You can't just pick out a single site and draw a conclusion that their users are representative of the general population - The percentages will vary from site to site and also from country to country.

What's the best source for browser usage stats?
http://www.impressivewebs.com/browser-usage-stats/

Browser Stats
http://www.upsdell.com/BrowserNews/stat.htm

The best stats for a site are the stats gathered for that particular site: and even these are skewed by caching and faulty browser-detection. For example, consider Kerry Watson’s Browser Statistics page: this page uses three different hit counters whose reports should be comparable; but they are not, in part because of faulty browser detection.

Bottom line: use statistics with extreme caution.

W3 Counter
http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php

StatCounter
http://gs.statcounter.com/

Usage Share of Web Browsers (Wikipedia)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers

As can be seen it is almost impossible to come up with actual usage levels for each browser - and it is easy to find a site with stats to support your argument or your favorite browser.

The "most popular browser" is important probably only for the marketing people in Microsoft/Google or Mozilla. For the average user they choose a browser that they like (works the way they want to work).

Hopefully close competition between the browsers will promote innovation and fresh features as each company tries to invent a better mousetrap. While I don't use the browser "Opera" - it is nice to see they can innovate from "behind" (in terms of market share), and the claims that several ideas that were introduced first in Opera have since been adopted by the "Big 3".

Thanks, Sheepskate. No go! I took it out and it said the file was invalid then.

Ended up removing/uninstalling NotePro and having to use a restore point from Friday morn so I really didn't lose much since I installed the offending program Friday night. Just uninstalling the program didn't "fixed" my sandbox. Once the program was gone it kept opening IE..which I NEVER use.

If the Target line really reads
C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" default_browser
then there is an unwanted quotation mark after Start.exe.

My theory for the behaviour is then that Sandboxie gets the parameter '" default_browser' instead of 'default_browser' and therefore doesn't treat default_browser as a system variable but as a literal text. Instead it demands Windows to start 'default_browser' and as there is no program with that name Windows will treat it as a document name and launch whatever program is associated with blank file types (or with unrecognized file types). In your case that is NotePro and therefore you get NotePro when you wanted Firefox.

That is my deduction based on the presently known facts.
/Sherlock :-)

It thinks it is a browser...Firefox 7. I am using Sandboxie Pro 3.54. This is really strange. I have checked associations, folders, shortcuts everything I can think of. I have uninstalled Sandboxie with all settings and when I reinstall, it still opens the icon "Sandboxed Web Browser" as NotePro. This is what shows as Target: "C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" default_browser" This is what is in "Start In: "C:\Program Files\Sandboxie" Target for NotePro :"C:\Program Files\NotePro\notepro.exe" and Start In "C:\Program Files\NotePro"

I didn't install it with Sandboxie. And I had no troubles at all installing NotePro. NotePro opens every time when I click on "Sandboxed Web Browser". I don't want to uninstall NotePro as I was actually thinking of purchasing it. I really like the dictionaries..but Now...

I went to their forum and did a search and found nothing. I know as this is an older program they probably aren't going to be in a hurry to figure this out. I an just hoping maybe you guys have some ideas.

Any thoughts???

http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/news/2098309/google-chrome-outpaces-firefox-gain-spot-uk

Chrome is now the UK's second most popular browser, with nearly one in four internet users choosing the Google software over Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer, according to new research.
The latest figures from web metrics firm StatCounter show that Chrome overtook Mozilla's Firefox in the UK browser market in June, and now boasts a share of over 22 per cent, just one per cent more than Firefox.
Similarly, Opera's growth has been flat since July 2010, and cannot even boast a one per cent market share.

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2099511/chrome-users-risk

Chrome OS users are at risk
Browser extensions are bad for you
SOFTWARE HOUSE Google's Chrome operating system (OS) has many security features built in by default, but its Achilles' heel is its browser extensions which, according to experts, expose people's data to attacks.
Whitehat Security researchers Matt Johansen and Kyle Osborn discussed several Chrome extension-based attack vectors at the Black Hat USA security conference yesterday and, according to them, these fundamental design flaws in Google's web-centric operating system will not be easy to address.
Google Chrome OS is built around the Chrome web browser and most of its functionality comes from web-based apps and extensions that can be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store. However, Chrome's privilege system for these items opens attack possibilities.
Those surfing through the web store will notice that many extensions and apps have warnings like "this extension can access your data on all websites" or "this app can access your tabs and browsing history". Any of them can be a serious security risk.
People will need to be very careful about what Chrome extensions they install and keep them up to date. If not, you are more the fool. µ

http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/news/2098900/google-adds-instant-pages-chrome-update

Google has announced that the Chrome 13 update will support Instant Pages, a feature which instantly displays previews of sites in search results.
The feature had previously been available only to Chrome beta users.
"This means that sometimes when you click a Google search result in Chrome, the page will appear to load much faster than before,"

http://www.palemoon.org/

Why settle for a basic build of your Firefox browser on Windows Operating Systems when you can have one that performs 25% faster? Mozilla does not provide optimized browser packages for Windows, while many Linux ("from scratch") users get the advantage of a browser built specifically for their system. That needs to change! So, here is the Pale Moon project.

http://www.palemoon.org/technical.shtml

The Pale Moon browser has the following features:

    * Specifically optimized for current processors. It makes full use of the enhanced

instruction sets of newer CPUs - as a result, this browser will not run on older systems
Uses a little less memory than the official builds because of the disabled features (listed below) go & see

Supported processors see fist most new ok.

386 / 486 / Pentium / Pentium II / Pentium III ( NO )

I been testing it for a few week & it is faster and all add-ons work so far just go get the firefox add-on as you need, & hope you like it.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/mmpc/archive/2010/09/01/rogue-msil-zeven-wants-a-piece-of-the-microsoft-security-essentials-pie.aspx

A new rogue has started making its appearance from compromised websites: Rogue:MSIL/Zeven. We received a sample (70be8ca73142922fd78acf2aafa9f141a977f15a) and a URL and began our investigation.

Let us say from the beginning that the guys behind this rogue like to copy big-time. They start by auto-detecting what browser the user is currently using, and then faking the malware warning page if the browser is Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox. This is meant to be a social engineering scheme in order to trick the user into downloading and installing the rogue, relying on the user’s trust of his day-to-day browser.

Took a look at it...and while the eye candy is awesome, I can't even imagine the RAM usage, and it takes too long from going from one page to another. Tabs are useful because I can go from my last tab to the first with 1 click.

Ever visit a webpage and can't get it to work no matter what you do? You try all 5 of your web browsers and it still comes back with an error. Then you begin to wonder if it's just you or if the site really is down. Worry no more, simply check if it's Down For Everyone Or Just Me?

Simple site, won't win any appearance awards, but it gives you a starting point if you're having trouble connecting to websites. At least it'll steer you in the right direction!

Not a problem, I've been known to ramble on myself from time to time. Good to hear you got yourself up and running. As for not being sure how exactly you fixed your problem, welcome to the club. A lot of time even the most ardent pc user isn’t exactly sure how they fixed a problem. They might not admit that, but then all together that’s another story... Take Care

Sorry Renegade! Guess I was rambling a bit ... LOL
"it" is, indeed, Firefox. I used Internet Explorer in order to post my cry for help.
Anyways, I think I have "it" fixed. And I'm not too sure how I did THAT either! (kri-eye! I wish I wasn't so darned 'puter illiterate)
I used RevoUninstaller to get rid of Firefox (once again), then used CCleaner to clear out any leftover 'stuff', and finally, I used TuneUp Utilities and had it do a disk scan.
I don't know which one did the trick or if it was a combination of the three of them but I was able to reinstall the newest Firefox and that's the browser I'm using right now.
Hope I clarified everything and thanks so much for taking an interest!
katch

Hello katchy,

Ok help me out here. What is "it" because I'm interpreting "it" as being Firefox, but that doesn't make any sense. When you discovered Firefox wasn't opening, the first step you took to fix the problem was to uninstall "it" then reinstall "it". But how could you uninstall "it" if "it" wasn't openning in the first place?
