Thank you Bubby and Funkymom for the links. I'll definitely check them out now. :)

That's another one for my growing favorites collection. Maybe we shouild start a thread where the community can post their favorite threads. Of course we would have to be careful with respect to links to red sites, pornography and the like. It should be purely dedicated to games and another one for applications. With community reviews etc about the games that are found.

For those interested in intriguing puzzles, check out 'Eric Haas Was Right' on LazyLaces site: http://www.lazylaces.com/

LazyLaces is devoted to interesting games. Some are the 'poke around and find clues' variety, others are likeable little quest-type adventures or logic games.

Several have exceptionally high quality in design and graphics, not the sort one would expect on a free games site. There are, of course, the retro-style games such as 'Phantasy Quest' and 'Bloons.'

Be sure to check out some of the links! I found LazyLaces via Spluch - http://spluch.blogspot.com/ - (another great site).

Thank you all you three, alexiussg, Keilaron, Jucati

I think, after reading the wiki article i understand a bit better.

and i think, i have expressed myself not very clearly in my original post, I was just curious about the differences of those two file extensions.

I have downloaded the swf-file already weeks ago successfully with orbitdownlaoder ( http://www.orbitdownloader.com/ )
but up until the GOTD of two days ago ( Moyea SWF to Video Converter Pro ) I was not successful in converting it to .avi,
I tried SUPER and MEDIACODER already, but i am not software savyy enough to made them work.

my curiosity was, like i said, flv seemed to be so easy to convert with so many online-sites, thus SWF seemed not.

but i am all good now, my newly converted swf file is working as avi perfectly.

SWF is typically vector-based, i.e., rather than keeping information on what color goes where (for example), it will instead remember mathematical information such as "Draw a circle, this size, this color, with this deformation".

FLVs are movies, on the other hand, and are just encapsulated inside SWF (I think); They contain an actual movie in another format, though I'm not certain what format that is (Maybe it's own, maybe just MP4, ... dunno).

Actually, have a look at Wikipedia's page on the subject:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Video
That should tell you all you want to know :> If not, ask more questions :D

SWF is a native file; that means, it's a Flash object (video/game/application) written natively in Flash and meant to be viewed/interacted with a Flash player.

FLV is a flash video player. The buttons, progress bar, volume control, etc are all natively built in flash, but the video itself may have originated from any number of formats. I don't know all the specifics, but I think everything from .mov to .avi and others are supported in FLV conversion.

I hope that helps.

(if you want to download a .swf file, typically you should be able to find its actual location on the server you're visiting by checking the html source)

I was just wondering, does anyone knows here, what the difference between swf and flv files are??
I just dl the goatd from yesterday , and it works perfectly for me, but i have always wondering, why those million of sites, that allow us to download and convert flv files for free from youtube & co (like www.media-convert.com, www.zamzar.com, www.vixy.net and two dozen others) but none of them worked with swf files.

First guess - DEP. (It's happened to me before).

DEP Issue
This only effects certain CPU's using the so called NX bit.
Additionally you MUST have XP SP2, OR Windows Server 2003 with SP1 to add this mod.
You need to disable data execution prevention for vtf.exe

Click Start button. Click Settings. Click Control Panel. Click System. When the System Properties box comes up, you'll see many tabs up at the top. Click Advanced. In the first section of the Advanced box, you'll see "Performance" and a button labeled "Settings". Click the Settings button. You'll see another window come up for Performance Options with three tabs at the top. Click "Data Execution Prevention".

By default, it's set to the top option; "Turn on DEP for essential..."
Click the circle underneath that, labeled "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:" (You'll see a message at the bottom that your pc does not support hardware DEP blah blah blah.)

Click the button on the bottom labeled "Add". A box will come up labeled Open. Click that. It will probably default to showing a view of files under your profile name. At the top, where it says "Look in:" click the down arrow next to whatever folder name is inside the box. Browse to and select "vtf.exe". Double click that. You should now see that it is added to the DEP window as an exception. Click Apply on the bottom of the Performance Options box. Close all the System Properties Windows.

Reboot

Check if that fixes it. If not - just set the option back how it was and reboot.

Secondly - try running without antivirus or antispyware type software running - they might be conflicting or blocking it (incorrectly).

Yesterday I posted (see original post below) about not being able to run "Video to Flash's" main application (VTF.exe).

The other exe files (flvplayer.exe & SAFlashPlayer.exe) run fine.

I have reinstalled twice & verified that I have the correct permissions in my registry.

I am able to view .swf & .flv on the internet and can access Flash files with other programs.

I am at a loss, and hope that someone will post a workable solution.

As much as I want the problem solved so I can use the program, I want it more because of all the time I have put into trying to get it to work. It leaves a bad feeling when a piece of software beats you!

Thanks.

                                ORIGINAL POST:

[I am having a problem getting todays offering, “Wondershare Video to Flash Encoder” to work.

I downloaded it, activation went fine, installed it without any problem.

The problem is that the main program “VTF.exe” will not open\run.

The program comes with 3 applications:
_VTF.exe
_flvplayer.exe
_SAFlashPlayer.exe

The two player apps work fine, I am assuming that VTF.exe is the main program, but clicking on the shortcut or directly from the programs folder produces nothing. Nothing opens & nothing loads.

I would sure like to use this application, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for the help.]

Powerbullet is a small, simple program for creating presentations in the Flash™ format. You should have minimal startup time in getting your first presentation together if you're familiar with using a basic word processor.

Most commonly-used operations are available with a button click or two, and there are handy keyboard shortcuts for most operations. For instance, using the up and down arrow keys - in conjunction with the Control and Shift key - dynamically increases or decreases the font size, giving you instant feedback.

Create standard presentations easily or customize
You can easily create presentations using drag and drop, or you can hand tune the HTML data which describes the Powerbullet Pages and create your own animation sequences.
Unusual fonts
Your text is converted to Flash format, so unusual fonts can be displayed on any machine.
Online or Offline Presentations
Your presentation will be exported both as Flash (embedded in HTML) and as an executable file (.exe), so you can use it for the web or run it as a Microsoft® Powerpoint™-like presentation on any Windows® PC (without requiring any special software to be installed).
Presentations for every purpose
Powerbullet Presenter is specifically designed for creating multi-page presentations that are commonly used in electronic sales brochures and catalogues, splash screens, slideshows and educational projects for both teachers and students.

Link with other software free also.

http://powerbullet.com/info.php

Like screensavers, I think wallpapers are a very personal preference. To give away what is essentially a picture as a giveaway of the day, I think would not prove very popular.

Be warned - www.wallpapers.com is affiliated with freeze.com - the site spams to emails it receives, and the free animated wallpapers are loaded with spyware and popup advertisements.

No I don't want to see this on GOTD.
