If you aren't already (especially with large downloads) always use a download manager.

There are many reasons not to just use your browser to download files - the biggest being the support of restarting or resuming downloads that time out or when you lose connection with the download server, and advanced error checking.

What is a Download Manager?

I recommend & use Orbit Downloader and FlashGet Classic Version 1.73

BTW - The files were not corrupt on the server. That has more to do with the quality of your network connection and how you download the files. Regardless how busy a server is - using a download manager with error correction will prevent any "corruption" that occurs between the download server and your hard disk.

I downloaded the file over about 5 different attempts (because I was working on other things that needed the bandwidth). Each attempt I just picked up and resumed the download from where I left off. For the last 40 minutes of the download I actually was simultaneously downloading from both sites to get my maximum speed of 50 kb/sec.

I had to “download” this game seven times, because your @#!$ servers were so slow and inefficient that the files were corrupt. I finally got a good copy with 17 minutes left in the giveaway time frame. I activated the “exe” file, and it finished with 3 minutes to go… then I ran “setup” and it finished three minutes past the allowed time and the window popped up saying that the game was no longer available! I give the game 8 and this site which used to be great no deserves a minus score!!!

Try the mirror when that happens. I once kept getting a corrupted download, tried the mirror instead and that worked.

Good afternoon Sagacity. I don't do the games much but after I saw your post, I decided to download the game. You are aware that it is almost a half of a gig don't you? At this time, its downloading as it should (approx 11 min on cable modem).

I'll edit this post after its completely downloaded and check the installation. The server isn't overloaded at this time anyway.
==============================================
The download went smoothly and the file wasn't corrupt. Since I use winrar, I extracted the files to the location the download was at and did the install.

Everything went smoothly even though it is a very large program. The installation could be alot better though. I don't care for the self extractors and then you have to go and find setup.exe. (just a note to the developer-just a sinple install would be great. If one doesn't follow the process, there will be alot of files on the pc that will get missed when cleaning up the installation program).

Anyone installing the game, after installation go back to C:\Games\Extinction and remove the extraction folder and all contents to minimize disk usage.

Uninstalling went very well with hardly any clean up.

I've downloaded this game twice... once a four hour download, and the second time a three hour download... and both times the file was corrupted and would not work. I have broadband & not dial up... so the problem is with the site, not with my end.

I am downloading for a third time... and the net in ranges between 6 and 20 Kb per second, which is far below my system capability.

It appears that GOTD and GGOTD have a client base that has grown far faster than their ability to handle the technical demands. Further, they ignore repeated questions and assume that all complaints are unwarranted. This attitude will eventually destroy the site.
