Delenn13 Maybe you can help with a problem I have? I am sticking with Evernote 2.2 as I tried to convert my 2.2 database into the new Evernote and failed miserably. Besides I know just what I'm doing in 2.2. However, the reason I haven't upgraded to Firefox 3 is because at the time the Evernote plug in wasn't available and I have worried since that it would only be for 3.0 anyway. Would you know if Firefox will still install the Evernote 2.2 plug in (with the wavy lines as opposed to the 'elephant' representing the latest Evernote)?

Sorry to take days to get back to this thread, still having major computer/net issues, so I am only able to spend a short time on the laptop each day.

I have Evernote downloaded, but have yet to "explore" it or see what I can use it for. Just so used to keeping my own lists, etc. But have read about people finding great uses for it. Time to dust off the instructions, perhaps.

Good idea about Evernote, Nola. I use it a lot but never thought about just making a Game section. I do have the folders and sub folders also.I have some of them when it first started in Evernote plus in Taboo. Not to mention in folders..some just as shortcuts(love Deskcut for Firefox). Having a bandwidth cap can be a pain at times.

But they could quit for a week and I still wouldn't be caught up. Yes, g@rgoyle's list is so impressive..just like all the games I get from all of you.

OK..Now it's my last post..LOL

You're not, Nola! In fact, it's a almost a necessity here to keep all these wonders straight. I really need to get even more organized, as I truly forget what I have. And g@rgoyle's list is a classic. Especially when you "mean" to download things and forget to... it's a must! Whew. If only I had the time to try them all. So of course a lot are "on hold," but shall be gotten to... eventually. In fact, the guys could hold off a little and post one game at a time, if they'd like, or just post on certain days and we'd still be happy... but there's no stopping them! Lol! *&:-D

Hi Wizz, I have separate folders for you all too, not because any of you have 'better' games than the other, just because one folder for all got toooooooo big, so this was an easy way to split it up. Guess I'm as funny as midori, lol.

And Midori, sub-folders isn't so silly - I am seriously considering 'Platform Games', 'Arkanoid games', 'Puzzle Games' etc, etc. Although I'm seriously impressed with g@rgoyle's weekly synopsis which lists not only the games but also the 'genre'. At the moment I use that when looking for a particular type of game to install and play.

I also use my trusty Evernote to list all game descriptions and download links - also under each of your names! Now tell me I'm not anal, lol.

Hi, wizz... but of course! I started out with whiterabbit et al, but soon realized you needed individual folders. And soon you'll all need sub-folders. :D And no... Jade Empire has been staring me beguilingly in the face, so I put it under a stack of papers. Alas, I came home to a truckload of work, but that's good also... as work isn't always "there" as the games are because I freelance. But humbug to it. :b I haven't even had time to wear my hat.

Here are the last few games that I wanted to post from Hempuli. FIG is a lemmings-like puzzle game where you lead a brainless guy through levels collecting stars. Bombing Room is an extremely difficult platform game. Jump On Mushrooms and The Mushroom Engine involve platforming and a bit of puzzle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Floating Islands Game

FIG is a puzzle game where you lead a brainless guy across an island to collect stars and reach the goal flag. To do this, you have to solve puzzles that involve manipulating the environment with the mouse. The levels are not in no order of difficulty, there are usually a few easy levels followed by a harder one. You can skip levels so if you get stuck, you can just go to the next one. Each level also has a bonus blue star that you can find to unlock secret levels. I highly recommend this game.

FIG is a lemmings-like puzzle platformer hybrid where you guide a brainless guy trough 35 islands by communicating with the environment around he guy. My best game so far. Features also awesome music made by Johan hargne, and ending music made by Nawby. The game comes with a tutorial, so do not worry if you at first don't understand what to do!

Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJutpURj_SU

Download (36.5 MB):
http://hempuli.com/FIG/

Alternative Download:
http://www.create-games.com/download.asp?id=7279

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bombing Room

Bombing Room is super-difficult platformer where you have to avoid getting killed while collecting green orbs. Each level is filled with numerous enemies and traps and their only desire is to kill you. Be prepared to spend lots of time dying and restarting each level before you finally complete it. You luckily have a sledgehammer that can be thrown to defeat enemies and activate switches. I only recommend this if you like playing hard games.

Finally something that isn't purely a puzzle game! Bombing Room is a platformer, that resembles Jetpack (Adept Software, 1993), Tekkyuuman (Ikiki, 2007) and maybe a bit of N (Metanet Software, 2005). The idea is to lead a lonely sledgehammerman to freedom by collecting strange green orbs. The game features a level editor, and many campaigns.

Controls:
Arrows: Move
Shift: Jump (Hold to jump higher)
Ctrl: Release sledgehammer
Ctrl + Y: Change controls

Alternative Download:
http://www.create-games.com/download.asp?id=6987

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jump On Mushrooms: The Game

Jump On Mushrooms and The Mushroom Engine are what I like to call a backwards mario games. You'll see what I mean when you play it. The Mushroom Engine below is an updated version of this game so you don't really need to play the old version. Also, when you finally get to the title screen wait for a bit and don't quit the game for a bonus.

This is an experimental game I created in 2 days just to try out the idea. The game is rather glitchy and ugly, since it was done in a hurry. The Readme contains all the needed files, so make sure you check it out!

Download (6.14 MB):
http://hempuli.com/mush/

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Mushroom Engine

Nicklas 'Nifflas' Nygren was interested in the mushroom concept, and wanted to remake the game, this time with his awesome skills. I of course helped him a bit, but he did all the really hard work. The game also has some very cool musics, made by D_Fast!

Basically this is the same game as Jump On Mushrooms: The Game, but it has more everything, and also a level editor. Once again, all the important information is in the Readme.

I decided to post a game today to give Wizzard a bit more of a break. This guy have some really great games that I'll post more from later. Pencil & Paper is similar to lemmings combined with a drawing game. Once in Space is a puzzle platformer set in space.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pencil & Paper

Pencil & Paper is a puzzle game, where you must lead a brainless sketchman to the other side of the level. He must also collect all stars in a level before he can pass to the next level. The thing that makes Pencil & Paper playable is the twist: you can draw lines with your mouse, and the sketchman can walk on them! It becomes a nice puzzle to find out what's the fastest way through the levels. The game also has a hard mode for those who think the game isn't hard enough for them. The game has 8 levels in total.

This is a fun little game where you can draw bridges, stairs, and walls, to lead the guy across the level and collect all the stars. It's fun to replay levels and try collecting stars in a different order and find alternative solutions. Hard mode just adds extra stars that need to be collected.

There are two versions of this game, a normal version and a deluxe version created for the 20-event competition. They both have different levels but the deluxe version seems to have an annoying "getting stuck" bug where the guy randomly gets stuck on a drawing and you have to restart the level. But I didn't really notice this bug in the normal version.

Download (both 5 MB):
http://hempuli.com/PP/

Alternative Download:
http://www.create-games.com/download.asp?id=6837

Alternative Deluxe Download:
http://www.create-games.com/download.asp?id=7162

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once in Space

Once in Space is a puzzle platformer. Your objective is to collect all stars in a level and then reach the goal flag. Sounds easy? There's a gravity-based twist that will make it harder! This game was made kinda like a sequel for Pencil & Paper.

Once in Space has a neat twist where you can change gravity by holding ctrl when walking on a corner with red pixels. In each level, you have to collect stars and reach the goal flag. But you can only collect stars when the gravity is in the correct direction indicated on the arrow. You have three lives to complete each level before any collected stars reset. The hard mode that adds extra hazards to each level. Also, there is a secret hidden in the first level...

Today, I have 4 more games by the Game Creation Society. Bossmen is a 3rd person shooter about boss fights. Dreamscape is a 2d fighting game. Raincat is a puzzle game. Treesuit is a combination of stealth and dancing.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bossmen

Bossmen consists of seven unique boss battles. You are a “hero”, equipped with a lasergun and jetpack to defeat the Bossmen. The game has a typographic health system, with parts of the characters’ names disappearing as damage is taken.

An astute observer might ask, why are you fighting? Can’t we all get along? Well, being cubist, the Bossmen have taken a disliking to your supple round corners and high polygon count. And for Bossmen, disputes are not solved by words, but by lasers.

Bossmen is a fun 3rd person shooter with bosses that can all be selected from the start. The bosses include a box, a phonograph, a wall, a volcano, a mole, a beehive, and a 3-eyed floating thing. Most of the boss battles are very fun and unique.

Controls:
Mouse - aim
Left Click - shoot
W - move forward
S - move backward
A - strafe left
D - strafe right
space - jetpack

Download (23.6 MB):

http://www.gamecreation.org/games/bossmen

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dreamscape

Dreamscape is a fresh take on a classic genre, the 2D fighter, set in a restless world of imagination created by the collective dreaming of every living thing on earth. The King Dreamer of this world is going into retirement, so a new king must be found! Play as the King Dreamer, Shaktool Fremont, and his would be successors – a collection of characters including squid ladies, school girls, and a foetus controlled robot (?!).

Dreamscape is a 2d fighting game. It's probably best to play this with two players. There's not that much to do in single player and the computer ai isn't really that smart. You can do weak attacks, strong attacks, and special moves. Crouching and jumping allows you do dodge attacks. You can also block attacks and counter them.

Download (37 MB):

http://www.gamecreation.org/games/dreamscape

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Raincat

Raincat is a 2d puzzle game similar to the Incredible Machine and Lemmings series. Your goal is simple: guide the cat safe and dry to the end of each level. Just mind the rain, puddles, and loose fire hydrants in your path!

Raincat is a fun puzzle game where you have to get the cat to the star while avoiding water. Because everyone knows that cats hate water. There are nine levels and multiple solutions. You have multiple items ranging from umbrellas, platforms, boots, springs, and more. The mouse is used to select and use items, and the arrow keys move the camera. It's really funny when Raincat collects the star it transforms into Lasercat and annihilates the water (and probably half the world as well) :).

Download (10.5 MB):

http://www.gamecreation.org/games/raincat

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

treesuit

Sneak past guards in 5 levels to locate each of the bosses. Get caught by the guards and you'll have to lower suspicion by finding a safezone and playing the suspicion minigame. Along the way you can interact with the animals and talk with the gnomes. Once you find the boss, you face off in a dance-off minigame. You must convince each boss to stop harming the environment by showing them your best poses!

Treesuit is an unusual combination of stealth game and a dancing game. The basic story is that you're a mutant tree that has to stop an evil corporation from polluting the environment and marketing their product... by dancing. Each level is divided into a stealth section and a dance section against the boss. In the stealth section you have to sneak past enemies to the goal. If they see you, you must get back to the nearest safezone and do a minigame to lower the suspicion meter. Bosses are fought by dancing which is done by pressing the combination of keys that appear on screen. Treesuit is a really amusing and fun game.

Download (57 MB):

Lemmings are small rodents, usually found in or near the Arctic, in tundra biomes. Together with the voles and muskrats, they make up the subfamily Arvicolinae (also known as Microtinae), which forms part of the largest mammal radiation by far, the superfamily Muroidea, which also includes the rats, mice, hamsters, and gerbils.

Hi 2sweetcamom,

Did you click on the download button next to the specifications? That takes you to another page where there's another download button about two thirds of the way down the page on the right hand side. That button should give you a direct link to the download. If it isn't working it's got to be something to do with your computer. I've tested the link on two computers and it works on both. It could be your firewall that's causing the problem, or even the internet cache. I suggest clearing out your cache by right clicking on your internet browser icon and selecting internet properties. From the window that pops up you can delete temporary folders and all your previous browsing history as well as other stuff. I've found on several occasions when I've been having trouble downloading from the internet that cleaning out all the caches and temporary folders has helped. As a final resort, turn off your firewall for a few moments while you download the games. If this doesn't work let me know and I'll search out some alternative download sites (there will be more because this was a classic game)

Regards

Stephen

Hi Wabbit! Doing a great job!! But I was sure looking forward to giving lemmings to my daughter to keep her busy while she is down and never could get them to download. They would lead me around in a circle from one D/L button to another one and then to another game page or to a "No, I can't find this page." I even changed all my settings and it still didn't change the circles. I just thought of something though. I didn't restart after I changed the settings. That might have made a difference. I'm going back and try again. If you don't hear from me again tonight, I was able to get them! Thanks for your work, it is appreciated!

Hi Stephen, The link you are looking for is: http://www.classicgamingpresents.com/store/lemmings-collection-classic-games-vista-p-32.html?osCsid=gour5btq0j6bcb0hp0lj8bbsh4

This gives you the page where you can purchase and download the Lemmings Collection. The cost is UK4.99, (can't find the pound sign on this laptop) no idea what that is in US$, but it is pretty cheap in NZ$.

If you just enter the url up to 'store/' you will get the start of their catalogue, there are hundreds of cheap games to purchase, all modified to work on XP and some on Vista.

Hi pavid, I hope they work for you. If not I have an 'official' copy of the original Lemmings with Oh no not more Lemmings that I'll happily give you (these freeware ones work okay for me). You'll have to contact admin to ask to pass on your email so that we can contact each other so that I can then send the disc onto you. I also have Lemmings 3D, but I'm still not quite finished with that one. Actually you can buy the whole set of Lemmings; that includes the ones I’ve posted as well as the 3D one (Lemmings Revolution) and all the holiday ones (Holiday 1991, 1993 and 1994) as well as the Christmas 1992 edition plus 'Oh no not more Lemmings', which I think was less than $5….. I’ll have to ask a lady who frequents these forums for the download address because I don’t have it and can’t find it.

Hi Dan, Most of the reviews that have been added to the free weekday games thread are not actually my own work, but that of others. I’m just quoting from the download pages. I’d write them myself, but it would be too much to do for one person. I try to add my opinions or some personal stuff, but it’s usually about other games I’ve played or am buying or have bought etc.

Most of the games can easily be found by anyone with a little time or inclination on their hands. Just by back tracking on many of the links you’ll find a treasure trove of games. As mentioned previously I’m enjoying doing it. I’ve discovered some old classics that I thought I’d never see again and some that I never new existed. Many I probably wont keep as I have far too many games for any sane person anyway; that most times I find it really difficult to decide what to play (though not at the moment as I’m thoroughly enjoying several of the last few games I’ve purchased, plus some old ones).

Thanks for your vote of confidence grnnysews54, it’s always appreciated.

All your words alone make it worth doing this.

Regards

Stephen

Note for Nintendo DS Owners:

If anyone uses one of those special discs for the Nintendo DS that enables you to play home brew games you can download the Ultimate collection which contains every level of Lemmings ever made for Free from:

http://nintendo-ds.dcemu.co.uk/lemmings-ds-v7-03-full-the-ultimate-lemmings-collection-67507.html

Though you’ll have to register on their forums first. The page I’ve linked to isn’t the download page. Out of respect for the poster I’ve posted the link fron the source. You need to go to the forums to find the actual link and until you’ve registered it’s a dead link.

Hi Stephen,
Many thanks for all the free games you've been posting. I now have a substantial list of games that I need and want to work my way through.
Your posting of Lemmings is particularly fortuitous as I have been looking for one that works, never mind works properly, for the last couple of weeks. None of the ones I found would work so I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that these play as I remember. I particularly miss the Lemmings cry of "Oh No!!"

Hi Whtierabbit! Thanks so much for all the hard work you are putting into finding free games for us. While I may not download everything you post, there have been some gems that I have come to love. I don't even bother to surf the net anymore as I don't want to spoil the surprises you have waiting for us. I've even come to ignore the weekends from GOTD, as most I don't care for, but always find at least one when you post your daily lists. Again, thanks so much, you are truly appreciated!! Laura
