You can simply prevent this from happening by spending some time pondering over the terms and conditions mentioned in the FAQ. And one should develop a habit of deleting temporary files and caches from time to time even if there is no such problem there.

Hi Gak, please excuse the latish reply (3 days after you asked the question). I know it's too late for that particular software, but the following may come in handy in future if you have the same problem. I've been rather busy of late, so didn't see your question till now.

All giveaways are for full version software. The giveaway team have never given away a demo/trial of any software. Activation procedures do vary from software to software. some will automatically register when you click on the orange colored key set up file, others may require an activation code, and yet others come with an activation key separate to the set up file. Some activation codes can be found in the read me, others you have to visit the developers site and give them names and emails, then they will send you an activation code. You must download and install all giveaways on the day it is live.

Firstly check out the following links, all of which may answer the question you posed:

FAQ's 1

FAQ's 2

FAQ's 3

The last one is aimed at the gaming community, but is just as valid for the applications side of the project.

I've had the same problem previously. The following may either explain or solve the problem:

1) ... Your security software is blocking the activation process - either configure it to accept giveaways or temporarily turn off the security. I'd try the first option forst. If you do decide to turn off your security, you do so at your own risk.

2) ... Try rebooting your modem

3) ... Clear out your intenet cache (if you're not sure how to do this Google it, I'd need to post details of how to do it for each operating system as each may vary slightly)

4) ... Try again later

Also check out THIS thread.

Hi,

I hope I've come to the right forum! Anyway, I've just downloaded AmoyShare Photo Collage Maker 4.1.2

Problem is when I register this software with the registration key provided. I checked to see if I had successfully registered the product. I hadn't. I got a message saying I had a 15 day trial. So I tried to register it again. And again. And again and again. Every time I registered the software and opened the program to see the registration status I found I only had a 15 day trial.

Can you tell me if this giveaway is only a 15 day trial? Or am I messing up the registration process?

Might I suggest that in general you state for every GiveawayOfTheDay product if the software is good for all time or is only being offered for a limited period e.g. a one year license. It would be a great help when deciding whether or not to download one of your daily offerings.

Thanks for anything you tell me.

Cheers, thanks for the links.

I did try all that was suggested in the FAQ; I cleared all caches, temp folders, etc; totally disabled firewall/antivirus, as well as Windows 7 security features(crazy me), and still had no luck. Missed the giveaway :(

Anyway, I thought it may be something wrong with my system so I enabled all my security, downloaded the latest giveaway(even though I don't want it) and it installed immediately, no problems. Strange!

I'd be interested in knowing whether the 'Setup.exe' could conflict with specific systems if not compiled correctly. For instance, whether the problem may have been specific to a Windows 7(x64) system?

Hey all,

Whats up with the ‘Setup.exe’ files for today’s giveaways? Both TipardMODConverter and BrickshooterEgypt return an Activation message stating, ‘Failed to connect. Please try again later’. It has been over 3 hours and still the same problem persists no matter what I try.

I’ve been a GOTD user for many months and have never experienced this problem.

I see many have downloaded and successfully installed both. Anyone else having the same problem? Any suggested solutions?

Regards

http://server.iad.liveperson.net/hc/s-28464961/cmd/kbresource/kb-6341657529542742174/view_question!PAGETYPE?sf=101133&documentid=347125&action=view

If these steps do not fix the problem, then you will most likely need to set
your Internet Security to Medium.
that you do NOT have any protocols blocked that are required for your
connection (for more specific information, see your network administrator).

1) Turn Gaming Mode on in ZoneAlarm (Try this fist)

Right Click the ZA icon in the System tray.

Select Game Mode.

Solution:

The Privacy settings in ZoneAlarm may be blocking some features that this
website needs to work properly, such as cookies, pop-ups and mobile code.

Please understand by disabling the privacy settings, you are not disabling
the firewall, it is only disabling the added feature of blocking cookies and
Now it will work.

It's amazing that this has been a problem for so many people for seven months now, and still there's no solution???

To be honest, the problem that some users can't download or install or activate or use a programme is even older than 7 months. Fact is, that most of the thousands of users every day don't have severe or long lasting problems otherwise the site would be down since a long time.

So, NO ONE has figured out why some systems just won't install the darn program and others will??
And I guess there's no technical know-how & support from the actual operators of the Giveawayoftheday site??

Thinking of the fact that every system is unique, what form should the support take? Should the GOTD team check every system of all the thousands of users?

Like WR wrote in the other thread, the fault and the solution is on your site.

"Failed to connect. Please try again later."

It's amazing that this has been a problem for so many people for seven months now, and still there's no solution???

My situation is this: the Giveaway programs ALWAYS install fine on three of my computers but NEVER install on a 4th (my main computer, actually) one.

Doesn't matter which one downloads the program, it's always the same. Of course I've tried turning off ZoneAlarm and antivirus programs, etc. but nothing helps.

The OS of the one that does NOT install the program is XP Pro, SP3. But one of the other ones that DOES work is also the same OS. The other OSs are Vista and Win7; these work also.

So, NO ONE has figured out why some systems just won't install the darn program and others will??

And I guess there's no technical know-how & support from the actual operators of the Giveawayoftheday site??

jacampbelljr - this forum is run by the members rather than GOTD itself. They're not heavily engaged with what we do here. One of the forum members might take you up on looking at your activate, but probably not. These problem's are usually external to the wrapper. If you want feedback directly from GOTD, you need to go to the bottom of the GOTD page and click the contact link. Although, I'm not sure they'll respond to this one. It's very likely on your end, since so many didn't experience problems with it.

This issue has been dealt with many, many times in these forums. If you type something like "won't activate" in the search box you can see dozens and dozens of threads with dozens and dozens of suggestions as to how to procede if this happens in the future. Of course, there are some suggestions right above your post.

Sometimes the problem is solved by using other download sources. Often, if people aren't getting a good download from the main link, they'll try the mirror link and they'll get a good one. Also, people have been able to get good downloads from the foreign language pages. GOTD has a bunch of them. You can see the drop down language menu right at the top of the page. Don't worry about the software then defaulting to the other language. The developer controls that and, as far as I know, only sends down one version. So it's either already in English or let's you select one of the languages it supports.

Good luck in the future!

My post yesterday was ignored/deleted by the moderator?! I had a problem with the activate.exe with the HD Video Converter program yesterday. I was at work and thought it was due to the company firewall, but turns out it may have been a faulty download, since it didn’t work at home either. (Should have done like others in the past and deleted and re-downloaded.) Anyway, disappointed that the moderator didn’t post my comment or reply with the “Try again” suggestion before this offer expired – wouldn't you know it seems like it was the first one I really wanted in days. BTW, developer wasn’t much help either, just kept giving me the instructions to “click activate first, then install”. Gee, really! I know the offer has expired, but not sure why the activate.exe doesn't give me that response - still gives "Failed to connect." Is it worth me sending you the activate.exe file so you can compare it to the original? That way we can rule in or our if it was a download/unzip problem. Thanks!!
BTW, the file size for the Activate.exe is: 996 KB (1,020,700 bytes)

I really think bems done all that, hotdoge. Not all problems are on the user's end. Not all problems are even easily solveable.

I would recommend anyone having problems that no reasonable advice has fixed to contact GOTD directly. A lot of times it's on the user end, but your example indicates that there may be a problem on their end, too. Many folks here suggested that the email problem was on the users end, when it clearly could not have been. I'd say most of the connection problems are on the user end, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are also problems on the GOTD side. After all, they've had documented problems of server congestion to get to the main page or to download that were CLEARLY on their end. I hope it works out, or you can work it out.

Thought I'd weigh in with a follow-up to my problems with activation. Just as suddenly as they began, they suddenly went away. All tips and tricks suggested regarding changes to my computer were of no avail, except to mess with the bulk of my surfing. Put all back to it's usual tweaked state, no difference. Only occasional connections for key validation.

Lo and behold, one day (about 2 weeks ago) I could validate anytime the offer was good, almost as fast as I could ping the server. Its been that way ever since, knock on wood-grain vinyl.

As I said at the beginning, I think this is great site and I am now as before grateful for the freebietunities that come my way. Only thing that still rankles is the lack of any weigh-in on the part of the only people who might have had any real insight, even to say "We don't know." I'll never know what happened/unhappened to me, only that it was external to my house. I didn't cause it, I couldn't cure it, it just is/was.

I just installed it on Vista 64bit. I didn't bother with admin rights this time for the decompiler since there wasnt an activation box.
I think this is your firewall blocking it. I was trying out zonealarm pro awhile back and was having an issue with it blocking things I wanted to let through. I even tried shutting it down like you did, but it was to no avail. I ended up uninstalling it.
I had better luck with comodo, but right now I am using Bitdefender. I managed to get a free copy of internet security. Don't use their total security, it sucks.

You can try uninstalling zonealarm and see if thats the problem. I know it sucks, but you'll find out if thats the problem. If it isn't then you know something else is the problem.

Using admin rights are not necessary for every application.

Congrats with you new laptop...
In Vista you not only have to be an administer, but you also might need to run the activate or setup.exe (depending on the program) as one ,by right clicking on it and selecting run as administrator.
But you probably did try that.
Also today's program was updated (look for #25 by the Giveaway of the Day project team on the comments page).
