No worries. Be glad to help. Our server is a little different than most. We go out of our way to help newbies, rather than exploit them. If I have one new person with some old timers, I use my goddess power to give the newbie some advantages that the others don't have. I'm also pleased that we have more regular girl gamers than most servers. We have regulars of all ages. Our server has some nice features, for example unlimited sprint, spawn/chat protection, and in game voice comm. It's a dedicated server, it's up all the time, and we have custom maps and sounds. We have fun! Drop by sometime and I'll show you around <grin>.

Hi Chicky, thanks for the info. That sounds cool. Some of the players are new to online gaming and would feel a little 'exposed' on a open public server. We had to resort to apublic server last month as I was having problems setting a dedicted one up and most of the guys who turned up had an aweful time due to non giveaway members jumping in and pwned everyone (and spawn raping), sao your offer is really kind.

The whole point of the servers we set up is to give those unfamiliar with online gaming the oppertunity to enjoy themselves in an environment where everyone helps, isn't after scoring the best number of kills etc etc. I'm sure you know what I mean. Pity you didn't check in last year when we first started this project. :) I sure could have done with some help with servers as I was setting themn up every weekend at one point which became a little exhausting (I'd stay up all night to ensure the server was okay) :)

Hello. I've been visiting GoTD for a couple years, but I've never bothered with the forum until I saw people trying to get together for HL2DM. I'm sorry I missed it. I'm an admin at an established HL2DM server, and if you want community, awesome people, and friendly conversation, this is the place to go. I'm more than willing to password it for a special GoTD game sometime. You can find me in the steam community id http:// steamcommunity.com/id/enigmachick and then you can add me to your steam friends list if you wish, so you know when I'm online. I'd be happy to help those of you just getting started with learning the game, too. The server is Ryandor team HL2DM server. To find it, go into the Steam server window, filter by the game Half-Life 2:Deathmatch, refresh server list and wait for it to load. Click on the word "Servers" at top of window, and it should alphabetize the list for you, which would make us easier to find. If you see me online, send me a steam pm and mention GoTD. Once again I had problems,ok for a short while then kept losing visuals.Thought it might have been graphics card,so tried playing Crysis for a while,no problems there.It's got me beat.Reinstalled Steam this morning,that may help.

The server will be up and running in just a few moments. you can access the server either by starting up HL2 - Deathmatch then click on the option for searching for a server.

The server is password protected and VAC secured. by clicking the symbols on the top of the server list you can sort out all the password protected games from those that are not then search for the Giveawayoftheday Half Life 2 - Deathmatch server.

Or alternatively go to the Steam giveaway page and click on any community member that's already in game and select from the drop down menu join game.

I will be adding a few fun levels wherby we fight in a moon like gravity (thanks to wizz for the coding) and we will if enough community members turn in play some team deathmatch. Several rounds will also be limited wih respect to the weapons you can use; for example we could have a round using only pistols or shot guns and another using only the gravity gun.

the last time we did that those who played had a brilliant time.

The aim of the evenings play is to have fun; it's not a competition.

Re-DLing HL2:DM now so that I can get in on the 21st, had to re-format, so I couldn't make the last.

Here's hoping that the time that the server goes up isn't monday morning for me, cos that'd be a no-go.

Wizz has already said he can't attend on the night. I'm looking for a big turn out so that we can try some team deathmatch plus do some moon walking etc, so the 21st sounds like a better idea.

It's a shame we had to cancel last nights game, but I do think a lot of the guys would have been watching the super Bowl. I was really surprised to see it live on one of our UK channels as well. I've never watched Super Bowl, but nearly did just out of curiosity; however one of the latest episodes of Heroes clashed with part of the game and I wanted to play some L4D online so missed it, lol.

Next Sunday fine with me,more time for a practice as my reactions have slowed with age.

Hi Webmaster; no Wizzard isn't G@rgoyles grandson. He lives in America and She lives in The Netherlands and Belgium (not that that means they couldn't be family). We met G@rgoyle when she volunteered to create a synopsis for all the games we've posted since the free games project started. She used to religiously update the synopsis as and when we posted new games. (She also created the browser game synopsis).

We got to know her much better when we started running weekend servers, starting back in April last year. She used to attend every meet and loved to play. Both me and Wizzard (as well as other giveaway members) used to chat to her for long periods; she was a well loved woman. When she started to play online with us she called herself 'Great Granny', which led to us discovering she was well into her 80's, which is when the grandmother feelings were born. She was a keen (and very knowleagable) computer nerd (meant with respect, not in a derogatory way) , as well as a motorcycle enthusiast; (she had four Motorcycles still in use in her garage)and was well into playing HL2 - I also played Red Orchestra with her for a short time when I first purchased it. I had two of those Steam offers where you get full access for several days, but she found that one reminded her to much of the war. She was a teenage girl at the time and remembers seeing some aweful things happen. She said to me that the game was so realistic all those memories came flooding back, so we stopped playing that and returned to HL2 - Deathmatch.

Anyway, the last time I played HL2 with her over 4 months ago, she'd just been convalesing from some minor surgery, but I remember her saying there had been some complications and she had to go back in hospital for a few days. That's the last we've heard from her. The games synopsis, which she wouldn't let anyone help her with hasn't been updated since about the same time as I played the last game with her..................

I've worked with elderly peple and know how fragile they can be following surgery; especially if complications arise. We are very worried about her , but don't want to say any more. We are just hoping that she will return, but it's looking more and more unlikely. :(

Saturday's are much better days for me to play as I usually spend Sundays with the family.

Saturday or Sunday,this week or next,any day will do me.Don't watch the American brand of football so I'm not too bothered about that.Regarding the freebie games,that's what got me started on Steam,good value at the price!!

So Saturday would be a better day? Then again maybe we should play the following week (13th or 14th) - Oh Valentines that weekend. Tell you what. Let me know when its best for the majority. I'm easy whenever..... :) I'll see what we have over the next week, then we can book a firm date. :)

Honestly the game isn't about the shooting, its more to do with a bunch of gamers enjoying themselves. G@rgoyle for example was in her mid 80's and she loved playing the game. She'd never played this sort of game in her life, but decided to check it out and loved it. :)

I'm not sure whether you can still get free copies of the game, but its worth checking. You have to have an ATI or an NVidia graphics card to be eligable for the freebie. you can also get anothr HL2 game that has a singleplayer element to it. That game will give you an idea as to what the game is like (though playing agains computer AI bots isn't the same as playing with real people. :)
