I guess until the super brains arrive, the resident halfwit - myself - will have to try. :-) From the Windows 7 website:

      1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
*

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
*

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
*

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Looks like your right on the border. Unfortunately, the rub is: MS is being vague on what kind of video card specs you need. However, DirectX 9 has already been superseded and nvidia, for example, has released Windows 7 drivers for it's GE 6000 series cards which are at least 2 years old, so it's probably not an issue.

The best way to see if you're compatible is to run Microsoft's Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser software:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15

Good luck!

Sorry, I was writing this when Maud was giving her better and more succinct advice. So make that 2 votes for the Upgrade Adviser.

todd.ide - I can't help you with your first request, but as to the 2nd, Microsoft makes available here their Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser. It's a utility which will scan your system and advise you whether your hardware will support Windows 7 and also whether any of your software is incompatible or if you will need new drivers for your peripherals, etc. (you need to have them connected and turned on when the utility runs.) MS is calling the Upgrade Adviser a beta, but its use is recommended by Woody Leonhard, who's just published Windows 7 All-in-One for Dummies, and who's a long-time writer on Windows.

I don't know anything about netbooks myself, but Woody advocates running Windows 7 Home Premium on netbooks, and says that he's "used an ASUS 1000H with Win7 Ultimate all through the beta and RC versions, without a hiccup," if that's in any way comparable.

Dear all:

I have two questions for the wise and noble GOTDers who know so much more than me. The first is does anyone know how to make or get a bamboo fun tablet to work on a WinXP netbook. I am a grad student and use it the bamboo tablet to take notes in OneNote, and use pdf annotator to read and highlight pdfs, also use it to teach with. Have these an laptop but got netbook (so much lighter for lugging around).

Tried loading driver and spent a lot of time looking online but little help (it does work as a mouse now but need handwriting recognition to do stuff mentioned above).

Also does anyone now if the netbook I bought can handle an upgrade to 7? It is a Asus Eee PC NetBook n280-1.66GHz/1GB RAM/160GB/XP WiFi (bought chip to take ram to 3 gb)

Is upgrading this a good idea?

Thanks in advance!
