https://www.infoworld.com/d/applications/occupy-flash-movement-wants-adobes-plug-in-dead-179355

'Occupy Flash' movement wants Adobe's plug-in dead
Keeping Flash Player alive on the desktop doesn't accomplish anything, say mobile app developers who want Adobe to kill the browser plug-in

And the group didn't mince words why it was after Flash Player.
Occupy Flash comes to bury, not praise, Adobe's Flash Player plug-in for desktop browsers.
"Flash Player is dead. Its time has passed. It's buggy. It crashes a lot. It requires constant security updates," http://occupyflash.org/

Our goal: To get the world to uninstall the Flash Player plugin from their desktop browsers.
The only way to truly force the web to embrace modern open standards is to invalidate old technology.
Now let's be clear: Disabling Flash Player in your browser will likely mean that some of the sites you use regularly are less usable (We're looking at you, Google Analytics. For shame!). Should you choose to join the movement, there will be some pain and sacrifice involved in your decision. But the more of us who run browsers that don't support Flash, the quicker that pain will subside.
Note: This is not a campaign against Adobe, or even their Flash platform. We're sure there are plenty of good uses for it, such as building great Air applications, for example. In fact, Adobe has stated they believe HTML5 is the future of web browsing. We're simply trying to help them get there a little faster (Sidenote: Adobe, if you're reading this, how about manning-up and supporting this site, like Microsoft did with the IE6 Funeral)
Use HTML5 Options when available
Many sites are starting to support HTML5 for things that once required Flash. For example, you can use YouTube without Flash by going to http://www.youtube.com/html5 and opting in to their non-Flash video player

Thanks Delenn

Though FlashOffLiner works with many flash games, it won't work offline with this one unfortunately! :(

This one uses a game loader swf file to download the game to the player. So the swf file isn't the game itself. Clever. Once downloaded to the player it must be stored on the computer somewhere as some sort of temp file, but goodness knows where this stored location is. (I know this as once loaded it will continue to play if I switch my internet off, but it won't load in the first place if the connection is off before attempting to load) It isn't in any temp location I've found yet, certainly not in the normal user temp folder. Locating and then using this would in any case be sure to be in breach of bored.com copyright!

If someone was clever enough to decompile the small swf file (don't ask me!), they might find the origin of the actual gamefile and (?) be able to obtain it, but this would very certainly breach the distributor's copyright.

That's a lot of words to say 'we can't play this one entirely offline!'

Flash OffLiner should play swf games that are over about 1Mb in size, but when the swf file is just a small number of Kb in size, it isn't the game itself! ;)

Draka (5Mb)

Continuing with the ‘spooky’ posts for around this time of the year, this is a flash game that can be downloaded and played offline. Rather than ghouls and ghosts, it has a Halloween based theme of a cute cartoony vampire-like ‘spider’ who can throw out a web string to any indicated location within a green circle, i.e. within a set distance of the spider. You can then cut web parts individually or in multiple or cut all of these by clicking on the spider, hopefully making the spider land on its victim(s)!

Draka is a mysterious dark creature, who looks like spider, and who has been awakened by some person acting most incautiously. Now he rocks the town by his notorious deeds - biting people and turning them immediately into spiders. Draka has made up a plan to turn a certain number of the townspeople into spiders, but the local citizens now already being aware of him, and are ready to take action and measures to stop him in his tracks. Help Draka to accomplish his mission before he gets caught!

Draka starts off very easy with the first few levels acting as a tutorial, but does get quite or very challenging as you go up through the levels. Finding which location(s) to spin a web line to and in what order to cut them, or indeed when to cut them all at once will get you well entangled in Draka the spider’s world! The game is semi-physics based, so you have to use gravity assist when you can and when you drop in on your latest victim!

The game is played with a mouse, clicking on available locations to spin a line to; and holding the mouse button and drawing across a line or lines you have made will cut the line(s). Clicking on Draka will cut all of the webs you have spun at once. Draka is only supported by the webs you make initially, but later other objects eg walls and roofs play a part and you will have to manoeuvre Draka around or off these objects by making and cutting new web lines. Being a spider of course, Draka can remake any web lines cut, provided they are within his reach! Then you’ll get torches to avoid which can harm Draka, and other objects to assist Draka such as balloons and crates. Web lines are elastic and stretchy so you can sometimes launch Draka in the desired direction.

The graphics are cartoony and great, and gameplay is a lot of fun as you try to get Draka new and tastier victims! There’s suitable sound effects and music to play along to. Don’t blame Draka for his compulsive biting habits, he’s only a spider and a vampire one, at that. So Draka bites! It’s up to you to provide him with his victims!

Who let loose the spider?! Can someone give Draka a new home? “Draka, Draka, come out, come on out, where are you?”

Halloween Shooter (<1Mb)

We all have to have some fun for Halloween, so I need to post at least this one (well maybe one or two more as well!) fun game for all of the family, and this is on a much lighter and totally less serious level and note! It has a Halloween theme of course with all of the trimmings, but as well as being partly a fun challenge, it also has a brighter and well funny side to it! There are 20 levels to complete, with 4 bonus levels unlockable at bored.com.

You see, as Count Dracula you can launch multiple (!) clones of yourself with a simple aiming system, to complete various tasks that no Count Dracula worth his salt (ouch!) could fail or fail to attempt! Now I say aha, as it’s dawned on me (shut out that sunlight someone!) that you have switch between the different monsters to fit the task in hand, so Dracula himself shuts coffin lids on himself, witches go into the cauldron and the mummy fits into his multi-colored case or casket. Try the wrong monsters and they’ll just pile up ridiculously as you shoot them at the targets.

To complicate matters slightly you then have to collect various monster coins to unlock the monster types. Then you get more monster types like Frankenstein, and more complicated tasks to do! Plus moving platforms and swinging beams, but it never gets too difficult! There are of course evil pumpkins that do their best to get in the way!

The graphics are bright and colorful and very nicely drawn. The tasks are semi-physics based and there are some cute animations. There are packs of candy a plenty and it’s fun trying to get all of these, as well as completing the challenges. The sound/music is bright but deliberately annoying after a short (or very short!) while.

It’s mouse controlled, aim with the mouse and shoot using the left mouse button. Placing the cursor further out lengthens the shot by increasing its power. It does get mighty challenging later on!

It plays in most media or Shockwave players with the downloaded file via an internet connection, but not in a browser from the download. You can also play it online at a large number of sites.

This is a bright and cheerful fun Halloween game for all ages!

Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ua8UKFySzP0 (shows levels 1-8 if watched right through)

You can see up to level 12 played through http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mtaG71sdLA

Download HERE (link is lower down page as ‘save to your desktop’) use the ‘save page as’ feature of your browser when the game loads. I have to make a humble apology. You can only save a swf downloader for this particular game, which gets the game eg into your media player via the Internet, ie it can't be played without an internet connection. Sorry on this one.

Play Online HERE or HERE

I think I waited for sales on both games and got them each at half-price... But that's only because I'm broke, not because I'm patient :)

Speaking of Portal, Steam's Midweek Madness sale is featuring both Portal 1 and 2 on sale to accompany the free (co-op) DLC of Portal 2. You can buy both games for just £11.49 ($17.49) or just Portal 2 for £9.99 ($14.99). Or you can get the Portal 2 two-pack for you and a friend for £17.49 ($27.49). Portal 1 is still the standard price of £6.99 ($9.99).

Any way you count it, Portal 2 is 50% off for another 32 hours :)

Thanks Bently, I'll check that out.

It was thanks to the free version that my son got into portal and when the second one came out he'd already saved for it. I told him to wait for a few months as he'd be able to get it for half price, did he listen (just like his dad). About 4 weeks after he'd purchased it it was on offer for 40 to 50% off.

I love this game and have played it through several times since I found it a few years ago.

If you have the full 3D version, from when Steam gave it away last year, 'We Create Stuff' has made a free map pack add-on that's identical to the 2D version. Just click on the MapPack link in the bottom right hand corner.

http://portal.wecreatestuff.com/

It's very interesting to see how they've translated a 2D game into a 3D world without losing any of the puzzles. It's every bit as devilish as the original :)

Portal: Flash Version - puzzle platform 6.8Mb

This is another Portal game again partly based on the original Valve Portal game. It gets remarkably difficult very quickly, as you are limited by the game as to where you can place entry and exit portals (dark areas are automatically prohibited, but other walls/floors/ceiling may or may not permit portals. Use the mouse left click to set the first portal and left click somewhere else to set the second portal. Press the ‘R’ key to reset portals, as they often get placed other than where you want them! Portals in this game are bi-directional. There is a good (and often needed!) walkthrough at http://armorgames.com/walkthrough/107. You might end up cussing the screen bluer than a BSOD playing this one! It's a very enjoyable fun, but often very challenging game! Do try this one!

If it won’t play in your browser, use windows Media Player or the free Swiff Player (Google for this) - or you can play online HERE.

Download HERE (The download link is the small blue disk symbol with 6.8Mb alongside at the top centre of the screen)

Hope you are keeping ok! Yes, have tried Chickenator (3D) version, end up getting a lot of egg on my 'face', but for $6.99 it's a lot of fun! :)

These look great games Chazzo, thank you. I love platform games but found the Quadrax ones too darned difficult for me. Not that these look much easier with the ability to move two characters at once. I'll give it a go when I've got them all downloaded. Much appreciated again Chazzo, you have listed many great games, especially for me as I'm not really into shooters (apart from Chickenator which is the most difficult shooter there is, have you played it or got it:)

Fireboy & Watergirl 1, 2 & 3 ( <1Mb for each game)

These are popular flash platform games that involve moving two characters independently and using both characters to complete tasks and finish levels. I’ve manage to find downloads for the original game and both sequels, so you can play them all offline, hence this post. There are also links to the similar games Twin Cats Warrior 1 & 2 with downloads, later in the forum post here for these also.

Gameplay is similar in both games and is quite a standard platform game, though having two characters to move adds character to the games. They are bit like the earlier versions of Quadrax, with arcade elements, but without the extreme difficulty or very complicated levels of Quadrax! And the fact that here you can move both characters simultaneously if you wish.

Fireboy and Watergirl 1

Fireboy and water does not mix, and Watergirl does not mix with fire, though Fireboy and Watergirl can co-exist together. Green mud is dangerous to both, and respectively colored gems are only collected by the respective character. There are various puzzles to solve, some of them physics based, including lining up rays of light using mirrors. Some levels are dark except in the immediate vicinity of the characters to add to the fun. Certain levels require simultaneous movement of both characters, or collecting a green crystal, to reach the individual exits for each of the two playable characters. Several new levels are unlocked by successfully completing a level. There are 32 versions in the first game and 42 levels for the second. Each level is timed and the time allowed varies for each different level. The difficulty level increases gradually throughout the levels, with the first few levels being comparatively easy, especially if you move the characters mostly one at a time.

Half the fun is controlling the correct character as it’s all too easy to move the wrong one and promptly have to restart the level, if either character gets killed. I have to admit, despite my playing guitar and some piano/keyboard, that except where it is absolutely necessary to move both characters together, I move one hand between the controls and move each character individually. It’s a bit like patting my head and rubbing my tummy, it needs plenty of mind/eyes/hand co-ordination to move both characters at once and avoid getting killed. It suits co-op play with two players at the same time of course, with the separate controls.

Fireboy and Watergirl 2

You use the ‘arrow’ keys to control Fireboy and the ‘W,A,D’ keys to control Watergirl. The up key in each case is used to jump. Menus are mouse navigated and you can retry a level or choose another level by left clicking the green button the base of each level. They play in XP, Vista and Win 7 in a sizeable window which can go nearly full-screen.

There is also a Fireboy and Watergirl 3 (30 levels). You can play this online eg HERE or HERE , or Download from HERE (use ‘save page as’.swf from browser, once you’ve opened the page, noting the save location). You can play versions 1 and 2 on many online sites, including at the links below.

These are fun platformers with colorful graphics and cheerful music that will have you puzzling for quite a while!

Pirates Vs Ninjas (2Mb)

Have to post this one, given the game giveaway today, as this one is partly similar, but to my mind Pirates Vs Ninjas has more inventive levels, you can accidentally sink or blow up your ship, and you fire either cannon balls or timed bombs. It also seems to play much better, and is generally much more fun! You also don’t have to scroll the screen, which is a decided advantage! Lastly, there are proper sound effects, not the ridiculous word Boom on the screen for explosions in the game giveaway!

You play 30 levels as Pirates and 30 levels as Ninjas. Some of the later levels require very accurate shooting, and you are given a par score for each of the 60 levels after playing the level. My record is 60 shots where the par is 20 (Uh-Oh!), second attempt rather better! You can replay levels you have completed, and unlock further levels as you progress. The difficulty of levels does vary and after a very difficult one you ‘might’ get a much more straightforward one.

The animations are a lot of fun, and the game is tremendously funny at times! Ninjas have a health bar and it may take more than one hit to finish them off. The aiming system is very good, no power bars, just point- and-click. Nearer your ship= less power, further away=more power, with the position setting the direction of the shot. There’s a wind factor involved, along with the motion of your ship affecting shots. Obstacles can hinder or be sometimes used to help with your shots.

Some levels have indestructible items, and there are various mechanisms to set in motion, including springs later on to bounce your cannon balls or bombs off. There’s booty to shoot for higher scores, and captives later on to avoid, as if they die you will lose the level. The Ninja master and Pirate captain can’t be killed by direct hits, only by knocking them off-screen, into spikes or into the water. Cannon balls and bombs trajectories can take them off-screen and sometime back onto screen at a further location. You can also bounce your cannon balls or bombs off whales, or use their water spouts to assist! If you can feed your enemies to the Kraken later on, you will get a bonus score.

The only thing that jars is the silly (but sometimes funny) 'insult' messages from your ship at the start of the levels. The music and sound effects are jolly and fun. The graphics are suitably bright and jolly to match.

You can play online HERE or HERE or download the game with the download link below. It’s a .swf file once extracted, so will play in most media players or the (free) Swiff player, in a resizable window, or you can open it with your browser, and of course play it offline if you wish.

Back to the original post, Apple probably see no place for Flash on the iPhone and similar, because many Flash apps and games are FREE!

Apple blame Adobe, but I am equally sure the 'fault' is directly with Apple.

However similar phones and products not made by Apple DO have Flash capability, so Apple are shooting themselves right in the foot over this one!

Thanks Dellen :)

Would like to think they might consider bringing out a Snail Bob 3 as the other two are just a little bit on the short side!

Thanks WR and Idunno,

I enjoyed these as much as, maybe more than any similar games recently, especially with the colorful graphics, inventiveness of some of the puzzles - and that most aren't 'impossibly difficult'! :)

Snail Bob 1 & 2 (10.1Mb in total)

These are very jolly and bright games with ingenious puzzles to solve, and very cheerful music to match. They are excellent for children being cartoony and very humorous! And for the young at heart at all ages! The puzzles are very nicely graded from very easy to quite a challenge, especially the later levels. I played them both through, 20 levels for Snail Bob and 25 levels for Snail Bob 2 in about half an hour, but they could take quite a bit longer depending on how well you can solve fun logical puzzles. Some levels are very funny, as are some of the cartoon animations. Some need trial and error, and repeated attempts to find out what is going on, solve the puzzles and put it all into practice!

Snail Bob 1

They are a lot of fun and very thoroughly enjoyable to play, though most puzzles shouldn’t be too taxing. But they might take a little brain power to solve! There are an assortment of switches, lifting and retractable bridges, falling blocks, turntables, operable springs, rolling stones and other contraptions. Some are some button operated switches , some are sliding switches, rotating levers, or dragable up/down levers. You can click on Bob to stop him, or click on 1 or 2 onscreen to change his speed. Mouse operated items generally have a dotted white circle around them when they are available. Other buttons need a logical puzzle sequence to unlock/operate them. There’s a video walkthrough available, though I didn’t use this myself to complete both games. Some basic hints are given in-game. The games are multi-language, and you can play them offline in your browser or most media players, if you download them.

Snail Bob 2

Both games are very playable, and very pleasurable to complete!
