If you like the game wizzard posted for Monday's free games project called Das Uberleben, you'll also like the first game in the list above (AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity ) as they are both sky diving games, (though Das Uberleben is really a cave jumping experience, lol). Oddly I recieved an Email from the developers of AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity only the other day with a link to a pre-release version of the game (when I first played the game i was really impressed with it, so contacted the developers to say I'd be interested in helping with the Beta testing). Well the almost finished product is really cool, with the original 8 levels expanding to 80 levels, plus a new menu to select options etc. Unfortunately the pre release game is only available to those whove pre orderer the game, which I think is slated for release fairly soon.

You can find details of Das Uberleben by following the link below:

I'd only bought the Orange box several weeks before it was offered on Steam, but the price wasn't that different from the offer. I buyall my DVD based games from Game (UK) They always have offers on. their bundles are usually good as well because you can mix and match. 3 for £10 ($14), 2 for £15 ($21) and 2 or £25 ($35) The £20 deals are normally £4.99 each, the £15 are usually £9.99 each and the £25 are usually either £15 or £19.99 each. though to order overseas will add some postage and packaging (it's free in the UK) I've not found anywhere that can consistently beat Games prices, though there are occassional Amazon bargains.

I think I'll pop over to game now, lol, see if there's anything I've missed. I have virtually every game I fancy from them now.

The dlc for Mirror's Edge doesn't do it for me either, but I've not exhausted the original levels yet so it's worth a re-install anyway. Apparently there's a fairly realistic Tomb Raider Underworld mod with a 3rd person view (for those who can bear looking at Lara's derrière). Not sure if I'd want to run around unarmed in Half Life, but I've heard rumours about a "Half Life's Edge" mod comming up. I'm feeling more and more bummed about not getting the Orange Box when it was on offer :-{

AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! is almost hypnotic. The full version is definitely on my wish list too!

When AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! is released as a full version I will definitely be getting it. I haven't worked out whether it will be a commercial or freeware release yet. either way it'll be worth having in my game library.

As for Mirrors Edge, I hope they release an expansion pack soon. I'm not so keen on the downloadable content as it's rather abstract. I much prefer jumping around a real looking environment to absract colored blocks. I think they should have released that as a free add-on. :)

It was like a breath of fresh air playing it for the first time after spending the last several years playing first person shooters.

Maybe we are going to see more of these jumping games being released, though they will each need something innovative. Maybe real looking buildings as opposed to the clean cut and futuristic mirrors edge.

The commercial 3D version of Mirror's Edge was released in January. If you like the 2d browser game then you'll love it. My best time was nowhere near the ones currently listed on the leaderboard, but I actually made it to the top spot way back when there were only four people on it ;-)
I keep shortcuts for all the games that I've bought so I can see what I've got and where I put it. It was on the computer that went up in flames. I'm going to re-install when my new puter is ready.

Thoroughly enjoyed "AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!" last night. Thanks again Whabbit!

Regards,

I posted a free 2D version of Mirrors edge a few months ago. It's only one level yet, but the author has said it will be expanded. It may very well have been by now. :)

I'm going to reinstall my copy of Mirrors Edge. I'd only played through half the game when I had to reformat my drive. I forgot to create a back up of the save file, so will have to start from the beginning. It's a great game.

Edit:

Actually the free version of Mirrors edge isn't downloadable yet. the game is a browser game, which the author has plans to make into a downloadable game sometime in the near future, but not yet. I think he was hoping to expand the single level into a bigger game before making it available. Anyway, as it is, it's quite anenyoyable game. If you like the above game you'll probably like this and definitely like the full blown version of Mirrors Edge.

Great finds Whabbit!

When I saw those bold letters "AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!" it made me think of a short story by one of my favorite authors. He describes the encounter between a woman and a spider... from the spiders point of view
"the one that got away that was
THIIIIIS
big"
;-D
I'd never seen a base jumping sim before and the videos look great. Incoming!
Thanks very much!

You have wondering what happened to my copy of Mirror's Edge. I love the "Jump London" feeling. Thanks for the reminder.

lol

The spiders a quick, so be warned

As for the demo, it's worth downloading unless you're on dial up. I loved Mirrors Edge, and like the falling concept. Despite it's simple idea, I found it very entertaining in an odd sort of way. the overall presentatio of the alpha demo is excellent. It looks like I'll be buying this when it's finally released (unless it's freeware of course) The other two shooters are graphically very retro so some may not like them, still if you liked the original Doom you'll propbably like Doom 6666, and if you like psychedalia, Canopia is a must have.

Make sure you watch out for my next post. I found the website that I'd lost so will be posting the developers whole portfolio (around 7 or 8 games). They are all on the same page otherwise I may have posted them piece meal.

I’ve left it little late for the games I promised I’d be posting today. So will post them tomorrow or Thursday. (I’m keen to start playing Dead Space which I bought earlier today - well yesterday now, but haven’t had any time to play it yet, so in a rush I decided to plunder Caimans great stock of games. I have tested each one quickly, but not properly played any of the games, simply because of Dead Space awaiting

Okay on with the games……. today is going to be a bit of a weird day because I’m actually going to include an alpha demo for the first time ever on this project. I know it’s not a full version game, but I was so impressed with it’s originality (though some may argue it has elements of PilotWings and Mirror's Edge) and simplicity of the game I thought it worth adding to the pot. The game is called:

AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity (119Mb)

This is the alpha demo for AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, and aerial stunt game. The alpha shoves you off of floating skyscrapers in eight levels set over an alternate Boston, MA, and ends with an upsetting "thank you for playing" speech by the studio.

"In AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!, you dive off of a building and rely on quick reflexes to negotiate the intricate tangle of girders that make up the City. You perform aerial stunts at terminal velocity before parachuting into the arms of your cheering fans. While other skydivers have it easy, you have to earn the adoration of the crowds by gliding within an eyelash of that glass super-skyscraper at 91 miles per hour."

Check out two alpha videos showing gameplay of the skydiving-stunt game where you can earn bonus points by blowing kisses to people -- or by giving them the finger -- as you barrel down through Mirror's Edge DLC-like levels trying to prevent your own "street pizza" status.

Canopia (2.88MB)

Quite an unusual flying shooter. Almost psychedelic…….

Canopia is a rich asteroid with full-grown life everywhere. Human being has grown in peace with nature and magic .

But strange news come from the south, some changes start to appear in the ecosystem. As a botanist, you'll try to get there to understand the problem. As you travel, the landscape is getting full of explosive plants, and agressive animals. On your journey, you start to discover the existence of an ancient technology-orientated society. You will find multiple artefacts and temples.

Soon you will need to find other sidekicks to help you advance in the game because you are not strong enough to fight , and not able to understand those strange machinery from ancient times... but don't worry - canopia's taverns are full of other adventurers offering their help.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here’s another one for midori :) This one WILL get to you. The graphics are slightly better than my last offering for the day Doom 6666. Typical low bit rate, but the overall effect is quite pleasing. I though the spiders were well done and the fact that you need more than a couple of shots to kill each one can make this game a challenge. If you have a real phobia for spiders, don’t download this one. ;)

Eight legged Freak: (6.16Mb)

Produced for Warner Bros.Pictures. Let the Squashing Begin promotes the Summer 2002 feature film Eight Legged Freaks by bringing the heart pounding terror of giant spiders to a 3D first person shooter. An array of weapons and challenges draw the player into the game.

Download Link

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Doom 6666 (2.07Mb)

This is a pretty basic remake of Doom, but for Doom fanatics you may find it a worthwhile experience. The menu is okay, but the graphics are as old as I remember Doom was the last time I played it. However, the author has tried to inject some originality into the game. If you like retro you’ll love it. I found the mouse sensitivity was way to high, so you may need to adjust it. (didn’t check to see if you could though)
Apparently the electrified water is very hard to get past, lol.

controls:

mouse = aim
arrows = move
A = jump
Z = duck
space = open door, etc
0...9 = select weapon
left Ctrl or left mouse = fire
left Alt = weapon special function
Enter = reload weapon
Esc = back to menu

Download Link

http://www.caiman.us/pageN.php?nr=1347&f=Doom6666.zip

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Canopia and Doom 6666 are manual installs, which means you’ll have to place them where you usually install your games by either unzipping the files to the target position, or unzipping to the desktop and copying the games manually, then creating shortcuts. Eight legged Freaks and the demo come with full installers and create shortcuts for you.
