Funny you should mention this. Just last night I downloaded Firefox for the first time ever, and I LOVE it. I noticed the Beta of 3.0, but I went with the regular version 2.0.0.14, as I will let others be the guinea pigs.

The add-ons for Firefox are great. I may never fire up the IE7 again.....

Firefox 3.0 has had the first Release candidate made available on their website. If you are currently running a beta of Fox3 - this might be handy to know.

Note the software is still being tested and regardless how stable people tell you a piece of software is - using a Beta or a RC build on a production or live system - you accept that there are most likely still problems with the program. (ie. If you are going to test - make a backup, and don't do it on a live/production/business system).

(for those interested http://lifehacker.com/376551/the-complete-field-guide-to-testing-firefox-3 )

scubaguy.......as you say it takes a trained diver with a hardy attitude to make the dive with the low visibility! i snorkel a wee bit myself but only free diving if thats the correct term and only where the water is clear, we have eel fishermen on the lake and as a result diving on my own is limited to known safe areas, i would hate to get stuck in a net with poor visibility even with a good knife, however in my younger days i went diving with a French guy Alan Durant, a spitting image of Jacques Coustau, if thats the correct spelling of his name? we were on the north west coast of Ireland, in Co Donegal, where the water is crystal clear, we were not looking for artifacts but lobster! but on that coastline and close to where we were some Spanish ships from the Armada, 13 in all sank in storms, only a few have been located, one was The Girona, lots of pieces of eight, spanish gold and so forth were located by a French diver and his team, they hid the items in an underwater cave then when they presumed they had collected nearly all they announced the find, they has licence to search but were wise enough to wait until all artifacts were recovered as they knew other divers would turn up, which they did, but only found a few pieces, funny you should show up tonight as i was looking at wet suits this morning in my local shop, did not buy!

Paulga
Thanks for the reply, and I'm fasinated by the info you have given. It's hard to believe that more divers haven't dove the area just off the castles edge.Even at a depth of 100 feet and with poor visibility I have found many items. Some of them I've kept for my own collection, but if the item has historical value or importance they were turned over to local historical society. Most of the items I've found are from ship wrecks, but it sounds as if much can be found just at the waters edge of the castle.
Although at that depth and low visibility,it takes a trained diver with a hardy attitude to make the dive.
The amber color is most likely due to tanic acid from the vegitation,as you say the possibilities would be mind blowing.

scubaguy..........nice to see you back! that castle was built in 1210 by order of King John of England, but there was a wooden castle there prior to that, built in 1129 by King Turlough of Ireland. As for artifacts! there have been lots found but tons of stuff still there, and i do mean TONS, one of the islands i visit often (uninhabited) they found the largest hoard of viking gold in europe, that was Hare island on Lough Ree, only 5 mins upriver from where i live, we had a viking battle on the lake with about 100 ships, most sank, as many again were lost in a big storm, none of these have been found, only one diving club in the area, a small club, mostly dive for bodies, boat accidents,
the deepest i have found on my sonar is just over 100 feet, the water is peaty, amber in places, artifacts have been found on the shore when the water drops, swords, daggers, cannonballs, amulets, crosses,so whats below, mind blowing.

I know its just a list compiled by four people and supposed to be the "most read" and i was surprised not to see Gullivers Travels,Ivanhoe,Black Beauty, and perhaps those books were classed as "read when young" however as i read on average two books per week and have done so for about 50 years i was still surprised to have read 15 on the list, and i note thats about the average amount so far from those who made comment, that would indicate to me that its a pretty fair list, my reason to credit this was because over the years i have looked at other, Best Read, Most Read.....and so forth lists, and usually only have read one or two! what i would be interested in finding out from the forum, what were the books we read that amounted to 14 to 16? anyway my books were as follows
The Great Gatsby
The Prince
Slaughterhouse
The Republic

Anyone remember those cut-out cardboard models we used to have as kids, that you'ld glue together into something like a house or a car (or nowadays, a Ms Pacman cabinet :-) )

A couple of professionally designed models might make a cool game giveaway for people looking to spend some time with the kids away from the computer.

There are a lot of free ones out there of course, but also a few sold commercially. I think there's a guy who does some pretty cool Disney designs for example (like the haunted house etc)

Don't know if this is an idiosyncracy of just my PC, but when I open the zip, it buries the full PDF in -
"C:\Documents and Settings\****\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for ThePhotoshopAnthology.zip"
I moved it to my PS Tuts Folder.

(not recommending anything, just passing this next observation along fwiw)

Even if you're not interested in Photoshop, SitePoint dangles free downloadable PDF PREVIEWS of each of their many other software and web design books.
[Under each title, look for the Free Preview button in the bullet box]

Who knows, for the cost of a throwaway addie, you might find a tip, tweak or hack lurking in those Previews. I d/l the Firefox book preview and have to admit, they let you see a helluva lot more of a book than you get when accessing an Amazon preview of a book.

Thanks, but do you know why (with all the other random-themed threads that continue to exist)? Was it simply because the discussion belonged in this "Suggestions..." thread?

Johnny Appleseed's been wandering around GAOTD trying to figure out where to sow an image sniffing seed.
No brainer, right? It should go on the Search Engine thread; but, it's a simple little thing that isn't very discriminating. (i.e., doesn't have the sophisticated winnowing options of Google Image Search) and it's hosted on a tempermental server... we all know how off-putting tempermental servers can be.
So, as I'm enamored with fractals, here IT is with an appropriate starter term already thawed for your convenience.

Copmom, I embrace the same rationalization (mantra) for clutter... "If I get rid of it, then I'll need it."

Still can't find my last working a/b switch so 2 PCs can use 1 printer. I'd be willing to trade you a switch for a carton of dried up HP plotter pens and a year's subscription to Excel 1.0 or Inside DOS (circa 1991) but the bidding can't get any richer.
