Thanks for the info Campy. Pavid told me it was on Steam last night. I was going to contact Arcen about whether we were going to be able to activate the game on Steam; so that's really good news. I can wait a couple more weeks. :)

AVWW 1.0 is available on STEAM now. Full price is $14.99, but there is a 10% discount (making it $13.49) until May 1st. BTW, you can get the same deal directly from Arcen. For those that got it from Arcen (like I did), our license keys are going to work on STEAM. However, they have not been activated yet. Arcen says it could be a few weeks as STEAM isn't quick in getting these to work.

Just a reminder that AVWW will officially be released on Monday April 16th so this weekend is the last chance to get in at the pre-order price.

They also posted coverage of AVWW from PAX East and this provided lots of information and coverage of the game.

Below are a few key points from and update on Arcen's web site:

"The actual release date will be, specifically, Monday April 16th itself. The game will be going live on Steam on that day as 1.0, along with having its version updated to 1.0 with Impulse, GamersGate, MacGameStore, and our own site. All of the latter already carry the game at a preorder discount."

"The preorder price has been $9.99, and will remain thus until April 16th. At launch, we'll be moving to a final price of $14.99 for the game instead of the previously-planned $19.99, however."

See the link above for more details including what is left to do and rational for changing the price. It had to do with the marketplace not the depth or content of the game.

From Arcen's web site:

"Public beta has entered its third and final stage, and players can download the demo and preorder it from the Arcen site, GamersGate, Impulse, or MacGameStore.com at this time. Other distributors will be following in the weeks to come. A Valley Without Wind 1.0 is currently set to launch in late March 2012."

At this point it is still available at the beta discount of $9.99 (which is 50% off).

Yes AI Wars is an excellent space strategy and for this price a steal. I highly recommend anyone who is reading this check it out. 75% off is brilliant.

Just noticed that Arcen's AI War is the Daily Deal on Steam. It is only $3.39 today (66% off). You can also get it along with 3 expansion packs for $5.77. If you like a detailed and intelligent space strategy game this is a great bargain.

I have played for two or three hours with no problems; on a netbook no less. I went ahead and bought a license today, but will probably save it for the next time I travel since it works so well on my netbook and I have lots of other things that will only work on my desktop.

Anyone interested in trying this should check out the AVWW Getting Started Guide. It will really help you get the feel for the game without spoiling it. As Nola stated, AVWW is very involved and there is a lot to discover. The Getting Started Guide will help keep you from getting lost or stuck.

Yes definitely. I'm tempted to buy another two copies at the reduced price for my son and daughter. They like these types of games, so it should be worth the expense.

I will have to get them to play it first to be sure. I bought a licence this afternoon. I have to send an unhandled errors report already, lol. The game crashed five minutes into game play, but that's what you get with an early Beta. they are releasing patches several times a day at the moment. Once all the bugs are fixed this is going to be a very good game.

I will be getting this. I loved AI Wars and enjoyed Tidalis. I tried the demo before they went to 2D and was not all that impressed. This afternoon I played the new demo and was impressed enough that I will be buying. It looks like it will be well worth the $ and this is a developer I want to support.

Looks a fantastic and very involved game Stephen. I went into Community/Forums while looking around the site - they have a lot of very involved gameplayers. Lots of maps to download, lots of extra spells created, etc, etc.

I came across this game created by Arcen games (the creators of AI Wars and Tidalis) while checking out the deals on Didamatic. It's called A Valley without Wind. A procedurally generated 2D side scrolling adventure, which the developers say is of limitless proportions (seeing as it's procedurally generated - meaning no two levels will be alike as they are randomly generated).

You have to survive and explore a vast persistent world filled with dangerous creatures powerful magic and ancient technology; (sounds vaguely like Terraria, though it's nothing like it). Later you will be able to play the game online with friends and help them create settlements, gathering resources to craft items and weapons, while fending off evil invaders. The multiplayer/coop isn't included with the initial download; at the moment you have to opt in to play that part of the game until they have ironed out all of the bugs. To opt in just visit the developers Wiki which can be found on the main page.
