Hey this is really cool. It reminds me a little of Atmosphir, though you're not playing online cooperatively with other players in Atmosphir. This game is something I think my son will like especially if you can design levels to upload for others to play. I've just spent about half an hour, on and off, exploring the game and it's certainly worth checking out if you have children.

Hey "Lox", did you know about this game?? Do you speak "Robloxian"?

This is a great children's online game site. They create little lego creatures with clothes and build buildings and towns. They can create their own games. Free Games at ROBLOX.com

Here's a review from makeuseof.com Roblox - A Cool Lego-Based Free Virtual World for Kids

Parent’s – take note of this site. Here are some of the uber cool tools you can use to keep your wee ones safe:

    * All in-game chat is filtered for coarse language. As the parent, you can control whether they can chat or use something called menu chat. It’s a list of pre-written questions and responses. The kid’s just choose them and that’s all the communication they are allowed.
* You can control something called SuperSafe Privacy mode for the kids too. What that does is block ALL text fields from accepting any input. So your precious one cannot put any personal information out there.
* As the parent, you login for them using your email account. That keeps you in control of their playing time AND adds another layer of security from weirdos.
* Most importantly, Roblox has a team of paid and volunteer monitors who pore over all chat logs and forum discussions. There is zero tolerance for course or violent language.
* The Roblox team provides tips for online security and recommends other resources to help you have a fun, safe time online.

With the ability to build games, sell items that they make and interact with other games, kids are learning priciples of programming, design, marketing, business and Math skills. I fail to see the downside to Roblox.

And it has a Wiki page Main Page - ROBLOX Wiki

Roblox is an free online Multiplayer game, where you play in user-created worlds with blocks. Unlike most other games there aren't any pre-defined goals. You are given a variety of objects and left to do whatever you want. With your free account, you get a Character and a Place. You can customize your place and character however you want, and visit anyone else's place as well.

There is one downside, I feel. It only works in Internet Explorer; not Firefox.

They claim they have free games but I suspect they are the 60 minute trial versions. Does anyone know anything about them and if it is a safe site? WOT rates it green. Thanks.

I paged through several to see that there is definitely some quality work here. They even have hundreds of wallpapers for mobile phones free fore the taking.

*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*

A truly fantastic and psychedelic beauty is Ambiquity, a fractal video by Michel Gingras. The video takes awhile to load, but it's definitely worth the wait. Be sure to scroll down the page to and click on one of the pictures on the right to see all of his Flickr pictures too.

(Hint: Start the video then immediately press pause, wait and wait and wait until the gray bar loads completely. Click on the full screen icon in the lower right corner. When in full screen view, press play. Wow!)

Think spirograph on steroids, booze and PCP. There's no settings or on/off button, so if you like a picture, you have under a millisecond to hit Print Screen to save it. Totally useless, but something a little kid might stare at for a few minutes - ColorFantasy

Johnny Appleseed's been wandering around GAOTD trying to figure out where to sow an image sniffing seed.
No brainer, right? It should go on the Search Engine thread; but, it's a simple little thing that isn't very discriminating. (i.e., doesn't have the sophisticated winnowing options of Google Image Search) and it's hosted on a tempermental server... we all know how off-putting tempermental servers can be.
So, as I'm enamored with fractals, here IT is with an appropriate starter term already thawed for your convenience.

I played around with Bomb some more the other day. I loaded a few of my own gif files into the image library, turned on some old instrumental surf music and let the bomb run. I experimented with some of the keyboard inputs to see what would develop. The program allows screen shots to be dumped into a directory named "Dribble" by pressing the "=" key. It's a bit hit or miss as to what you will get because of ever-changing display. The screen shots are saved with a .ppm file extension. I uses the freeware IfanView to do a batch conversion to .jpg format.

BTW - I guess this is a fractal program, as it unzips into a directory named "Fractal Bomb".

Here is the slideshow of my Bomb screenshots. I did not have a chance to cull these to get rid of the really ugly pics.

_______________________________________________________
Note: If you decide to download Bomb be aware that it took a long time to unzip the files. I thought Windows Extraction Wizard had froze the first time I installed it, so I aborted. I had the program unzipped and was running it. But upon further investigation, I realized that I didn't have all of the files in the image library. I unzipped it again, rewriting the prior files and allowing it to finish the unzipping of the remaining files.

Has anyone tried BOMB yet? It is a really old program but I got it to work on Windows XP. Today, I turned on some music, started it in auto mode then started playing with the simple controls. I found that adjusting the audio levels (up & down arrows) made quite a difference to the display. I'm going to load some of my own gif files to the image library to see what that will produce. Just to give you an idea of what it can do, I've attached a review and screen shots from the site. It's much more interesting than the screen shots because the images are constantly evolving while it's running.

OMG! I downloaded BOMB today and have been playing with it for hours. Not exactly fractals, but a great eye-candy toy. Read the manual for keyboard controls or start any music source then start bomb and let the show begin.

Bomb is a visual-musical instrument. It uses alife, and is alife. It runs on your PC and produces animated organic graphics in response to the keyboard, audio music, or on its own. You can download it from this web site, and run it on your PC.

This thread seems a really good one to link with the wallpaper thread I just started. Fancy making a jigsaw of some of these images as the jigsaw giveaway will take these images via the load command.

Sorry ppl., I'm lost for the rest of my night in this link - did you see all the dragons and the faeries? and the chaos animations? and...

Keeping a thread alive... or hijacking it? You be the judge. This isn't a fractals link, it's digital art wallpaper.

I'd caption this sample -
"Sigh, people are getting so lazy, I gotta come up with ideas myself!"
or perhaps -
"The Lightbulb Faerie... where bright ideas really come from."
http://fantasyartdesign.com/free-wallpapers/wallpaper.php?u_i=97&i_i=357&best=true&srt=2

Johnny Appleseed's a tricky little devil... try clicking on the 2nd and 3rd buttons in the top navbar to see if there's any FREE ART or MODELING SOFTWARE you might enjoy downloading. :-)

Hello,

The Fractint link given above seems dead.

I found one here that seems to be the latest and that is for Win32. I remember this one from way back.
I must confess that fractals and chaos were responsible for changing Molecular Biology undergrad to Applied Math graduate studies back in 93.

Well, I dug out what I could see by email address changes, my over 10 year old Tech Republic sign on info (and now had to give them my phone number!!) so I was able to d/l Fractal Wallpaper. Really cool! I was tempted to set it to change the wallpaper every minute, but that may cause my system to cough so left it at 60 minutes. Til I get antsy and want to see all the artwork, anyway.
Thanks for ALL the links!

Peace
