You may be able to pick up some of the original Need for Speed games for $5 or even less, but to be honest the first few in the series are now so out of date they look like DOS games. (actually, the first one is a DOS game called The Need for Speed released around 1994 - amazingly none of the early ones have been made into freeware)

You can pick up Need for Speed Carbon, which is about 3 years old for around $15 or less. The one before that, called Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which I think is one of the better Need For Speed games apart from the latest (which is nearly as good as Dirt 2 that was released on PC yesterday and I've been playing for most of the morning) is also available for around the same price if you search around. (Game.UK sell both for £9.99). Earlier versions such as Need For Speed Underground I & II, Hot Pursuit II and Porsche Unleashed take us back to early 2000 and are a little blocky compared to the latest versions. You may find them in second hand dealers and EBay, but they aren't held as stock any more. I think I've posted info about the latest and the best in my opinion called Need for Speed: Shift in the games discussion forums somewhere; (it was released several weeks ago)

The original Castle Wolfenstein is also free; you'll need DOSBox to run it. You'll find download links for both of the GTA games in the games Synopsis HERE, where you'll find most of the decent freeware games that are available posted. Amongst the games are many DOS based games that are now considered abandonware and most of these were commercial titles 10 to 20 years ago. there's also quite a few recently converted to freeware games that were commercial as well as games that have always been freeware. We've included several great games that are still being sold, but have had in game advertising added so that they could be given away free. The ones we have posted only have limited advertisements, usually confined to the menus and set up pages of the game and no in game advertising.

As I said above, there are over a thousand free games in the games synopsis now. It hasn't been updated for a couple of months so there’s actually quite a lot of games to add to the synopsis, which I'm about to start updating later this weekend. Amongst the free games that haven't been added to the synopsis yet are games such as Full Spectrum Warrior, a squad based third person shooter that is still a commercial game, but in game advertising has been added. I could list a whole raft full of games here, but you'd be better checking the list out for yourself. :)

NFS is not free, you have to be careful with download.com because most of their game downloads are actually patches or mod's. That's the biggest reason why I hate to download from them because there is no real way to sort it from full game and mod/patch. As for Wolfenstein, I'm assuming hotdoge is referring to Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory which is an online free game. GTA, would be the original GTA 1 and 2. The ones you'll see on download are 98% of the time mod's and patches. Wikipedia has a small list of commercial games released as freeware. I'd suggest checking there also.

I'd also suggest downgrading to win98se, it actually will run a wider range of programs. Better DOS access.

I'll take a root around in my 'abandonware' files in the DVD-R catalog. if it's totally limited to shared memory, you can rule out quake II and treadmarks, but- depending on what/where and how hard it is to turn off the internal video- and whether she's willing, I have a pair of 16 meg Voodoo Banshee (accelerated 2D & 3D, OpenGL 1.4 I think- if far from new) PCI video cards sitting around gathering dust, one of which should be easy to locate. I'm certainly willing to gift it, and the drivers to go with. Standard sub-D 15 pin vga connector.

raising shipping is the only thing that'll slow me down giving it away- I have only one machine currently on the network that PCI video would be a boost, and it never needs as much as the shared memory provides, being strictly a network file box. Doesn't even have sound.

128 megs of ram and a Banshee, assuming Pentium/Pentium Pro/K6/K6-2 class processor above 233mhz (PPro/K6-2 and 400+mhz is handy, but I started out with a pair of K6's at 233mhz playing q2 on my 5 mips lan) will run Quake II, Heretic, TreadMarks, Dark Forces, the new MechWarrior first person games, and *lots* more. TM and MW a 3D joystick is a definite plus, but not vastly expensive. Feel free to pm me, and I can give you my gaotd email addy.

You'll also find that many of the games link to other download sites such as Acid Freeplay and Abandonia (there's loads of free download sites plus many more individual developers linked to via the free games synopsis) that should have loads of games for her to try out. Click HERE to go to the free games synopsis. Good hunting

I was wondering if you all can help me hunt down some free full version games that'll run on Windows ME. She's only got 128mb ram, not sure of everything else, forgot what it said, but I'm pretty sure she probably doesn't got a graphics card in it.

Been looking and found a couple of things off of caimen.us, but not sure if they'll run on her computer or not. That's pretty much the only place I found to look so far.

Friend mainly wants me to try to find card(Rummy, solataire)games, word games, and puzzle games(like bejeweled).

Thanks for the help if anyone's able to help. :)
