THERE'S something weird going in the world of the web browsers.

Despite making the most commonly-used browser in the world, Microsoft has for the most part been the critical underdog.

Internet Explorer 6 struggled to cope with the demands of the modern web user right from the start, and IE7 and IE8 didn't do enough to differentiate themselves to convince people to upgrade.

Now the software giant seems to have bounced back.

Rest assured, Microsoft's rivals in the browser market – Google, which makes Chrome, and Mozilla, which makes Firefox – won't take it lying down.

You cannot run it under XP. Only Vista SP2+ or Win 7

To the myriads of us out there with XP, intent on keeping XP,(at least until we HAVE to do an OS reinstall!) the best alternatives are Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Lunascape 6 in about that order! Followed lastly by the desperately slow IE8.

I use Firefox 3.6.9 with No-Script add-on to prevent most drive-by malware!

Firefox 4 is very promising, once add-ons catch up on compatibility! Hardware acceleration support depends on having a recent PC/ graphics card!

Of course if I do have to reinstall, I'll move across to Win 7 !

Yes finally Internet explorer is getting the border-radius property and other selectors other browsers have had for a while. Hopefully this will make it way easier to design cross browser websites. I use Internet Explorer but Microsoft needs to learn that every major browser out there but their own runs in a similiar way and they aren't changing to explorer standards anytime soon. So hopefully IE9 will run better in the end and make it a whole lot easier to make websites that run smoothly crossbrowser. My dream is when a site is viewed the same in any browser on any platform without any browser specific coding lol.

I always make sure to stop and smell the roses, every day is a gift. I do check in often to see what’s going on, but do not post as much as before.

Who does not know this? For Firefox there are at least two add-ons which work very well:
AutoSaveText - Automatically saves and restores text you typed in forms or textareas. and

Lazarus - Never lose anything you type into a web form again! Lazarus securely auto-saves all forms as you type, so after a crash, server timeout, or whatever, you can go back to the form, right click, select "recover form", and breath a sigh of relief.

Another useful helper for Firefox: Resizeable Textarea.

Well, I don't think such a message is really important. Just reload before you write and you are up to date. As I always need some more time for my posts than a native speaker, I mostly pre-write my answer in Notepad, then copy and paste it into the reply box. If in the meanwhile someone else had posted, I'm able to take this into account -
or I just ignore it, as it is mostly not important who writes first.

Could there also be a message that said "Another user has posted" When you look at your preview?

I think I said one thing wrong. I just posted 2 to a thread in the last hour, with someone else posting in between, and I can still edit them both. Even after logging out and back in again to test it. Could be a glitch, though, because I was editing the first one while the other person was posting. Probably does work, though. Probably, the one hour limit is the only restriction, regardless if anyone else posts, but I can't say for sure.

And you are right, we do only have one hour to edit what we post.. but, if I take my time in what I'm typing (and I have a big problem with transposing things due to one hand typing faster than the other from arthritis), then I don't need to edit.

When there is a burning need to edit your comment after this time, please shout loud or just send a PM. One of the many Mods will be there with a helping keyboard and edit your typo.

Thanks, GMMan... but what I meant was, if you're not logged in and are just looking at the posts, you won't see the "edit" option under your post. Once you're logged in, you will. So I must've checked the forum to add to my post without logging in yet, and noticed that the "edit" option was gone... hence I thought it didn't last as long as has been said. But yes, I realize that you stay "logged in" for a certain period of time. Now does anyone know what that is? LOL! (seriously, it doesn't matter... takes but a sec to log in) *&:-)

Actually, midori, you can. On the top-right corner of every forum page it indicates your status. If you're not logged in, it gives you the username and password boxes. If you are logged in, it'll tell you "Welcome, usernamehere!"

Just to clear it up,you have one hour to edit your post, and the person making the post is the only one who can see the word edit under thier post.If you look at the bottom of my post you do not see the word edit but I do. Mods are the only others that can edit your post, they are all seeing and have many powers that we mortals do not have.
