last month, i had a friend who was asking the same question, so here is what i found for them:

AviSplit (AVI Video joiner and splitter)
http://www.bobyte.com/AviSplit/index.asp

AviSplit is an application for cutting and rejoining AVI/DivX files. Avisplit can split a large AVI file into more convenient pieces (you set the size), rejoin those pieces or extract a clip with a specified starting and ending point.

Whether pieces or a clip, Avisplit output can be viewed in any standard player, and when the pieces are recombined, the result is exactly the same as the original.

Whether splitting, rejoining or clipping, AviSplit is very fast as no data processing is involved (lossless). Generally, using Avisplit is about as fast as copying the file itself!

AviSplit Classic is a freeware video tool for non-commercial use and may be redistributed without additional permission. So far AviSplit has been released only as freeware. This software is fully functional and does not contain any advertisements or transmit anything through the Internet.

----------------------------

AVI Trimmer 1.6 (freeware)
http://solveigmm.com/?Products&id=AVITrimmer
SolveigMM AVI Trimmer is a free video editor for fast and lossless AVI editing. This freeware AVI editor is small, smart, easy to use and involves no encoding/decoding processes. No video / audio degradation and out of sync problem arises after editing. All AVI file types of any size and video / audio content are supported.

With AVI Trimmer you can do the folowing things:

Get rid of TV tips in your AVI
For advanced editing more media formats - MPEG-2,WMV,ASF,WMA and MP3 use SolveigMM Video Splitter

Supports the OpenDML AVI file format extension
K frame/ GOP accuracy
i can suggest these:

http://www.videospin.de/de/

as a pair, those 2 should cover most. though movica doesn't do avi, and from experience I know not all avi's can be handled by free video dub. like OpenDivx 4.

one reason I'd like to see AVS Video Remaker as a giveaway, it gets some others choke on.

I have been using windows vista hp sp1 past two months and it is a massive improvement on xp and vista hp rtm.

If you have a crap machine which does not have the specs to run vista then y'all probably be a moaner or hater which ever suits.

I luved xp pro, I waited well over 1 year before doing the upgrade.

You have to move on, things change and people want better and newer, it's evolution.

I.E. 7 works fine, I did try I.E. 8 b1 and yewwwwwwwww, it's horrid.

However things change and maybe the browser will be changed to a better format to silence the critiques.

Some of my very favorite Firefox extensions are:

RSS Ticker (It shows all my rss feeds in a ticker, and is customizable)

Colorful Tabs (I like having different colors for my tabs to kind of keep them separate)

Autofill Forms (Now when I have to type something in on a different computer, I get all frustrated!)

eQuake Alert (Just so I can see where big earthquakes are taking place)

Forecast Fox (Instant access to the weather, although it goes to Accuweather.com, and sometimes the radar there is so far off it's funny. But I do get accurate temps and somewhat accurate forcasts)

Download Helper (For those YouTube videos I just have to have)

Now all I need is for some of my other favorites, like Tab Mix Plus and Evernote to be updated to work with Firefox 3.0, and I'll be happy.

I do complete paragraphs with a shortkey. Most of the emails I get are for our business, and when I confirm an order, it got tiring having to type the same thing over and over.. so I use it to insert things into emails, Word, and everything else I run on here: http://www.shortkeys.com/lite.htm

Jerry, I wasn't accusing GAOTD of anything. I believe the company (the publisher, not the software developer) in question wasn't just trying to stop direct downloading leechers, but prevent nonsubscribers from obtaining the access portal URL. Sisyphean task, that, but why make waves for GAOTD if there's no need? As for this particular software, I wouldn't install it in the first place because of the known quirk it has of telling you to DELETE other software. No way I'm using anything that tells me to get rid of decent progs.

got the link already!

Did you also delete my post too! Thanks copmom, I got the link, and Rm, still think they would like people to renew!

Who's on today, BuBBy or Lee? Maybe someone new!

Also thanks JC, that's why I wouldn't use Trend Micro, it had me take Spybot search and destroy off, and I couldn't get it back on one computer. It took me transferring the path to get it back on.

Love the Download Statusbar for the Fox, quicker than the censors!

Something else I'd like to mention. Several times I've downloaded free things from PC Tools, and for some strange reason that's when I'd have a problem with my computer! So, I'm very leery about getting their offers anymore.

Two points worth considering about the above.

1. The link provided does NOT direct you straight to the download link, so actually no 'rules' have been broken.

2. For those who wish to download the 'PC Tools Internet Security 2008' program, there are (at least) two snags which may deter some from continuing. Prior to actually downloading a warning is clearly stated. If you already have Avast! anti virus and/or COMODO Firewall, it advises that those programs are deleted from your computer first, because they will conflict with PC Tools Internet Security and cause instability on your computer!

Very sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but hopefully this information will save some of you time and effort. Keep smiling!

Love, Light and Peace - JC
