But now my latest DVD's are un-copyable because Hollywood has changed their copy-protect software once again.
Take it up with Hollywood or you PM as they don't have a right to do this as you are allowed to make one back up

So it is fair that a developer would have to work to develop updates for free - forever? One day when you have financial obligations and have to work for a living, you might think different.

Providing support and upgrades to the world for free doesn't feed the developers family or pay their bills. Become a customer if you want to receive support and updates from the developer.

For ungrateful users who expect the world for nothing - every giveaway does come with a 30 day money back guarantee on the full purchase price - just send the receipt to the developer.

You guys are missing my point on this one. This is not a photo editor, a document writer, a game program, which you can continue to use for it's original purpose as a free downloaded program like most of what is here on GOTD.

The only DVD's that this software will allow you to burn copies of, is OLD DVD's made at least 5 years ago. I was able to save 1 of my DVD's which was purchased back in 2009----that's it! All the rest have what the software maker has termed newer copyright protection. I only downloaded this software a short while back, but this so-called NEW standard has been in effect for the past 2 years!

Why wasn't it included in the version we all downloaded from GOTD????

Just looks like "Bait n' Switch" to me.....

I evaluate new software releases, and submit reviews for other college researchers. I didn't even get a chance to see if it works on a majority of the DVD's in my collection because the developers failed to disclose that it doesn't include protection overides for DVD's that were made in 2009-2012.

WHAT A CROCK!!!

godawgs,

GOTD terms are very clearly written (up front) prior to downloading of offered software programs. There are absolutely no updates/upgrades (with few exceptions) included with GOTD downloads.
Thus, if you download programs from GOTD, you are explicitly agreeing to these limited terms.
Also, as StevieD says, if you find these programs useful, then you should consider supporting the developers and buying their upgraded programs. It's as simple as that - as nobody is entitled to upgrades simply because they feel it's their God-given right.

Erm, I may be missing something here, but you have not lost any of the functionality from the original install, which you have been using for several months, and surely, if you find it that useful and it's newer versions do more and you want that functionality also then you should buy the program? Again, the functionality of the program does not hinge on the updates, but the scope is broadened by them to include new features and capabilities.
I have bought a few full versions of programs that I've trialed from GOTD, and removed many more from my system as they were not, for whatever reason, what I was looking for. Surely THAT is the spirit of this website, to enable us to try various software for an extended period (sometimes even 'forever') but also without any updates or tech support (which again, some suppliers are still happy to provide).

I was happy to see WinX DVD Copy Pro available for download on Giveaway of the Day several months ago. I needed a way to make copies of all my DVD's since they don't last forever and eventually they stop playing. But now my latest DVD's are un-copyable because Hollywood has changed their copy-protect software once again. WinX DVD Copy Pro has updated their program to handle this issue, but now everyone who installed the PRO version from Giveaway of the Day is being directed back to their website, told to UN-REGISTER their Pro version, download the new version AND PAY for it!

What good is a so-called Free Full Pro Version of a program, if every other month you are forced to UPGRADE to a PAID version!!!

ADVICE TO GIVEAWAY OF THE DAY: Stop posting all offers from software manufacturers who know the functionality of their so-called PRO PRODUCTS, hinges on regular updates (and who don't provide those PRO UPDATES for free)

While they cover themselves from FALSE ADVERTISING by use of their disclaimer document for Giveaway of the Day users, they VIOLATE the SPIRIT of this website's purpose!!!

Until you change this policy---Giveaway of the Day = USELESS!!![u]
