When I bought my camera from Kodak a couple of months back I was excited about the online capability of it. They call it easy-share.

You sign up thinking its a normal store you're pictures and with a limited amount of free space.
Nope, they want you purchase pics of the pics you post or stuff from the store and they offer you specials.

If you don't make a purchase after awhile, they start sending you reminder emails and then they cancel your account by the 3rd one.

It is hard to read, but it says message 2, so this 2 of of 3.
Needless to say I don't bow down to marketing terrorism. They did not get my business. This kind of marketing is completely unacceptable regardless if you signed up for it or not, nobody reads the fine print.

I think I'll pass on that whole concept! Look at all the people that have computers and aren't online, for one thing. Plus, with all the sickos out there that love giving us viruses, and getting into online banking systems, and identity theft, etc. I don't want any part of it. It's going to open a great big can of worms!
Sounds like it's a good way for 'big brother' to delve into all of our personal business! (Not that they haven't already!)

The mega-corporations want to sell us on Operating Systems and environments that are hosted entirely on the Internet. This is dubbed Cloud Computing and it's already here. For sure, the IT industry still has a long way to go before us consumers take the bait.
Here is one example out of a multitude available on the Web right now:

yeah, but film (depending on exact age) had shortcomings too- store it wrong, and it decays.

I'm going over to DVD-R since I found CD-R's failing for no apparent reason, and anything I think is critical at all I use the space (~25%) and CPU time (massive- Reed-Solomon codes- but it can use multiple cores- which I haven't got) to use ICE ECC to set up recovery volumes. puts PAR2 to shame when it comes to recovering completely missing files.

So far, since 2005 I haven't had a single data failure on a dvd-r that's burned and verified correctly, while CD-R's have failed badly over less time.

Believe it or not, as I was in process of installing an Open-Source racing car game, the software requirements landed me on the MSDN website... ergo, this post.
I'm not a programmer myself, but in case you're interested, the "Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 is now available!".
If you prefer, you can use Microsoft's automated Web Platform installer to get these free programs instead:
-- --- -- --- --
* Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition.
* Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition.
* Visual C# 2008 Express Edition.
* SQL Server 2008 Express.
* Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition.
* MSDN Express Library.
-- --- -- --- --
MS link to download page:
http://www.microsoft.com/express/download/#webInstall
-- --- -- --- --
Also — if you're not bored yet — the homepage for the MSDN Visual C++ Developer Center is:

And me too. :) I always feel web based storage makes your files even more etheral than they already are. I sometimes rue the day vinyl and negative film was superceeded by digital media, as the files we now have as replacements seem so unreal, lol. One of the album sleves I have by a band called Greenslade contained a beautifully illustrated book with a weird story and another album by Hawkwind converts into a chaos shield (lol). Though I must admit since getting into digital photograpy I'd never return to negative film simply because of all the advantages digital has over negative based film. The least of which is of course the ability to take hundreds if not thousands of images rather than being tied down to the number of film cassettes you have. I remember taking six 36 exposure films with me when we got married in Thailand in 1996. That equates to around 216 images. On average now, when we go on vacation I always take at least a thousand images. I wish I'd have had a digital camera back then as the place was beautiful.

But nevertheless, this tool looks like a nice toy for playing around with pictures.

most of these converters get about a 3 to 1 conversion rate which is really slow. Format Factory does it a little faster it uses avi synth,ffmeg, the standard free stuff and gets a little abit better than that. 3.5 to 1

this mean 2hours of movie equals 1 hour of conversion. so really a 2 hour movie is what about 30 to 45 minutes. my times are a little off, but you get the point.
I'm not a math genius.

there are some quicker free ones like staxrip or avi recomp and there are plug ins to speed them up, make the pictures sharper nicer, cleaner.

I have hard time with stax rip, but use the crude out of the other, but it still takes 20 minutes regardless of what plug in you use.

NOW There is a speed demon out there and will convert a whole movie in minutes.
It is called Badaboom. It uses gpu, by using a program called cuda. It will the wave of the future. I guarantee it.

You can get info here, there site is vague.
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_badaboom_description.html
http://www.badaboomit.com/
The trials though are cool though, they are not time based. They are used based, so they last for like 20 tries and then its gone. Oh and bad conversions count , so pay attention and read what works and what don't.
Here's a link if anyone wants to try or you can click the badaboom site link trial, same one.

For Being Called "Fast Video Converter" it sure is slow. I used the same file with the same video converting parameters in both Fast Video Converter and Format Factory and the result was, in time, Format Factory - 1 min 40 seconds Fast Video Converter - 3 minutes 30 seconds.

This makes sense why there are so many of these converters now. They just do something similar to this and your in business. Iobit is fortunate cause name recognition will sell for them.
They are liable to make a ton off this when this promotion ends and people start buying it. I just can't see this going off without an update though and I have been waiting for that from Winx, since their promotion was over.

They have flawed marketing strategy it is good, but it needs work, like selling an updated version once the promotion is over that is faster and does more.

Well guys I found out about this giveaway through Iobit.

Not much of a surprise there Chip! did a bit of whois and link chasing.

somehow (see end of message) I think they became an affiliate of winxdvd...
=============
now, winxdvd lists mastersoft as a partner..

   Domain Name: ALLDJ.COM
Name Server: DNS5.NAME-SERVICES.COM

but then, don't get out the DMCA spud-spitter just yet, look at WinXDVD's affiliate page and all is revealed:

Become an affiliate

Join our Affiliate Program and start earning up to 85% commissions through your website!
~
Our default sales commission is 60%, but you can get more commission easily!
* If you can create a link back to us which page's PR >= 4, we will increase 10% commission for you.
* If you can sell more than 60 copies/month, we will increase 10% commission for you.
* If you can sell more than 100 copies/month, we will increase 15% commission for you.

Enjoy these benefits:
1. At least 60% commissons for every sale of Digiarty products.
2. A wide range of creative banners and text.
3. Professional support for your web site.
~
and down at the bottom of the page, the terms:

Terms & Conditions
* Affiliates interested in paid search activities, shall contact us for approval into the program.
* Affiliates shall not bid on trademarked terms without consent of WinX, Digiarty Software, Inc. ect.
* Affiliates shall not advertise any coupon or discount without the authorization of Digiarty Software, Inc.
==> * Affiliates should not submit our products to other websites by using the same name of our products.
* All right is reserved by Digiarty Software, Inc.

so IOBit is just getting into the action using an existing advertising channel, advanced systemcare- business as usual.

60% [minimum! I always knew I was in the wrong racket!] of $30 leaves a lotta wiggle room to rake in the loot. iobit sells at $25, gets at least $13 for every sale after the giveaway loss-leader gets name recognition and some recommendations. Which might not cost them much at all, if they have a deal set up with WinXDVD...

who I gather are planning an update soon, which of course the gobble-day edition probably won't upgrade to free.

Feels a lot like chasing down that "my audio studio" and finding the shell game Audio Editor Deluxe was (is still?) playing, trying to find how to sell more of the same thing rebranded or with a shell for people that don't want to read the manual. (I'm rather amazed that one didn't stick around longer)

Ha- cross-typing strikes again Txnnok! different methods, similar result. IOBit did the setup, not digiarty. (sure sounds like sherlock holmes' nemesis, doesn't it?)

Got some news from Digiarty. The Converter is not a rip off. Here is a copy of the email it is short and I am going to leave the guys name. I don't know how public or official they want to make it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For "Fast Video Converter PRO" issue, iobit is just one of our OEMs. Thanks very much for your information.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of further assistance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just found this out. I have to many thoughts flying around my head as typing. I had come back and erase a lot conspiracy speculation about companies, branches, divisions,etc..., You get the point.

The one clear thought I do have that isnt related to that stuff, is it possible they Digiarty wanted to see if how well this converter would sell under a different name,

They create a "mach" co.(hope that spelled right), change up the product a little and sell it under a promotor.
--------------

I think their biggest problem lies in a few things. No mkv, no hd, and few other advanced features q-pell, gmc, bvop encoding, trell quantization.

My point is these are features you can get on many other converters for the same money.
Now that I a more aware I wouldnt buy Winx, I would buy something with more advanced features it matters. Thankfully I only paid 7.50 for it. The ripper was was the best purchase for that price to.

I'm gonna post a good converter in about 5 minutes that you can for free that does everything and then some.did I say for free, oh yea for free,lol

Well guys I found out about this giveaway through Iobit. They have advertised this giveaway in their "Advanced SystemCare." Iobit seems to be pretty trusted and I doubt they would advertise something that wasn't legit.

P.S And yes the serial provided by the site is universal and the same for everybody. But please do not post it here. The point of the giveaway is for people to submit what they are thankful for so they can compile a list. And I don't think they want the serial getting out for people to use after the giveaway is over.

Seems like a copy of someone else software like Txnnok said!

Based on the Company Awards they list on their web page (BTW, they are NOT clickable), I searched for them on the different sites mentioned and found zero/zilch about it.

It looks fishy to me!

And they are not called http://www.dvdfast.net for nothing, look at their copyright at the bottom of the page, it states:

Copyright © 2009 - 2010 http://www.dvdfast.net

Wow, that's what I call fast as we are still in 2009! LOL

P.S.: The McAfee SiteAdvisor button on my browser is gray and they have this to say about it.

From this same ZDNet article, you have this note:

To be able to do so, you'll need VMWare running on your computer (PC, Mac or Linux).

You can then download the image from Gdgt (And that's after creating an account. Annoying, I know, but if you really want it, that's what you have to do.)

===========================================================================

It is kind of limiting for us folks that do not have VMWare installed or do not have the capacity to install or use it (because of hardware or personal know-how).

===========================================================================

This being said, here are some more articles on the special Chrome OS event itself:

1) General news: Google Holding Chrome OS Event Thursday.

2) Coverage from yesterday: Live: Google's Chrome OS event

what tipped me off was the 'give it to 10 friends' line- didn't think they'd try and keep track...

and this is the video converter. the ripper probably looks just as close, though.

Mines is XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX . I decided to mix it up this time and left the 2 in the middle blank, so thats what the 2 underlines represent goodgotd.

I've rebooted since yesterday and that means my computer has a new ip and I getting the same code still.

Its probably a universal code.

Mod Edit: I relize you left some blank but let's let people get it for themself and not even have a clue as to what it is. Not sure what the website's rules are for this giveaway or if it's even allowed to be advertised like this so just being careful lol.
