http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/chrome-plugins-access-all-data-browsing-activity/

Why Do Chrome Plugins Need Access To ‘All My Data’ and ‘Browsing Activity’?

chrome plugin privacy If you’ve installed Chrome plugins, you’ve probably seen a warning that they can access your data on all websites, your tabs and browsing activity, or even all the data on your computer. This warning can be scary, especially if you’re installing a simple browser extension that looks harmless.

Chrome has a permissions system, just like Android does. Unfortunately, the way web browsers and web pages work means that extensions must ask for quite a few permissions to do simple things. Chrome’s permissions system is not particularly fine-grained.
Plugin Permissions

Unlike Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer, both of which allow extensions to do anything they want, Chrome uses a permission system for its extensions. All Chrome plugins must declare the permissions they need. When you install a plugin, you’ll see a list of the permissions it requires. This gives you some idea of what a plugin can do. For example, if an extension doesn’t require any permissions, it’s definitely safe to install. If an extension requires permission to access all the data on your computer, you should be sure the extension was created by someone you trust.

Google has no way of knowing whether an extension that manipulates the pages you visit is doing something innocuous, like picking a color, or doing something more dangerous, such as spying on your credit card number and payment information.

Two years ago, I reported from the Kiwicon security conference in New Zealand about the insecurity of many internet kiosks.
employment services throughout New Zealand.
New Zealand public-access kiosk SNAFU gives public access to intimate personal information

http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/7815266/WINZ-kiosk-security-flaw-exposed

WINZ kiosk security flaw exposed
Ministry of Social Development officials were alerted to a major security flaw at its Work and Income kiosks over a year ago, a beneficiary advocate says.

The kiosks were shut down last night and a ministry investigation has been launched after blogger Keith Ng reported that he was able to access thousands of files on the agency's servers from the computers in a Wellington WINZ office.

He said he walked into a WINZ kiosk and was able to open files including sensitive case notes, names of children in care and up for adoption, foster parents, lists of people who owed MSD money, details of contract workers and how much they were paid, and the name of a person who had attempted suicide.

However, Kay Brereton, from Beneficiary Advocacy Federation, this morning told Radio New Zealand the discovery was nothing new.

She said she had tested the kiosks not long after they were introduced and found people could get into the ministry's system.

http://publicaddress.net/onpoint/

22:00 Oct 14, 2012
MSD's Leaky Servers

My jeans were torn, my hoodie was pretty ragged, and I hadn't shaved for a week. It turned out that bloggers are remarkably good at disguising themselves as unemployed, without even trying.

Last week, I got tipped-off that the parts of the MSD network were completely exposed to the public. You could go into any WINZ office and use their self-service kiosks to access their corporate network.

These locked-down kiosks are provided so you could look for jobs online, send off CVs etc. They've had some basic features disabled, which supposedly meant that you couldn't just open up File Manager and poke around the machine. However, by just using the Open File dialogue in Microsoft Office, you could map any unsecured computer on the network, and then open up any accessible file.

This basically means you can grab any file that wasn't bolted down on the network, while standing in the middle of a WINZ office. And that's what I did.

Normally, they aren't that exciting. Except that WINZ name their files quite well. For example:

    s:\SharedData\wi_wites\Waikato\HAM\Fraud Investigations\[Name of investigator]\[Name of WINZ client] 23 Jun 2011 Case 640026-10.WMA

Well it seemed there was a server problem - everything appears to be working ok now.

The Game site is definitely working (at this moment).

I believe the way GOTD treat a day as a 24 hour period - that finishes at the same time for any given location each day. Thanks to Murphy - not all giveaways will start "on the dot" and sometimes they may be unavailable due to technical gremlins or not enough candy. But the time "remaining" is caculated based on the usual "finish time".

Having each giveaway finish on the same hour each day for any location makes it easier to predict when a new giveaway is due (some places it might be midnight, other places it might be 6pm - but it is the same time for that location each day).

Hi there, sbacc.
Could you be more specific, please, about what is not working? There are a number of points in the process of installing and registering where you might be having problems and it would be helpful to know where you can get to before the process stops working properly.
For example, can you receive the email but not get the licence to work? Is your email program not receiving the Nagasoft email at all? Are you able to send an email to Nagarsoft at all?

When I first start the game, I see a series of screens.
1. Small screen stating "Press Del to enter setup". If I press Delete I see another small menu flash briefly then "ERROR! Memory access violation" and it shuts down.
2. If I ignore #1 it disappears and another showing "Converting Textures" loads for about 40 seconds.
3. Then I see a box with "Auto Configuration" before the game screen comes up.

The program gave me the same "ERROR! Memory access violation" message when I moved my mouse and shut it down multiple times as I looked through the menu and explored the CONTROLS and HELP sections. I decided to just try PLAY, and it shut down again repeatedly after each game without option to play again or continue. I uninstalled and reinstalled but it acted the same way. I tried the F5-8 DEBUG KEYS in the help menu but got no additional screen to follow instructions.

I don't know enough about what makes things tick but I looked this up:

Acer Incorporated CPU
AMD Sempron Processor 3200+
1.00 GHz, 1.43 GB of RAM
OS Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
I use Mozilla Firefox.

It has been interesting to explore software that doesn't work for me and try to convey the problem to you. There is a desire to give as much feedback as I can, but I don't have the technical vocabulary perhaps. I hope this has been helpful.

~~~Since I spent a lot of time re-starting this game(20-25 times)to give it a chance, I include the rest of my review for those interested~~
These graphics aren't sophisticated, but once you adjust the perspective with the camera controls (follow HELP then RULES from the main menu) you can predict where the food falls without much difficulty.  Your task then is to catch vegetables and meat for a specific "recipe" shown on the screen while avoiding the candy, soap, bugs and(OMG)prescription drugs which can fall into your soup.  There are 2 sudden death poisoned mushrooms and a grenade.  Some items have look-alikes (eggs vs. soap) to keep you on your toes.  The concept of the game is amusing and I chuckled out loud at the visual the first time I lost.
I have a few suggestions for the developers:
1.  Grenades come far too quickly early in the first game.  Let the player get used to deciding which items are still needed for their soup before they are faced with a screen full of sudden death items, caterpillars, chocolate bars and eyeballs.
2.  A pause after each life lost would also be nice, letting the player check their progress and see which vegetables are still needed for their soup.
3.  Each time a new game started, I had to adjust the camera angle.  Could that be saved until the player changes?  The program saves my name(sound, video etc.) from game to game so I believe saving other settings is possible.
I couldn't play more than one game at a time without a restart.  That said, I had to uninstall due to technical difficulties which I'll take to forums.
Awwww gee I wish I could get this to work on my computer.
On the other hand, there is a new version of NotesHolder out, so I have a slightly better NH now, and I'm also entitled to any 1.x version that comes out. Also, NotesHolder is just 14.95$.
Another great app is Flashpaste, which I might go for next.
Hey folks.
Remember that you are missing the point here. This whole thing isn't about making anything for free. It is about advertising the shareware producer and their product.
If they would give it for another day, think how much the shareware producer will loose in cash. I think that Shareware-Making companies won't allow that. And, there was a question somewhere else, here in the forum, about MS Office 2007...
Well, it is funny idea! Microsoft would never agree to that. And remember that GAOTD team is only asking for the software... Only if the autor (company, vendor...) agrees, (only in that case) we find that software as a free giveaway here. And only then!
Oh, and one more thing: Another point of this site is exactly what ND has done! He tried the full version of the software, he liked it and he BOUGHT a license!!!
That is the whole point why the software developers give their titles as a FREE giveaways...
I would also like to see it as well, for being a beta tester and one to have to on a regular basis, have to uninstall and reinstall programs on a regular basis.
Even if there was a way to register or keep the code to be able to re-install it a second or third time.
Another reason I beleive that it would help is that like some people, I download a program and may forget to install it that very day. I know that is why there is a Giveaway to begin with, but maybe given us a few days to install the program.
I am sure that the vendors that use your service, would be receptive (or I at least I would hope so).
I've been pushing for this idea in the comments. One rerun a week in addition to a new software, and let people during the week vote for which one from a list (which includes only software the vendors have agreed can be rerunned, and no software older than three months since its original apperance.)
Only one program in 7 will be rerunned, while all programs get some extra exposure by virtue of being part of the list to vote from.
Btw, I'm going to buy a license to NotesHolder soon. I probably never would have heard of it if it hadn't been for GAotD.
Just playing devils advocate - but if there is such demand for the program and peoples interest in a program is now so great as a result of the (very clever imho) advertising/promotion/giveaway (whatever you want to call it) - then surely at this point, the developer of the software would feel that this is the "payback stage" of the promotion where people who want the program so much (maybe through word of mouth advertising) will actually go to the developers site and register a copy. After all that was probably the whole point of providing the software for a one day promotion in the first place.
If the developer just wanted to make the software "occasionally free" - then they may as well just make it freeware on their own site, and people could get it whenever they wanted.
(You could try to contact the developer/company and see if they are willing to give you  their product for free, because you missed it yesterday. It's probably not very likely - but you never know)
I agree that there have been a few days I have missed that I wished I didn't. But if I was a developer I'd may prefer that there was a limit (time-wise) to how much I gave away, so that there was a potential for future sales or promotional value that my software had.
(Finally I think it is fair to say that only a small percentage of people who download the programs - vote, leave a comment, or read the forums. The fact that there were 80 comments made against a program - really cannot reflect the number of downloads).
It may not be the sort of thing GOTD want to make public - but it might be interesting to see either in real-time or on the following day - a count of how many copies were downloaded during the 24 hour period. Maybe that is a better indicator of how popular each program is (although some people will download something not because it is any good, just because it is free).
I don't think they'll do it but I've been hoping for the same thing.
-Maybe they could have 'Weekend Specials' where they start to revisit old givaways; like '5' a day [Fri.,Sat.,Sun.] ?? ,, --['just dreaming'..]-- !  :)
Hi!
I think that you should consider giving access to all older programs/ games once again, so people could get software they missed. If you look at the number of comments on each gift, you will see that there wasn't many people around here at first weeks. So it would be fair to developers too.
