Thanks for the update. If you're not sure whether a game has already been posted check the free games synopsis or use the search engine. (I've not updated the synopsis since week 100. a job I really need to do. I'm waiting for the outcome of the legislation relating to privacy as i may have to re upload hundreds of images so may as well do both jobs together. :)

FreedroidRPG is an open source role playing game

The game tells the story of a world destroyed by a conflict between robots and their human masters. Play as Tux in a quest to save the world from the murderous rebel bots who know no mercy. You get to choose which path you wish to follow, and freedom of choice is everywhere in the game.

FreedroidRPG features a real time combat system with melee and ranged weapons, fairly similar to the proprietary game Diablo. There is an innovative system of programs that can be run in order to take control of enemy robots, alter their behavior, or improve one's characteristics. You can use over 50 different kinds of items and fight countless enemies on your way to your destiny. An advanced dialog system provides story background and immersive role playing situations.

The game is complete, fully playable, and can provide about 10 hours of fun. It is still being actively developed, and help is welcome in many areas. People having - or trying to acquire - programming, map editing, or writing skills will find FreedroidRPG to be an exciting, fast-moving project in which they can fully express their creativity.

http://www.freedroid.org/

The FreedroidRPG development team is happy to present FreedroidRPG 0.15. FreedroidRPG 0.15rc1 comes almost exactly one year after 0.14.1, and brings a lot of improvements: more than 1700 changes were made! This release was done by the usual suspects but also our four Google Summer of Code 2011 students, as well as many people who made their first contribution to FreedroidRPG.

Below is a condensed list of the changes that were made for 0.15.
Engine

A new way of commanding your army of take-over droids is available: Multi-Bot Broadcast. Now you can issue one command to all of your droids that are on the same map level, making management of a large number of bots much simpler.
Loading a saved game saw a dramatic performance increase.
Armor rules were improved: armor gives you damage reduction. Hit/miss is handled separately.
The Network Mapper in-game program has been added: It displays all the enemies on the current level on the automap for a short time. Remember, you need to have the automap enabled and turned on (default key TAB) to use the skill!
Positional audio was implemented: now you can tell where and how far away that pesky droid is!
The level editor interface was improved, making the process of level creation much simpler and more intuitive: map labels, enemies and their relevant information can be placed, moved around and edited inside the editor and using the mouse, rather through a text file.
The user interface now properly handles various screen resolutions and aspect ratios (this is still a work-in-progress however).
Damage is now calculated and applied to NPCs only when the weapon actually lands, greatly improving the feeling of the slower weapons such as the sledgehammer.

Hehe well I discovered the new installer when I was writing the Skyrim post, then found the original links had gone, so I figured it was a good time to chip in! :)

Doing Daggerfall next.

Edit: Daggerfall post has been updated!

Haha, Bently, I was actually going to update this post togeter with Daggerfall seeing as Skyrim has just been released. Despite the age of both games they are still excellent games to play. You don't get the same interactivity, but the story, the monsters, the magic and the travelling are there. Thanks for updating the post for me.

Just updating the links for The Elder Scrolls: Arena.

Official Download - Bethesda Software
Elder Scrolls: Arena website - Direct download

Additionally, a very kind person has simplified everything into a single installer! Ancestral Ghost at theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net has combined the download from Bethesda, above, with DOSBox 0.74, and some extras from the community. This installer will let you include or exclude the extras, as you please.

From the website:

ArenaSetup was created to install an easy, ready-to-play Arena on modern Windows Systems.

The game is version 1.07 (CD Version) and works with a pre-configured DosBox.

Like any Windows Setup, you can install Arena anywhere on your computer. The setup can add a shortcut on your desktop, a folder in your start menu and a quick launch icon. Off course, you can uninstall Arena as easily as you can install it.

Some of the options are a French translation (Project French Arena), French (AZERTY) keyboard, windowed mode, and graphics smoothing to make it a little easier on the eyes.

Run the game in a Window

Open the DosBox.conf file with a text editor and change fullscreen=true for fullscreen=false.

When you are playing, you can change screen mode with ALT + ENTER.
Smooth graphics

You can play with Arena default graphics, but you can also use a filter for have a smoother Arena. Open the DosBox.conf file with a text editor and change the following :

    * Search the line output=Surface and replace surface with ddraw, opengl or openglnb.
* Search the line fullresolution=original and replace original with your screen resolution (1024x768 by example).
* Search the line scaler=normal2x and replace normal2x with normal3x, advmame2x, advmame3x, hq2x, hq3x, 2xsai, super2xsai, supereagle, advinterp2x, advinterp3x, tv2x, tv3x, rgb2x, rgb3x, scan2x or scan3x (You can see examples here).
* Save and exit "dosbox.conf".

Just click 'Download: ArenaSetup.exe (30Mo)'

Iffermoon (246Mb)

Iffermoon is a very brilliant 2D side-scrolling RPG that gives a very different and unique experience than most any other fantasy RPG. It takes place in a fantastic and often very surreal world, illustrated with the most absolutely gorgeous and exquisite graphics. If you’ve a slower PC load times between menu/scenes can be ‘excessive’ because of the large high resolution inter-active screens - but with a faster PC is very well worth any delay caused by load times.

“The day the Iffermoon crashed, the world changed forever. Your name is ‘Silence’, a young creature adopted into the Kingdom of Dinost, an ancient land filled with life and mystery. The inhabitants there have been at war with a creature called Cosmose since the day he emerged from a mechanical menace called the Iffermoon. The Iffermoon's origins are shrouded in controversy, but it's said that it once brought life to the planet. After the crash however, that all changed. Now all of Dinost is in danger of not just being destroyed, but being reprogrammed.”

‘Silence’ through temporary deafness as a very young being, escaped the call of evil that has entrapped so many in this world and is the one hope, to defeat Cosmose and re-unite all its denizens into co-habiting peacefully once more, and restore beauty and harmony in this once very peaceful and lovely world.

As well as the beautiful graphics there’s a very detailed and extended dialogue that really sets the scenes - and engrosses the player throughout the game. Although the game’s main player ‘Silence’ is a child creature, the dialogue is so compellingly told, and so delightfully written that it is easy to forget this, and start to think ‘Silence’ is way way older in years and experience.

There’s a vast world to explore and the 3D backgrounds give the feel of a vast world stretching way off into the distance. As well as exiting the present screen left or right, there are various types of transportation (such as hot air balloons, pipes, elevators, etc.) that will get you to new places. Starnest for instance is a large and complex realm to explore. The games characters are animated with a 3D look too and you get cutscenes showing close-ups of the characters expressions.

There are many inhabitants to talk to and interact with as you find your way around the very lush environs. They vary enormously - with bird people, reptilian people, robots, even ‘people’ with enormous elephant heads, and many more denizens besides! You will find some of these to be playable characters who can join your team. It can be a lengthy process getting a ‘citizen’ to join with you on your quest. You might need to explore certain areas and find ‘x’ items or kill ‘y’ monsters, or better their score in a mini-game, before they will join with you on your fighting team.

You do need to assemble the best possible fighting machine from the various denizens you meet and encounter, to make as formidable a mini army as you can; to help you win the real-time battles that will oft arise, during your quest to restore order and stability to Dinost. Characters can gain new abilities and skills during gameplay.

The games combat (which you will engage in often!) takes place with a maximum of four characters, with back-up characters taking their place if any characters die during a battle. ‘Iffer’ is gained which you can give to any character in your team regardless of whether they took part in the battle. ‘Iffer’ tallies of course with experience points in other RPGs. There are also skills that affect the whole team (in Party points).

The combat system uses a mix of menus and real-time fighting which takes place slowly enough for you to sort your strategy and character options. This works very well and is a good substitute for turn-based encounters. As the battle progresses, your four characters move around and attack automatically when their action bar fills. You can click on any of your combatants at any time and change their stance between battle, defensive or medium (mix of battle/defense). The menu that appears clicking on a character can also be used to select between special skills the character may have. When a characters icon glows red, provided their fight points are at their maximum a special and very strong attack can be made. You can sometimes transport enemies to different realms where they are more susceptible to special attacks or use of certain special skills against them.

There are three large and complete mini-games that you get to via arcade machines to help you on your quest, each giving different rewards. You collect tokens to enable access to the mini-games. These mini-games are varied and suitably challenging on occasion and make a good and lively interesting diversion from the main play and quest of the game.

The game’s controls are very straightforward and intuitive. Use ‘arrow’ keys to move, ‘Shift’ key to jump, ‘Z’ key to perform actions/ in the mini-games, ‘Tab’ key to open menus, and the mouse to navigate menus. There’s just the one save-slot, and this is overwritten on pressing the ‘Esc’ key to exit the game; each time ‘Silence’ leaves one area to enter a new one; or when you lose a battle or get killed and it’s game over.

The one save-slot is a slight shame as the game’s quality is such that it would be great to be able to re-visit some areas of ‘great wonderment’ again by means of simple extra game saves, but alas you’ll have to replay through to see and re-explore these areas again unless you revisit them by choice while playing! There’s also a hard mode to unlock, giving extra replay value.

It's a sizable download as it is, even without voice acting. The story is told extremely well via dialogue boxes.

The game plays in XP, Vista and Win 7 and needs a 1.5GHz+ CPU though 2GHz+ CPU highly recommended.

There’s a fabulous range of music and music types to accompany and enhance the game. The graphics are marvellously imaginative and will often catch and hold your attention. Each re-visit will have you noticing details you missed first time around. There aren’t many games that have me saying ‘Like Wow!’ as this game does, at some of the scenes!

Hi Roblou

I presume first you are mentioning the main run time link above, and not the RTPe files.

Which version of the RTP files did you download? XP or VX?

Have you unzipped (extracted) the file?

When you installed (ie double clicked) on the RTP exe file, did you leave the destination directory as set by default? - (it shouldn't be installed to the game directory!)

Are you getting an error message when you try running the game (using the RPG_RT.exe from the extracted/unzipped game directory)? Please say what OS eg XP, Vista or Win 7 you are using.

let me know -I'll try my best to help.

Alter A.I.L.A Genesis (72.6Mb)

Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis also takes place in a post-apocalyptic world; but we aren't given to know if it’s placed before or after Alter A.I.L.A. It is however very different in that it is a side-scrolling rpg that plays very much more like an arcade platform game, with of course rpg fight/battle scenes. It has a new battle system, new graphics, new mechanics, and a reinvented story and cast.

I was going to post it alongside Alter A.I.L.A, but given the vastly different nature of the gameplay, I think it thoroughly deserves a post of its own! When an enemy approaches, an exclamation mark appears on the screen and you can go into a fight/battle or sometimes carry on without fighting. Occasionally you are not given a choice, and you have to fight! You play as Leon, assisted by 9 other characters to choose between.

The advice is to change ‘active mode’ to ‘passive mode’ inmenu - at least at first, to prevent hostiles taking action simultaneously to your own actions. Enemies and bosses gain points as you do, and they are unable to use their harder hitting abilities early in a fight. If you can down them quickly, you have more chance of beating them! It’s also probably as well not to fight every enemy just for the sake of until you have obtained your ‘exceed’ ability, or you might get gravely weakened in taking on too many fights early on!

“Every stage just looks and feels different, with the game's frequent dungeons having just the right amount of depth to satiate your curiosity without slowing down the story or leaving you badly in need of fresh air. Coupled with a proportionate abundance of puzzles and treasures, and you'll be happy to be going either forward or backward between stages.

The game's storyline is superb; despite it having little correlation with any of the previous game's three plots--at least in terms of its position on the time-line--the story behind Genesis is a worthy spin-off which pits revamped iterations of the original game's cast on a linear adventure. Characters have dropped their code names in favor of pre-assigned ones, their faces and outfits have been retooled (or upgraded, - rather), and their personalities have changed substantially--some even drastically. All of these changes are arguably for the better, as the characters are easier to relate to, their motives are more outspoken, and their new roles in the story provide them with fresh new reasons to be reintroduced and re-explored. There's also no shortage of intrigue, action, or drama throughout the three provided ‘phases’ of the game, which is executed via original hand-drawn, still cutscenes and superior dialogue.

A typical battle in Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis feels something like a cross between an action RPG and a strategy game, where every move can be planned out in advance, every condition taken into account, and yet your expected rate of execution is still surprisingly high. You can pummel through foes with droll, head-on tactics if you wish, but having a strategy from the get-go is simply the better way to approach tough situations. Items and weapons must be stocked up and equipped where necessary, especially for upcoming boss fights, and you must always keep an eye on field effects and Exceed abilities, which can turn a battle in either team's favor instantly. Also, finding rare equipment and items on the field during your explorations can sometimes give you a noticeable edge over the opposition, whereas refusing to stock up on the right items, either out of haste or inability, can land you a one-way ticket to la-la land in what would normally pass as a fair fight.” It really is fun experimenting with weapon and item combinations, and getting the battle strategy right.

Field effects in battle are things like all units having their HP healed by a little each turn or all units having reduced defence, little changes that can influence how battles pan out. You can induce these with items, and bosses can induce them repeatedly and, when it comes to boss fights, they’re fairly clever because they add another level of strategy. But you probably won’t need to bother with Field Effects except for boss fights. Modes, Field Effects, and Boost ailments all stack. If you're creative, you may be able to create a situation where you can pretty much negate everything the boss throws at you, while tossing out ‘Exceed’ abilities every turn. There’s standard rpg fare of elements involved as well in battle scenes. Appropriate music plays throughout the game, and that during battle scenes suits the battles very well indeed.

I've added some extra screenshots, but do view the video, to get a proper impression of the arcade rpg play. That said, it has huge maps to explore, and deep battle strategy - the video might make it look simplistic, which it is anything but! It's very much a full-blown rpg with most excellent rpg elements!

You might find exploration a bit disorientating at first with all the side-scrolling platforms, ladders and chasms to jump and how screens link or sometimes appear not to link, but with this being one of the very few side-scrolling rpgs, it’s a game to really savour!

On this occasion, I’ll leave you to find out about the storyline and characters through playing the game! Suffice that the storyline will probably keep you coming back for more, than anything else in this game!

It’s an excellent game, whether you like rpgs or no, and very worthy of your attention!

Alter A.I.L.A (29.9Mb)

Alter A.I.L.A. is a sci-fi 2d rpg that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, on a remote plateau; one of the last remaining land masses left above sea level. You play the role of a young prisoner Blue, who amongst others, have had their memories erased, and must now fight for their lives every day, just to entertain others more fortunate than yourself, under Kugar’s control, until suddenly, you are given the chance to escape.

Is this a test? Do you stay, run or leave and join forces with the rebels?

Shades of Darth?

It’s a classic rpg, in this case, well up in the top five RPG Game Maker favourites. With the music and sound effects it carries feeling of being in the cheerless, depressing and hostile environment very well. It’s a ‘wild’ and unwelcoming world and you - might - just survive - to the next encounter (or not!). The austere and gloomy, very drab surroundings rub off on you after a while and you are not surprised by some vast uninhabited, in fact probably uninhabitable wastelands. Nor so much that you have to fight and evade or attack monsters just to stay alive, if you can call it that!

There’s a tremendous variety of unique area’s to explore including, as examples, the mysterious lab, Kugar's Tower, the Slums, the Heaven program within Avalon and the Underwater Facility. Naturally, given the desolate setting, it’s a world with a poor bleak outlook (unless you can change things for the better!) and many areas have a slummish atmosphere and appearence. It says it all that you have to fight to the death, just for others’ entertainment! Unlike many sci-fi rpgs, the monsters are relevant to the bleak and dreary world, rather than being standard rpg fare in a sci-fi setting. This makes the fights and battles more realistic and more relevant to the ‘latter-day’ broken and despoiled ‘future’ environment.

Fights and battles have you “placing your party against an opposing number of humans, robots, mutants, and/or combinations who all possess elemental weaknesses waiting to be exploited. You can zone in on these weaknesses using explosive rounds found and bought throughout the game, such as; grenades, incendiaries, and shock grenades. In addition, each character in your party possesses a unique ability and weapon setup, which allows for some creativity in your offensive approach. Abilities range from ‘Analyze’, which lets you read your foe's weaknesses, to ‘Sharpshoot’, which allows a shotgun-toting character to blast off all rounds on one foe. There are 6 different types of guns, of which you can equip two for each character.” You will determine which of 8 alternative characters will join your party. The characters are well-developed in the storyline.

Gameplay-wise, Alter A.I.L.A has some puzzles, button smashing fights and battles (including boss fights) and some long walks. One very interesting puzzle you will encounter along the way is notably the door maze in Avalon, which you might be very hard-pressed to solve without viewing the solution at one stage or another. As well as the smattering of excellent puzzles, there are also side quests you can go on, as you wish.

The story can go in 3 separate directions, depending on your choice of path during the prologue. You play as one main character Blue, as he tests out the 3 different scenarios. But none of these are the true path; (the true path is discovered in the** scenario when you access the ******** prior to going to the *******), and ultimately all of these initial scenarios become nothing more than "what if" scenarios, that never actually happen. ’Blue’ is just weighing up each option before making up his mind on what to actually do.

I recommend you replay it by playing out all of the initial 3 scenarios as you do then get the full story of the game and really come to appreciate the direction of the 4th (hidden) story.

Rebel: On this route, you'll join up with a rebel faction created to stop the dictatorship of Kugar, the overlord. Your motives are ultimately summed up in overthrowing Kugar and establishing peace and human rights for all.
Imperial: On this route, you'll support Kugar's regime, and work towards crushing the rebellion. All resistance must be terminated. You get an insight into the machineriums of Kugar’s empire.
Independent: On this route, you won't join up with either side. Whoever rules does not matter to you. Your one goal is to be free.

The independent scenario and the hidden true way are the two most interesting of the scenarios.
The true path when you find it is awesome and turns out to be better than all of the other three combined! Like reading the story in a good book you can speak to everybody to learn about the world around you and try and find hidden clues, to try (!) and figure out the final outcome. The excellent storyline here keeps you guessing, right the way through and right up to the final completion of the game!

There’s 20+ hours of pure enjoyment here.

It’s a superb rpg of this particular genre and very highly recommended, if you haven’t met it before!

Phantasia Remake (70 Mb)

Phantasia rpg is an rpg remake, and not to be confused with the entirely different games Phantasia 1 & 2 by BigFish games. The story is that the world's elements are slowly losing their power. And when the Elements completely lose their powers to protect the planet Gaia, that world will be destroyed, and the evil Demon Lord: Asmodeus shall be awakened to pass judgment upon the land. It’s up to a young hero named Max to rekindle the elements and prevent Asmodeus' awakening.

Phantasia Remake

The five best 2D RPG Game Maker rpg games are noted in the rpg games community to be:- the Laxius Power trilogy; The Way Eps 1 - 6; A Blurred Line; Phantasia rpg Remake; and Alter A.I.L.A. I wouldn’t try to split hairs and rank them; they all have notable features unique to each one. I haven’t included Dragon Destiny rpg in the list, simply because of its having puzzle logic games alongside the rpg element and the low initial money - emphasis on trading initially, together with the few places to obtain experience points. In all other respects, Dragon Destiny rpg equals and ranks with the best! Some less traditionalist rpg players might even find Dragon Destiny rpg the most fun to play! But on with the Phantasia remake . . .

The Phantasia remake has new characters, a side-view battle system and a heavily remade storyline. - And dozens of side quests. The bugs in the Beta version reviews have been fixed in the latest download version. Features unique to the game include; 1. For when you reach a critical condition in a battle a cut scene then new skills temporarily granted as a last resort for you to try to defeat the enemy/boss, though you still die if you then fail even with the added new skills to defeat the enemy/boss; 2. The addition of color Elemental Fields, which randomly appear in battle changing the form of certain skills. For example the main character begins with a standard sword technique that will suddenly change to fire element if a fire field should appear. But some of these changes may lessen instead of enhance your battle ability! 3. A balancing system for enemies partly based on your experience points. If you have higher experience points, the enemies can sometimes inflict more damage should you let them! Generally any time there are enemies that use physical attacks, they will be fairly easy to deal with. Any time an enemy is capable of using skills, particularly spells, you're going to die horribly/quickly unless you've spent a lot of time grinding! - These all amount to a particularly good battle system.

You're going to need to find the four elemental orbs (Earth, Air(as Wind), Fire, Water), to restore the world’s elements’ powers. In the first two hours of gameplay, you’ll be rescuing Princess Sara from ‘Garland’, beating down some pirates to acquire a ship, and eventually trekking off to a cave in order to reclaim the Earth Orb to start saving your dying village. Very much ‘a la’ Final Fantasy 1 albeit with name changes and some new events thrown in, as the game’s author very freely admits! The game is (deliberately) rarely clear about where you have to go next, and is usually satisfied with telling you to go directly North or West etc even if that's going to lead you straight to an ocean or mountain range that you have to find a way across or around.

The ‘hero’ Max leaves the village for ‘vague’ reasons (fame and fortune!), and the ‘travelling companions’ you’ll meet and venture with have little in common apart from your and their desire to 'restore the world'. When Max runs into his best friend Annette, he decides to help her out in saving the village that is turning into an uninhabitable state. The ‘hero’ is also rather ‘anti-feminist’ in that he sometimes (very occasionally!) spends his time 'listing' the measurements of every female he encounters and saying how hot he thinks everyone female is?! Whether you’ll find this amusing, funny, or insulting depends on your own view on such matters! He also gives people he is acquainted with nicknames. Whether he is a likeable or not-so likeable rogue, the fate of his world is largely in his/your hands.

Annette studied in the Magic Academy for a couple of years outside Lain Village, she only managed to learn the basic elements, but even then it was a miracle that she even managed to learn 4 spells at once, but it shows that she will be able to learn even more powerful magic in the near future. She is on a mission to return her village to its former self, but she is going to require the right warriors needed for reviving their village Lain, even it if means getting Max to help her, but little does she know that Lain isn't the only place that is in major peril.

Not much is known about Renault. From what he says, he is a fisherman who hangs around the Port Town of Arvis. But it appears that there is something more to him than from what he says... and he always seems to accidentally leak out stuff he shouldn't be saying, perhaps there is something Renault is keeping from the group that he doesn't want them to find out about...

Celia is an archer in the forest town of Ratians. She is usually well versed in nature, (which is why she specializes in Earth elemental attacks...) and her abilities with the Bow are very unique. She is a very distant person and doesn't open up to people very often except for her Uncle; Who lives far from her village and is very knowledgeable about what's happening to the world. She won't leave her village because she thinks she needs to stay and do whatever she can and help the people. But what is it that will motivate her to leave the village?

You'll have to find out about other characters as they appear in the game!

There is of course a huge map to explore the large world area, with many a side quest to divert on if you wish, before finding all four elemental orbs, naturally! As usual with these games there’s a fair smattering of good humor around, good music/sound and very many enemies and bosses to deal with on your travels.

Most of the dungeons are full of small empty (?) rooms, and you'll usually only spend a short time in one room before moving on to the next. One puzzle you might particularly enjoy is a teleport maze.

You are partly more constrained in your initial choices and the game/characters guides you through the first part of the game. There is also a fair amount of emphasis on the storytelling. Later on though, you are freer to explore and take up side-quests if you wish.

The optional dungeon "Abyss" now has more bosses to defeat before you reach the final floor, think you can take them on?

There isn't a manual with the game, nor online, but there some ingame tutorials, and you can always check the YouTube partial walkthroughs if/when you get stuck. 'Arrow' keys to move, 'Spacebar' to advance dialogue, talk to people when next to them, examine items or perform actions such as open doors, 'Esc' or 'X' key for inventory and 'Alt + Enter' keys to switch full-screen/ windowed mode. A lot of the file download size is mp3 music!

This is sincerely a great game, and not one to be missed if you like a good Rpg!

Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo1Pp40j3_8 - Plenty more on YouTube!

Download HERE

Older RTPe Run Time Files (If above RTP files don’t work for you) HERE - but shouldn’t be needed as game made with 2003 version.

Incidentally, the game needs at least a 450MHz cpu, so won't run on eg a Pentium II Celeron machine.

If you have odd/funny characters instead of English words in the dialogue boxes, go to the Windows/Fonts folder in your main Windows directory and delete the RM 2000 8 font. There should be a RMG2000 8 font remaining. Do not delete this one by mistake.

Re-run the game and the dialogues will now be in English!

Game keys to use - 'arrow' keys to move, 'spacebar' to advance dialogues, examine items; or to talk (when standing next to) people. 'X' key or 'Esc' key to view inventory.

Hi Nycllama

Thanks, the older RTPe files did the trick! :)

I've updated the link in the main post to your link. Thanks very much for this!

Usually most previous versions rpg Game Maker games work with either of the newer RTP files, this is an exception!

I had tried a later RTPe.exe but the link you have provided is to an earlier version of RTPe and I just had to say yes to all, to replace later file versions. I can always re-run the later RTPe if needed for any similar games!

****** To run it windowed, simply press 'Alt + Enter' :) - - - - Once again very big thanks! :)

I have should mentioned that the game seems to be working fine on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. Is there any way to run it in windowed mode? Thanks for the rec chazzo, it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun!

It took me a while to locate the run-time package files (rtpe.exe); they're at http://www.4shared.com/file/isdwys1L/RTPe.html

I tried the RTPs at the link posted at the bottom of chazzo's article, but they were for different versions of rm2k than Dragon Destiny was built with.

Thanks Chazzo,

I've got a lot of free games to catch up o once I've thrown off this malaise I've been under for the past several weeks. Looking forwards to trying quite a few of them out. :)

Hi Gratlox,

Did you try turning off unecessary background programs? Game Booster is a good way of doing this. Someone mentioned that firefox interfered with the game. Once it was turned off the game worked. There have been over 10 thousand downloads and only several community members have complained about the problem with a black screen, which would indicate that it's a problem specific to the computer, not the game. The problem with a black screen presented itself previously when it was given away back in 2008 as well, but again only a few community members mentioned it. It's got to be a conflict with somethig you are running, though I may be wrong. :)

Sorry, chazzo, no luck.
Maybe I'll look at it again later, it's over 6 AM now, and I didn't get any sleep yet. This is rather complicated - I have to download a runtime package - but I don't know which of the 2 on that site.
And my puter is in a bad shape, I'm a little bit afraid to to make the mess worse.

Need a break now. Hopefully someone else can help us.
