XP Mode itself is only available in win7 Pro & Ultimate, though anyone can download & install the win7 Virtual PC host software, regardless the version of 7 you're running. Whether it's worth it or not is up to you -- most of my VMs are in V/Box, which I like better overall. Win7's VPC only works with pro or higher end versions of Windows as guests, e.g. no Vista or 7 HP & no XP Home. And the same VM guest runs better in V/Box. OTOH because of the way VPC uses remote desktop you don't have to do anything in order to see or share files/folders on any of your drives -- that part's definitely nice.

[For those who don't use VMs, a sometimes big challenge is getting files from your regular Windows into the VM &/or from the VM out to Windows. Microsoft's app lets you access everything from inside the VM -- VirtualBox lets you assign shared folders both the VM & Windows can access.]

As far as I know the win7's XP Mode VM is only available in the Professional Edition. I have the standard version.
Another reason for me to use VirtualBox is that I can use the VirtualBox XP on my Vista 32 machines. So I can swap klones ...

The virtual and the real machines share a couple of folders, that are synchronised with my other computers via DropBox.

Assuming you've got the disk space you don't really need Time Freeze And V/Box... I use win7's XP Mode VM as well as win7 32 & 64 bit in Virtual Box VMs. The virtual disk files with Windows on it can be copied/pasted just like any other files, so I just store copies somewhere else. That way I can do whatever I want to a VM, including re-starting Windows, then with the VM stopped, copy/paste the backup copy right over the .vhd or .vdi file and everything's as it was. V/Box lets you use .vhd virtual disk files, & if you use that format rather than Virtual Box's .vdi format you can also mount the .vhd files as regular disks -- that way you can also use something like Paragon backup if you prefer &/or are low on disk space.

Ik gebruik ook SandboxIE. Maar de giveaways test ik ook heel vaak in een XP in VirtualBox. Die virtuele XP laat ik bewaken door Toolwiz TimeFreeze. Zo bereik ik dat de virtuele XP na het voltooien van de test weer helemaal schoon opstart.

Met RegShot (freeware) kun je snapshots maken van je register en deze weer met een ander snapshot vergelijken. Soortgelijk aan SysTracer, maar dan alleen voor je register.

Total Uninstall, programma om geïnstalleerde programma's later volledig te kunnen verwijderen.
Het maakt een snapshot voorafgaande aan de installatie en nog eentje nadat de installatie voltooid is. Het slaat alle veranderingen (bestanden en register waardes) op om later te kunnen verwijderen. Tegenwoordig shareware, echter heb op mijn site nog de laatste freewareversie beschikbaar.

Eigenlijk is sandboxie toch nog iets anders. Namelijk als ik het tenminste goed begrepen heb moet je gewoon je zandbox leegmaken en de software is volledig verwijdert. Terwijl je het bij Systracer nog manueel moet doen. De vraag is dan of het dan zo makkelijk is de te verwijderen is hiermee bedoel ik met software die ad of spyware bevat.

Volgens mij is systracer ook nog een wat uitgeklede PRO versie, jammer.

Mijn alternatief, daar is tie weer: sandboxie. Je installeert een programma in de zandbak en je kunt vervolgens alles dat prog softje heeft uitgespookt op je PC in die speeltuin zandbak terugvinden. Ook wat er in het register is gewijzigd. Sandboxie bewaart die tijdelijk op een aparte plaats in het register, todat je de zandbak weer leeg kiepert en alle sporen van de installatie weer zijn verwijderd. Die plaats in het register: HKEY_USERS\Sandbox_Gebruiker_Naam_DefaultBox. (Defaultbox is de standaard zandbaknaam, maar je kunt ook meerdere zandbakken aanmaken). Zo kun je dus eerst software uitproberen. Niet alle software (een klein percentage) laat zich overigens installeren in sandboxie.
