Thanks so much Whiterabbit (and friends), for giving us these classic games - Keen, Duke & Lemmings. I have all these and more backed up.... on those ancient, large style floppy discs, so have been unable to play for years. No prizes for guessing what I'm going to be doing for the next few days!!

Ick I hated Two Worlds. lol midori if you want a copy of two worlds I'll mail you mine for free! I think if it was better supported, it would be an okay game but there are so many bugs. Plus, I don't think it was such a good idea to put level 3 and 4 wolves at the beginning of the game. I realize that the point is to produce a challenging game, but come on. It made me not even want to go off the beaten path for fear I might run into a level 6 beast lol. Seriously though midori, if you want it take it.

You can get The Gold version of Oblivion which includes the original game plus the Shivering Isles Expansion pack for around $21 in the UK (£14.99) Oddly though, Shivering Isles (the expansion) is still selling for more than the Gold Edition. There's a further collection of mods created by the developer called The Knights of the Nine, which adds new missions and extra content. The thing about Oblivion is that you don't have to follow the hundreds of missions that are available. It's basically a Sandbox game, that is you can wander around visiting the Imperial City or nearby towns at will, or just wandering the wilderness (though you need to stop off at various towns to sell off your booty or buy a plac to live in; though that's not necessarily needed as at the beginning of the game you acquire a couple of deeds to a place called Frostcrag Spires and an underground mansion called Deepscorn Hollow. (lol) You can take on quests as and when you want. You don't have to follow a particular quest until you want to, accumulating lots of quests is also allowed, though I found that visiting places where you've agreed to carry out a quest results in the character (NPC = Non playing Character) constantly asking if you've carried out the quest - sually by asking if you've got such and such an item (which may have been for that particular quest). The game is so immersive when I've played it in the past a whole night has passed without me realizing. :) I would highly recommend buying it. An Alternative is a game called 2 Worlds, which is similar but not as well supported by the modding community plus the graphic isn't quite up to the standard of Oblivion, though it's still good. I've only played Two Worlds for a few days when I bought itm last year. It also has an expansion, but I've not bothered buying it simply because I think Oblivion is better.:

I've not had the time to play Flock yet, too busy with Easter, the children and all the other games I've bought recently. I've been playing The MAW with my daughter as well as Ghost Masters. She loves both of them especially MAW.

I'll probably play Flock ages from now; I'm not in the mood for sheep at the moment, lol. I have an hankering to install all the mods I downloaded the other week when I though Filefront was closing. I downloaded virtually everything there is to get for Oblivion, so will reinstall it and add as many mods as I dare. If you've never played Oblivion, it's one of the best RPG games I've ever played. I like Fallout 3, but Oblivion is much better despite being three years old.

You can see from the video how immersive it is. There's a whole region to explore as well as underground strongholds, dungeons and catacoombs, plus additional world areas that have been created by the modding community. Severl Islands and even part of the previous elder Scrolls game Morrowing has been recreated.

Watch the following videos made by an Oblivion enthusiast. He managed to create a domino tumble in Oblivion using the games editor. Considering it's been done in a 3D gaming environment, it's actually quite amazing.

Glad your enjoying your Steam bargains. I ended up getting two from Strategy... Jack Keane and Ghost Master. Figured Flock can wait as it'll be there. Have you had a chance to play it yet? Find it very hard to maneuver those darned sheep, but will probably end up getting it. So happy you turned me on to Steam. :)

The earlier Nukem games are 'surprisingly' very playable. I've been playing them on and off in between all the games I bought over the Easter break via Steam. The massive reductions on some of the Strategy First games persuaded me to buy games I wouldn't normaly have bought. I managed to buy one final one before the time ended at midnight last night. It's a tank simulation game called Irom Warriors. It's turned out be be a fantastic bargain as it only cost me £1.49p (less than $2). It''s a tank simulation game and is very realistic. I bought a game called Tank back in the early 90's that seems very similar to this game, though the graphics are beyond comparison. also the price. I paid around £30 for Tank back in 1992. I've been facinated with Iron Warriors all day in between playing a few of the others I bought last weekend, plus and an indie freeware game called Mightier that I posted info about in the free games thread over the Christmas period. I saw it on Steam and was curious as it indicated that it was a demo, but in actual fact it was the full version. I think it's been updated so I'm going to post more info to bring it back to the front page as I think it's a really original puzzle game that was probably overlooked at Christmas due the the number of games I posted over that period. :)

Thanks Wrabbit... Duke is one of my heroes, lol! Honestly, the very first game I bought online was Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, which I just dug out to play again. So I guess all of the above was before Manhattan? which played perfectly in windows. The game had me in stitches with the remarks and such... couldn't believe I was buying an action shooting game, but there I was. I think I also had Kyodai Mahjongg, but still the shareware version before I actually bought it. There began my online game purchasing addiction! And I've been a happily addicted gamer ever since. So can't wait to try those earlier versions of Duke. :)

I've had some of these Duke Nukem files in my 'to post' folder since I first sarted the project back in September 08. I'd actually forgotten how good these games are. I was only going to post the second vesion initially, but then because it's still the Easer Vacation period for some (lucky UK residents) I decided to add the other two in the trilogy. There are actually more titles available, but I've not checked to see if they are free or require a small fee. You can buy an pdated version of the 3D version called Duke Nukem 3D Atomic edition, which costs around $5 or $6. If you've got the cash pare it would be worth paying for hust to support the develper as they have been giving most of their files away for free for quite some time now; though it's not necessary with the three games I've detailed below as they are totally free. :)

The original Duke Nukem:

An incredible EGA game (VGA compatible) with large animated characters, and huge levels. Your mission is to stop Dr. Proton, a madman bent on ruling the world with his army of Techbots. As the irrepressible hero Duke Nukem, you'll chase Dr. Proton deep into the Earth, then to his lunar space station, and eventually into the Earth's nuclear ravished future.

Duke Nukem 2 (1.06Mb)

This is a follow up to the original classic plaformer/shooter Duke Nukem. I remember playing it for the first time and thinking it was the best game I’d payed to date. The graphics were marvellous for the time, and although they do look a little blocky by this new mileniums standards,it’s still a very playable platform game. Now you can own the second release for free. Wat’s more it’s been fixed so that it’ll play on Windows, thgh I can’t vouch for Vista at this time as I don’t have my copy installed.

The levels are quite large compared to the likes of recent releases such as Turtix. The levels are full of bonus containers, complicated jumps and monsters. You’re first enemies you encounter are actually humans and then a blob of green slime. Watch out because it can drop onto you from above and kills you very quickly.

This is a must have for those of you who are into retro games.

Duke Nukem 3D

Does blowing away enemies, destroying entire buildings, and shooting your way through an adult XXX store sound enjoyable? Then you'll love Duke 3D. (Note: There isn't actually anything X-rated in the game.) Uses the "Build" engine, which is still similar to the old Wolf3D engine in that there are no rooms on top of other rooms, but it's been tweaked and pushed to the max. Lots of fun! (Several people have emailed the author to comment that there ARE rooms-above-rooms in Duke3D. While the effect of rooms-above-rooms can be _simulated_ in Build, there are never really any rooms on top of other rooms in the game, and thus it's not truly 3D.)

though it's a pretty good rendition of a 3D environment. Despite haveing all of the latest FPS games I'll still be keeping this great game. It's fun to play, and in some ways more enjoyable than the almost real environment of games such as Crysis and COD: World at War.

See below for download link from the original developer. The first link below is a port of Duke Nukem 3d. Read the instructions and download either the self extract or zip file plus the 1.3d shareware data file. Install the first (self extracting or zip ) file to wherever you wish to place the game then install the shareware GRP file to the same folder. The latter file will try to install to the program files of the root directory, so be sure to change the path to the same directory as the first file you unpacked. (I unpacked the file to the desktop then manually placed it into my games folder, then set up the GRP file to install into the manually placed folder. I then created a shortcut to the desktop. The game won’t work without both files being combined. The game requires both mouse and keyboard controls. The mouse allows you to turn to 360 degrees. To shoot use Ctrl and to move use the cursor keys.. the left and right keys do the same as the x and y mouse axis.. The menus can be selected using both the cursor keys and the mouse. Using the LMB or enter will access a particular menu item to de-select use the esc key.. You can change all key bindings and your mouse. You can use up to a five button mouse with the game. This game plays fine on Win XP with service pack 3. I would appreciate feedback from those running Vista or other win platforms. Thank you.

In the top right hand side of the screen it says unregistered, but this is the full version as far as I know.
