Filmmakers bet on BitTorrent for a hit

An Australian film that is challenging conventions on how to fund and distribute movies could be seen by tens of millions of people under a bold internet deal.

Through a partnership the Sydney filmmakers secured with BitTorrent, The Tunnel will become the first Australian film to be promoted through the US software-maker's internet platforms after the movie's release on Wednesday.

The internet company says its free software has more than 100 million users monthly. Promotions for The Tunnel, selected for the company's "artist spotlight" program, include a prominent link to a free viewing of the film for all new users installing the software - averaging about 450,000 a day, BitTorrent says. The push will continue for at least a fortnight after the film's release.

Silly idea as it's for 24 hours and the time you end up with hosts, peers and leechers, the period would be over.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one! LOL

There are plenty download managers out there that does a great job on large files. But none are more than 100 megs because the latest hosting is being done on a site that only allows up to 100 meg downloads and they are stored for only a short period of time. As they should be because the software is only good for activation the day it is posted here on GOTD.

BTW,,,,,You'd be suprised at what level members are at here in the forum. Just follow the links. You'll be suprised and also enjoy alot of the sites they have just like yours.

With all these large download sizes as of late, it might be a good idea to get a BitTorrent tracker running. While not ideal for long-term sharing, BitTorrent is excellent for large files hosted for short periods of time. With a lot of people downloading, it's also faster.

If the technical level of users would be a problem, you could offer a small standalone client that fetched that particular days download, ala the World of Warcraft patcher.

Just a thought.
