Hymn works for linux if you need to convert m4p files. It is free. Just google it. Maybe you can also rip a CD first, then rip it to MP3.
If you are a Windows uers, you need not CD burner at all. Just directly convert iTunes protected music following the guide http://www.m4ptomp3.net/

Which software can convert iTunes videos m4v to unprotected formats on Mac??

There's a cmd-line opensource codec-pak I've used for several years http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/ffmpeg/ that's a gem. No install, just unzip to the directory used by the command box. Then type: ffmpeg -i name of file.ext name of file.new ext and Enter. The executable codec-pak does all the work. It converts audio/video, extracts audio, converts .flv's to mp4's, mpeg's. It'll even convert mp3's to .wav's or ogg, flac, etc.
Here's my post from another forum:
i've tried 'video converter' and some others with limited success. If you need to edit videos, try http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php?name=Dow...tails&lid=1
if it's enough for you to convert videos, get http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/ffmpeg/ and uncompress the latest ffmpeg compilation for windows (or whatever system you have).
next open my computer and left-click drive "C" if you're using windows. Click "Documents and settings", and then click "____ owner" or "administrator" (you probably want "____owner"). Next copy the ffmpeg file into this directory.
open a command box (start >run >type cmd.exe >enter), and type dir. Enter. You should now view a list of the directory contents, including ffmpeg.exe. If not, try again until you find ffmpeg.exe in the command directory window.
To convert a file, open a command box, and type: ffmpeg -i filename.flv filename.mp4
Press Enter. The file will be converted using the ffmpeg codecs and will appear in the directory as (in this example) an .flv file converted to an mpeg-4 (quicktime) movie.
I have used this with good success for several months. If you have trouble with a format, try converting to something to else and then into the format you originally wanted.
I'll check back, in case you have trouble following my explanation.

I have just come across Wondershare DVD Ripper Platinum. It looks exactly the same as Aimersoft DVD and Daniusoft DVD Ripper. Are all these titles made by the same company, or is it such a good program that many companies are willing to put their name to it?

OK,OK, I know a lot of you are sick of the converters, but as a newbie, id like to know if GAOTD has ever given away such a program. I wish to convert DVD to one WMV file. I have used DVDFAB and it constantly crashes, Videora, its slow and decides when and when not to work. SUPER, seems to have an issue copying large VOB files, and the new APLUS Video Converter, recently given away, doesn't want to do it either. Im considering purchasing Aimersoft DVD, as it seems to be the best converter from the entire list, but before i do, i would just like to know if anyone has come across anything either on GAOTD or anywhere else that they have used to convert DVD to WMV without having to pull their hair out due to technical difficulties. A link would be appreciated.

Super (http://www.erightsoft.info/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe) converts ANY format into ANY other format, video or audio. It also supports Zune. It has settings that no other program can match, especially not freeware alternatives. And, yes, Super is absolutely free. Their slogan is "Super does for free what other encoders can't do for money." And they are right!

Thanks givv 1, I appreciate your recommendations. Personally I'll buy any software product that has been given away here nor from recommendations like yours if I find it really useful, or a pleasure to use such programs like Wirechanger that was given away away about a year ago.

I love the concept of free software, but I largly only use give aways for evaluation. Granted I have lots of applications (and more games) that are still on my computer from the giveaway project, but most will eventually be deleted simply because they are of no use to me. Apart from applications such as Starburn v10, which I cannot justify buying as I think the price of nearly $500 is grossly over inflated (plus I couldn't afford such a price - there are much cheaper DVD authoring tools - though not as multifuntional as Starburn), most I have purchased (if only to get the updates) but as some say above, if everything was free, the quality of software would take a nose dive.

With respect to audio converter software, I recently got Acoustica, (not a giveaway) and have found it better than the Joyce audio converter (a giveaway early last year), which I was on the verge of buying, but have found Acoustica more user friendly.

Acoustica Audio Converter:

This user friendly audio converter will convert MP3, WAV, WMA, CDA & OGG files with just a right click! It seamlessly integrates into Windows and is always accessible without having to bring up a clunky, screen-hogging interface. It has a high quality 32 bit converter engine that makes pro quality conversions to and from the most common audio formats. An integrated audio CD ripper is also included! Just right click on a CD track and rip or convert it to WAV, MP3, OGG or WMA file! Professionals will find this tool indispensable. Home hobbyists will find Audio Converter Pro a very handy addition to their arsenal of audio tools.

http://www.acoustica.com/audio-converter/

heh, an AAMRAM (or is it AMRAAM? this spell check leaves a lot to be desired) is a heavy-duty air-to-air missile, generally used to peel apart multiton aircraft. A modern variant on using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. Major overkill.

I am writing a book using MS Word (2003) which is subdivided into a master document and many subdocuments. The master document is strictly as a Table Of Contents with hyperlinks to subdocuments (subdocuments link back to the master). I do not use Word’s headings and styles for hyperlink, I use bookmarks that are hyperlinked to them. This allows me to more easily manage styles.

Objective: Convert to PDF and Html
Converting all to PDF & Html format all the while retaining their initial structure (the master TOC pointing to subdocuments and the subdocuments linking back to the master TOC.

Structure:
I make extensive use of hyperlinks as:
(1) All bookmarks have a hyperlink.
(2) The master TOC has but hyperlinks to the sub-documents.
(3) Hyperlinks in my endnotes to the web.
(4) Hyperlinks within the document – linking an item to another within the document.
(4) Links to websites.

Also use word art, font effects (not text effects), various fonts (True Type), tables (no border displayed), digital photos (jpeg), headers and footers. However I DO NOT use Word's “Headings and Style” feature that I consider has too many constraints.

I guess by now you get the idea – lots to consider.

Converting to PDF & Html
Will strictly cover PDF at this time as the conversion to Html is a whole new ball game.

I downloaded at least a dozen converters that state they easily convert Word to PDF & Html (plus numerous other features such as document assembly, security, converting into other formats such as TIFF, jpeg, etc., etc.).

Problems
All have one key problem. They define the use of hyperlinks by using Word’s “Heading and Styles” construct. In addition, as I will be linking to a PDF subdocument I must insure that my hyperlinks carry the “pdf” and not the “doc” file extension (not a major problem as I change it at the time I create the hyperlink).

I create my own header and footers – if I select a watermark it will display over my footer and you cannot read the footer or the watermark. Finally, they ignore “font effect” – such as “engrave” in my footer (excellent result in Word). If I use a hyperlink attached to an image (jpeg format) it will ignore the hyperlink.
Numerous other problems exist but I can usually find an alternative, the watermark feature is an example.

However, the key problem is hyper linking. Some work some do not but not one software package can insure that all hyperlinks in a document remain at the time the PDF and Html produced.

Thanks to all who will take time to read and makes suggestions.

If you know of a freeware or shareware solution it would be great.

Hello,
Sharon, I found a converter that might work for you at Afterdawn.com. It is the last free version of VSO DivXtoDVD, it is now called VSO Convert XtoDVD, for $39.99 US and they do have a demo.
Afterdawn even has a link to a guide on how to use the program on the same page. If you have problems using this or any other related software they also have a excellent forum. It can be found at: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm
After instillation, VSO DivXtoDVD, dose ask if you want to update, if you do, it will take you to their home site and ask you to purchase the new version, that is the only nags I found. Let me know if the program works for you.
Happy recording,
Barry

Thanks GAOTD! I finally can convert my movies using Apollo DivX to DVD Converter. I find that about 1/3 of the time I get an error message saying that it is unable to complete the conversion. It also takes on average 4-5 hours to complete each time. Do you have a program for us that is more effecient? I would seriously appreciate it.

I downloaded the Agogo DVD Ripper app on time last Monday night
about 10 minutes before it expired, installed it -

-THEN while trying to play the DVD in it - it always CLOSED on me
and asked if I wanted to SEND ERROR to Microsoft!

I DID save the app...but then later realized that you can ONLY reinstall apps
within the time period with the REG CODE

I have 'XP Pro Media Center Ed 2002'....Intel T2050 at 1.60 Ghz

Can anybody explain WHY this happened?....
I'd LIKE to get it back again...thanks!

Say, Nancy, if you're still looking for a converter, that also lets you make your own menus and such, you might have a look at Avi2Dvd 0.4.5b at:

http://www.yown.net/news.php?readmore=514

Avi2Dvd is an All In One tool in order to convert with just few clicks an Avi/Ogm/Mkv/Wmv/Dvd to Dvd/Svcd/Vcd. Supports multiple audiostreams and up to three textual external subtitles. From the version 0.3.4 and later it can support DV-AVI videos, so it can handle captured avi's from digital videocameras. Avi2dvd can also produce semi professional dvd menus with chapter/audio/subtitles buttons with extreme facility ! This utility is 100% freeware and uses only freeware software.
