Thanks Suki'.

Sorry Delilah; my copy has been backed up until such time as I'm in the mood for playing it. I've not played the game since completing my review. Hopefully somone will respond. If no one does over the next few days, I'll put the thread in the main stickies section to guarantee it stays on the front page until such time that 'hopefully', someone does answer your query. :)

I'll also do a little digging to see if I can find a walkthrough for you. :)

Anyone still playing? I'm stuck at what the book says is the last puzzle: in the Dark Castle, where it looks like you have to roll the golden ball up to the Throne Room Door in order to open it. I was lousy at those little plastic puzzles with the ball bearings you had to roll around, too, but there at least you could stop in mid-tilt, or re-direct the ball, but here I can't figure out how to do that with the mouse. Or maybe I'm going about it all wrong, and that's not the objective?

mine was for sure from GGOTD, which caused my concern: GGOTD or my pc?...

so...ran Spybot on boot...ran Webroot Spysweeper scan...ran Outpost on-demand scan...downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a full scan............none running at the same time...

did everything again a few days ago...

other than the usual suspects (like macro-recorder is a keylogger)...and false + (my HP printing software from 2003 is now being flagged by Outpost)...everything looks ok...

i usually take screenshots during installation, so i just went back to the external drive & checked...

unpacked/installed to program files (yes, bad habit, wrong place...lol)...it was the updated GGOTD file after the team changed it...had to make my own shortcut...and "GetFullVersion.exe" was in the program file...

running the program after install showed the "buy" button...then an attempted IE launch, that i blocked (my guess is that would've taken me to the site to buy?)...and then "GetFullVersion.exe" launched the box to enter the reg code we were given...

the Prevx link on the Virustotal page shows "The filename GETFULLVERSION.EXE was first seen on Dec 6 2009"...my always-on scanner i manually update...either i hadn't updated it recently, or it missed it...when i uploaded it to VT & Jotti, every time it "moved" my scanner warned me & tried to quarantine it...
http://info.prevx.com/aboutprogramtext.asp?PX5=97B88F7B00CF07743067105595A42A001F4EB3A5

i did see Dragonlair's post about the FP (and the game does run fine with that file removed)...and looking at the screenshots, i must've allowed the "GetFullVersion.exe" to run (or the reg box would not have launched)...and either my pc is not infected, or it hides itself very well...lol...

i usually am in agreement with all of the 'lox...however, i still am concerned about so many hits on that file...for me, way too many...i wonder what reason that type of file would get those hits, & also if it should have been auto-deleted after registering?...no idea here...

also...i feel terrible about not posting either here or in the virus thread when i first saw that...i always respond to concerned community members that everyone would be screaming if they found anything, & i didn't scream...even with the concern that maybe it was my pc, i should have...i apologize to everyone...

I may have gotten the game from the developer's site but I have to say this in my defense. I ONLY do such when it is mentioned in the game comments to so do - almost always by WR!

If we are not to confused the issue by downloading from elsewhere, then it should not be encouraged in the comments. Graylox, don't blame us for blaming GOTD or GGOTD when such things happen. We use this as the source even if the final download is elsewhere.

I think that is a false alarm.
The GGOTD download is clean. There is no such file.
I think, the users have downloaded directly from the homepage of the developer instead of activating and installing the GGOTD version.
That file seems to be part of the registration for the shareware version and some AV-scanners identify it as a trojan.
The users should understand, that they get an untested version, when they prefer to download from the developer.
It's not the first time, that GOTD/GGOTD is wrongly accused.

I had it reported and passed the report as a probable False Positive to Avira. I reported here - http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/7049 that it was indeed a false positive.

I also reported that the file didn't seem to be needed. However, if you remove it, you will have to correct your shortcut as this is the game that is used by default.

I've brought this back up to the front page because two community members have now reported a trojan being flagged - One in the comments section a few weeks ago (I think it was John) and now another member. I've spent a few days searching through my hard drives and back up CD's and still haven't found the copy I have of the game, so can't confirm whether its true. It's been two weeks since they were reported so I though I'd better post some warning just in case it's something thats going to cause problems. Thanks Violet for reminding me.

Here's the main bulk of the PM I received:

My virus scanners are one always-on, & a few others on-demand...one i hadn't used in a while got a hit in the Gregory Phoenix program file...it was not the game .exe, but "GetFullVersion.exe"...

if you still have the game, would you please run it thru VirusTotal & Jotti?...what i saw was a horror story...

either:
1) my pc has a massive infection 2) that file on my pc has a massive infection 3) that file has a massive infection or 4) there is a reason that an .exe that takes you to a site (i assume?) has a ton of hits

i deleted it, & the game ran fine...

i am not an expert on what game companies (or any company, for that matter) put in an .exe file that i assume takes you to buy the game (or program) at their site...or what kind of "hit" that may cause for virus scanners...

i'll put my links here for you (if you dare...lol)...but i'd really like someone else to run the file thru, & hopefully be able to explain what goes in it to me?...or if it is my pc!...

any guidance you can give would be very helpful...

thanks again...

VirusTotal: http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/5545423401fca432365513b680d55c795c2383a985d6b931674d670e4850a444-1265697941

Jotti: http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanresult/2e0628c62406d5446dba47273d99b5f9050cf8d1

Anyway, it seems that you can delete the offending file and the game will still work. If a few community members could confirm whether the file is beng flagged as a source of a trojan I'd be most grateful. I don't want to start a scare unecessarily, but if the trojan has any potemntial for causing damage or loss of information it needs to be sorted ASAP.

Thanks for your attention.

W.R.

It's actually not very difficult, and I liked all the minigames and etc. The only place where I got stumped on was the telephone one, though only because I forgot that I had the initials.

candelo:

You have to light up the segments to form three different numbers. Number "a" is 4. Number "b" is 2. Number "c" is 9.

Four, for example, is made like this:

|_|
...|

When you get it right, the "a" light in the upper right corner will light up. Then press "Done" and do the next number ("b" which is 2).

Hope this helps!

Pinky,

the books are a "combination". Start with "War and Peace" and try to remember your order. If you do the right order, they will all pull out. If you go wrong, you may have to start over!

Gram,

When I had to change users a few months ago. Several of my products (including several games) acted as if they had just been installed. I had to start over again. I just treated them as new games since it had been awhile since I had played them.

Hey, is it just me or is there absolutely no way to contact the developer. Looking through their whois, they're a private registrar. Seems suspicious to me.
