To anyone who has tried IE8: When you add to favorites, are you able to expand and/or shrink the favorites list? Not being able to shrink segments (subfolders) of the list has been a real pain in IE7, when you have huge favorite lists.

I'm surprised all you guys & gals talking about IE8 seem to still be using IE6--& even with some problems, not to mention missing out on the additional features IE7 has. If you add-on IE7Pro, it's almost as good as Firefox. Oh well, to each his or her own. I just don't understand why someone who uses IE all the time would not want to have IE7. I know some companies wanted to stay with IE6 for consistency, but why anyone else...?
BTW, IE8 is apparently not included in XPsp3, FWIW (and a bow to Buffalo Springfield). Speaking of which, I took the plunge and installed sp3 RC2 on my XP Pro and I am happy as...well, never mind, I'm just happy, since it cured my intermittent internet problem and sped up loading of Add/Remove Programs, among other things, it's faster than ever. Thanks for the info on Autopatcher; I'm really glad to hear it's actually back online.

I only use IE6 also.

And I pick and choose what I want to download as Windows Updates. I use AutoPatcher http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/11/26/autopatcher-is-back/ "Once upon a time, AutoPatcher was the go to program for downloading and installing Windows Updates without connecting to Microsoft's servers. Say you've got a bunch of PCs that you need to update and you don't want to take the time to connect each to the internet and download updates one by one. Just use AutoPatcher, download the latest updates, burn the results to a CD and carry it from computer to computer.

But a few months back Microsoft effectively shut down the AutoPatcher project, saying that you could only install Windows Updates from Windows servers. Now it's BACK! . :)

I just keep it on a DVD/CD click on the update; let it update, then click on Autopatcher exe and let it tell me what I need. Then I decided WHAT is installed. Quick, easy and painless. And if perchance, someone 's PC crashes you can help. Instead of waiting for hours downloading it all from MS, you got all the updates on CD/DVD. Free for XP or 2000.

However it's mainly 95% of all updates since SP2.

Using the Emulate IE7 mode allows me to view pages exactly like I used to in IE7.

Ok Everyone,

I downloaded and installed IE 8 Bata1. As you can see I got to this forum so it must work ok. It looks a lot like IE7 with a few changes. Mostly cosmetic. Kind of like Vista vs. XP. For example in the address bar all of the address looks grayed out except for the domain name of the site you are visiting. When you click in the address bar all the address goes back to looking normal so you can select it. I has a new tool that will allow you to view the html, css, and any scripts that make up the page you are viewing from the toolbar. It also has made the Favorites button a little bit larger. It does not always display pages exactly the way IE7 does. For example although this page looks normal the home page for these forums has everything right aligned. Kind of funny looking. It is still readable but it looks a little weird. So far Juno seems to crash the browser. Will have to try again. One other feature it has it the ability to Emulate IE7. Have not tried this yet but I may have to if I have trouble getting to any of the sites I visit often. For those of you that have the Google tool bar it still works in IE8. So does the IE7 Pro add-on. There are probably some other differences but those are the ones I have noticed so far.

win2k is still chugging along, so although I miss out on some things (yesterday's gaotd, boo hoo) I don't have to put up with M$ spiteware.

IE 6 seems to be getting a little unstable. Maybe this is M$ doing away with any support for it! I did a download check today. I only allow the most critical updates to pass thru! Then I get reminded I have one Hidden, lol, IE 7 !!!!!

I stick with the lowest version of IE programs will allow (6, alas) and the only thing I use it for is changing settings in my router.

firefox is all I allow on the 'net.

Not going to try it yet, till I sort out xpsp3 then maybe if my bank allows the use of it, then not a problem.

I will let you try it first, lol!
