If it's happening on both your computers it would indicate it has something to do with with an external source such as your modem or router. Have you tried re-booting these? Wen you turn the power off make sure you leave it for atlease 20 seconds to ensure any residual charge (usually stored in any capacitor on the modem and routers circuit boards) within the modem and router are dispersed.

This already happened to me 2 or 3 times:
When trying to install a Giveaway I am getting following error:
[quote]The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
I am still getting the "Activation Successful" message with the activation key. Nothing seems to have been installed on my PC. I tried to install on a second PC - same problem.
Incidentally, the 1st PC run on XP Professional, the 2nd on Vista.
Any suggestions?

Hi Jevena welcome to the GOTD forums !
Sadly the installation window for the Jewel Craft game is shut now.
Like the message says, GOTD software and games are only Giveaways of one day. That means, you can download the software on the given day and have to install and activate it on the same day. Then you can use it as long as your system lives, but you can not reinstall it. You can install it on that day on as many computers you have, but can not take it over to another system on another day.
But don't be sad, just have a look into the Freeware-Library

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/freeware/

there you'll find a lot of giveaways for every day. Or - and you are on the best way to it - have a look-around in the forums. Here you find a overwhelming amount of FREEE games. This place is it's own hidden objects game, you never know in which thread you'll find a link to a game.
Most likely you will find one or two or even 500 games under this link:

Games Discussion

Have fun and come back

You can try changing the compatibility to xp2 in properties. For me JewelCraft runs just fine, it's Ball-7 that won't run for me.

I successfully downloaded and installed Jewel Craft on my Vista Laptop and today I copied files and setup to flash drive so that I could also install it on kids XP Comp.
When I double click on Jewel Craft Icon (after copying files to XP folder) I just get a black screen trying to load the game I guess but nothing more. When I click on set up exe. it tries to validate the game online and says free download has expired.
What am I doing wrong?

JEG88, apologies if you think I sounded cold - truth be known I hadn't run out of enthusiasm to help you - I'd run out of the will to stay awake. But even after another 3 hours sleep - I still have no idea why only you have this exact problem (twice). If I was at your PC I would probably try to start Frigate while watching it with Sysinternals Process Monitor. Sometimes that can help determine where/why a program is choking. (If I could reproduce the problem on my PC - I could probably narrow down what was wrong in minutes).

One idea I have (a benefit of sleep) what happens if you close all running programs - including all the programs you are able to close running from the system tray. (Then double check Task Manager to make sure all your programs have closed) - and then try to start up Frigate. Perhaps a program you use (and have running) isn't too keen on sharing the desktop with Frigate.

Edit: Obviously not 100% awake yet - now I notice BillW50's post above. :)

Have you shutdown all of your startup programs living in your system tray, JEG88? As I have found problems like this before. For example, if Sticky Password starts before AltDesk (both were GAOTD programs), AltDesk will not launch or run. Run AltDesk first, and they both run fine.

awhh,...I'm crushed.

Well, guess I was wrong;......--Looks like you've run out
of enthusiasm. At least for helping me w/ this.
............
you wrote:
(Are you sure it's not you? j/k)
............

Well,-yes;...and that's possibly the only thing I'm
sure of when it comes to this mess of a Mystery!

It must not be the SW, -'cuz no one else is having this
problem.
The SW is installed and activated fine; -its just not
opening properly.

-So it must be my PC.
The OS., the SW installed (many from GAOTD), and
Frigate3,...-Just aren't 'playing' well 'together'!

--Something {it seems} is 'keeping' it from opening!
-I just can't figure out what/why.!

I've tried several things:

> checked-out my McAfee Security -to see if it was
blocked.

> tried removing the "Tips"-file from Frigate3.
...[ I couldn't figure-out how to disable or remove
the whole "Tip of the day" - pop-up-window
'cuz I couldn't find it.]

> I tried 'removing-,re-DL,-reinstalling,+rebooting'.
...-[several times]-

> I even took a chance and e-mailed the Co.
[-I know the rules,..but it was worth a try.]

Then,..I didn't know what else to try/do.

........................................................
>You wrote:
It worked without a hitch for me - not a single
problem whatsoever.

JEG88, I guess you just were never meant to run
Frigate3
........................................................

BuBBY,
That sounds a little cold coming from you.
Your usually much warmer when dealing w/ people.
Even if you can't help you'll offer some kind words or
friendly gesture. .......... :(

Oh,well.
Maybe your just having an off day.?
That's OK,..some other time then.
Thanks anyway. :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I can just hope that some other "Techies" may
drudge through this, get a brilliant idea and offer up a
suggestion to my strange Frigate3 problem.!
I know your out there and I know there has to be a
solution!
Good Luck!
First prize gets a "I'm the only one smart enough to
fix this!"----Smiley Face :) ....{make it two-}.. :) !!
-Hope that inspires someone!
I believe the developers of each days giveaway are paid based on each install (or something to that effect).
I guess the accounting and such becomes a lot easier when there is a definite start and end time/date. It also focuses everyones attention on one or two programs rather than trying to help people with 40 or 50 different programs on a single day (2 is usually more than enough).
Also visiting the site regularly is much more important when there is some urgency on not "missing out", instead of just putting it off until the weekend and "catching up".
But I understand fully - there have been several giveaways in the past I have missed because I was away from home, or busy - but the 24 hour limit applies to everyone equally.
Yea.. you have to install it within the time it's being given away. You have 24 hours. There's a counter on the site's main page that let's you know how long you have left to download/install/activate the software.
I have been saving the programs I though I might be interested in to install when needed then I noticed an install deadline for today's program. Do all programs have an install deadline. If so that really sucks.
You run activation.exe to register the details in the registry, make sure the application (install maker) is closed before running activate.exe
I just installed Smart Install Maker - but having a look into program shows that this program was no activated (no User name / License key). Even Activate didn't give me any information what should be done by me. Is everything ok so? I don't think so.
