Right on.
I'd like to add ...and make sure nothing blocks activate exe from using a tcp connection.

Off topic, maybe: Recently I discovered my antivirus had removed part of the activation process without prior notice,i.e for some reason it removed the actual setup file (...and the wrapped setup suddenly became a lot smaller that what I had downloaded, though still wrapped)
But in the end it appeared to be a false positive.

No problems here running Activate.exe -- it just connected to the GOTD server(s), made its changes to Windows registry, & the about box shows it registered to giveawayoftheday. It should be run as admin in Vista/7 to make sure it can alter the registry, & others have reported that Activate.exe uses parts of Internet Explorer, so may want to make sure everything's cool with that.

Hi there. Since the last few GOTD offers I have had problems installing the activation software. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. The software itself installs fine, but the activation software will not install, whatever Compatibility mode I try. I already posted the error code I receive on the GOTD giveaway page for today's offer, and I am not on that computer right now, so I will have to re-post it later on. Am I the only one with this issue, or are there other users experiencing the same problems with the latest activation software? Thanks in advance.

seems like others had the same problem as there has been two other threads about tis problem. Personally I had no problems. i always check to see if the program has activated correctly (after losing a few decent giveaways some years ago). Usually uoi can find whether a program has activated by going to the help section and clicking on about. With glary utils it says registered to giveawayoftheday.

Did you check the about button once the program had been installed and supposedly activated? Usually you can see whether a program is registered by going to the help button and selecting about. I always check giveaways that I want to keep to make sure they are registered becasue i've had the same thing happend previously. Mine said registered to giveawayoftheday, and is still registered today.

You need to make sure your Internet explorer is online If you use firefox, it's possible that I.E. is set to offline. that causes a failure in the activation sequence. sorry you missed it. We've had Glary Utilities several times over the past six years. hopefully it'll come around again next year.

I've downloaded several APs before, installed and activated just fine. Today I d/l GlaryUtilitiesPro, set it up like normal and then ran the activate program. It failed stating try again later. Several attempts later, all with the same failure I figured maybe my Kasperski might be interfering with the activation. I temp disabled it and ran activate again with same failing results. Tried several times.
Since I've tried several times over a large time period, and disable my anti-virus, I'm out of options. I don't know what can I do next? Any help appreciated.

@Stephen:
No LAN parties, I'm just such a geek that when I build a new computer with the latest technology, I keep the old one around (P4, E8400, Q6600, couple of i5's). I got the Macs (after a newer version came out, to save money) because I thought I should become familiar with Apple's OS.

@Ben:
Your original post about the EULA was what caused me to skip the BAD-osoft download altogether; I didn't realize GOTD had deleted it from the site - very poor form, if true! I may quit using the site if that becomes a trend :-(

I have a bit of a problem with the fact GOTD removed my comment that was at #63 and to which several others referred. I simply quoted part 5.3 of the Licence Agreement and commented on that.

It basically gives this wholly unknown entity 'Badosoft' complete freedom to copy files and registry keys from your computer to them. The fact that they may consider themselves bound by some privacy policy doesn't matter to me. The fact the software is capable of doing this is far too great a security risk to allow it to live on my computer.

This is very relevant information and people deserve to know this. The fact Badosoft may not like this is irrelevant. They should know better than to do such things. If GOTD removed my comment at the request of Badosoft then they were wrong to do so and I ask them to undo this action and restore my comment on that page. In my opinion this is an unacceptable censorship that compromises GOTD's independency and objectivity.

This is what I wrote:

From the Licence Agreement:

---
5.3 Privacy
You acknowledge that Badosoft collects and sends certain information to Badosft servers regarding the users of the Software, including certain personally identifiable information as well as certain information from the user’s computer, including a.) certain information about your computer software and hardware such as your IP address, operating system, information about the Software and its installed features, Web browser software and version, b.) information about your computer’s system checkpoints, which may include path, file and application names, c.) copies of applications, files or programs that are deemed for possible causes of high latency , connectivity issues and decreasing of system performance such as associated registry keys. You hereby consent to Badosoft´s collection and use of such information, and agree that Badosoft´s collection and use of such information will be governed by Badosoft Privacy Policy, currently published at http://www.badosoft.com, http://www.latencyoptimizer.com as Badosoft may revise the same from time to time.
---

So they think I will agree to install software that will send copies of files and registry keys on my computer to Badosoft? Without me knowing what exactly will be sent to them?

That's what I call SpyWare and falls into the category Malware for which there is no place on my computer.

- Ben -

I've considered using those ethernet devices previously but was dubious about them; however I may have try them if I can't solve the issue. Thanks for reminding me. I'd actually forgotten about those.

With 5 computers do you have LAN parties with friends?

It's one of the reasons we have five running as well. Though I didn't set them up for me. I do like to have two running side by side so that I can work on two different things concurrently, but I recently moved from the study (and at the moment only have room for one monitor on this particular desk that I've placed in the dining room becasue I was given a largish TV (32") which takes up all of the desk space. I set the rest up so that my son and daughter can play together with their friends upstairs.

I tend to purchase three copies of some games (that we all like) so that we can play together as a family; (thankfully, the amazing deals on Steam have made it practical for all but the most popular games like Call of Duty), plus Callum likes to play Team Fortress 2, unreal Tournamnet (four copies) plus Minecraft with his friends, all of whome have Steam accounts and Minecraft accounts, so they can all play together on the computers upstairs.

I feel your pain... its just so frustrating when such a seemingly simple technology fails to work and defies all logical attempts to solve the problem.

Have you tried those ethernet devices that plug into your electrical wall sockets and use your house wiring as a substitute ethernet cable, allowing you to use much shorter cat5 lengths to the computer? I have no eperience with them, but it might be worth a try.

I have 5 PC-based computers, which are all connected by ethernet (small house, no wife or kids), but also an iMac and Macbook Air, which work flawlessly as wireless devices. Of course, buying Apple products is not a cost effective method of solving your problem ;-).

At any rate, good luck!

I checked Giovanni's links. The first, which seemed the most promising turned out to be one of those that requires you to install toolbars etc, so wasn't installing that. The actual developers site looked promising, but when i went to download it they had a red highlighted message mentioning the toolbar etc. That was at least good of them. I'd rather pay a developer a set sum that allow them to use such tactics to make their money.

Not tried the Ashampoo version. Actually think i have a licence for it, but had forgotten about it.

I'm still having trouble connecting two of my computers wirelessly; annoyingly so as I've been promising my wife I'd get rid of the cables (use 4 30 meter cables to connect the various computer to the router plus one laptop which works fine wirelessly). I'm going to try using a spare router to boost the signal to my sons room, which is in the extension. The problem for that particular computer lies in the fact that the super hub we have just got from Virgin Media doesn't give as strong a signal as my old Belkin router and the signal has to travel through 18 inches of outer wall to get to his bedroom. The other computer has a strong signal, but just won't connect to the system for some reason. I've had the tekkies at Virgin Media link to my computers to remotely set up the computers, but even they have failed. The operating systems are both Win 7, (the one that doesn't connect is a 3.2GHzAMD dual core and the one that does is a 3.0GHz dual core, one has Win 7 Pro, the other Win 7 Ultimate. The both have different mobo's, but the specs are basically the same (ones a Gigabyte and the other an ASUS). Both have NVIDIA graphis cards (GTX 275 890 something MB RAM and a Gainward GTX 450 2GB RAM and around the same amout system RAM (between 4 and 6GB).

Thankfully my main computer connected fine ater purchasing a Realtek wirless dongle. Works much better than the network cards I originally purchased for four times as much. (that had ugly antennae connected to the cards)

Stephen, after seeing a couple of our reviewers point out section 5.3 of the Badosoft EULA, I don't think you'll want Connectivity Fixer on your computers; I know I don't!

You might try the freeware mentioned by Giovanni, perhaps it will help (and not be as onerous as our current offering).

I've tried installing this on four different computers and have requeted a key using different Emails. Every one throws up a message saying their is a problem with the Email. I'd loved to have tried this because I have connectivity issues with two of the computers on my network. If I knew that the program could solve the issue I'd buy the software, but there's no way i'll find that out now. :(

I have the same problem... Connectivity Fixer Pro downloads, unzips fine, but when I go to run setup, it hangs in a message box entitled Activating... and says it is connecting with giveawayoftheday.com and goes no further. I downloaded the software 3 times and each time it does the same thing.

Anyone else having problems??
For about the first time I have been unable to install this one. Downloaded the zip file OK. Opened it up OK... tried to install and got stuck on the drop down box "checking availability". Would go no further.
THEN I had to reboot to get rid of the "checking availability" box.

More importantly... anyone any ideas what to do to remedy this.
