Nola,
See if compacting the sql databases helps loading FF.
CCleaner has a feature to compact FF's databases.
Also try to clear cache&cookies on a regular base.

Using a portable FF,like mikiem said, is my favorite way.
(I keep a portable FF ever since FF 3 up till 9,and I keep switching from one version to another)
Still.. on my old XP machine FF 3.26 tends to loads slower than the newer versions.
Also..I'm using the "memory fox" addon to improve memory management, mainly because usually I have a lot tabs active.

Just noticed PortableApps has a portable version of FF 1O.01 ready for download.
(so...wondering if the claim that all FF4 extensions will be compatible is true)

Right on.
I'd like to add ...and make sure nothing blocks activate exe from using a tcp connection.

Off topic, maybe: Recently I discovered my antivirus had removed part of the activation process without prior notice,i.e for some reason it removed the actual setup file (...and the wrapped setup suddenly became a lot smaller that what I had downloaded, though still wrapped)

yes, Robert, I am unable to view my Comcast webmail personal folders - so I'll do what you suggest and see what happens. By the way, I never use standalone progams anymore (whether Outlook or other ones) - in case of hard-drive crashes & potential loss of mail.

Webmail is (and has been) my preferred method. Thanks for your advice.

No problems here running Activate.exe -- it just connected to the GOTD server(s), made its changes to Windows registry, & the about box shows it registered to giveawayoftheday. It should be run as admin in Vista/7 to make sure it can alter the registry, & others have reported that Activate.exe uses parts of Internet Explorer, so may want to make sure everything's cool with that.

You're still puzzling me...lol..you mean you're using the webmail interface and you can't see any folders?Or you just can't you see any of your messages?
Or are you using outlook or similar to retrieve/send messages?
Anyways, you could try compatibility view in IE or/and clean up all cookies/cache(IE/FF)for the webmail interface.

Another funny thing. At work I am playing on a 4 year old laptop and this game really puts a strain on this machine. After playing for 10 or 15 minutes the fan is running full speed and after about 35 or 40 minutes the graphics start to lag and I have to shut the game down.

As far as the laptop's age goes, most of the casual games my wife plays stress her PC the same way, almost to the max, regardless how powerful it is (or isn't) -- the last time we upgraded (a couple years back) it doubled the horsepower, but the CPU load while playing her games stayed almost exactly the same. I have to pay the same level of attention to cooling her PC as I do on this one where I often render/encode video.

One problem with laptops is squeezing all that stuff inside a small as possible case means there's not a lot of room for heatsinks or airflow. A smaller or narrower path for that airflow also means dust bunnies can tend to get more concentrated in critical areas. It might help [I don't see how it could hurt] to use one of those cans of air to try & blow out or clean out some of that accumulated dust, shooting the stream of air into whatever vents or grills are available. A free app, HWMonitor [ http://www.neowin.net/news/hwmonitor-119 ] can tell you if things are getting too hot, but IMHO blowing out the dust bunnies & at the same time the keyboard is just regular maintenance or maybe housekeeping, like washing your car or cleaning out the inside as needed. Note however that some people object to anything being put into the air they breath, & I could see blowing out a laptop in a crowded office maybe causing a bit of a stir -- you might want to wear something like a dust mask yourself just in case.

At the risk of going a bit off topic, cleaning out the dust bunnies is something desktop PC owners/users should do as well. Rather than spend a continual fortune on canned air I bought a very cheap, very small air compressor, which has more than paid for itself in the few years we've had it. On the 2 PCs that sit on the floor we've found it helped immensely to cover the air intakes with pieces we've cut from home air filter/purifier pre-filters -- the pre-filters are usually very cheap, & washable, being either foam or a black fibrous material designed to let a lot of air pass through very easily. FWIW I've found the washable part critical -- simply vacuuming the filters off doesn't do it.

Thanks delenn13. At least I know someone is feeling my pain :) The nice thing about the previous 2 versions of the game was the fact that it was easier to get additional time. You can of course do this with 3 but if you focus too much attention on the yellow dudes or the additional time power-ups you end up with additional time but a low score. I like a challenge but this is beyond frustrating. I mainly play this game at work during my lunch hour and I have been trying literally for weeks to get past this current level. And as far as the mini puzzles, I don't even try. Another funny thing. At work I am playing on a 4 year old laptop and this game really puts a strain on this machine. After playing for 10 or 15 minutes the fan is running full speed and after about 35 or 40 minutes the graphics start to lag and I have to shut the game down.

Hi there. Since the last few GOTD offers I have had problems installing the activation software. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. The software itself installs fine, but the activation software will not install, whatever Compatibility mode I try. I already posted the error code I receive on the GOTD giveaway page for today's offer, and I am not on that computer right now, so I will have to re-post it later on. Am I the only one with this issue, or are there other users experiencing the same problems with the latest activation software? Thanks in advance.

I have finished all the cradle games, the age of Japan's, I think I lack 2 of the Atlantis' games and both of the Montezuma's. I have over 2.5 million on Bejeweled 3. My fav for a quick game is Sky Bubbles. But Montezuma 3 is driving me crazy as well.

The only redeeming parts of the game are the intro(which is really cool) and the fact you can get medals for being inpatient, persistent, a tortoise, and having bad luck. Then there is mission impossible..LOL. I seem to be doing the same as you..but worse..one game I think I got 13,000. And those mini puzzles..the worst. I don't like to do this but I have searched for walkthroughs and hints etc.. I have found videos for the puzzles on YouTube but nothing else.

Right now I am @ Treasury No.4.... 1 out of 8. It seems you just have to plug through it.

Sorry to be no help. But I thought I would chime in. Misery loves company ....

Nola, did you actually check if Thunderbird had any plug-ins loaded? Mine uses the same plug-ins as FF, which I can enable/disable separately in each program, and I'm pretty sure that Thunderbird just copied them from FF without any direct action on my part. If you didn't check, click "Tools", then "Add-ons" and the "Add-on Manager" should open on the "Plug-ins" page. If you're running a much newer version of Thunderbird than FF then it's possible the plug-ins need to be updated. Unfortunately, that will likely require a FF update because the new plug-in may not run with the old FF version despite any claims of "backward compatibility".

Thanks txgoogoo. Nice map. I am doing pretty well at finding things, but getting to them can be difficult sometimes. The map is useful to help locate where things are or find them again as there are so many locations. I was already using some of the resources mentioned in the articul, but the Skyrim perk calculator was new to me and is fun to play with. Love this game.

I'm trying to play through Treasures of Montezuma in expert mode and I'm stuck. I am attempting to get the extra star in the 3rd treasury by getting a score of 800k and something. I have already gone back to previous treasuries and collected all the extra stars. For the life of me I cannot get to 800k. I have tried trading the stars for different bonuses but nothing seems to work. This game can be really strange. Sometimes I think I am really racking up the points but my score won't even be up to 50k. Other times it seems nothing is happening and I will end up with 300 to 400k. Any ideas?

Guys, if only for security, you really need to update those browsers....as mikiem2 said.

For my wayward add ons, I use Disable Add-on Compatibility Checks https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/checkcompatibility/

"About this Add-on

While it used to be possible to disable add-on compatibility checking entirely, by setting the extensions.checkCompatibility preference to false, it is now necessary to set a different preference for each new application version. This add-on re-enables the functionality of extensions.checkCompatibility irrespective of the current application version and disables checking by default. Checking can be re-enabled by disabling the add-on (which can be done without a restart) or by toggling the preference.
"

And to help Firefox...

Add-on Compatibility Reporter https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/?src=api

"Help Mozilla make sure your favorite add-ons get updated for upcoming Firefox releases by using this extension to report whether they still work or are having some issues with alpha and beta releases."

IIRC, you have to join but it's free. They are all landscapes from the game. Thought Wabbit might like them.

Hey there Folks.

Stu Andrews here, just saying thanks txgoogoo and others!

Ballikin is my baby, and when my analytics showed me there was some chatter going on here, I had to drop by and say hello!

Ballikin builds will continue to be released thick and fast over the next few months while we progress towards Beta.

Thanks again!

Hi Chris, I don't have any addons or plug-ins whatsoever for Thunderbird, like you I just want to use the program. I got off the Thunderbird merry-go-round at the same version as you are using, and I have no idea if there have been further updates.

However, I do have some addons and plugins for Firefox, although not a whole lot. I have stopped on Version 3.6.26 but even before that it wasn't very stable. Occasionally I can't even get into it, but like I said somewhere else, I just load up Chrome and use that until Firefox decides it better pull its socks up before I dismiss it altogether, which still could happen.

Bubby I checked out the update process and it seems to be finished. At the moment (fingers crossed) Thunderbird is working reasonably well. Perhaps that's because I have now bought a Windows 7 laptop courtesy of my daughter who got a $6,000+ tax refund and gave me $2,000 of it for doing all the accounting and because she is a general wonderful daughter. It has got Win 7 Home Premium, 8gb RAM, so I will install the latest Mozilla products, plus Chrome to hedge my bets and maybe Incredimail to teach Thunderbird a lesson. It is sitting beside the naughty, ancient laptop, we will see how we go now.

Copmom, I too, get a lot of Not Responding on Firefox (never Thunderbird), although particularly on my daughter's baby laptop. In fact, every time I go into Firefox on her laptop (usually late at night when I can't sleep) I can guarantee getting that message usually on startup but sometimes later on too.

Thank you to you all, I appreciate your comments and I am glad that I'm not alone with my Mozilla Woes.

Hi Stephen,

I'm fine(ish). Just bought a Windows 7 laptop today thanks to my daughter getting a $6,258 tax refund with another $4,000+ to come from last year. So she gave me $2,000 ! Lovely daughter. I look forward to hearing from you when you can, I think of you often Stephen and wish you the best of everything, and less and less pain. I know how that is from first hand experience, I am only now starting to come alive after a pain-filled year where I felt like giving up. Just shows you shouldn't give up and I thank the God Cardboard Chateau plus the God PC Games for my reduction of pain. Plus another God that starts with W and ends with D that my son started baking in cakes and cookies to try and reduce my pain. And it did. I don't know how I managed without the last God all these years and only found it at 62 years of age. At least I feel now like I can live. Have had lots of trouble getting to the doctor as I am unable to drive when the pain is bad and I live so far out of town. Well, that's it from me, fantastic to hear from you and a huge surprise! Love from Nola

Just installed the update that contains improved textures for PC owners. That was the only gripe I had about Skyrim. It looked beautiful until you looked closely, but that's the price we usually have to pay for games that are cross platform. Hopefully things will change when the next generation of consoles come out.

Thanks for the article Txgoogoo.
