http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/support/technical-support.htm (FAQ)

http://server.iad.liveperson.net/hc/s-28464961/cmd/kbresource/kb-6341657529542742174/view_question!PAGETYPE?sf=101133&documentid=347125&action=view

If these steps do not fix the problem, then you will most likely need to set
your Internet Security to Medium.
that you do NOT have any protocols blocked that are required for your
connection (for more specific information, see your network administrator).

1) Turn Gaming Mode on in ZoneAlarm (Try this fist)

Right Click the ZA icon in the System tray.

Select Game Mode.

Solution:

The Privacy settings in ZoneAlarm may be blocking some features that this
website needs to work properly, such as cookies, pop-ups and mobile code.

Please understand by disabling the privacy settings, you are not disabling
the firewall, it is only disabling the added feature of blocking cookies and
advertisements.
Now it will work.

It's amazing that this has been a problem for so many people for seven months now, and still there's no solution???

To be honest, the problem that some users can't download or install or activate or use a programme is even older than 7 months. Fact is, that most of the thousands of users every day don't have severe or long lasting problems otherwise the site would be down since a long time.

So, NO ONE has figured out why some systems just won't install the darn program and others will??
And I guess there's no technical know-how & support from the actual operators of the Giveawayoftheday site??

Thinking of the fact that every system is unique, what form should the support take? Should the GOTD team check every system of all the thousands of users?

Like WR wrote in the other thread, the fault and the solution is on your site.

Did you read my suggestion on the other thread that was started recently on this very same subject? Try clearing the internet cache on the computer ou're having problems with and see if that helps. It's only a suggestion. I've had similar problems in the past and that fix worked. :)

It's amazing that this has been a problem for so many people for seven months now, and still there's no solution???

My situation is this: the Giveaway programs ALWAYS install fine on three of my computers but NEVER install on a 4th (my main computer, actually) one.

Doesn't matter which one downloads the program, it's always the same. Of course I've tried turning off ZoneAlarm and antivirus programs, etc. but nothing helps.

The OS of the one that does NOT install the program is XP Pro, SP3. But one of the other ones that DOES work is also the same OS. The other OSs are Vista and Win7; these work also.

So, NO ONE has figured out why some systems just won't install the darn program and others will??

I want to thank the Giveaway of the Day staff and all of the community. For all that responded to my previous thread in a respectful and kind way (all of you did), even if my way of talking was not, please accept my sincerest apology.

jacampbelljr - this forum is run by the members rather than GOTD itself. They're not heavily engaged with what we do here. One of the forum members might take you up on looking at your activate, but probably not. These problem's are usually external to the wrapper. If you want feedback directly from GOTD, you need to go to the bottom of the GOTD page and click the contact link. Although, I'm not sure they'll respond to this one. It's very likely on your end, since so many didn't experience problems with it.

This issue has been dealt with many, many times in these forums. If you type something like "won't activate" in the search box you can see dozens and dozens of threads with dozens and dozens of suggestions as to how to procede if this happens in the future. Of course, there are some suggestions right above your post.

Sometimes the problem is solved by using other download sources. Often, if people aren't getting a good download from the main link, they'll try the mirror link and they'll get a good one. Also, people have been able to get good downloads from the foreign language pages. GOTD has a bunch of them. You can see the drop down language menu right at the top of the page. Don't worry about the software then defaulting to the other language. The developer controls that and, as far as I know, only sends down one version. So it's either already in English or let's you select one of the languages it supports.

Good luck in the future!

My post yesterday was ignored/deleted by the moderator?! I had a problem with the activate.exe with the HD Video Converter program yesterday. I was at work and thought it was due to the company firewall, but turns out it may have been a faulty download, since it didn’t work at home either. (Should have done like others in the past and deleted and re-downloaded.) Anyway, disappointed that the moderator didn’t post my comment or reply with the “Try again” suggestion before this offer expired – wouldn't you know it seems like it was the first one I really wanted in days. BTW, developer wasn’t much help either, just kept giving me the instructions to “click activate first, then install”. Gee, really! I know the offer has expired, but not sure why the activate.exe doesn't give me that response - still gives "Failed to connect." Is it worth me sending you the activate.exe file so you can compare it to the original? That way we can rule in or our if it was a download/unzip problem. Thanks!!
BTW, the file size for the Activate.exe is: 996 KB (1,020,700 bytes)

Dirty secrets? Maybe, but not what you're referring to. If you set the filters right, and if you actually read what exactly is the action on each item, you'll find that most entries are "enumerating" or "reading" entries, and not "writing" them. Also, please note that a great amount of these activities are either caused by the libraries that the Wrapper uses, or by Windows itself. That's why you set a filter: to see what you want.

If you upload a Process Monitor log, I can show you what "changes" the Wrapper actually does. As far as I know, the changes caused explicitly by the wrapper are its couple registry keys, bookmarks added to your browser, and extracting the installer for activation. Other changes are just made in the process.

<start showing extreme annoyance>BTW, how did you miss the action column? It tells you the type of action.
Please, next time don't copy-and-paste a huge log of Windows activities. Billions of them happen in the time it takes you to read this, and uploading them costs bandwidth and storage. Do some research before posting stuff like this.<end annoyance>

Sorry, flustered, but your misunderstanding what's going on. First, a process monitor monitors everything that's going on on your computer, regardless of what activated it or put it there in the first place. I'm not trying to offend you, but the way you put it makes me think that you may have not realized that you'd already gotten some of this stuff on your machine and it all didn't - I can absolutely assure you that it didn't ALL - come from the GOTD wrapper. Also, some of the things you sited are obviously natural parts of any install. I say this respectfully - but I must say it - perhaps you should have done some web research on some of this stuff before you assumed that most of it came from the GOTD wrapper. For example, all the entries concerning Windows Defender are natural parts of Defender's operation. Part of what Defender always does to try and make sure no malware - including from ANY installer - got on to your system. And Defender comes from Microsoft. It's built in to Vista, for example. And the placing of things into a temporary directory that came out of the orginal zip file is a function of whatever zip software you use - quite probably of Microsoft's own zip handling routine, in your case. Any install that encompass a zip archive - as Arcamania uses whether your get it from GOTD or not - is going to create those files.

The way to determine what an installer actually puts on your machine is not to use a process monitor, but an install analyzer. Here's one built into an uninstall utility. I currently use it just to analyze installs, because I use Revo Uninstall, which I feel is an even better uninstaller.

ZSoft Uninstaller: http://www.zsoft.dk/index.php?goto=software_details&prog_id=4

Others here can suggest even better install analyzers. I just haven't gotten around to upgrading, yet.

Again, we're not trying to give you a hard time. But, if you run an install analyzer, you'll get results a LOT closer to what Buzz posted. As I've said in this forum more than once, IMHO Microsoft frequently embraces complication for the sake of complication (one of the things I think mortally wounded Vista) and practically anything you do on your machine will trigger all sorts of arcane and, ocassionally, possibly unnecessary processes. It's like all those post apocalyptic Sci-Fi movies where the government offices look beautiful, but most of the population lives in rusting, collapsing squalor. Call it the decaying condition of the Evil Empire.

Ya know its a shame we cant have a linux Microsoft merge, well they did that (Lindows)and MS ended it quickly. My point is Linux doesnt use the registry system, cause it's pointless, leads to corruption, and errors.

Linux has downloaders with installers, but, but they cant install like windows or its copyright infringement. I guess- Only reason I can think of, that and they dont want to pay for the rights.
That is the biggest problem holding linux back in my book. If you could make the installer more like MS, people would by it, well at least Ubuntu and Open Suse- Those two are close anyway.

----------------------------------
back to subject,sorry I drifted

Why are blaming GOATD? This is Realore Game put in a Give away of the day wrapper. If you took the game out of the wrapper and installed by itself then all that would still be there.

Secondly, The person who is passing the games, Id bet didnt give a hoot to how many registry changes it made as long as it passed virus inspection. Finding this out is time issue, meaning how much time do have to spend.

Obviously, It is important to you, it is somewhat important to me, which is why I use revo. I dont go around checking the registry after installs, but I've also learned not to install realore games either.

While, as you said, some of these are initiated by GAOTD, the majority are probably not. Many of the DLLs that the installer must use automatically check for dependencies (like Flash and many of the DLLs you listed). It must also link to many DLLs to run, which explains more of the DLLs referenced there. In some cases, the installer must edit the registry to insert licensing data for some software, hence the registry-related activities you observed. Princess Fashion, on the other hand, is completely and utterly unexplainable and must be code inside the installer itself. This is very strange, and I must admit, it does look like it is spying on us.

This is just a minute percentage of what the log says. I can see that your software is doing things. Enough registry changes are being made. Maybe some of this is completely unrelated to your processes, but some of it is for sure initiated by setup.exe. It looks kind of like your software is spying on me, or something along those lines. Please advise. Also, run the Process Monitor software for yourselves if you don't believe me. If there is a good reason that this software does this, then I rest my case.

Several time, and this is no exception, I have installed a program BUT IT WON"T RUN. All the files seem to be there too...and of course it registered Ok too.

Hope this helps some of you.

When you run this the initial install screen with question marks everywhere (??????) is actually a self extracting rar – just choose the directory that you want to extract to (or leave it to go to C: drive – Path by default: C:\PasswordRecovery as stated in the readme file) Then hit the bottom button on the left to extract the actual setup files, then navigate to that directory to install the real exe.

I guess the rar is somehow corrupted or some language pack issue.

Regards – Damian

P.S. BTW the download size is actually 32.1 MB (not 22.1).

I had the same problem. Tried every possible solution--reboot, clear cache, try mirror link, turn off firewall, turn off AV, everything-- but still no activation. This happened to me once before with a game recently. I've been downloading from here for a couple years now without a problem until very recently.
