These are some great links. I didn't realize that I needed anything to help organize my bookmarks. This is because I had no idea any of these nifty programs and add-ons existed until VampireRat brought up the query. Thanks everyone! :)

None of these are straight out bookmark/favorites organizers but they assist me somewhat in the task.

Faview--- http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/faview.html This program allows me to choose the firefox bookmarks that I want to export instead of having to export them all. I In effect, it allowed me to choose and organize my most favorite bookmarks onto one page. I export mine into an html file, then open it in a web editor and gussy it up as the export file isn't too pretty. I then bookmark the edited page. It helps me visually to see groups of bookmarks on a page (as if I were viewing groups of links on someone's website) instead of in a drop down folder in my bookmarks. I also use it to export out certain groups of bookmarks that I want to keep a record of but don't want to keep in my Bookmarks anymore. Faview is a standalone program and works with IE Favorites or Firefox Bookmarks. It's not perfect but it's the only thing I found that let me choose the bookmarks I wanted to export. If anyone knows of another program that performs that function, could you post it here?

I love the Bookmark Duplicate Detector listed above, it has saved me from putting so many duplicate bookmarks into my firefox Bookmarks as it lets me know that the bookmark is a duplicate when I am trying to add it.

Another one that assists somewhat in my organization is PlainOldFavorites addon for firefox. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/668 It adds a 'Favorites' menu to firefox where you can directly view all your favorites in IE without opening it up (and also, when using with Bookmark Duplicate Detector, it keeps me from adding the same bookmark to IE and firefox which I was prone to do.) I mostly use firefox but I still often run across pages and forms that won't work correctly in firefox and I have to view in IE. Instead of having to open up IE and copy/paste the URL right then and there, I can add it to the 'Favorites' menu (which is located right next to 'Bookmarks' on my firefox menu bar). Then, when I get a chance to go to IE, it's right there on the 'Favorites' menu in IE also.

If you are a frequent user of google's services, there is a firefox add-on menu button called Gbutts that lists all the links to google's services in a drop down menu outside of the Bookmarks folder. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3576 That keeps me from having to dig through my Bookmarks folders to get to any google page I'd like, and settings in Gbutts allow you to choose which google links you'd like displayed and how you'd like them displayed. Of course, you might not need this if you use google's toolbar.

For those that like visual organization, there's speedial addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5721 which puts previews/thumbnails of your favorites on one page. I didn't care too much for it myself though I thought I would, but others might like it.

EDIT: I just went to the page, it is for two or more computers running Firefox! Which is why I bookmarked it, I have 3.

It is also great even if you only have one computer - the way it works as soon as you add, change, or delete a bookmark - it updates a backup on the foxmarks server. So you can go between your PCs or between home and work/school and your bookmarks are always current and up-to-date.

No more need to keep updating your bookmarks on a usb thumb disc each time you move to a new PC.

Also if your PC crashes and you lose your hard disk - you always have a backup on the foxmarks server. I've also had cause to need to use a public computer on the internet at my local library - I can bring up all my bookmarks through "myMarks" web interface of FoxMarks.

"Have bookmarks, will travel".

Actually, the Amigo app looks interesting and appears to address another issue for me. It allows you to save a favorite in more than one folder at the same time. It says it also shows you the ports you have open. I haven't used it yet, but it may have potential, thanks.

In IE7, some Microsoft genius decided to take away the option of having your favorite folders unexpanded, as you were able to do in previous versions. For those of us with hundreds or possibly over a thousand favorites, this is a nightmare, as when you are adding to favorites, you might have to page several times to see under which folder category you were adding. I am hoping that one of these suggested bookmark programs will help with this problem. Thanks in advance!

I haven't tried any of these so I can't tell you well any of them work. Actually I didn't even realize there was such a thing. I may have try a couple out. If you find something you like how about coming back and posting your thoughts. This is the search results for bookmark organizers from Source Forge.net.

EDIT
After taking a closer look at some of the program descriptions, it appears that most of these are for use online and for blogs. :(

Couldn't find this topic already discussed, and it was brought up in another thread. It is something that interests me, so I thought I'd give it it's own thread so I could find it easier.

In a brief mention in another thread, "maiseydaze" said:
Alas, my bookmarks are not always so organized. This was an afterthought, but for now my music folder looks better. I use the Firefox "Organize Bookmarks" feature. It's very nice, as it allows you to input a description and keywords for each link from the properties window. You can also export your bookmarks to a HTML document, Import your IE favorites and sort in a variety of different ways. It's way better than what IE has to offer.

Anyone have separate software for this? I have a whopper of a Bookmarks file.

maybe it would work, if you have a restoration point?

I have used it since it was a gaotd twice and not once has it asked for me to update it.

Strange.

You could always check the listing at gaotd and see if they have a special price for gaotd users.

Unless you can find the old version to reinstall - you may need to buy it (as long as you are happy to do that). Alternatively, you could wait in the hope the GOTD might offer the software again (but that may never happen).

At least buying it - you will get all the upgrades, and your program will still be registered and working after you install them.
