it's only got shader model 2 whereas most recent big bucks games require shader model 3.0)

Several years ago I tried to set up a hardware giveaway/exchange on the site I used to help run, but over the year it was up only a coule of entries were added to the database.

I still think there's a market out there for older components, but where to find that market is a problem. In the mean time I'll continue to recycle my older components to the bin except of course my dear old floppy's lol.

unless literally forced to, I'll not use anything less than a cd-r, and that only for short-term use.

I have a few 3.5" drives and a thousand or so used floppies (and a couple boxes of new ones) for emergency use- probably a dozen 5.25" drives of each type- 360k and 1.2 meg, even though all the 5.25" floppies got backed up to 3.5", then to cd-r and then dvd-r.

I also have 3 8" floppy drives and a couple boxes of new disks for 'em.

I'm looking for a way to make a thumb drive look like a floppy for the idiotic authors that insist on having a boot floppy to start recovery tools, though most of the time I can fake them out by choosing the right type of emulation on a bootable cd/dvd.
