Hi, IndoMK, sorry to hear, that your registration was not successful.
It's always better, not only to install the programmes during the GOTD time frame, but also to use them for the first time to complete the installation.
Be aware, that the GOTD activation and the registration of the software are different processes.
It's too late now to activate or register Aston.
Please read the FAQ for further info: Problems and Solutions

You could of course contact the developer, and explain your situation. Though the terms exclude support, some developers are generous and and will help.

So, I'm probably too late with this... :'( I was very excited to see Aston2 as the giveaway of December 2nd. I downloaded it, installed it, and received confirmation that it had been activated. I wasn't able to run the program and try it out much at that time, so I opted not to switch to it when asked. Now, I have the time, so I started Aston, and received a request to activate it. I thought it had already been activated... I was told it had been. So does this mean that because the giveaway is over and I apparently only have a 30 day trial (according to the 'About'), that I can't activate it and use it? :(

These forums are not for discussing how to extract registration keys or remove/bypass the limitations of the giveaway software. The best legit way to get some keys that you can hold in your hand is to register the software.

Alternatively you could contact the programmers of the "giveaway" and ask them to send you instructions on extracting registration keys for their software.

I obviously stepped on some toes. So let me ask things in a different way and make
a different statement. My posting yesterday pertained to the question of TubbyCat
and it still does. We agree to install before the promotion is over. We do not
agree not to reinsert the license number when the software fails in less than
24 hours. So does anyone know of software or any other method to see what the
activation key numbers are? Have you noticed many of the software vendors here do
not try to hide the keys? But unfortunately some do.

theres a media player in some of the downloaded aston skins. does anyone know what player is it, and where can i download it? if click on it it says file not found. I have winamps and window media players installed and the aston player cant even play...anyone plz?

may be widespread. These software companies want us to spread good words about their
products. They do have to function for that to happen. So does anyone have some idea
how to see what the activation, license number, registration code or whatever it is
called is? There are no rules against digging out this information for reinstallation
purposes. They just won't provide it to us.

Hey Omilon: I can only strongly recommend you google Erunt and start using it. At one point I had to re-format my comp. Before having fully installed all programs, I reloaded an earlier registry which led to the super gau you experienced. Blue screen and nothing. It tried loading Aston, which wasn't there .... anyway, to make story short from Taskmanager I was able to get to the Erunt directory and restored the original registry. Worked like a charm ...

I'm so happy to hear you got it working. Sorry you had such a hard time. I know what that's like myself: That's why I thought I might be of some assistance to you. At least we "learn" something from these disasters. Have a good rest-of-the-day.

tried system restore..tried explorer.exe in task manager..didnt work..tried reboot into safe mode ...didnt work (it froze after a partial boot up)
even tried altering the registry as per some posts (different form) didnt work
finally went back to astons form and got another set of instructions..
went into task manager ..typed only the word explorer into it..got into my documents and tried then to access desktop but coud not..done it again and manageed to hit the explorer button ....downloaded a small executable to my documents clicked on it started the executabe..shutdown and started up and there was my desktop..whew..its been a long four hours of total frustration...tks for your prompt reply..and help

If you can get to the TASK MANAGER with <CTRL-ALT-DELETE>, select File, New Task(Run...) and type in EXPLORER.EXE. That should restore your desktop. If not, you'll probably have to reboot into SAFE MODE by pressing the <F8> key while rebooting. Once you ever do manage to get the desktop showing again, it will probably reset itself to showing all the time thereafter.

You shouldn't have to reformat. That should be the very last resort. You didn't say whether you tried using SYSTEM RESTORE. That is another choice from the <F8> key startup menu if the TASK MANAGER tip fails.

i decided to uninstall this prg and when i noticed their could be problems with the uninstal i went step by step with the instructions..and on restart window loads goes all the way to when the desktop should show and i get a blue screen with working cursor.i tried several of the things mentioned here..ie going to the registry to schell ..mine list explorer.exe on that line..tried other things to no avail.went to astons website nothing there that might help..been installing and uninstalling progs for years never seen anything like this..dont really want to reformat..writing this from a second computor..any help much appreciated.

I'm having a problem of my own. I got Aston the last time GAOTD gave it away and loved it. I downloaded yesterdays to get the newer version. Today I log in and it's asking me to buy it. How can I fix this?

It probably is but your going to have to set it up. What had people going is after they set it up and didn't like it they had all kinds of trouble with there pc after removing it. (Alot had to reformat there HD and start from scratch)

i've read their probs way back 6months ago, and it got me scared to use this one.
