There were a lot of special offers for updates on given away software.
If i get a one year license the license should work all the time no matter which version / update runs.

Except when it is stated that the software cannot be upgraded. With some programs there is a distinction between "updates" (such as updates to a virus signature database) and "upgrades" (such as upgrading the version of a program from version 3.0 to 3.1 etc). If the developer decides they don't want to include upgrades/updates in the giveaway then it is their choice.

Recently it told me that there was an update and I was silly enough to click on it without thinking. Now I have a version with an update I didn't really need and its a 30 day trial and I have no way to reactivate if I reinstall.

Normally Premium booster asked you to delete any backups older than "8 backups old".

Generally when it comes to the registry - just restoring a copy of the registry older than a few days (on a typical system) is probably going to cause more problems than it could possibly help.

On my system, for example - I would never consider doing a "registry restore" after 24 hours - because so much other stuff will have changed.

If you are happy that windows and your applications are working correctly - there is probably no benefit in keeping backups beyond maybe a week or two (at the most).

Extract all 3 files from the downloaded PremiumBooster.zip

You should see setup.exe (which you obviously found and run). There is also a readme.txt (instructions on how to install and T&C) and most importantly - Activate.exe which will make it a full version instead of a 31 day trial.

You will probably need to make sure that Premium Booster isn't running when you run activate.exe

Also - if you update the product - it will only be a trial (If you read the T&C you cannot update the program). You should uninstall & reinstall the Giveaway version.

Hi KaerynMon! No you are not doing anything wrong from what I can see. Just that many available options are running really low for you. Are you sure you can't get in there under safe mode? If not, how about safe mode command prompt (or whatever they call it)? If that one works, report back ok? Do you know how to use DOS commands? Like rename, CD, etc? If you can get it into command prompt, to quit type "exit" and hit the enter key. Although if I am remembering wrong, use CTRL-ALT-DEL and you should be able to shut down from there.

I only have one OS on that computer - but I do have the Windows XP Pro install disk for that computer - it's a different version from the one on my laptop if that matters (my laptop has the media center edition). I can't get the desktop to boot from that disk though. I changed the BIOS settings so that it would boot from the CD-ROM drive first - either that didn't work or it just freezes that way too.
I tried making a CD with BartPE from the old install disk, but since that disk was before SP1, BartPE won't function for it.
Any other ideas on something I might be able to do here or on what I might be doing wrong?

This is why it is so important to download ERUNT (it's free). As when Windows won't boot (even in safe mode) you can still fix it with ERUNT.

Do you have a second OS or a bootable CD like a Windows XP install disk that you can access the hard drive in a command prompt or something? If so, just rename the folder where Premium Booster lives. Then when it is up and running, rename the folder back and uninstall it if you want to get rid of it.

If you don't have a bootable CD, BartPE is free and does a wonderful job for an unbootable OS. I believe everyone should have a copy of it. And you can make one from your laptop if you are stuck (if your laptop can burn a CD that is).

I downloaded this program during its giveaway period. I tried it on my laptop first and loved it - it runs much faster now. Since it worked so well on my laptop I ran over to the desktop to download it there before the giveaway period ended. I installed it there and it didn't appear to have any problems.

Now, a couple days later, I'm trying to start up my desktop and it freezes on the welcome screen for Windows XP. To be more precise, it just doesn't get past that screen. It's not quite frozen, as the mouse still moves. I've left it there for half an hour and it still can't get past it.

Premium Booster was the only program I ran on that day - I had to start up the computer to even download it, and shut it down when I was finished.

Does anyone have any idea how I might be able to fix my desktop system? I've tried running it on the "last known working conditions" as well as in safe mode - neither have worked. They both freeze up on that same welcome screen.

When I tried installing it again, I still received the same expired message, but when I tried the Mirror site download 4,314 KB, it worked perfectly and gave me an Activation window with the License number I had to enter in the program. That install also prompted a message from my firewall saying the program had changed, so the Mirror site either has an older or newer version available.

If you try it that way and you might get this to work properly. Again, this is the download from the mirror site and it is a different size then the original download. Now I did notice that even though I entered the license number and closed the application (as recommended to save changes), that when I started the program again and checked under registration, the license number was NOT showing. I am not sure if that makes a difference since it does not say Trial version anymore, but I though I should mention it.

Another thing to mention is that I just ran the Premium Booster program and it found 192 errors. I use CCleaner, a great freeware program and just ran it yesterday, and again, after running Premium Booster, but before making any changes suggested by Premium Booster, and CCleaner only found one problem; quite a difference.

I have been using CCleaner for a while now, without problems so I trust it, and it gets very high reviews so I am going to stick with that.

The windows "Registry" is explained as follows:

In computing, the Windows registry is a database which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions, 64-bit versions and Windows Mobile. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, and preferences of the PC and so on. Whenever a user makes changes to "Control Panel" settings, or file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry.

The Windows Registry was introduced to tidy up the profusion of per-program INI files that had previously been used to store configuration settings for Windows programs. These files tended to be scattered all over the system, which made them difficult to track.

This is a VERY important part of your system. If you are not sure of what it is you are doing..DON'T touch it. Messing up this area of your system can do serious damage.
If you are the adventurous type however, then please MAKE A BACKUP before you mess with it. Just my two cents :)
