Several months ago I gave GOTD permission to post on my Facebook page now I need to stop the daily postings.

Anyone know how this is done?

I thought there would be something like a "Do you wish to cancel" type message but there isn't.

How Secure Are You On The Internet?

Microsoft has improved the security of it considerably, thanks to automatic updates and additional free security tools.

Lets assume you have got your browser updated to the latest version, and that you generally update the application immediately when a new version comes out. You are secure now, right? Nope, you are not. Why? Because it is not only about the browser software. Browsers make automatic use of other applications, commonly called plugins. Popular plugins like Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight or Java are attack vectors as well, and successful ones too.

I seem to remember some dark predictions in the late 70's and early 80's about video rental stores killing the motion picture industry. At that time, the average cost of a movie (VHS or BETA) was $80, so it was a bit difficult to build up a decent sized collection. A rental from a video store was one or two dollars, but it also increased the risk of people pirating the movies for their own collection. Now there is a whole market devoted to "direct to DVD" movies promoted almost exclusively at the rental stores. The price of movies to own has also dropped dramatically. Video stores have reached an agreement with the movie companies about revenue sharing and everyone is on good terms again.

What we need to do is develop a system that utilizes our current technology to make (movies, music, etc...) more readily available and cheap enough to entice people away from pirating. I realize that we will never escape piracy 100%, but we can make a legal route that is affordable enough for the general public to say no to piracy. There are already several distribution platforms available to choose from. (Gnutella, Torrents, ED2K) All of them offer the potential for a digital age "rental store." Who knows, this might even bring the "Fair Use" laws back into effect and allow someone to put their legally purchased DVD movies onto a laptop so they can watch them on a business trip or extended stay away from home. You may say I'm a dreamer...

Meh. The developers will get that sorted out. After all, they do have 28 more years. By then everyone will have at least a 64-bit computer, so they can use 64-bit integers without problem. (Will it help if they changed the epoch with a new release of some major internet infrastructure system?)

Terri, that's where they are installed, not downloaded. You don't really get a "download" install program from them, just a stub (which I let it handle itself) and the installed program. You are supposed to be able to re-download in case of a problem.

At least they give you a choice. I had real problems with REAL and they said when you upgraded their manager, you would get a choice - I didn't. They said I was stuck now since even an uninstall/re-install wouldn't fix it. That told me where to look and I did re-direct it ---- in the Registry. I did a regedit and CAREFULLY changed the one record!

I found out today that with BFG you can specify where you want your games to download to if you change the options settings in your Game Manager. It amazes me that they don't make this information public until you've had numerous problems and finally get to the correct Customer Support person who tells you about it.

Windows 7 was not modelled on the Mac OS, says Microsoft

Microsoft denies Windows 7 is modelled on the Mac OS

Redmond disowns comments made by one of its managers

"What we’ve tried to do with Windows 7 – whether it’s traditional format or in a touch format – is to create a Mac look and feel in terms of graphics," he was reported as saying.
Looks like a Mac OS to me if you got window 7 do you think it look like a Mac ?

Yeah, that could be a variation of what I was talking about. The BFG downloader is, obviously, taking control of the situation and may be installing the actual game remotely from the site. Or it may be happening on your machine and BFG just doesn't want to give you control over the install, in other words the ability to install without going through the downloader. I've never tried, so I couldn't say.

I paid more attention today when I downloaded a BFG game. The Run/Save option only appears on the first screen which is actually for the BFG downloader. The second screen which is for the game itself does not give me a Save option, only a Run option, so there is nothing I can do about it. I've never had a problem figuring out where BFG is installing, it's just some of the other sites.
