Todays game giveaway is a 50.2Mb download that installs to 122Mb There is no shortcut installed onto the desk top or in the start menu. You can create a shortcut by following the tutorial in the games discussion forums (see link below); though you do need to note where the program is installed to. The default install location is to C:\Games\Alien Terminator:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/2594

The game revolves around you moving through a 3D isometric alien environment in an armored vehicle. Your vehicle is equipped with rockets and lasers and you are able to move through the environment using the keyboard arrow keys. Firing your primary weapon, the laser, is accomplished using the left mouse button and secondary weapons that you can pick up during the game as bonuses are activated by the mouse button. Your default secondary weapon are rockets. If you're familiar with the previous RIP and Alien Shooter giveaways, you'll know exactly what the game mechanics are. The graphics are on par with both of those series.

There are several power ups to collect which include armor upgrades and secondary weapon upgrades such as grenades. You'll find golden balls of flame/energy that you must activate to progress through each level. When you pass over one of these golden balls of energy you release hordes of aliens. You will see two types of arrows yellow and blue which indicate targets you have to destroy or capture. I'll let you figure what the colors mean for yourselves though. ;)

Images:

It was difficult to get any images that had any animations within them, so there are only 9 screen shots to see, but they do give you a good idea as to what the game looks like.

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/Alien%20Terminator/?albumview=slideshow

Music:

There are two MP3 tracks found within the games data folder. If you don’t like the music you can exchange these for any of your own mp3’s, but you must rename the tracks to the ones found within the music folder (C:\games\Alien Terminator\Data\Music\) called Main and Menu.

Conclusion:

Not a bad game if you like shooters of this ilk. It's mindless fun, with little thought to strategy. Though you do have to destroy targets within each level to progress onto the next. You just run and gun, picking up the power ups that include health packs, shields and secondary weapon upgrades, though the primary laser doesn't appear to have any upgrades. I'd give this a 7 out of 10 when comparing it with others in this genre. I found the keyboard controls were a little awkward to use, but with a little perseverance, it's possible to control your vehicle easily. Personally I'd give it a 5 out of 10. I found the first few levels enjoyable, then it got a little tedious. There was little ariability to the levels I played, though I must admit after playing it for less than 30 minutes I became really bored. I much prefer the RIP and Alien Shooter games to this one because they have a more interesting selection of power ups and the levels are a lot more variable. This game is free standing so you will be able copy it to a CD, DVD or pen drive and play it on any computer.

Alternatives:

There’s several alternatives to this game, the main ones that com to mind are the RIP and Alien Shooter series of which there are three games in the RIP series and four in the Alien Shooter series – Alien Shooter, Alien Shooter: The Experiment, Alien Shooter Fight for life and Theseus:Return of the Hero (all of which are previous giveaways), as well as several other games with similar game mechanics, though some are based in space rather than on land and the perspective changes, for example in Devastation Zone Troopers you play in the Third person perspective and in Void Wars the first person. Others include, Evil Invasion, Mutant Storm, After the End, Neon Wars, Alien Defence and Crimsonland, though none of those apart from the first and third person games comes up to the standard of Alien Shooter, RIP and today's giveaway. You can also play a flash version of Alien Terminator for free, though it bears no resemblance to this game:

http://fizzlebot.com/danny/alienterminator.php

or

http://www.blitzgamer.com/play_games/shooter/95/alien-terminator.html

There’s also a CD based game called Expendable that plays very similar to Alien Terminator and can be purchased for less than $10 through sold out games:

http://www.acegamez.co.uk/reviews_pc/Expendable_PC.htm (review only)

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, you can get a couple of full version games from Gametop totally free that come under the umbrella of today’s game. Please note that games downloaded from Gametop contain no viruses (I've downloaded and checked all but the gambling ones, though your browser is opened when you close the game down. This is easily remedied by clicking on the little X button; which shuts the browser down with no comeback. Gametop are always expanding their stock of free commercial games so I've found having my browser opened to Gametops home page useful at times. There's no pop up's or in game advertising.

Crimson Road:

http://www.gametop.com/download-free-games/crimson-road/

Yes it did have some problems back in 5.1 or 5.2 (rough guess) there were a few issues - one was an incompatibility when you had xVid and DivX both installed - you had to install xVid turning off an option to decode all FourCCs.

There was also a problem with DivX's ability to preview / thumbnail files and if you tried to bring up the context menu (right click) on a file or folder - explorer would keel over.

I think these happened shortly after the release of XP Service Pack 2 - and thanks to lots of user "feedback" the DivX developers fixed the problems in their code.

Luckily - I avoided it all because I only use Xvid. :)

Lee and Bubby .. doesn't DivX have a long and colorful (well, the vocabulary lessons are colorful) history of crashing Windows Explorer? Seems to me I remember making regedits to repair my last go-round with DivX. Perhaps it was just older versions?

BuBBy,
Many thanks for the info. Does the Divx format give good results? I confess that I've found that Xvid tends to give a better quality conversion for me, but if this is an improved Divx codec, that difference may have disappeared now.

I'd prefer it if they sold cars. You have to take the car home and drive it around for 30 days before they mention, "oh by the way... about the money..." heh heh.

Thanks for the info Adiemus61. I'll take a peek at MAC.

I posted because a couple of people were looking for a better cd audio burner than those on offer at GAOTD. I knew of CD-DA as an inexpensive all-rounder, but personally use 2 other well known products to serve all my needs.

Hmmm, I have only been here for a week, but have already noticed GAOTD take a dim view on posts containing anything to do with defeating copyright - It's in their best interests to do so. So I'll leave it there.

Cheers.

I use Easy CD-DA Extractor and, while it's a great program (probably the best) for ripping CD tracks, it will not, under any circumstances, convert .wma format files!
When you try and convert that format you will get this message:

"DRM Protected (Copy-Protected) WMA files are not supported!

The owner of the music has set a restriction; you are not allowed to copy or convert this content"

I've tried over 12 different so-called "converter" programs and I've found only one that lives up to it's hype and actually converts protected .wma files to .mp3 or .wav.
Media Audio Capture, http://www.e-soft.co.uk/, DOES convert those pesky protected files by re-recording them in real time and then saving them as .mp3 or .wav format files. That is the ONLY way conversion can take place of DRM encoded audio files.

Media Audio Capture has a batch conversion version that will convert up to 999 files without having to stop and save each track individually.
I just converted an old Johnny Mathis "album" with 83 .wma tracks to .mp3. I set the program to convert to .mp3; set the output location; fired the program up and went to bed. When I got up all 83 tracks were converted.

Not too shabby for only $24.95.

Hopefully GAOTD can get it on the roster.
