OMG we can post images. This is going to really help with the game project though add a little more work. :) Thanks for the games rO. The following images of rollerball were copied from Caimans and the ones for silverball from Google image. I then uploaded them to an ftp so that they could be posted here. Please excuse the differences in scale. I need to reinstall my image applications so that I can make them more suitable for posting. :)

Thanks rO! Especially for the pinball.
I had Silverball on my old win95 machine and played it in every free minute not very many in that time - memories.... One day not only the game got broken but even the computer. As I was sure that the game destroyed the puter, I didn't dare to put it on the new machine, win98. Now with Vista and some better understanding of computers I'll give Silverball a new chance, and now I have lots of time for playing. Let's see, if it is still as exciting as it was then.
More memories: In times of the good old classic tables I got the nickname "Tilty".

I have 2 games today... the forums are different :). Rollerway is a marble rolling game where you have to reach the finish line at the end of the tunnel and avoid falling off. This game is also extremely difficult, and it really needs checkpoints instead of restarting the level when you fall off. I suggest taking things slowly when you get stuck. Silverball 1995 is an abandonware pinball game from Abandonia. The Game Torpedo website also has a few games I haven't seen before so I'll probably post more from there later.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rollerway

Rollerway is a fast-paced action game in which you must get the ball to the finish line whilst not falling off the track. There is a total of 15 levels, each getting progressively harder.

How to play:
Use the mouse to control the ball (you may also use the arrow keys if enabled). Click to roll forwards and move the mouse sideways to steer the ball. Get the speed boosters (blue lights) and jump boosters (purple lights) which are placed throughout all 15 levels. Enjoy!

Note:
In order to enable arrow keys you have to create a shortcut to the game. Right-click on the shortcut and select properties. In the target box add -ENABLEARROWKEYS to the end of the line so it looks like:
"C:\*path*to*location*\Rollerway.exe" -ENABLEARROWKEYS

Download (14.6 MB):
Requires DirectX 9.0c

http://www.gametorpedo.com/games/rollerway

or

http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f3905.html

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Silverball 1995

Game arcades were an important form of entertainment long before they started using computers to power up sophisticated games to play. After all, even Edison’s motion picture viewing machines were more or less a penny arcade attraction.

But there is a machine without which you simply cannot imagine an arcade and that’s the good old pinball machine, with its decades long tradition of producing weird sounds and forcing you to spend both time and money.

Apparently pinballs converted quite nicely from the classic tables into computerized version (there are many pinball games confirming this statement).

One of familiar names when talking about computerized pinballs is deffinetly Silverball, originally released in 1992. After three years on the market, the game was slightly modified and re-released in 1995 and that’s the version we’ll take a look at today (in the Silverball review by janm.l already on the site it’s mentioned as “Silverball Plus 2”).

Well, it seems that there really isn’t much difference between the both games, except for the two added tables you can play (Warbot, and Duel). Here’s a little overview of the tables prepared by WolverineDK (who is also the person you should thank for supplying the game archive):

Fantasy table is set in roleplaying setting (meaning dragons and other fantasy creatures are on the table).

Nova could be called a tribute to many 2d shooters, meaning there is a big space-jet near the bottom of the table and the game is set in space.

Blood table is also set in a fantasy setting, just like Fantasy.

Snooker Champ table is a Snooker Billiards themed table.

Odyssey is a Greek mythology themed table, with Atlas holding a pinball on his shoulders instead of the world.

Warbot is a futuristic robot themed table.

And finally Duel, which is a medieval/musketeer(ish) themed pinball table.

Controls:
Space - launch ball, nudge table
Left Shift - left flipper
Right Shift - right flipper
Enter - Toggle score display on/off
Ecs - Quit Menu

Download (1.27 MB):
Note: Works best in DosBox, I couldn't get it to work properly in XP. Run SILVER to start the game. There seems to be a glitch where it shows two FANTASY tables but the second is actually the NOVA table.

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/1014/Silverball+1995.html

I have to tell you I really am enjoying this game. I did have to down load the RPG file to get VISTA to run the game and than it messed up the way my screen looked (the size) for every thing else. My son had to resize it for me, as he is my computor advisor. I just play the games.
Thank you so much for the free games. I really would like to see some for the younger crowd if you come across any. It cost me a fortune to get games for my grandson as he runs through them so quickly.

Hmm, that's odd because the RTPe download fixed my installation and I don't have RPG Maker. Now I'm puzzled. Apparently these two separate fixes will work depending on your computer. Elsewise, I'm completely stumped.

All,

Just to clarify Whiterabbit's later Edit (as it had me puzzled for a bit):

The link he's referring to can be found at the end of the Abondonia page describing Final Fantasy: Endless Nova, just after where it says "Important". clicking on this link will allow you to download "RPG Maker 2000.exe" (also 11.4MB).
Do NOT download "RTPe.exe"; as Whiterabbit correctly states, it does not work!

Good luck

Darn it. I wasn't able to get the game to work. Unfortunately when trying to install the runtime file it comes up with the following message:

"Can't extract file c:\Windows\System32\Harmony.dll"

Downloading Harmony.dll from a dll download site doesn't fix the problem.

Wouldn't you know it? I was really looking forwards to playing this game. I bought a copy of Final Fantasy VIII several years ago, but was never able to get it to run on my then computer and whenever I've upgraded or built a new computer I've tried to install the game without success, so I thought with today's free game I'd be finally able to at least experience what all the fuss was about when this game was all the rage. "Cest la Vie"

If anyone does have a fix I'd be really pleased to here it.

regards

Whiterabbit

Edit:

After my initial disappointment at not getting this to work, I ended up reading all the information found about the game from the link provided above by Wizzard of Oz and right at the end there was a link to another version of RPGMaker that actually worked. the first time I tried to install it I got a message saying that there was a newer version already in windows System 32 's folder (which was the one I installed earlier), so I deleted it and then tried again. It actually froze, so undeterred I decided to try one more time and it finally installed okay and the game works perfectly.

the only negative thing I would say about this game was the fact that you had to sit through the dialogue at the beginning of the game, which seems to take an inordinate amount of time, otherwise an excellent free game.

Today’s Game is called Final Fantasy: Endless Nova. This game is an independent project from a fan of the series. And plays like your typical Final Fantasy game from the olden days.

The programmer did a great job at creating a game that even die hard FF fans would like. The game starts out with a rather lengthy intro about a girl being chased by “the President,” and getting away. The game moves on to see our hero, Derren, collecting money for a job to recapture a stolen weapon from a bad guy named Sho. Derren has a past with Sho that you will later find out.

The game does not require dos in order to play the game, but you’ll need to download RTPe.exe (run-time used for RPG Maker) if you don’t have it already. I have provided the link below. The file size for the RTPe is 11mb and the game itself is 6mbs. The game runs fine in Vista 64.

Keys are as follows:
Enter – open doors/use items
Arrow Keys – move
Any button on the bottom alphabetical row of keyboard – game menu
Escape – In battle and menus this is used to go back one screen
I give the game an 8/10 because of simple little glitches in the game, and lack of key mapping or readme file.

Saving the game can be accessed by talking to a “PoPo” (a little bunny like thing.)

RTPe.exe:

Stephen you are way too humble! You see, you made the two most important points yourself. I have the time also, since I only work part time, BUT, I am lousy at searching the internet; AND even if I were to strike upon some decent games, am not computer savvy enough to trust what I would come up with on my own. I know that when I click a download link that you have provided it will be safe. And you haven't steered me wrong yet. That, sir, is what makes you so invaluable and a bottomless virtual teacup is headed your way!!!

Thanks Suzi. What I do really is no big deal. Most of the games can easily be found if you know what the name of the game is called. Think of a game you played back in the 90's, then type in download plus the name of the game and you're sure to get some hits (though if you're not using a warning program such as WOT or McAfees Site Advisor I'd be a little wary where you search). Most pre millenium games are probably abandonware now, so its likely that they will be available on sides like abandonia.

I'm lucky enough to have the time to do the searching. I appreciate the nice words, but they really arn't necessary. Now go and get me a cup of tea, lol.

I’ve tried to add a good sprinkling of decent free pinball games. I highly recommend downloading future pinball if you have some spare time. It’s a pinball development package that enables you to design your own table. I’ve added a download link to a site that hosts well over 300 free pinball tables made using this program. There’s also a tutorial available to walk you through the stages. Plus there’s several links to other pinball tables that I’ve added. I’d have listed even more, but thought it would be a good idea to post the rest some other time as there’s plenty to be going on with. :)

F1 Pinball: (14.7Mb)

The Game is designed around Formula 1's Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard's battle for the championship. The table is a true 2 player table where the players battle each other for the championship, accompanied with lots of Murray Walker remarks about each driver and challenging game play.

The game can be adjusted via operator menus to suit the level of skill the player requires.

F1 For Visual Pinball is in no way authorized by any official F1 or FIA party
This game was designed for free by F1 Fans for other Pinball/F1 Fans

Download Link:

======================================================================

Future Pinball: (19.2Mb)

Apart from the link I’ve added to the end of this section there’s also several more board available from the download page of Future Pinball.

Quote

Future Pinball is a real time Pinball Development System. It allows you to design and play your very own pinball simulation in True real time 3D. It uses Advanced Physics to provide the best possible Simulation of a true to life pinball machine.

Tables are built up out of Standard components (Plastics, Pegs, Bumpers, Lights etc..) which are placed onto the playfield via the Editor. Objects like Surfaces, Lights and Rubbers are shapeable within the editor and generated real-time when the table is played. Other objects (Bumpers, Flippers, Gates, Triggers, Targets etc..) use pre-made 3d Models (of which there is a nice selection of each type).

The Table logic is scripted in Visual Basic Scripting (via the Microsoft Scripting Technology's built into Microsoft Windows). Scripting is designed to be simple but flexible enough to allow a wide vararity of Original Games to be created. Only a limited subset of the Visual Basic Scripting Language is used as a lot of extra functionality is provided by the game engine.

Full Sound / Music Support is also provided with multiple Music Channels to allow cross fading.

As Future Pinball is a Game Construction Program it contains some advanced concepts which may require a little bit of time (and patience) to learn and fully understand (such as computer graphics and scripting concepts).

======================================================================
Visual Pinball: (3.66Mb)

http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f71.html

Features:

Complete freedom over table layout. If you like, you can start with nothing but a blank table and build up your creation. Or, start with a preset table or edit an existing table.

Curved surfaces. Walls and ramps can have both straight sections and smooth flowing arcs, as simpy as dragging a few points around.

True 3D rendering. Tables come alive with realistic shading and shadows. Choose to view the table at any angle, at any resolution - a small window to play while multi-tasking or full-screen max-resolution for the complete pinball effect.

Shaped Lights. Flashing arrows, arcs, semi-circles; lights can be made into any shape you deisre, or choose a simple circle to quickly whip a concept up.

Complete freedom over rules. The amazing VBScript based engine allows you to have any event create any effect! Combine events to create complex tasks, and give your game a real plot.

All the pinball parts are here. Plungers, flippers, kickers, bumpers, ramps, lights, text displays, gates, spinners, timers, triggers, decals, and drop targets are all at your disposal. And any wall section can become a slingshot with the click of a checkbox!

Shape your objects any way you want. A tall, thin bumper with a wide overhang? A short, stubby flipper that spins all the way around? Not a problem, just do it.

Add images to your board. Add your own pictures to walls, floors, spinners, bumpers, and targets to give your game a distinctive personality.

Choose any color you want for other parts like flippers, lights and text displays.

======================================================================

Psycho Pinball: (6.4Mb)

This is yet another great pinball game all the lovers of the genre need to try.
It’s loud and colorful, smoothly animated with almost real physics on the ball and the ability to slam the machine from either side in order to prevent the ball from sliding where you don’t want it to go. You slam the machine with both shifts and deflect the ball with both control buttons.

Needles to say the game supports multiplayer and there’s even less need to say that the multiplayer option consists of a hot seat where you and up to three more friends have to take turns (can’t really imagine two people playing pinball simultaneously on the same table).

There’s naturally some variety of the tables, where you get different settings, different targets and different scoring system, but every one of them is fun it its own right. The sounds vary from table to table to create the appropriate feeling, so you’ll hear either lots of bubbles (maybe even bursting when the ball is sunk) or witches laughing with high pitched voices (probably at your bad performances, of which I’m sure you’ll have only few).

There are four tables altogether:

Trick or Treat: As the name itself suggests it’s a Halloween themed table with witches and carved pumping all around.

The Wild West: You’re a horse ridding, lasso swinging, six-shooter carrying … err … pinball ball?! Yup, yer aimin’ to shoot that there high score, you are partner!

The Abyss: It has nothing to do with the sci-fi movie of an alien ship being deep under the ocean’s surface… well, except for taking place deep under the ocean’s surface. So I guess the term sleeping with the fishes isn’t just another mob phrase (at least not in this case).

Psycho: Now here’s a real treat for you! Unlike the rest of the tables (you’ll see that when you select other tables you’ll get a message playing on the single table) this is a multi table game. Now this is the true unique feature of Psycho Pinball and it’s possible only here, on the Psycho table. That’s right, this is the table where you can leave the circus and land on any other of the previously mentioned three tables (which can really boost your high score).

All in all a very good pinball game that will certainly waste a lot of your time.

NOTE:
The game works in WinXP, but is so slow there’s no point in playing it. I suggest you play it in DOSBox, but you’ll need to speed things up to around 12000 cycles. Another thing is, that this game doesn’t seem to allow you to use any programs for managing DOSBox (so you’ll have to run DOSBox the hard way).

Step by step guide to run the game:

Seeing how some people have problems running this game I was asked to add this to the review (although everybody who is comfortable with DOSBox will know that you can change the mentioned things):

1. Download and install DOSBox (prefrebly the latest version).
2. Download and unzip the game Psycho Pinball. (there should be a folder named PP with all the files in it).
3. Put the PP folder directly on drive C: (so you'll have a folder called C:PP).
4. Run DOSBox (no frontends - just DOSBox).
5. Enter the following commands (press enter after each line of command):
mount c c:\
c:
cd pp
psycho

You can download DOSBox from the following address:

http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1

Psycho Pinball Download Link

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/1038/Psycho+Pinball.html

======================================================================

There’s more but I’ll post those at a later date…… :) Though as always, if you back track on any of the links you will find more.

Regards

Hi, aRenegade,
if you are not looking for the newest, fastest, loudest or whatever have a look at caiman, they have a lot of nice free games - even pinball.
Hopefully some are fit for Vista.
