After changing my folders, I kept getting memory access errors. The errors stopped after I reset the folders to the default appearance. The uninstall did not remove everything.

Hi! I love this folder marker a lot. With your "priority" icons I know what projects need to be worked on and able to meet the deadlines. Thanks a lot! Highly recommended

I don't think this works with WinXP. Kept getting "access violation" errors. Finally had to give up on it. :-(

#103, your explanation of memory consumption is incorrect. The problem is with Folder Marker's Explorer shell extension. It's merely right-clicking on a folder that's causing the problem. Any changes that you make to a folder are stored immediately.

I like it, thanks! I've been collecting icons to differentiate folders with works in process, and right-clicking is so much quicker than going through the steps of changing the folder properties.

#101, true, and an interesting observation. However, when you restart your system, explorer's memory usage returns to normal. I suspect this is Window's way of storing the change in properties until you reboot and the new system setting is saved. If you change folder properties manually, not using Folder Marker at all, exactly the same thing will happen... explorer will tie up memory until you reboot.

#71, #101, you're right, it does eat memory. Another defective GOTD offering. If the folder that you right-clicked on was in an Explorer window, you can just close that window and the memory will be recovered. I used AutoRuns do disable its Explorer shell extension.

WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING
Warning! Program eats memory!
Right-clicking folders to activate context-menu increases size of explorer.exe (or totalcmd.exe) by ~40..250 MB RAM!
Clicking another time increases size by another ~40MB...250MB RAM!
See in Windows Task Manager.

Well, I just got done reading thru all the notes here. Nobody seems to have had the problem I had. Namely, that after installing it, my Right-Click menu on folders has changed. Several items that are used regularly by me (such as EXPLORE) are gone. I don't know why, but after uninstalling it (at about 11:50 this evening), I didn't have enough time to reinstall it and re-register it during the 24 hour timeframe. I guess I'll try the free version and see if it causes the same problem. Still, I wonder what went wrong. In the meantime, I'll try some of the suggestions that others have made for similar alternate programs. (thanks, #49, 51, 52. I'll check those out).
