I've managed to get back to my main email i.e. whiterabbit-uk@hotmail.co.uk, so use that to email me. but also as a back up send the same message to Whiterabbit-moonrising@hotmail.co.uk as I think someone is trying to hack my shorter email.

For the past several weeks if I try to access it in the afternoon, it nearly always says I've tried my password too many times and locks me out, even though I haven't been trying to log in. My password is nearly 80 Alphanumeric numbers & special characters, so whoever's been trying for a couple of months thankfully hasn't gained access. I think it's because of my Steam account, which has a lot of unredeemed games in my inventory that could be stolen if they gained access. I used to have thousands of pounds worth, but over the last year have managed to sell quite a few, but there's still a lot left that I'm sure scammers are trying to steal.

I also keep changing my password, in the hope that whoever it is, will give up.

:)

Just revisited this page as I've been reinstalling a lot of my old arcade games. Sadly a lot of the links I posted over the last 18 years are no longer accessible and all of the images of game play have disappeared. Some I posted on Photobucket using a free account. Several years ago, Photobucket decided to reduce the number of images you could upload for free. I'd created several Photobucket accounts as I was always posting images over on the giveaway site and here in the forums. When they reduced the number of images you could upload for free, they locked all my accounts and said if I wanted to see them again, I would have to pay a monthly fee.

I may over time update this post as I think it's an important resource.

Finally, you mat find many of these games over on MyAbandonware HERE

Action Ball and Chak's Temple

Action Ball

Great News, one of my all time favorite 3D breakouts Action Ball is finally being released on steam sometime in March this year. The developer released the sequel Actionball 2 back in 2020 and in one of the discussions posted a comment saying that if 100 community members liked the comment, he would release the firs tone. Well, it never got to 100 I think it stands at 64 votes), but he's still releasing it, Yeah!

Chak's Temple

Also, available free is another excellent and unusual breakout called Chak's Temple. The developer made this freeware over a decade ago, yet I still see it being sold on some of the shareware sites. I know it was made freeware because I was in touch with the developer at the time.

I've checked several download sites, but most of the files I downloaded were suspect with up to 20 malware hits. The only site I downloaded a copy that was totally free from malware hits was from My Real Games HERE; I checked it against Virus Total and it was given a clean bill of health. You can see the result of the scan HERE

I've not yet had the pleasure of downloading and installing any games from My Real Games; so cannot say what sort of system they use; suffice it to say that all the free game sites I know of that stock games permanantly or for extended periods all have an advert based giveaway so that they can pay the developers for allowing them to give them away.

It was originally given away HERE way back in April 2007, where it received a positive 88% from 269 votes with 64 comments.

I've started to update some of the comments, adding new links and later images of the games I've mentioned. So far I'm still working on the first comment, which has a lot of different games mentioned. Some of the links are broken, so I will be searching for suitable working links. I've also started to add links to security scans for the games I've links to downloads.

Just an update and trying to consolidate any threads that contain breakout related information.

The link to download custom made levels within the game Ricochet Infinity was closed down a few years ago. It was possible back then to add thousands of fan made levels directly from in game.

Thankfully I found a site created by fans of the game that has managed to save most of the best level sets; and are available to download and manually add to your installed version of the game.

You can find the thread called Ricochet infinity downloadable Level Sets - STILL AVAILABLE as of Nov 2019 HERE

It seems the game is no longer available via Amazon, but you can get it from one of the decent abandonware sites. I've linked to those in the thread above. i.e. HERE

Last year Steam released Action Ball 2 a decade plus old breakout on Steam. I posted a review of the game because it is one of the best 3D breakouts I've ever played and is still among my top ten breakout games I've ever played. If the comments section of the review I've posted updated links to several (originally commercial but now free) breakouts that are definitely worth checking out.

I've been revisiting some of my old breakouts recently, and have even contacted a few of the developers asking if there is anything in the works. for example, Caromble is still in early access despite being four years old now. I originally gave this a thumbs down in my Steam review becasue I felt there was issues with the bat being too sluggish (resulting in lots of lost balls, plus the ball physics was way off IMO. Well I'm happy to report that after a recent play through I can say both of those issues have been sorted by the small development team, who I believe work together most Friday evenings on fixing bugs and adding more content to the game. I must say I'm actually really impressed with what they have achieved and would highly recommend the game.

Sadly, two of the decent breakouts that were available on Steam have since been removed for various reasons. The first was Ricochet Infinity, which I still consider one of the best breakouts ever made due in part to loads of original power ups, a massive variety of brick types and a decent level editor as well as lots of ball types and bats, each with its own peculiarity and the availability of literally tens of thousands of free levels (via level sets ranging from a few levels to over a hundred) directly from in game. Amazon purchased the license from Reflexive Arcade several years ago and kept the upload site open until earlier this year. Those custom levels are no longer available because Amazon shut the site down. They have also removed the game from sale for now. You can still buy it via sites like Big Fish games,(HERE) but the game has been cut in half because of the inability to access all of those levels. If you can find anyone who downloaded them previously and still has the game installed, it is possible to add them to your game as you literally just drop them into a level folder. I actually have some, but not all. I downloaded several thousand levels years ago before Infinity was released and all of those levels from previous versions of Ricochet still work with infinity, though they are not as exciting and varied as the Infinity levels as there were many more brick types and backgrounds available for infinity. I'm sure someone somewhere will have uploaded some of those level sets, trouble is finding them.

Another excellent breakout that has been removed was Reaxxion, that had a brilliant bat mechanic, which enabled you to create balls from the bat and then rebuild the bat by collecting drops of mercury that were dropped from the bricks you'd destroyed. Other original ideas in that game such as collecting some of the balls which then were converted into a special more powerful power up made it a must buy for any breakout fan. That is also still available from the big name distributors such as Big Fish (HERE).

The only other 'really' decent breakouts available on Steam are Shatter and Ionball 2: Ionstorm, though
Ionball 3 that was released last year looks decent, but I've curtailed my spending on games significantly over the last couple of years (after spending over £40 000 on games since joining Steam in 2009) so haven't had chance to play it yet. It sort of reminds me of Luxor Evolved the ball popping and last in the series of the Luxor match three game with respect to its neon like graphics.

I've updated the Jardanians post by ZF. Jardanians 2 lite is now also free. You can find more details in the Jarkanoid thread HERE

Tx posted the following:

Jardinains: A Free, Classic and Addictive Block Breaking Game for Windows, Linux and Mac

Recently I found this game in one of my friends computer and got addicted to this amazing game. I searched on Internet and found the official website to download this game.

"Jardinains" game is actually a new version of old classic block breaking ball and paddle games like Arkanoid and Breakout. You get a paddle and a ball in this game. You can move this paddle left and right using your mouse. You can also click your mouse to do various things (such as releasing the ball or firing weapons).

Above your paddle, you'll see an assortment of bricks. You need to destroy these bricks with the ball which you strike by the paddle. Hit all the bricks with the ball and you'll move to the next level.

Jardinains_Free_Classic_Game.png

Sounds easy? Well here comes the twist. Inside the bricks live "Nains". Nains are cute little critters who pop out of their bricks every now and then to have some fun and give you a headache. You and the nains don't see eye to eye. They want to throw stuff at your paddle; you want to knock them off their bricks. Luckily, your ball is a great way to knock nains off bricks.

Once you've knocked the nains off the bricks, you can bounce them for points, bonuses, and personal gratification. These powerups will (usually) help you knock more nains off their bricks even faster than before, often with amusing results.

The game comes in 4 modes: Easy, Normal, Hard and Insane. It also allows you to create multiple players so that you can use one for you, one for your friend and so on.

The game is absolutely free and there is a paid version as well. If you like the free version, you can buy the full version for a whole slew of extra levels, nains, and other good stuff.

You can download it using following link:

    Download Jardinains Game

BONUS TIP: The game comes with some cheat codes. To cheat just pause the game by pressing P key, now press the C key, and click OK. Now you can use following keyboard cheats while the game is running:

Press G to keep from losing your ball (and to substantially grow your paddle)
Press N to advance to the next level
Press the number 1-7 to change your ball
Press S to toggle slow motion

Bear in mind that enabling cheats will disqualify your current game from the high-score list.

Very well organized and helpful.

When Gamezebo used to have the never ending game quiz, I would play it and write down games that looked interesting and I swear this was one I downloaded but I can't find any trace of it on the site, but then Joel keeps changing things around and losing half of it!

When I played a demo I liked I kept it in a folder but removed the game so the name would be there to remind me. Well since I lost that drive I lost my reminder...

Ah yes, Cow Ball. I knew it was something like that. As for the other game, sounds like it could be a decent breakout. I'm sure I would have come across it if it was real :) Sounds like you've got a good idea going, lol. Though I may be wrong.

The above mentioned Fun and Bullets was originally called Cow Ball.

Have a question you might be able to answer. I hope I didn't dream this one up in my head, but I swear I played this arkanoid style game that had kind of a punky feel to it in the fact that you basically went around a circuit and played against the owners of these clubs to have bragging rights...

Any clues??? Or did I just come up with a good idea in my dreams, lol

There hasn't been much in the way of activity in this genre for ages. Since my last post on this thread we've seen maybe three or four new breakouts released. Of those I've forgotten the names of two of them simply because they were unremarkable. Of the other two, one I only found the other day over on Alawars site called Mega World Smash HERE. If you liked the Magic Ball series and the Strike Ball series then you'll love this game. After playing the first several levels it seems to be a hybrid of the two games. Magic Ball is now called Smash Frenzy, for some unknown reason Alawar decided to change the name of all four games in the series about 18 months ago. Anyway it's definitely got features from both of those games. I like the ability to upgrade your power ups as well by capturing stars that drop down. If you're an expert breakout player this won't give you that much of a challenge, having the same laid back style that both of it's parent games have; though trying to make sure you collect all of the stars from each level to ensure you can upgrade can cause you to lose the odd ball. It's really nothing special, but, if you are a breakout fan like me you'll want to buy it. Alawar have reduced the price of their games since I last added to this thread. You can pick this game up for £6.99. You can see a couple of videos of Mega World Smash HERE and HERE.

The Game:

Mega World Smash raises the bar for brick breaking games and makes Arkanoid FUN again! Tear through stunning 3D scenes using your ball and paddle, unleash weapons of mass destruction, and collect stars for upgrading the bonuses. The more you play, the more powerful your character will become! As you progress, you'll marvel at how the wildly creative animated levels realistically crumble to the ground and enjoy dazzling special effects that ignite your screen. The long wait for the next great Arkanoid game is over! Mega World Smash is here!

Here are a few images (which I posted in a seperate thread earlier):

A better breakout IMO is a game called Shatter, which I purchased via Steam. It's a 2D game with up to date graphics and a very nice style. Shatter is different to any breakout you'll have ever played before. It has several different game modes all of which are interesting and, more importantly challenging. This is the first breakout i've played that does pose a challenge in years. You can see a couple of videos HERE and HERE

The Game:

Shatter is a game similar to breakout with the main difference being you can control an air current. The more bricks you break, the more shards you release, which ups your multiplier. They also fill up your power-up meter which when filled, pressing triangle releases a powerful attack. This comes in handy when you’re fighting one of the nine or so boss battles. This PSN exclusive is old but comes highly recommended. I’m not sure how its slipped my radar! If you want to play a simple, easy to pick up, fast paced game, look no further. The paddle can shoot a marvelous display of laser bullets.

Shatter is also free with a PlayStation Plus subscription which is how I found it. Which, by the way, so far has been a good deal at $18 for three months or $50 for a year. I’ve downloaded dozens of themes and tons of free games since I subscribed in August. Of course, you can’t keep the games when you stop PSN+, but most of the games aren’t worth keeping either. Except Shatter!

You can read a decent review of the game HERE

Finally I was checking a site I've not recommended in quite some time because they changed their policy with respect to toolbars and changing your homee page. Basically they started to force you to install their tool bars and changed your home page before you could play their games, much like MyPlayCity. The site is FreeGamePick. It seems they have seen the error of their ways well at least for the five games I've just installed (sister games to Helic, the game we got yesterday for free via the game giveaway side of the project). While I was perusing the site I noticed a breakout I'd not seen on any of the free games sites before called Fun and Bullets. I suspect it's had a name change and I'm sure a friend gave me this game some years ago (Nola) Still, it's not a bad breakout and again, if you are a breakout fan you may want to go moseying on down to FreeGame Pick too download it HERE Unlike the two preceeding games this one is totally free and has a cowboy theme.

They also have a few more breakouts such as Arkan Ball, Gem Ball and Egyptian Ball. Of the three Egyptian Ball then Gem Ball are the better ones IMO. Egyptian Ball has decent game physics, with the bricks responding to being hit, by falling over etc. Gem ball is related to Nuclear Ball 1 & 2. Both of which have been given away previously via the gamegiveawayoftheday.

I'll try to find time to post some images and videos of other games that have been posted in this thread over the coming months.

Hi ScarletPetal (I love the color scarlet) :) Sorry, I was so distracted with the following days games that I forgot to add the download sizes. (as well as check grammar and spellings. I posted the games without proof reading it and in a hurry as it was getting late and I was tired. I'll add the sizes as soon as I check them out. :)

Hi midori, yeah, I a;so remember playing the first arkanoid by Taito. In fact I probably spent a small fortune playing it as I seem to remember it cost 10p (equivalent to around 40 cents back then in the 1970's) Looking at it now (I think it's in the games synopsis), after playing arkanoids with many powr ups and beautiful graphics, it seems rather boring; but back then it was all we had and it was so amazing.

Arkanoids still remeain one of my most favorite arcade games, but I also know what you mean about burning out on them. I think ny genre can get a little 'faded' if you play it too much. for example, I've only just returned to playing my ricochet games after nearly 2 years of having it uninstalled. Re buying it via Steam helped.

Jarkanoid is very remincient of the first breakout in that it can take ages to complete a level. There are masses of bricks on the arena. but the variety of power ups makes it an interesting game.

If you go to the arkanoids thread and check out Jardinains, another great freeware arkanoid, you'll find something similar, but if my memory of the game serves me well, the levels are even larger than with Jarkanoids. You'll find it easier via the games synopsis. Jardinains is totally free though the author does ask for a donation if you want to add an extra 100 levels to the free version. Though you can still get the additional free levels by emailing the developer and writing a 250 word essay on why you like his game (lol). Jardinains 2 is shareware.

Thanks, wrabbit... these both look different enough to try, though I did get burned out on them for a bit. I remember the very first arkanoid I ever tried. It was just a tiny bead that you batted up to some tiny colored blocks, and I was fascinated with it! No bells, no whistles, no powerups... boy, we used to be satisfied with so little, didn't we. :)

Great games Stephen, thank you. I love arkanoids, so I will be downloading these and giving them a workout. (Or they will be giving ME one!) Images aren't too big for me, and I'm happy with the amount of info above. Being able to see images now is great for seeing exactly what a game is like.

Still haven't got to grips with DOSBox but I don't like music with my games, so I will play 3D Pulsoid in XP. I will miss the sounds though but better to have a silent game than none, lol.

Please excuse the larger than normal images found in the second game (3D Pulsoid). I thought I'd changed the resolution earlier, but I got side tracked after finding a game which I've decided to post tomorrow; which led on to finding two more games (though I later discovered that rO had already posted one of them a few months ago. I've virtually got tomorrows games ready for posting, apart from uploading all the images to my photobucket account.

Anyway, the distraction made me forget to adjust the resolutions. Thankfully they aren't too large so I may not bother to re do them (though I do like my posts to look a bit tidierusually. If you think I've added too much information; (for example the descriptions of the menu's and levels editor), I can delete a lot of it, so as to make reading a little easier too, lol.

regards

whiterabbit.

p.s.

I'll be posting the next group of games before lunch in the morning (edit, actually, as I didn't get to bed until around 5am I've only just woke up and it's already way past lunch, so it will probably be mid afternoon by the time I've uploaded the images). :) There's two well made model airplane simulators and a great little FPS game on the lines of the Battlefield series and Grand Theft Auto.

JARKANOÏD 3 is a Breakout/Arkanoid simulation programmed by Jérôme BARJOT a part time game developer whose main job in life is a postman. As it was developed during his spare-time, it took him a long time to complete it, but the effort paid off in my opinion because this game is one of the better freeware arkanoids around and better than some commercial versions, though I’d disagree with his statement which I’ve detailed below (about his game being better than other arkanoids) because there are some superb commercially available arkanoids such as ricochet infinity, Reaxxion and Acky’s XP Breakout that knock the socks off this game. (I only mention 2D arkanoids as Jarkanoid is a 2D game.

The game is played using the mouse, with some keyboard input.

The author says JARKANOÏD 3 is better than other Arkanoids because:

•	Graphics details are better

•	There are up to 100 balls simultaneously

•	22 bonuses

•	Many options to fix your own way to play (balls speed, balls acceleration, bonuses at once, bonus frequency, bonuses weight, and more…)

•	No flickering, balls moves are the smoothest possible

Minimum System Requirements:

•	Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP

•	A video accelerator with 16 Mb of video ram

•	A Pentium II Class Processor or equivalent

•	DirectX 7 or higher

•	A monitor able to display 1024*768 at 60 Hz

•	64 Mb of Ram

You can download Jarkanoid 3 HERE. The developer also created Jarkanoid and Jarkanoid 2, which you can find HERE. I’ve not searched for the original Jarkanoid yet.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3D Pulsoid:

3D Pulsod is now over 10 years old, but it still retains the quality of a commercial (but dated) game (IMO). It was made freeware by the developer some time ago, though the file that you’ll be downloading is only a demo, so you’ll need a registration code to activate the shareware version of the game. I’m not sure whether I’m allowed to post the code here, so I’m going to link to the code on the developers home page plus another site where I found the code. It can be found <a href=" http://www.fd.com.ua/3dpulsoid/">HERE; I did find the site was a little hard to connect to, but it is possible it's a connection problem at my end because i've been having trouble connecting to quite a few sites including the giveaway site. Alternatively you can find the activation code HERE (the code is highlighted in blue).

The game will play in XP, but no music or sounds can be heard. If you want to hear the games music and sound effects you will have to play the game in DOSBox. wizzard has posted a short tutorial on how to setup DOSBox. It's well worth reading if you aren't sure how to set it up. Once done you'll have many great games at your fingertips (which includes such gems as the first two Elder Scrolls RPG games and another one that's as amazing called Darklands, plus many more arcade games from the DOS days (if you're into puzzles I highly recommend a tetris clone called Squarez, a brilliant game that's hard to beat on expert mode).

The main rule of 3D Pulsoid is to control a racket with snakes and balls, destroy all the bricks and go to the next level, (really, lol).  Monsters will try to prevent you from completing your mission by  changing the trajectory of the snake or of the ball. There are plenty of bonuses to either help or hinder you.  (check out the  bonus and monster images below to get some ideas as to which bonuses you can use to win each level.  If you find the game too easy, simply ignore the positive bonuses and pick up the negative ones to ramp up the difficulty). :}

After the 32nd level the game ends and your name is placed in the Hall of Fame. Once you’ve completed the levels you can create your own levels using the levelsditor/creator; (see Level editor description and Game menu description below ). You can also play cooperatively with a second player, by controlling two rackets, which makes it easier to score higher and lose less lives. Those who like playing a standard game of Arkanoid can turn the snake into a ball with via the special option; details of which can be found in the game menu description below.

The developer has constructed the levels so that as you progress you encounter increasingly difficult levels; therefore on the earliest levels he's programmed the game so as not to encounter very dangerous monsters such as the 'Mystic' or the 'Evil Scull' (see Monster description below for details). He's also removed some of the more positive bonuses such as the 'Laser' and 'Rocket Launcher' (see bonuses description for details of all the bonuses available throughout the game).

Game Menu Description

1) Start Game. Just press it. The game starts with all the set preferences. You will be asked to enter the registration code, received from Ultisoft, Inc. company. The way of its receiving is described in the order-screen. If You don't have the registration code, You will play only 2 levels of all the 32, but after that You will have enter the code anyway.

Registration key is : 7****8 (follow the links I've provided above)

2) Options. You can change the game settings via the options menu.

Sound settings. There You can change the volume of the sound effects, music and CD-music or turn them off. Mind You, music will not play in Windows (see Frequently asked questions and answers).

Racket control settings. There the control of the game racket can be set. For the first player is mouse, and keyboard is for the second for default. If You have a joystick, the control is set to it.

Game process settings. There You can choose Your "players" - snakes or balls - Pulsoid or Arcanoid. There You can also choose the angle of the bouncing off. For Pulsoid it's fixed - 45 degrees. For Arcanoid it's not fixed.

Then You can choose the Number of players - one or two.

With User Levels You can load Your levels for playing (see Level editor description). To cancel the game with home-made level You should enter User Levels and leave it without loading anything.

Features And Hints

F10 ………………………Pause

Alt+S……………………Save game (though it will not save a level in progress, so if you say for example decide you need to save while you are part way through level 25 when you come back to the game you will have to start level 25 from the beginning.

Alt+L………………………………load saved levels (There are 8 save blocks)

If You cannot complete the game fairly, there are several cheat codes available. Type in the menu in small letters and without spaces the word fifthdimension. You will hear a sound signal, symbolizing the activating of cheat codes system. You need only to press F1 - F9 buttons.

F1 - normal racket.

F2 - double racket.

F3 - one-shot chaingun.

F4 - two-shot chaingun.

F5 - rocket launcher.

F6 - laser.

F7 - an instant exit to the next level.

F8 - the destruction of the racket.

F9 - "god mode".

If you think the game is too fast you can use the slow code. Open up the games executable using a suitable text editor and in the command line type 3dpuls.exe hispeed. Movement of snakes and bonuses will decrease by 1.5. You can also do this by executing slowgame.bat file.

The rocket explodes after You release the fire-button or when it's near the upper border of the screen.

If the snake or the ball can't find the way out of the bricks, the tank will increase it's fire power every 30 seconds - firstly it will have the chain gun, then double chain gun, then rocket launcher, and then laser. And finally if You can't complete a level the tank will go to the next level.

Some Brick Types and monsters:

Level Editor Description

The Level editor was included by the developer of the game so that you could add to the number of levels available in this game. Levels are saved into blocks, each block has 32 levels.

Functions of the editor:

Placing Bricks:

This is the main part of the editor. There You can act as a builder and place bricks for Your new level. All bricks has 6 levels of destruction - from 1 (the brick is destroyed with one hit), 5 (the brick is destroyed with five hits) to undestructable. With Your mouse take any brick and place it in the game field. It's then set to 1 - it can be destroyed with one hit. If You want to change its resistance, press number buttons from 1 to 5 and U button for undestructible.

I won't detail all the workings of the levels editor here, otherwise this thread will become too unweild. You can find more details on how to use the levels editor/creator by clicking HERE
