That's a good idea 2-sheds. We've tried to get the community involved but it always seems to peter out after a short time. Me and Wizzard tried to get interest going in the giveaway group and some members did join in - in fact we had some really good games of HL2 Deathnatch and a few games of UT2007. I'd restart the servers if I knew there was enough interest out there. I spent too many Sturday and Sunday evenings waiting for friends to come on line so am wary about re-starting. However I think Wizzard suggested that we set specific times rather than have servers open all night. the hardest part is finfing a time that's suitable for a wide section of the community with respect to time zones. I never wanted it to become zone orientated as half the fun of such a social network is chatting and playing games with people from all over the world.

If enough community members say they are interested I'd be happy to resume setting up servers at least a few times each month. :)

How come you don't use the GOTD Steam user group? The Steam client is free. You can get free games though it as an added plus. It has an instant messaging system to chat with everyone on your friends list or in any group you may already belong to (GOTD). Just a suggestion because I know you brought this up before and I started thinking that you already had the tools in place to do what you wanted. It only requires that a person install Steam (which I see as someone's only complaint). That's not much of a complaint though if it allows you to social network in real time.

Just throwing an idea out there for ya.

I'm available on Steam, Skype, AIM, and Facebook, though I don't visit my facebook often (only got one to stay in contact with a giveaway friend and an old work colleague) I prefer to use Steam first (partly becasue I have Steam running for most of the day and night) and Skype second. I also have a microsoft messenger, but haven't used that for about 6 years. I've never used Twitter yet, but am willing to try if enough members can convince me it's cool. :)

Alrighty friends I'd figured we'd try something here. Many of us love talking to each other but since there is no live chat here it isn't as fun as it could be. So i think we should share any other sites we can be together on with each other. However with the many spammers that visit these forums, posting links publicly wouldn't be a good idea. So how about we just say something like:

"I'm available on Myspace, Twitter, and Facebook. PM me for links."

Now I realize some of you may not go for this and many won't be helped by this but I think it's a neat idea to bring some of us together more so what do ya say?

I think it got me earlier today. I was taking a nap and woke up to see my computer caught in endless set of loops. It looked as if it was trying to access a program, but

was being denied or it was closing a program and it was being denied. It was strange.
It kept popping up some sort of failed to execute or access,

I was just waking up so was still foggy. I quickly hit control-alt-delete, but that didn't work so yank the power and rebooted.

No virus after several scans- I guess I was invaded. bastar@#@#

The strange thing is lots of shortcuts are missing, at least half, so half my programs arent showing although they there and working, except system mechanic.
It took out system mechanic for what ever reason.

I just thought of why I might be able to reset with iolos, I couldnt do it with windows.

Thanks for the post hotdoge

This is by far the the most useful one yet, guess cause it it affect me real time.lol
Thanks any though txnnok
-------------------------------------

Terri218,

With all the technology getting a boost the hackers get a boost too. The programmers machines on the dark side on running faster and excuting code quicker.

They infiltrate all of computers and just sit till needed and create a bot net. Which is millions of computers working at the same time. Which is way faster than than any super computer, not to mention that they can flood any server with request and shut it down.

Those guys guys are getting faster and smarter and some work as teams.
+ imagine group after group of these popping week after. Or if just 10 guys took or 30 computers a week.

Hotdoge could probably find the real stats and I bet they are way way higher, even with good guys fixing computers and people fixing their own.

I have spent many years fixing PCs that have been "gunked up" with spyware and an oversupply of tools, utilities and programs to monitor, fix, clean, scan, check, and update their pc.

Some people think if one tool is good, then five tools is five times as good. However often it comes to the point when antispyware, antivirus, firewalls, keylogger detectors, registry cleaners, defraggers, uninstallers, start menu cleaners etc etc etc - start to interfere with each other.

Most of these tools are developed and tested on a more-or-less clean system. After installing a dozen other tools - your system no longer appears like a "standard windows system" and many of these programs were never tested or intended to be run in such an environment.

In my experience it is much better to keep utilities installed on your system to a simple minimum. Find what works, and then stick to it. While GOTD might tempt people to install each new program and utility - it is much better to do as Lee has, and image, install, test, then restore the image - or just avoid installing programs you do not understand or need.

Not all programs play well with other programs - and security related software (often with low level hooks into your system) is the type that is most likely to cause incompatibilities.

I installed it like I do all giveaways and after using it for a hour or so restored an image, I would avoid this. Ohh I did ha.

I would expect a good spyware app and antivirus solution would find the naughty keyloggers.

Thanks for letting everyone know Matt. If you installed it twice and the same thing happened, thats good enough for me.

Personally I don't need the offering today so I didn't install it. LOL can't wait to see who all wants to prevent "Keylogging" on there PC.

OOOOOhhh something just came to mind. Could there be a Keylogger already installed on your pc that you needed to disable before installing the anti keylogger and that is what is causing the fatal error? ROTFLMAO

Installed and rebooted as requested. Comp wouldn't start and booted up into a blue screen saying FATAL SYSTEM ERROR. Restarted in safe mode and uninstalled Elite Anti Keylogger. Rebooted and system started ok - To check this was the problem, I installed Elite Anti Keylogger again and rebooted as requested - Same problem, blue screen with FATAL SYSTEM ERROR. Had to reboot into safe mode and uninstall again. Restarted computer and things were back to normal. Any ideas why this occurred? I am Running Windows XP.
Regards,
Matt

Turns out Eraser permanently changed a swapfile wipe registry setting without warning from 0 to 1:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\ClearPageFileAtShutdownREG_DWORD.

Pretty sneaky, especially since it also didn't provide method to correct.

For those interested, see http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/05/wipe_swap_file/
