Trying to download Foxtab PDF Converter.

Every time I hit the Finish button, I get the following error message: "Printer installation error - 1601 (0)".

I've searched the internet with Google and found a few other people have encountered the error, but no solutions. I turned off ZoneAlarm and MalwareBytes, but same result.

I ran the download with the Advanced option to avoid Bing and (if I remember correctly) Chrome, as well as the Shopping coupons etc. I trust this didn't make a difference.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions. I have some very conversion resistant PDF files I need to convert.

I thank you for your help in advance. I very much appreciate it.

After a long week I spent today getting routine med tests, so just got a look at the Aiseesoft Total Media Converter a couple/few hours ago -- with apologies then for the lateness here's the basics on it, as tested in win7 64, as well as XP Pro, win732, & win8 32 dev preview VMs.

-----------

Aiseesoft Total Media Converter is very similar to better video converters that have been offered on GOTD. Installation is low impact, & it runs on XP, win7 32 & 64 bit, & the win8 dev preview. It's fast, but the quality of re-sized video was a bit uneven, & ATI hardware acceleration not only didn't work with an AMD/ATI 6870 graphics card, but turning it on slowed things down considerably. Based on tests I'd recommend it if 1) you didn't have an alternative, or 2) you were working with HD rather than DVD video. With these converters that use ffmpeg [ffmpeg.org], newer is usually better if/when they include newer versions of ffmpeg, which itself is under continual development, so there is reason to try newer video converters out when you've already picked one up from GOTD in the past.

Testing 5 minutes of DVD mpeg2 video, converting to 855x480 AVC video [DroidX], with ATI assist off it took 50 seconds, with up to 99% CPU, up to 1% GPU, & a final file size of 55 MB -- with ATI assist on it took ~5 minutes, used 12-18% CPU, up to 3% GPU, & the final file was 51 MB. Testing 5 minutes of HD video [1080p AVC in a MKV container], converting to 720p AVC with ATI assist off took 4 min. 4 sec. using up to 99% CPU [no measurable GPU], with a final file size of 295 MB -- with ATI assist on it took 5 minutes, used ~33% CPU [no measurable GPU], with a final files size of 253 MB. Both HD renders looked great -- DVD renders had trouble with horisontal edges/lines that was especially noticable in scenes with panning or zooming. While the 720p AVC video produced looked very good, it did not pass Blu-Ray compliance testing, so some Blu-Ray authoring apps will insist on re-encoding, & as-is it may or may not play on your Blu-Ray player.

I didn't test Aiseesoft Total Media Converter with DVDs that had DRM, but it will open DVDs as well as video files. As with most all of these converters there's no way to import separate video & audio tracks -- It's not a deal breaker but it does mean that if you have separate tracks your'll have to combine [mux] them elsewhere. Editing tools let you add watermarks, trim video length, adjust brightness etc., & crop. [Note that unless you shot the video yourself, there should be little cause to fool with things like brightness -- e.g. if a DVD looks too dark it's probably your system &/or software -- & usually the only time you want to crop is when you'll play the results on a PC.]

Installation adds the "Aiseesoft Studio" program folder with 92 files, 8 folders, & ~63 MB -- running it through the PortableApps.com App Compactor the same folders has 92 files, 8 folders, ~36 MB [Note that you should keep a copy of the original folder & test thoroughly after compacting should you choose to use it]. A folder gets added to the User MyDocuments folder, with a 2nd folder under All Users Application Data [XP] or ProgramData [win7/8], & a 3rd folder added to User\ Local Settings\ Application Data [XP] or User\ AppData\ Local [win7/8]. The registry gets an uninstall key, one key for the app, & 1 empty CLSID key.

need to convert some records to MP3

I'm not sure how far you want to go with this, e.g. how much time, effort, & $ you want to spend... maybe you can take something from this that you can use?

To play the records 1st step of course is the turntable, where more mechanical aspects [tonearm, turntable drive mechanism etc.] matter. The cartridge matters too, but you may be able to save some money if this is a one-off by not worrying about how long the cartridge will last. I'm skeptical you'd find much quality in or with the usual USB turntable affairs for converting a record collection, or all in one units for that matter, & would suggest a regular turntable for home audio or perhaps one of the DJ models.

Optional but I think worth it if you had a home audio turntable, a small mixer can take the signal from the turntable, amplifying it as necessary, & provide the output signal to your PC/laptop. I think many DJ turntables might be designed to work with your PC/laptop already. Using the mixer you could make sure the signal was as high or loud as possible without overwhelming the PC/laptop audio electronics [e.g. clipping], allow you to adjust bass/treble &/or provide an equalizer, might have added filtering &/or FX, & would have a separate jack(s) for headphone monitoring of the signal going into your PC/laptop.

Alternatively you can always mic your stereo speakers -- using a mic to record what comes out of the speakers has been around a long time. You'd still have to have the turntable, but maybe you'd have use for the microphones when this project was over?

For the actual recording, if you wanted the least amount of noise your best bet might be an external recorder -- the electronics inside a PC add interference noise whether you're using the PC's on-board audio chipset, a sound card, or some USB audio. Otherwise look up the specs of how much noise whatever hardware will introduce & compare -- when it comes to digitizing the analog signal you probably won't find a whole lot of difference, so it's more about how much noise brand X will add vs. brand Y. You may well find that on-board chipset is as good as many add-ons, & probably better than some.

When you're recording line-in [the mono or stereo signal] the recording software itself isn't going to really effect the recording quality -- all it's doing is taking the ones & zeros your audio hardware gives it & writing that to a file. Higher end stuff lets you add FX on-the-fly, maybe lets you record more than 2 channels, may play back an existing track(s) while it records & so on. If your hardware supports higher bit depth & sampling rates you may need better software to use them, but that's more an oversight on the part of any developers who've left that out, & when the final goal is MP3s, probably irrelevant anyway.

You will probably want to record to .wav using your hardware's internal sampling rate [look it up but probably 48 rather than 44.1], then use a noise filter to try & get rid of most of the noise associated with vinyl records. Optionally you might want to do other processing, e.g. normalize, then convert that to MP3. If your MP3s are going to be 44.1 & you recorded at 48, look for software that can use dithering for that resample step. Audacity or Wavosaur should do what you need, but places like Musiciansfriend.com often have home versions of bigger name audio apps on sale -- if you can get the job done during the 30 trial check out Sony's Sound Forge.

Hello.
Guys, please try to put me out of my misery.
Several Giveaways ago a software developer offered to support as much as he could any requests in ways to convert user databases (built over the years) into its own tool format.
The problem is:
-I need such support as I am trying to port my huge (HUGE, I mean) CD collection cataloged as "Offline CD Browser" database into InsideCAT 4 format, preserving all date stamps.
-(don't laugh!) ...and I can't recall for sure if said developer was the developer of a catalog tool, PIM, note-taker... or what! (I told you - don't laugh!)
So please, if you know Delphi 6 (iCAT language) and is up to help (I'm already in conversations with another GREATgaotd regular! ^^), please contact me. And if you have a clue on which tool is that, SEND ME A TEXT MESSAGE ASAP 'CAUSE I'M ABOUT TO GO NUTZO!!! lol
Thank you.

If possible please download ONLY from the developer's site. It should be the latest version and there you'll mostly find change-log and bug-fixes.

I'm not firm in converting and never used FormatFactory, so I can't give any recommendation.

There is an advice from the dev:

Attention : If you fail to run FormatFactory , Please download this patch to fix your system runtime. vcredist_x86.exe

This is the developer's site with the original download link and that patch:

http://www.formatoz.com/index.html

---EDIT---
Oooops - now I understand what JKEngineer means:
When you click on the "Main Site Download" on the formatoz web site, you are redirected to brothersoft (an absolute NO-NO for me).
Clicking on "Local Site Download" redirects you to "http://www.pcfreetime.com/download.html" - it loads very sloooooowly and the download will take nearly 1.30 hours! on my fast dsl line.
Under About I found

Welcome to spread FormatFactory without any modification.

Let's hope that's correct.

---2nd EDIT---
UniExtract found these "plugins" in FFSetup230.exe : askChecker + askToolbar + QuickStores + sobar

I think Format Factory will do this for you. It won't do the download, but it will convert the files. It is free, so you won't need a purchase order.
I have an older version installed on one machine and have used it fairly happily. I just downloaded a newer version for another machine yesterday and found that it asks to install lots of toolbars and similar, all of which I denied. Nevertheless, the program interface now includes a brothersoft.com link and an ebay tool link in its header.

In downloading, I went to their main download link on brothersoft and got major warnings about the site from Norton. I ended up downloading from another site.

A point of confusion: my existing version has been popping up an offer to upgrade to v 1.85. The version on their main site is 2.3 and the one I found avoiding brothersoft is 2.2. Also, their older version and google point to formatoz.com while the newer version points elsewhere, but seems to be the same actual website.

I have seen others comment positively on the program, including in this site.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried VDW, but I couldn't get it to work correctly on my system. The conversion of an asx file into a mp4 yielded a file with no audio. Downloading from YouTube didn't work either - the file was never written to disk. Guess I'll just have to keep looking.

I recently cleaned my system of all malware and other nasty stuff. I've got McAfee installed, along with MalWareBytes and WinPatrol. I downloaded and installed the Web Video Player by Socusoft and the very next day, on boot-up, McAfee said it had caught and deleted a trojan. Coincidence? Possibly.

Before the virus warning, I tried the program and liked the ease of use. I mentioned it to my boss, who told me to buy 20 copies. Part of the process is making a purchase order and I needed the company address for that. Not shown on their website. Nor is the phone number. I sent them a request for that info, and they responded they are located in Shenzen City, China. When I tell my boss today about the trojan and the company location, I'm sure he'll say we can't buy it.

So, the question is, any suggestions for similar software by a different company?

Thanks,

Mr. Wizard

most of these converters get about a 3 to 1 conversion rate which is really slow. Format Factory does it a little faster it uses avi synth, ffmeg, the standard free stuff and gets a little abit better than that. 3.5 to 1

this mean 2hours of movie equals 1 hour of conversion. so really a 2 hour movie is what about 30 to 45 minutes. my times are a little off, but you get the point.
I'm not a math genius.

there are some quicker free ones like staxrip or avi recomp and there are plug ins to speed them up, make the pictures sharper nicer, cleaner.

I have hard time with stax rip, but use the crude out of the other, but it still takes 20 minutes regardless of what plug in you use.

NOW There is a speed demon out there and will convert a whole movie in minutes.
It is called Badaboom. It uses gpu, by using a program called cuda. It will the wave of the future. I guarantee it.

You can get info here, there site is vague.
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_badaboom_description.html
http://www.badaboomit.com/
The trials though are cool though, they are not time based. They are used based, so they last for like 20 tries and then its gone. Oh and bad conversions count , so pay attention and read what works and what don't.
Here's a link if anyone wants to try or you can click the badaboom site link trial, same one.

For Being Called "Fast Video Converter" it sure is slow. I used the same file with the same video converting parameters in both Fast Video Converter and Format Factory and the result was, in time, Format Factory - 1 min 40 seconds Fast Video Converter - 3 minutes 30 seconds.

This makes sense why there are so many of these converters now. They just do something similar to this and your in business. Iobit is fortunate cause name recognition will sell for them.
They are liable to make a ton off this when this promotion ends and people start buying it. I just can't see this going off without an update though and I have been waiting for that from Winx, since their promotion was over.

They have flawed marketing strategy it is good, but it needs work, like selling an updated version once the promotion is over that is faster and does more.

Well guys I found out about this giveaway through Iobit.

Not much of a surprise there Chip! did a bit of whois and link chasing.

	dvdfast
Name Server: NSA.IOBITLIVE.COM

somehow (see end of message) I think they became an affiliate of winxdvd...
=============
now, winxdvd lists mastersoft as a partner..

so- again, no surprise:

mastersoft
Domain Name: ALLDJ.COM
Registrar: ENOM, INC.
Name Server: DNS4.NAME-SERVICES.COM
Name Server: DNS5.NAME-SERVICES.COM

but then, don't get out the DMCA spud-spitter just yet, look at WinXDVD's affiliate page and all is revealed:

Become an affiliate

Join our Affiliate Program and start earning up to 85% commissions through your website!
~
Our default sales commission is 60%, but you can get more commission easily!
* If you can create a link back to us which page's PR >= 4, we will increase 10% commission for you.
* If you can sell more than 60 copies/month, we will increase 10% commission for you.
* If you can sell more than 100 copies/month, we will increase 15% commission for you.

Enjoy these benefits:
1. At least 60% commissons for every sale of Digiarty products.
2. A wide range of creative banners and text.
3. Professional support for your web site.
~
and down at the bottom of the page, the terms:

Terms & Conditions
* Affiliates interested in paid search activities, shall contact us for approval into the program.
* Affiliates shall not bid on trademarked terms without consent of WinX, Digiarty Software, Inc. ect.
* Affiliates shall not advertise any coupon or discount without the authorization of Digiarty Software, Inc.
==> * Affiliates should not submit our products to other websites by using the same name of our products.
* All right is reserved by Digiarty Software, Inc.

so IOBit is just getting into the action using an existing advertising channel, advanced systemcare- business as usual.

60% [minimum! I always knew I was in the wrong racket!] of $30 leaves a lotta wiggle room to rake in the loot. iobit sells at $25, gets at least $13 for every sale after the giveaway loss-leader gets name recognition and some recommendations. Which might not cost them much at all, if they have a deal set up with WinXDVD...

who I gather are planning an update soon, which of course the gobble-day edition probably won't upgrade to free.

Feels a lot like chasing down that "my audio studio" and finding the shell game Audio Editor Deluxe was (is still?) playing, trying to find how to sell more of the same thing rebranded or with a shell for people that don't want to read the manual. (I'm rather amazed that one didn't stick around longer)

Ha- cross-typing strikes again Txnnok! different methods, similar result. IOBit did the setup, not digiarty. (sure sounds like sherlock holmes' nemesis, doesn't it?)

Got some news from Digiarty. The Converter is not a rip off. Here is a copy of the email it is short and I am going to leave the guys name. I don't know how public or official they want to make it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For "Fast Video Converter PRO" issue, iobit is just one of our OEMs. Thanks very much for your information.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of further assistance.

http://www.winxdvd.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just found this out. I have to many thoughts flying around my head as typing. I had come back and erase a lot conspiracy speculation about companies, branches, divisions,etc..., You get the point.

The one clear thought I do have that isnt related to that stuff, is it possible they Digiarty wanted to see if how well this converter would sell under a different name,

They create a "mach" co.(hope that spelled right), change up the product a little and sell it under a promotor.
--------------

I think their biggest problem lies in a few things. No mkv, no hd, and few other advanced features q-pell, gmc, bvop encoding, trell quantization.

My point is these are features you can get on many other converters for the same money.
Now that I a more aware I wouldnt buy Winx, I would buy something with more advanced features it matters. Thankfully I only paid 7.50 for it. The ripper was was the best purchase for that price to.

I'm gonna post a good converter in about 5 minutes that you can for free that does everything and then some.did I say for free, oh yea for free, lol

Well guys I found out about this giveaway through Iobit. They have advertised this giveaway in their "Advanced SystemCare." Iobit seems to be pretty trusted and I doubt they would advertise something that wasn't legit.

P.S And yes the serial provided by the site is universal and the same for everybody. But please do not post it here. The point of the giveaway is for people to submit what they are thankful for so they can compile a list. And I don't think they want the serial getting out for people to use after the giveaway is over.

Seems like a copy of someone else software like Txnnok said!

Based on the Company Awards they list on their web page (BTW, they are NOT clickable), I searched for them on the different sites mentioned and found zero/zilch about it.

It looks fishy to me!

And they are not called http://www.dvdfast.net for nothing, look at their copyright at the bottom of the page, it states:
