I downloaded the Advanced Biorhythms back in August and have been using it. Today, it told me that it was an evaluation copy and that I had to upgrade to continue to use it. What's wrong?

Maybe GAOTD needs to explain the concept to the vendors because Elprime stated this was offered for a limited time only, ie evaluation copy.

Or maybe GAOTD needs to tell the users when a program is only good for a certain amount of time.

Or maybe GAOTD needs to stop giving away evaluation copies and promising "free forever".

The key is time stamped so the author knows full well when it will blow-up.

Re-entering key and username makes it work again, however on closing and opening it becomes brown bread.

So a time stamped key, looks like a 5$ discount might be a good offer especially as it becomes $12 registered which means updates and technical support for a year.

I am also curious when something like this happens, does GAOTD contact the program vendor to see why the program no longer works and do they try to arrange another free version? What steps does GAOTD take, if any, when this happens (it seems to happen often).

I checked and am getting the same thing. I contacted Elprime and was told this was only an evaluation copy and that at no time did they intend to give their program away for free to users here. They offered me a $5 discount off the normal $17 registration fee. hahaha. No thanks.

I tried mine and got the same message. The first thing I do after a download from GOTD is check to make sure it's registered. It definitely was. To add insult to injury, I had to re-boot to get rid of the message box. This is why I'm a firm believer in buying any giveaways that are worth the price and are something I need or want, rather than counting on the no upgrade/no tech support version to last forever. Tough to gripe about something free as long as it doesn't harm my computer or anything on it. Although it sucks when you're told you're getting the full registered version and it turns out you're not.
That said, I wouldn't pay $17 to register what was basically a toy in the first place. And it destroys any faith I had in Elprime.

Lee,

Thanks for your "clue". Unfortunately, after a week, I don't see any evidence that any of the "screamers" are paying attention (their loss). I appreciate you going out on a limb to try to help them (and the rest of us!) out. If you remember, I'm the one who wrote in initially to try to head off the problem when AWC first sent out notice of the available update (about a week ago).

So now, for those of us who have waited for the definitive answer (i.e. haven't downloaded, uninstalled, deleted or overwritten anything!), could someone who has negotiated these waters successfully please offer a step-by-step to update to the new version? I'm sure there are many who would appreciate it. (Lee, I'm guessing that your "fix" begins after the new program has been installed ... ?)

Thanks again!

I think a clue could be found from what I am about to write.

This program changes a file deeply embeded in windows system files that holds your registration details for the program.

It's not stored in the registry.

So reboot your computer and reinstall the program, make sure it's closed and any instances of it are closed in task manager and reinstall it again and it should work again.

When a computer says that I usually think the program is crap. Maybe it did something it wasn't supposed to do, that is what I am guessing. I am not an iobit fan and there are many other great utilities out there.

http://www.pctools.com/newsletter/offers/ (Pc Tools is still offering for free for those who subscribe to their newsletter) They also offer Spyware Doctor Starter Edition and that can be downloaded from http://pack.google.com for free. For registry TweakNow Registry Cleaner Standard http://www.tweaknow.com/RegCleaner.html

I don't use any of those programs though I did at one time. Good programs, I use Mcafee Virusscan Plus Msn Version (the new version) . It has antivirus, firewall, antispyware, quickclean all in one. I also use the Msn Webroot Antispyware (they fixed that subscription problem I was having with them a couple weeks/months ago) They did something, I don't know what, but it works fine.

If you need a good free antivirus Antivir is great.

http://free-av.com/

The only complaint I had with that antivirus is it became hard to update and sometimes wouldn't update for a couple of days.

Huh. Yeah, really dumb stunt, but the real tick-me-off was after I gave up and tossed it off the hdd. see the end of the post for that one....

90 days or one auto-update, that's what it did to me. Not that I really care, had it a couple days and never got into the 'what it did' at all- fired it up a few days after the giveaway and it blared out the 'update available' spiel.

Like a d****d fool I said OK, and was sent directly to trial. do not pass go, forget the nickel. (the one GAOTD had me download was .901 when I looked, the update was .902, and nothing *I* could figure out brought it back)

So I nuked it all, downloaded the personal version and maybe will reinstall it.

also I sort of agree with the post on the download page saying

"This is NOT free… licence expires in 3 months. Not impressed!"

As the page had the full price listed, while the 'free' account was 1/4 the length of the standard rental-for-updates (and, since the updates eat that....) and when I uninstalled it I got a page offering the *same* period for a 'trial' for *free* well after the install date was gone....

Nope, whatever good points this might have, I didn't have a chance to find them.

Well, after speaking with iObit support, it seems that when I uninstalled the personal version, which I had been using, this caused the pro version to become unregistered. Normally, the remedy is to simply reenter your registration information. Since this was a one day deal only, there isn't anything they will do for me, so I am back to using the personal version.

Folks, if you have the personal version DO NOT uninstall it. This should have been mentioned somewhere on the information page concerning this issue.

Also, after starting the program, it connected to the internet and reverted to 2.4.1.901 with an exp date of 12/07. It was version .902 before. I assume this change is what caused the trial to kick in?????

Ok, this program became unregistered today, 06/06/07. Anyone else? When I open the program it asks for the license code and after scanning it says it is a trial version and can't fix the errors. Not real happy here.

Might be a little late now, but this program will automatically uninstall previous versions before installing.

I'd just wanted to thank GOTD for the opportunity to download AWCpro!!! It is very FAST! It doesn't seem to very much CPU at all, and its ease of use is spectacular! The mods in this forum are right, being able to get free updates & upgrades like that (especially off a giveaway) for that long (09-04-07) is just about unheard of. My favorite tool out of it is the registry cleaner. I have used other reg cleaners before (usually 'stand-alones'), but they were not very user friendly. All of AWC is a breeze!
