@#44 (Eltima software) While I agree with you that these virus warnings are probably false positives, I feel you have chosen your wording poorly in your response.

During its install, your program performs an activity that is *almost exactly* what some virii do to hide themselves in a freshly-infected system. The installation of the driver responsible for hiding/unhiding the files would appear to be an infection-in-progress.

The triggering of a warning is therefore not automatically a bug in the anti-virus program as claimed in your response, it is instead more likely the anti-virus program erring on the side of caution by what it sees as suspicious activity by an unknown program.

#76 I think it's you not I who are doing something wrong. I re-installed the program a second time and got the same results. Maybe you're not using the "All Files and Folders" then use "All or part of the file name" as well as "A word or phrase in the file" in your search options.

You can open up that window you see in that image by either pressing Ctrl + Shift + P or double clicking the "My Lockbox" icon that should have been placed on your desktop by the installer.

I don't need any help in hiding things from myself. I do it quite naturally each and every day. And if I DO attempt to hide something from someone else (i.e., a gift), that "safe place" suddenly becomes a VERY safe hiding place, even from the one who hid it, i.e., me. :-B

This program uses a driver that is installed as a hidden service named HFCore. While the service is running, hidden files stay hidden, because the driver intercepts command having to do with the file system and makes sure the file system returns "not found" for those files. But as soon as the service is not running, the files reappear. The easiest way for a mere mortal to do this would be to run a Linux LiveCD (e.g. Ubuntu) on the Windows machine; the hidden files will show up with no problem. because the service is not part of Linux.

It's a bit harder for regular users to do, but it wouldn't be too difficult to configure the HFCore service so it doesn't start. That would also get the files back. In particular, if you reinstall Windows, the service wouldn't be running, so the files would reappear.

If you are dealing with files you don't want to lose, it doesn't take much to make a backup copy of the files and store them away somewhere safe, in an unencrypted or un-hidden form. That way if something goes wrong, you can still get the files back.
