Bummer, that's a shame.

I haven't checked my E-mails yet. Still I'll check out the bundle. when I finally get my compensation i may even be able to afford another large outlay (I bought CS when it frst came out as I'd loved the earlier version PS7) That was the most I'd ever spent on a software package; but in my opinion money well spent as to do the same stuff with traditional photography wold have cost many thousands (and then a lot would never have been possible. It's about time I got back into it as I've hardly ever used my tablet since the accident.

I've been off line for a week due again to messing with my hardware and further cleaning of the insides of each computer. It's remarkable how quick the insides accumulate dust and fluff. I'm almost finished updating them thankfully. I'm just waiting for a new case and some extra cooling fans (some I've not seen before that slot into the bays at the back)so that i can built up my final one for the next year or so (that is until the quad cores come down in price a little, lol). I find it annoying that most changes always seem to require everything else changing. I've just given away an old 1.5Gh machine and have another MoBo with a 1.8GHz cpu that is probably going to go in the bin as I've no space for it. I've finally got a nice set of computers that should play all of the most recent games (apart from the slowest, a 2.2GHz cpu with a graphics card with only pixel shader 2.O, which I can't beleive was actually my main computer last year). I've been meaning to set up a small LAN for my son and his friends, but went overboard a little, lol. ('scuse the waffle)

UPDATE: The bloody software from RightHemisphere comes with a "30-day trial then disable" feature. The retail cost is $595.

Thanks to both of you (RSM and FF) for your excellent and very useful posts. I will be finally reinstalling my own image programs, which I lost interest in following my rta back in Sept 05. I'm attempting to download the lite version of Art Rage and have registered with RightHemisphere.com and hope to get the entertainment bundle soon. I really appreciate the time you both put into researching and finding these great softwares. Also I find reading your threads entertaining as well. :)

Knowing human nature as I do, I suspect someone would try to kill the golden goose by posting info that violates GAOTD's TOS, if you know what I mean. Still, your basic premise is good if you strictly control what gets posted/uploaded.

Not sure of the liabilities involved, say if you're the conduit for something buggy that ends up even inadvertantly damaging someone's PC. A site disclaimer isn't worth a dime (or a damn) in the US where anyone can sue anyone for anything and corrupt ambulance chasers advertise their lust for the almighty devalued dollar.

As you know, there exists already a site that stores old programs (the link's been posted here a couple times, I just don't have it at my fingertips) as well as a plethora of blogs and gamey sites that display graphics, but that shouldn't dissuade you from launching something similar.

Hello again, RM. Wow, that's a lot of effort you invested. My hat's off to you for that. I really didn't mind upping that file for the CM, it was no problem.

Matter of fact, it got me to thinking how it might be cool to have a sort of Forum Upload Repository to make things like that available for forum members. Sort of an exchange board for freeware that is obscure or hard to find... Maybe even contain some original artwork or things of that nature that board members wanted to share..

What are your thoughts on something like that?

FwF - there may be a way to save you from having to upload it for everyone else who wants a copy. Had to dig and drill like an 18th century coal miner with black lung disease, but it looks as if righthemisphere.com still offers the trial here (bubby, this isn't an autodownloader page!) if you fill out their datamining form in triplicate and check the entertainment bundle button at the bottom -
http://www.righthemisphere.com/support/downloads/download.php

Caveat: Haven't tried it myself, yet, so don't know what their definition of "evaluate" means, i.e.,
"free unlimited trial",
"you can play but you can't save",
"3 uses and you're out",
"15-days from now, when you're hooked, you'll have to pay through the nose"

PS - I notified the German Download.com site of the problem, using http://www.freetranslation.com. (now, LeKanaw, don't laugh!) Either they'll understand and make the change, or charge me with a crime for butchering their native language! Regards my quest for edges and frames, yep, I'm hoping hamstergirl sees it although I'm also hoping for something that's not littered with gerbil pellets and pawprints. :-)

@ TheComputerMan I just had a look through my backups, and went to the link where I downloaded my copy of Deep Paint 2.0, and the link has been removed from Download.com . I'm not sure why that would be, but I'm willing to do something for you, if it doesn't break policy with this forum.

I can upload the file somewhere for you to pick up, if you'd like? Just set up an account somewhere, and let me have the relevant information, and I'll upload a copy for you. Seeing as how it was a completely free program when it was available, I do not think I would be breaking any laws of the land, or rules of this forum.

I am a registered user, so I don't need it as much as most.

Good of the developers to offer free.

Hello Everyone,

The newest version, ArtRage 2.5, was released on July 24! So, blackhunter, maybe its a good thing that it hasn't shown up yet here at GOTD - the full version has some very nice new features, as well as a new look and is worth waiting for. The price has gone up as well, from $20 to $25 USD (in other words, it's still ridiculously underpriced!). I love the new ruler. Instead of the usual ruler/guide around the edge of your painting space, you have an actual ruler, secured by a pin, that you can position anywhere on the painting surface you wish and at any angle. You control the length via a handle on either end and can have as many active rulers as you wish. A stencil feature has been added. Like the ruler, they can be resized and repositioned anywhere, and there is no limit on how many you can have active at once. And, you can take any image you have and make a stencil out of it. This feature alone can save you so much work! I am not sure which, if any, of the new features have been incorporated into the free version.

I know that Ambient Design is aware of GOTD - it has been mentioned recently in their forum (by another member who was giving a heads up for that days giveaway, Magnifying Glass Pro 1.4 ). The developers are very active in their own forum so, if you care to, you could always bring the idea to them.......

Cheers,
Hamstergirl

Hamstergirl,

Soooo, was it as good for you (sorry, couldn't help that)?..LOL

Ummm... let me catch my breath here for a moment...
I do like Deep Paint. The deeper I get into it, the more I like it! ;)

Anyway, glad to be of help - its always a good sign of progress when replies to your postings go from "what an idiot" to "thank you, that's good to know". And its nice to find another artist here.

Agreed! Courtesy and thanks/praise are in short supply these days it seems. As far as the artist title goes, I have to clarify that I'm an aspiring artist. I studied commercial art in vocational school ...ahhhh... some years ago. I've done many other things since that time, but have come full circle to find my love of art regained now with the aid of 'puters. Still acquiring equipment to further my ability/art. Next on the list is a drawing tablet. It all comes down to $$$, which I don't have much of at the moment due to some personal hardships lately. So I'm playing the freebie game for now, which actually has some great competitive offerings to the commercial side of things.

I have to reinstall Twisted Brush after a total system meltdown recently (lost the mobo and hdd). It has some unique brush features, but I haven't played with it for sometime. Another fun paint app to play with though. Another very powerful app in the right hands with a little practice. BTW - The link you provided above came up with an error. Twisted Brushes HmPg can be found here > http://www.pixarra.com/index.html .

I really like PaintStar. Haven't had much time to do a lot with it yet, but I did modify an existing pic I have with ease and the texture selection is pretty good. Zoom feature is fantastic at up to 1k %! Pic is focused/centered at your click point which I found very handy, along with the grip move/pan feature and the ability to toggle between original size and zoom level without having to click all the way down and back up again (unlike some apps I've tried with a zoom feature). I like the layout of this app (windows/panels like G.I.M.P.) . Allows you to have only the panels you need open. Haven't tried the morph feature yet, but looking forward to see what it can do as well. Painter25 I just dwnldd it and will try when I have time. The description of what it can do looks pretty impressive! Looking forward to playing with it.

I have others, but most of them are on the Usual Suspects list and easy to find, but just let me know if you want them. And thanks for your welcome...not that i'm fragile or anything, but a response like yours can be a real confidence booster to a newbie. I have only recently been posting and it can be a bit intimidating when the community is made up of extremely tech saavy people (I know,I've left myself wide open here). Sure would like to see more painting and drawing apps here at GOTD. Lately it seems like video apps are in the spotlight - maybe some equal time for the artsy folk?

I've tried others on the usual list too such as Paint.NET which is another fantastic tool to have in ones arsenal of image tools. This ones geared more towards retouching, but again in the right hands with a little practice can produce some pretty amazing works from scratch. You should post your list of usuals here for all. I'm sure they will be appreciated by all.

Fragile never entered my mind! Everyone likes recognition, yours truly included! It's such a cold me me world anymore it seems. People just take what they want and ignore the effort one put forth. I recently joined another forum, and within 24 hours every moderator (including the Admin) gave me a personal welcome and a wave along with several other members. First time in a looong time I truly felt welcome on-line rather than just another statistic/body hangin' out (sorry, it's invite only and I haven't earned that right yet. Not an art related forum anyway).

The folks here range from the typical 'dim whits' to highly skill and professional specialist in their field, and experienced business owners. A very diversified crowd I think. I've learned a few things in my short time here sandbagging the threads in the forums and on the main page. Some of the commenter's are very savvy, while sadly there are some porch puppies and infants here as well. But!, this is a place where lots can be learned. Now if we could just get some of the know-nothing know-it-alls to put a cork in it...

And I too would like to see more artist related offerings here at GOTD. Maybe we'll be lucky and have a run of artist related apps such as the video over load as of late. There have been a couple good art/graphic offerings, but not too many just yet. *fingers crossed* :)

P.S. - my favorite texture brush in Deep Paint? - zipper! its a great way to "stitch" textures together.

Nice idea! Can't say I have a favorite yet as I've just begun to play with 'Deep Paint'.

P.S.S. - regarding the "scrapped" issue - that was pretty much what I was referring to, just could have phrased it better. I was not aware of their bundling the 3D version though....most likely because my machine....uh,...*ahem*...isn't 3D enabled (ouch). This puppy needs too much work to upgrade - new machine is the answer, and THEN I get to explore the 3D world! (yeah, right, except i gotta wait until I don't feel like a total mark in the computer store before I try buying a new one - LOL!).

BigThunder1,

Soooo, was it as good for you (sorry, couldn't help that)?..LOL

Anyway, glad to be of help - its always a good sign of progress when replies to your postings go from "what an idiot" to "thank you, that's good to know". And its nice to find another artist here.

In case you haven't seen it, check out the thread here on Twisted Brush, started by Lee - if you don't have it already, try the link Kat provided - http://modernart.wikispaces.com/space/showimage/tbrush35.exe. This program is major fun. And a couple of months ago, i found Painter25, you can get that here - http://jansfreeware.com/. This program in kind of ..... odd is the only word i can come up with!, but its got some unique/fun features of its own - give it a try if you got nothing better to do. And then in GOTD's freeware library, you can find PaintStar which is a real gem - the homepage is here - http://wang.zhenzhou.googlepages.com/. I've plugged this several times here, most recently during the Great Morph/eus Disaster, since it has a nice morphing feature, amongst other things (screen capture, texture brush, etc.). I consider this a real keeper.

Regards,
P.S. - my favorite texture brush in Deep Paint? - zipper! its a great way to "stitch" textures together.

I did dwnld and play with Deep Paint as suggested by hamstergirl. I must say I'm impressed with it's features and quite extensive selection of textures included with the dwnld. It's a definite keeper! A beginner could use this and produce impressive works with a little practice without a problem, yet it has feature settings that would make a professional custom tweaker happy all the same. Very nicely layed out UI and not too busy with buttons galore as many of these apps tend to be, yet a very powerful tool in knowledgeable hands.

BTW - Deep Paint was not scraped by the developers. They now offer the new version of 'Deep Paint 3D' in their bundled software products.

Thanks for the suggestion hamstergirl! I'd never heard of it until you posted it here. Next I'm going to play with the free version of ArtRage2.

I 5th the idea of offering ArtRage2! (well I am the 5th one to say yea in this thread ...hehe) ;).

Anyway, I'm an aspiring CG artist as well and would love the opportunity to play with the full pay version of ArtRage2. I sure hope GOTD makes them an offer and they accept. I'd also like to see GOTD offer more software related to CG and design as well as CAD. The utilities are great, but I suggest some more variety if they can manage/aquire it. Would be very nice to diversify the offerings a bit more if they're available. I would hope their focus is more than just the utility offerings of late although many of those are great works as well and very much appreciated.

@ hamstergirl:

Thank you very much for your input and description of ArtRage2, as well as the link for Deep Paint. Your description of ArtRag2 is very informative. I had no idea it was such a great program for it's intended purpose. I'm going to dwnld and try the free version as well as Deep Paint. A quick glance of the reviews show it too to be an outstanding app to look at. I'm a member at http://www.Download.com and used to hang out there a lot. A very well organized and trustworthy site indeed! Thanks for the link!

BTW, your welcome for the PTB_(Powers That Be) acronym in the other thread. I didn't overlook your comment of thanks, just didn't see opportunity to post a welcome there at the time and I had other things on my mind at that moment.

Regards...

oops, i forgot one other thing (yeah, i know, someone shut the rodent up)....ArtRage has participated in other giveaways (of a sort). A recent UK graphics mag included the program on their cd, and i believe it is also included with purchase of a tablet, i can't remember for certain which one, but i believe it was a european only deal - which means that Ambient just might go along for the ride since they've done it before!
