hello, penneddragon...

i received the same error message after install on one of my computers...
it was caused by my installation...

did you have an older version of Starburn & install over it instead of uninstall-reinstall?...

we were supposed to uninstall any older version, then install the new version...
naturally, i installed over the old version instead... :/

the computer with the proper uninstall-reinstall is fine...

the install over without uninstall has bits of both programs...
EX: it shows Starburn, Starburn (Limited), and Starburn (Total)...
one gives the error message (Starburn) & has the old icons (look at the difference under Starport)...
you'll also notice both the old & new version numbers, depending on which one you start...

irritating, yes...but also my fault...and the program still works...

I used Starburn for the first time tonight. It gave me an error message to the effect this license type is no longer supported. Contact Starburn. It tried to call home to update, but I blocked it. Then I turned off automatic updates. It works in spite of the message, but I would like to turn the message off. Has anyone else gotten this error?

Maybe it is just me and these old eyes, but from what I can see in your results log, the DVD that you are trying to decrypt does not need to be because it is has no CSS protection. Maybe that is why you get the "grabbing error" result? Decrypt is for CSS Protected DVDs only I would think?

If you need to work out what sort of DVD drive is in your DELL laptop

Download InfoTool.zip from http://www.nero.com/ena/downloads-infotools.html

When you open and run the program - in the top right hand corner of the screen the name/type of your drive in the laptop will be displayed. Make a note of this name.

Then if you go to the starburn webpage - there is a link to a PDF document:
http://rocketdivision.com/info/StarBurn_SupportedHardware.pdf

which lists all of the CD and DVD drives that StarBurn works with. (It won't work with all drives - because most drives behave differently and have to be treated each as a special case).

If the drive detects ok, and it is also on the supported list - it's something else (back to the drawing board).

hi, b0ngdiggy...

some of my dvd's will only play in the DVD-RW drive ( mine is a Lite-On ), & not in the DVD-ROM drive ( Samsung )...

some of the boxes actually say they will only play in DVD-RW drives, some don't...

when i tried the DVD Decrypter in StarBurn, i got an error with the dvd in the ROM drive, but the RW drive worked fine with the dvd i tried...

it wouldn't play in the ROM drive, either...

if you have two drives, did you try them both?...

sorry for the dumb question...i'm so used to using the ROM drive for everything that when the dvd's started working that way, i thought my ROM drive had died...

First of all, thank you for the StarBurn(rerun). I really needed this program after the mishap I had a few weeks ago with this same program.

I just have a quick question.
When I used DVD Decrypt on Starburn that was released today, the grabbing log reported "Grabbing error!".

So what happened? I'm not sure if its the program or my computer.
Also, does anyone else have this problem?

StarBurn has Windows 2000 SP4 (and up) as a requirement to run. Unfortunately, Windows Me is not capable of running the program (as you have discovered).

As Windows Me is very old - and definitely from the previous generation of Windows versions - there will sometimes be no chance of getting the software working if they list Windows 2000, XP or Vista as being minimum requirements.

The emulator is usually software that emulates (acts like) hardware.

Windows treats the emulator (software) as a physical DVD disk drive. When you mount (or load) a suitable file (such as an ISO file) into the emulator - Windows thinks you have inserted an actual DVD or CD Disc into your (virtual) DVD drive.

The main benefit is convenience and speed (HDDs run a lot faster than DVDs).

google Daemon Tools or alcohol 52%- the first IMHO is best, but..

sort of like a ram disk, if you remember those, only instead of read-write memory it uses the 'image' (iso or any of several other formats from nero, ultraiso, poweriso, etc.) of a CD or DVD to make your system think it has another optical drive with that disc in it.

It´s a software that emulates a DVD drive. If you make an Image of an CD/DVD you can mount it with this emulator and use it like the original CD.
Nice option for games on a Laptop or if you just want to save your CDs from scratches. But most games don´t play with an emulator installed / active.
