I have just come across Wondershare DVD Ripper Platinum. It looks exactly the same as Aimersoft DVD and Daniusoft DVD Ripper. Are all these titles made by the same company, or is it such a good program that many companies are willing to put their name to it?

OK,OK, I know a lot of you are sick of the converters, but as a newbie, id like to know if GAOTD has ever given away such a program. I wish to convert DVD to one WMV file. I have used DVDFAB and it constantly crashes, Videora, its slow and decides when and when not to work. SUPER, seems to have an issue copying large VOB files, and the new APLUS Video Converter, recently given away, doesn't want to do it either. Im considering purchasing Aimersoft DVD, as it seems to be the best converter from the entire list, but before i do, i would just like to know if anyone has come across anything either on GAOTD or anywhere else that they have used to convert DVD to WMV without having to pull their hair out due to technical difficulties. A link would be appreciated.

Oh I don't know RunesageMagik? I do recall it being in Windows ME and 2000. And you had to turn that feature off (I forgot how it was done) and delete them through safe mode (or BartPE, Linux CD, etc.). AnVir Task Manager (a GAOTD a few days ago) probably would have had a bandaid effect if you used that one. As it can kill anything that starts up automatically. Well maybe not DLLs come to think about it.

Bill, I have BartPE (part of another appl as I recall) but have never used it. Will try to go through Safe Mode's back door later tonite and maybe even venture to try Bart. Thanks!

I'm guessing XP doesn't retain a full copy of DLLs, else why would it have instructed me to install the Installation CD to get to them during a recent diagnostic? If it does, I kinda doubt it would reinstall the Go2Assist dll since I've purged every other file and trace of G2A from my disk, but I've only a passing familiarity with DLLs and WinXP idiosyncrasies so anything's possible!

RunesageMagik, try getting rid of g2awinlogon.dll by:

1) Safe mode

2) BartPE (free) http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

3) One of Linux bootable CD/DVD

Now this is something to think about and I forgot how it works. But Windows ME, 2000, and XP (and probably Vista) I believe keeps a copy of dlls and if one gets deleted, on a reboot I think it magically pulls a backup copy out. If you run into this, someone (maybe me) will tell you how to get around it.

Once the expiration period has expired (which for Plato was 8 DECEMBER) you are totally and most assuredly out of luck. One can only speculate that the process of registering did not successfully complete, meaning Plato worked for the first day (or first time out of 3) simply because it is set up to do that. Perhaps someday GAOTD will come up with a registration process that includes a better/simpler registration with verification process that confirms successful registration. (I mean a better way than the pop up GAOTD screen saying "Congratulations" or the obvious Help/About notice of registration since that doesn't seem to come with an ironclad guarantee for all who've tried. I have no idea what such a process would entail.)

Fortunately, Plato still works for me although IMHO, leaves a lot to be desired. It allows you some options for copying, but fails to warn you until AFTER you've waited for the data to be uploaded from the original DVD to your temp drive that "OOPS, you've chosen too much to put on the new DVD." (don't know how that could be, but it offers no option other than to recopy less)

Plato states right on the front display that it's registered to GAOTD and since we're past the deadline, guess I'll use it until I'm forced to upgrade to whatever mess Gates plans to inflict on us. Good thing, because a Dell tech just deleted my Sonic burner using that invasive GO2Assist applet as I sat and watched in disbelief, after JUST telling him that my Dell-provided copy of the WinXP Home reinstallation disk was not working. "Oh, that's okay, we can get it back or I can send you a copy."... NOT!

Which begs the question: Anybody know how to purge Go2Assist? Dell techs have had to use it twice. Each time I've tried Add/Remove, Revo Uninstaller, manual tinkering in Registry, and still the Citrix file called g2awinlogon.dll remains behind, thumbing its nose at me. The ever popular brute force method of hitting DELETE just spits back an "access denied".

I too, tried to start Plato DVD today and received the same "I need to register" message and that it is now only good for 3 tries. I downloaded and ran it successfully the day it installed, and finally had time to play with it today and boom!... it is only a trial version now.

I had similar issues crop up with Abyss media give aways.. (audio converter plus, wma mp3 recorder pro) as well as Ultra video converter from Aone s/w. Each of those are all no longer fuctional and require registering again.

Because of what happenned to the Abyss s/w, I actaully take a few extra steps with every new GOTD download by going to the "help" menu, and choose "about" and make sure the s/w shows proper registeation. I also quickly check to make sure the s/w is functional. Once verified, I then do not go into it until I have the time to fully mess around and check out the s/w and make sure it does what it says and I can use it. This may not be until a few days/week later. I consistently d/l and see these software, after activation and registeration, showing the copy is indeeed registered. it always uses the GiveAwayofThe Day in the username field for registration.

What is going on.. am I wasting times not to mention numerous installs that no longer work and will subsequently have to be removed, only to leave dll files and screw up my system? I trusted GOTD to provide registered copies that stay registered... now... what to do with this trial version of plato dvd that is taking up useless space on my hard drive... any suggestions???
thanks, Toetag

Firstly I wouldn't trust the site you linked to as a "professional software review site" - it looks more like one of the many vendors who is an affiliate with everyone and tries to sell anything and everything by hiding behind some attempt of trying to appear impartial - and sell you "the best product".

If you are having problems with a wondershare product - I would recommend you deal directly with http://www.wondershare.com/

I downloaded Plato DVD Copy, installed it and registered it without any problem.

When I first tried to use Plato DVD Copy it recognized the DVD that I put in the source DVD-ROM drive. It would not recognize my DVD Burning Drive. I re-booted my computer and during the boot stage I got a "Found New Hardware" message. The new hardware was identified as PTCouffin Device. Apparently for Plato DVD Copy to be installed the driver Patin-Couffin must be present. I tried to find a driver on the Internet. Nothing That I found worked.

Patin-Couffin is identified as a VSO driver. I have tried three different generations of what I though might help and I have gotten no where. Please help. I would like to try the Plato DVD Copy program. I have two CD that were dropped on a rough cement floor and both have been scratched. It seams that they are getting to be in a little worse condition as I continue to play them.

I had no problem downloading or registering, but can't seem to get it to burn a copy after having downloaded it to my hard drive on my laptop despite having printed out and followed (I thought) their directions. Anyone care to help here?

Sorry, if the "code" was stored somewhere on your computer - Plato DVD Copy would be able to find it.

If the program is activated correctly, it displays "Licensed to:Giveawayoftheday" on the main screen.

But Requesting or Posting Activation/Registration Keys is against Forum/Site Rules. I'm not allowed to give out registration keys.

I'll do some testing myself and see if the same happens to me.

Same here. Installed fine and registered with code, program started and I used it once, then closed it. Just started up again and now it's asking for registration code again, says it's limited to three uses. Any ideas, or anyone else in similar position? Thanks!

Hello,
Sharon, I found a converter that might work for you at Afterdawn.com. It is the last free version of VSO DivXtoDVD, it is now called VSO Convert XtoDVD, for $39.99 US and they do have a demo.
Afterdawn even has a link to a guide on how to use the program on the same page. If you have problems using this or any other related software they also have a excellent forum. It can be found at: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm
After instillation, VSO DivXtoDVD, dose ask if you want to update, if you do, it will take you to their home site and ask you to purchase the new version, that is the only nags I found. Let me know if the program works for you.
Happy recording,
Barry

Thanks GAOTD! I finally can convert my movies using Apollo DivX to DVD Converter. I find that about 1/3 of the time I get an error message saying that it is unable to complete the conversion. It also takes on average 4-5 hours to complete each time. Do you have a program for us that is more effecient? I would seriously appreciate it.
