It has been said, repeatedly, what/what not to post on the different web sites, especially the social networking sites, and public forums/MBs. The more I read about Facebook, the less I put on my page, and the more I batten down the security hatches. Also, though, I don't discuss anything political online.

http://epic.org/2010/05/new-facebook-privacy-complaint.html

New Facebook Privacy Complaint Filed with Trade Commission
Today, EPIC and 14 privacy and consumer protection organizations filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, charging that Facebook has engaged in unfair and deceptive trade practices in violation of consumer protection law.

http://epic.org/privacy/facebook/

What’s the difference between Facebook’s revised privacy settings and the old ones?

Under the revised privacy policy, Facebook now treats the following categories of personal data as “publicly available

information:”

• users’ names,• profile photos,• lists of friends,• pages they are fans of,

• gender,• geographic regions, and• networks to which they belong.

By default, Facebook discloses “publicly available information” to search engines, to Internet users whether or not they use Facebook, and others. According to Facebook, such information can be accessed by “every application and website, including those you have not connected with . . . .”

I thought that Facebook’s had a privacy policy… why doesn’t this protect users?

Facebook’s privacy policy doesn’t actually protect users, it misleads users into believing that their information is safe, while the site actually discloses information to third-party application developers and the public. Facebooks’ revised privacy policy mandates the sharing of large amounts of personal information, whether or not users what to share that information.

What’s so bad about friends lists being deemed “publicly available information?”
Dozens of American Facebook users, who posted political messages critical of Iran, have reported that Iranian authorities subsequently questioned and detained their relatives. According to the Wall Street Journal, one Iranian-American graduate student received a threatening email that read, “we know your home address in Los Angeles,” and directed the user to “stop spreading lies about Iran on Facebook.” Another U.S. Facebook user who criticized Iran on Facebook stated that security agents in Tehran located and arrested his father as a result of the postings. One Facebook user who traveled to Iran said that security officials asked him whether he owned a Facebook account, and to verify his answer, they performed a Google search for his name, which revealed his Facebook page. His passport was subsequently confiscated for one month, pending interrogation.

Seriously, though, 90% of the games on this site are basic clones of Bejeweled. Not a scrap of originality, save for the graphics, which aren't all that good anyway. We need more stuff like shoot-em-ups(shmups, if you prefer), platformers(or run-n-guns), or flight simulators(with army helos! Yeah!). GGOTD needs to kick its habit of offering nice-looking, bland Alawar match-3s and get back to what gaming was originally about - blowing stuff up!

(The very first video game, by the way, was about blowing stuff up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacewar%21)

Yea.. I kinda agree with the both of you Beryl and Bill. I've always got my software activated. Like Bill "implied", reading the help file helps alot when it not just a click on the activate file. But when it's not just a click... or copy/paste a key, I know ppl are going to have problems activating.

The WORST one so far was the Icon Constructor a few days ago. Not that I couldn't figure it out, but I had to actually create the folder the instructions told me to deposit the key file in. The folder wasn't hidden and I have my computer configured to see ALL files and paths. Once I manually created the folder in the path the instructions were talking about, I put the key file there... and I was good to go. Still others just opened the .ic file with some text program (notepad) and copied the key into the registration when prompted when they opened the program.

It would be nice to have a "clear cut" repeatable way to activate, but with different developers, you'd have to get them all on the same page. And even though there are those that complain of registration, there are tons that didn't have a problem and were able to figure it out just fine. Usually if you follow the comment section... Someone has posted a way to activate that may help those that are having problems.

I've installed numerous programs from here. The others I installed were not in your list and did not use that activation process.

There are multiple activation schema's. Most "paste in" activation keys contain one or two lines, not 15.

There are many levels of users. I've used Mainframe's since the late 60's, Personal Computers since CPM (before DOS) at IBM in the 70's Online BBS's from the mid '1980's and most OS's up through now including work for Military Special Operations Recon.

Simplicity is paramount for first time or occasional web-site visitors. Consistency and clarity is important for ongoing visitors.

Some people program all day. They count from 0. The rest of the world starts at 1.

A few lines of clear instruction is all that should be necessary not a "lot of reading."

Some Systems Integrators (such as myself) have been supporting ALL LEVELS of users for over 20 years.

It appears you assume everyone has the identical approach and experiences you've had -- and reacts the same way.

You can be helpful with people "just like you" -- but perceive things very narrowly.

That doesn't matter much here, because - In this land of the blind, as a one eyed man, you can be a Pilot. <wink to you too>.

I thought the directions were very clear. And they had other software that activated the same way. Some of those includes the following:

CuteReminder
Direct Audio Converter and CD Ripper - DAC
DiskInternalsCDDVDRecovery
DiskInternalsUneraser
novaPDFLite
OutlookExpressBackup
SaveFlash
StickyPassword
WebStreamRecorderPro

I think a lot of complainers are doing a lot of clicking without a lot of reading. ;)

The activation would not work. I've activated at least 5 programs from here with NO problem.

Stickypasswords wanted something different. By the time I figured out where to get it. It wouldn't take. Said invalid and promotion over.

Please contact me to help me. I'd like to get the free copy to try beyone 30 days. Will giveawayoftheday stand behind unclear instructions from the manufacturer, that are different from all the rest?

This looks like an excellent program. Maybe the problems is only with the authorization process.

I see numerous other people had problems with this program's behavior.

The Stickypass installation portion which showed what and where to enter the authorization code is very unclear. If I can't register it easily, how can I trust them with my passwords????

Your next product featured has a password manager in it.

After referring a lot of people to your site, and registering other programs through you, I now have to register again and get an authorization password sent to me to get into the help forums.

What is that about? Easier to complain in the public area than get to the forums?

Why do you think people are bitching in the public review forums?
