Thanks for the game. I used to have this one on a floppy, but got rid of all my DOS based games several years ago. Dumped the whole lot including 100's of cassete games from the Commadore and some from the Atari. Now you can buy external cassette players etc to take all those old games. Still, who needs them now as most are available for free. Yeeeaahhh! :)

Nice to see you back involved with the project my friend. Curious what happened to The Web Master that you had last week? Anywho, great game and great idea to get back to the good old days of dos. I was just thinking this weekend that I should post more dos games next week. Thanks for the game =)

I'm posting the game for today, so I chose a DOS game--Micro Machines.
Micro Machines is a classic racing game of the nineties. Simple, fast-paced and lots of fun. You are given the control of miniature cars and you'll have to race AI opponents or your friends on various locations such as kitchen desks, pool tables, workshops, school desks, gardens, bathtubs etc.

The choice of cars is as diverse as the locations are: there are choppers, speedboats, racecars, tanks, jeeps, formulas and many more vehicles to choose. You'll spend hours just trying out the stages and vehicles. If you thought it ends here you were wrong!

There are also around 20 different drivers and opponents to pick. Its such an amazing game! :) My adrenaline level jumped just because I'm thinking about the game at the moment – just imagine what it feels like playing it then! :)

The controls are simple – you just need to accelerate, turn and slow down. There are a few modes of playing. You can compete against computer opponents in single races or tournaments, or you can race your friends in head to head mode.

The graphics are just sweet and sounds are satisfactory. In conclusion, this is an all around great game that should clearly be given a mark of 5 . Strongly recommended!

Merri.....Have you ever tried Samorost? It's the same principal as The Blue Beanie. It's also at Casual Gameplay. There's also a much longer version of it that's free online. I was playing it for a long time but can't remember if I ever completed it....there were over 100 levels. Can't remember the name but I'll try to find it for you.
BK

------edit------
Found it....it's Wogger, and is also at Casual Gameplay. Check it out.

The list was rather current up until the forums switch-over. When the switch happened, they used a different set of mark-ups, that didn't update the old ones. Every time G@rgoyle tries to edit a post to include the newest game, it screws up all of the url markups. She's trying to get a new program coded to convert them, and refuses to have any help from us to fix them (=p at granny) The post is closed to keep people from spamming in that thread. It does get updated regularly (up until now), though so even though it says it's 8 months old, it's still seeing a lot of activity. =)

Whiterabbit, thank you for taking notice of my post. Organizing game titles complete with a synopsis of the associated gameplay, mentioning the download location, and possibly commenting on the type of controls utilized is a Herculean job. If anyone can organize such a task I believe that it would be you. Your knowledge of games and your gameplay experience astounds me. I know that you have enlisted and accepted volunteer help from many other knowledgeable gamers. I hope that you and the others will work on organizing the games that you have made available so that it is easier for non-gamers to find and select games that they might find enjoyable.

The list that you referenced is the one that I mentioned was closed 8 months ago. “ http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4534 “ - from the forum’s last post “Topic Closed. This topic has been closed to new replies.”

Even though the referenced list is not completely current, I doubt that I would be able to work myself very far through it in what remains of my lifetime.

Hi Bigun,

It's great to see you around again. (You've just reminded me that I have a draft email waiting to be completed and posted to you). The organized list I think you're looking for (created by G@rgoyle) can be found via the following link:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4534

G@rgoyle has also now created a synopsis of all the Browser based games to be found in the forums:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/5709

While searching for the browser based games link, I realized how disorganised these forums are becoming. There are too many duplicate lists, which need to be tidied up. Thanks for bringing the problem to my attention. It looks like i'm going to have to spend some time trying to reorganise a few of the posts I've seen.

Regards

At one point in time games were offered through a daily giveaway program similar to the present GOTD. Game offerings later went from a daily offering to a program that offered games only on weekends. Apparently it was difficult to find games to offer even on a schedule of only 2 days a week. Whiterabbit, and others, began a daily game giveaway program to supplement the previous program offered by GGOTD (Game Giveaway of the Day). We have been blessed with information on a plethora of good and not so good free games through the various programs that I mentioned. As the list of game offerings has grown, I am finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with what is being offered.

At one time there was a running commentary for the daily game giveaways. Game titles, with a brief synopsis of game play, where listed in alphabetical order. I found the commentary to the helpful because it brought order to the growing list of free games available for download. The commentary that I am referring to was closed 8 months ago. If some other way for supplying information on available games took its place I have not been able to find it. I would like to once again be able to plug into an ordered form to keep up with the many games we are being told about. Is there an organized list of game titles mentioned here in the forums?

Yup, we're waiting. These days it's really hard to find new devs (nearly impossible for quality stuff). However, this wait isn't that bad. Approximately a new game giveaway every 2-3 weeks is better than the previous gap of quite a few months (I think it was March-June).

About Valve's Steam, I would have to disagree that it's just merely a "game manager". It's really a huge monster of DRM, online multiplayerism, IM, groups, yada yada. The list goes on, but it's mostly a monster, eating up a whole lot of RAM, and then add on the RAM of the game you're playing... Erk!

i don't think there's any intention of phasing out the game side of the project. They are just finding it difficult to get any games. Sites like Gamehouse Gametop, FreeGamesPick and MyPlayCity, plus others, that give free commercial games away, plus the fact that the recession has forced the price of arcade games right down to virtually nothing isn't helping the project.

Arcade games were priced at $19.99 for many years but over the last few years some sites such as Gamehouse, Big fish, Reflexive and others are now selling their games at an amazing reduction (less than $7). Also Valve runs a games manager where you can get amazing deals on the more expensive games such as Real time Strategy games and First Person Shooters. This is unprecededed. A couple of years ago it was rare to find such bargains.

Of courseI'm only speculating.

Regards

Ribbie, what is currently happening is that giveawayoftheday has run out of game developers at the moment. They are trying to contact other, but setting up a giveaway takes time, especially if they are a new developer. This is not the end, simply a waiting period.

It started out every day then it went to only weekends now it seems that even that is over...

Is it just that there aren't any free games or are you just fazing that pat out?

If it the end the the Game Giveaway, could you at least post something so everyone will know one way or another

Thankyou

The server is up right now, and will probably be so until 12 o'clock. I'm thinking of a tournament at about 6 p.m. MDT (GMT -0700), up until 12. However, everyone's free to come in throughout the day.

Edit: There isn't going to be much traffic today on my network, so there shouldn't be too much lag (unless it's the CPU).

Thanks GMMan. We could possibly advertise the server on the giveaway Steam groups page as well. :)

Just an announcement to everyone that my Xbox server is finally set up and that a BZFlag server is now on. To join you must have BZFlag installed (9mb download for Windows). Windows, Mac, and Linux compatible.

BZFlag: http://www.bzflag.org
Download: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3248
(find your platform: bzflag win32, bzflag Mac OS X; for linux use your package management program.)

After you've installed BZFlag, give yourself a callsign and ignore the password. Then, either enter 216.197.137.27 for the server and 5154 for the port, or use the Find Servers page and search for cdn52 (press "/" after the list loads, and then type "cdn52", and then enter).

216.197.137.27:5154 - cdn52 - Waterwars R1 - Hosted on Xbox

Note that the server may be a bit laggy, because there are some large FTP transfers taking place (usually FTP isn't that busy).

The server would most likely be available for Monday-Friday, so feel free to pop in anytime.
