Could the publisher of FlipBuilder.com please explain how to get the book working after uploading to the web? I've got it working on the hard drive very well. And I uploaded both the files folder with the images, etc, and the html file. But when I try to view the result after it was uploaded to my website, all I see is an empty page.

This is the webpage in question:

Installed easily with XP3. I use Open Office and DO NOT have MS Powerpoint installed. Got the expected "Microsoft PowerPoint is needed" message but I continued and clicked on "Add Image(s)". I added four images and was then able to set book parameters and create a fully functional image Flipping Book which could be saved in several formats. I repeated this with 30 jpeg photographs (about 60 to 100 kb each). Conversion was very quick. Saved output as an html file which could be opened by a browser allowing one to flip through the photos as described within the browser window.

Attention!!!
Workaround for the Access Violation Error:

I also had the above mentioned error. I have Win 7 Prof 64 & Office 2010.

Changing the app's compatibility mode (Right click/Troubleshoot Compatibility/...) worked for me. I believe now mine is set to 'Win XP'. Since that one worked for me, I stopped experimenting.

Entered Comment 67, as I was experiencing problems publishing. I was never prompted to browse to a location to save. So, I had to uninstall and install again to get it working.

With that said, it was all worth the extra steps. With the exception of the rearranging of slides (which I agree is annoying), I think this is some pretty sweet software. The effects are great, and appreciate the clean Flash interface. Love it! Thanks GOTD and Flip Builder.

I have ispring, and would be curious to check out this tool. But I should mention there is another slick PowerPoint viewer/converter out there. It does have a free version. Visit prezi.com to check it out. Note that it does not flip pages but it does offer an attention-grabbing way to present. PPT files need to be converted to PDF to work with prezi.

I d/l the program since it seemed there were less negative comments about it using XP, which is what I have. It worked fine but to do more than just copy a PPT and convert it, then I will have to figure out a lot more about it! It is very complicated. I'm hoping for good things out of this for the students I teach.

Installed, Registered, ran once with a small file. Now will not launch. Win7-64 Pro. It'd be great if the developer could extend the offer until the problem is resolved!

I also downloaded and will try the alternative above, which DOES apparently support local execution (via an executable).

Almost identical experience to #1. Installed and registered fine on Win7Pro x64, but threw the following types of error messages when I tried to use it on a PPT exported from Open Office, and then a PPT created by PowerPoint 2010 Beta:
Access violation at address 00579023 in module 'FlipPowerPoint.exe'. Read address 0000000B.
...and then (substitute numbers into above line)...
00409171 - FFFFFFB
0059DC00 - 0000007
0059DC00 - 0000007...which kept repeating and I had to kill the program using Task Manager.

This one may be nifty eventually...I certainly have a use for it...but right now it is nowhere close to ready for prime time.

A KEY Software in a PROFOUND Emerging Technology

Today GOTD offers software used in my company’s production work. Many critical reviewers don’t understand Flip PowerPoint’s purpose or its limitations. But for a digital publisher, Flip PowerPoint performs its particular function exceedingly well.

Digital publishing is the future of how information will be presented to the masses. Flip PowerPoint reveals the future of how digital publications will be read.

The purpose of Flip PowerPoint is to produce DIGITAL publications in the style known as a ‘flip book’. Unlike PDF documents, Flip Book pages move—flip--‘sideways’ (like the pages of a paper book). The ‘Flip Book’ format is fast becoming the standard for digital publishing (especially for magazines, catalogs, and brochures).

If you want to create a Flip Book with all the bells and whistles, such as animation, video player, photo galleries, pop-up windows, and so on, use Adobe InDesign and Flash Professional. But how many people possess the expertise to effectively use that Adobe software? The ‘easy’ alternative to the Adobe ‘hard way’ is to use ‘flip book’ software that converts common file formats (PDF, jpeg, png, etc) into a flip book.

I clicked the Twitter and it took me back to GAOTD.

I had already downloaded it from GAOTD, and it gave a Registration key. Is it different from Licence Code?

Thank you for your response

"Microsoft Powerpoint is Needed...." The thing is, I have it installed! WIN7 Ultimate...

Amazing how it has a canned search for the location of the program instead of the ability to locate the program by choosing it's location. It doesn't work effectively, and there is no way to actually test it because of the embedded location the program searches for to acquire the Powerpoint executable.

Uninstalled after a few tests because of the lack of search ability for where the program is located. Default does not necessarily apply in all cases of installation. Some people keep their programs on externals and operate from there. In the case of the upgrade to my system, all 32 bit programs are relocated to (X86) directories...and "What about Cloud Computing?"

Too limited in it's designed. Unable to test it with any measurable definition.

I have Windows 7 - installed ok but 'Acess Violations' when I tried to import a powerpoint presentation. The only way I could close the program was ctrl-alt-del. Pity as I like the idea of the program and it could have proven to be quite useful. I certainly wouldn't pay the $79 for it as it as it presently stands!

Not sure I can see a purpose for this. The PDF or Word to flip makes more sense (two of the other products). But the whole idea of the giveaway is to experience new software. I was hesitant to download after all the difficulties posted re the download, but my vista 64 bit set-up seldom gives problems. Took the plunge. Now in Flip hell. Can't get rid of error message: Access violation at address ... flipPowerPoint.exe. Read address .... So now what? Forced task manager to close whole program, but no closer to evaluating or learning about program. Tried 5 times. Same result. About to uninstall. Disappointing.

Converted a lengthy presentation very nicely but with pages in the wrong order, making it totally useless if there are more than 10 pages!

The exact nature of this error is that it reads in files in this order
1, 11,12 etc 2, 21,22 ie in file number order not NUMERIC order 1,2,3,4,5 as in the presentation.

This is a SERIOUS error that needs immediate attention from the developer, otherwise, it limits useful conversion to booklets with less than 11 pages.

Installed and activated on XP SP3 easily and with no problems. Found and imported PPT file. Set a few parameters, previewed, and converted. Conversion maintained PPT order and works just like their example file.

Pretty cool tool that provides an easy new way to present information on the web. Two thumbs up!

This program works flawlessly on my Vista system. After importing a PPTX file, I only had to reorder the slides by dropping and dragging them along the preview section - like the one in PP - to where I wanted them to go. Then I clicked on the 'Publish' button and was able to customize the background, colours of the book, size and various other options. I was able to preview the results and see the book in action. When I was happy with that, I clicked on 'Convert to Flipping Book; and in seconds, the HTML file was printed out ready to be added to my website. You can also convert to an exe file.

I this this program is truly awesome and just want I wanted to create a promo of my illustrated novel.

Thanks, AxMag and GAOTD

#4: "Why is the presence of M$ software required anyway?"

I think FlipPowerpoint just uses regular, static images, but if/when you install Powerpoint [or **Maybe** just the viewer] you also install the graphics libraries Windows needs to translate Powerpoint slides into images FlipPowerpoint can use. IOW if you can turn your presentation slides into regular images, doesn't matter what presentation format or app was used.

* * *

#29: "... Under “Options” tab, it suggests that I am in the one page view, but that can’t be right because I’m looking at two pages.

No option to extract that paper tearing sound, only to mute."

What you set under Options is how many images per page -- 'far as I could tell, no way to alter the *canned* .swf player that displays your pages. RE: audio, my guess would be that the only way to further customize that swf player would be using something like the previous Shockwave tools [apps] featured on GOTD.

In spite of the negative reviews, I installed this on Win7 pro. I received nothing but multiple access violations. This program was unable to do anything other than starting up. For me, a complete waste.

btw... I also tried Martview as suggested by another commenter. That is a nice program but it does not do what this one is supposed to do. Martview cannot build a flipbook from a ppt file... only from pdf, zip and picture files.

Removing both from my system.

Unfortunately, the program will seemingly not work properly on my PC running Windows 7 64-bit.

Upon opening the program I was first told that I did not have PowerPoint installed and then told "this program requires a missing Windows component" (see screenshot)

Running the program in Windows Compatability mode (right click on desktop icon of program > Properties > Compatability > check box "Run this program in compatability mode for Windows XP") did not solve the problem, all it did was make the program hang in "Importing PowerPoint" mode. I am not sure whether this is because I have 2 versions of PowerPoint on my computer, my own copy from 2000 and the new trial version that came with the computer.

However, to my delight, the beauty of the program is that it works as a standalone program to which you can add a seemingly unlimited of slides and effects to turn into a flipping book. You can gradient the background colours of the pages (see screenshot) and have a variety of numbers of slides on one page to name but a couple of the extensive features available. Even though mine failed to import PowerPoint Presentations, it did not matter as I was still able to create flipbooks with sound (a fab, realistic sound of a page turning) which you can save as a web page (HTML) or .exe or zip and email.

This would make a great way of displaying photographs in their own, flippable album with sound, cretaing children's story books or standalone presentations without the need or PowerPoint being installed to name but a few uses.

Simple to use and impressive results, a must download as will undoubtedly come in handy at some point, I know I'm going to use this a lot.

FlipPowerpoint works for me in XP Pro SP3 32, but not in 7 ult 64 & not in 7's XP Mode VM. Why?... haven't a clue at this point, though I have a lot of older graphics software installed in XP Pro where it does work, & the problems in my case seem definitely related to image handling.

When/where it does work FlipPowerpoint takes images & puts them in a Flash Shockwave file similar to the store adds for Target, Officemax etc [without mouse-over FX]. You can import images individually, via drag/drop, by folders (directories), or as a Powerpoint file. It only works with images (static slides), not video or animations or any FX your presentation might contain, & if Ghostscript is actually needed/used, my *guess* would be for EPS format graphics [while I didn't see it used, Ghostscript is installed as part of PDF Creator just for that purpose AFAIK].

My impression is that the actual Shockwave stuff is canned, meaning whatever pages you create are going to be plugged into the same player with the same page flipping FX (which are nice & seem professionally done BTW) -- everything else is about creating, adjusting those pages. Image thumbnails on the left can be sorted &/or ordered however you like, & tools are available for flipping, cropping, rotating, re-sizing etc. You can also choose your page layout from several choices, like 1 image per page, 3 up, 4 up and so on. WIth that bit done, you click the Publish button which brings up another windows Full-screen -- here you see a preview with several settings along the left side for things like background color & shadows. Once all your adjustments have been made you can save those settings as a template, which would then be stored under All Users app data. The final step is to create the actual SWF file, along with an HTML page embedding it for viewing -- you can take whatever parts you need & use, doing your own embedding in a page you design/create, turning the .swf into a self-running projector file, copy/pasting the html in your own page etc.

All in all IMHO it's a cute tool that's small [~4.5MB] & doesn't have much impact on Windows [most reg ads are in the app's key]. But there are compatibility problems, & it is a one trick pony whose 1 trick happens to be very familiar to everyone who's ever browsed retailers' on-line ads. Personally it strikes me as something someone might use on a single at home project, then look for something else new for the next one. It would probably work out well in the classroom for continual use, but not so sure 'bout biz -- to me it seems a bit, well, un-pro for a biz environ, especially if you had a lot of pages, but it could work.

It installed and located the .ppt files OK, but when trying the first presentation, I had to look for the title page and found it was relocated to page 12 !!!!!!!!!! Also since most powerpoints are done in landscape, I looked for an option to flip upward (horizontal gutter) like is done in flipcharts. I settled on a two per page, but WHY CHANGE THE ORDER OF THE PAGES ????????????

ALICE,
I am going to trust you here and download the program. I would have liked the one that will take MS Word to book. But I am thankful for this.
The program installed OK on Vista 32 Home but I am running COMODO Firewall and the program had to restart but it installed fine after that. Also as typical during the install process a window popped up and asked if I would like to add an icon to the desktop or start menu. The radio buttons were unselected by default (untypical) and the icons were not forced to be placed on the desktop or start menu when I did not choose to. That makes you a bit more trusting.
Thank you for the program.

#9 Jet:
HTML type Flipbooks don’t seem to be portable. The result of conversion is a 32kb html file, but the actual content is somewhere else (coudn’t find it)
Sure its portable, the content is the same folder where the html file is, in a folder named "files". Simply take that folder and the html file together on a USB stick or whereever.

#17 Ed:
Unfortunately, however, there doesn’t appear to be a way for the user to “custom flash template”
All these customizations are directly right below that "custom flash template" in the table that fills the entire left screen and jumps into the eyes...can't be overlooked actually. Seetings like size, background pic etc. are to be made there.

Installed and works smoothly, very easy to use and maybe this could inspire me to actually use Powerpoint - in all my years using my PC I have only made 1 PP presentation (besides several when I worked in a design school teaching PP and other software), as I prefered Flash and Director for more sophisticated presentations. So, a nice little tool.
The page order in the output is partially wrong though and, adding a background image, the image uses the whole screen while the PP pages are very tiny in ratio to the image, but maybe its a matter of using different settings.
All in all, for producing a PP presentation in booklet form its a nice and fast way. However, I would definitely not pay $79 for it, for this price its too simplistic and I would expect a much more powerful application.
I would say $29 would be an adequate price.

Thanks GAOTD and FlipBuilder.com

Reinstall to see if any changes
The program still could not find ppt files unless changed option to "all files", making Files of type "PowerPoint File" option worthless.
Using minimal option "1 sheeet per page" for a total of 52 pages took nearly 1 second per page to convert all.
Clicked "Next" arrow, and.... Hung up going nowhere
initial prep screen slips to the front.
After what seems like massive RAM drainage, the prep screen exits and what... I didn't ask for a two page view, I wanted a one page view.
Tried to find option to change back to my desired 1 page view and noticed that there was a spelling error - Ddonwload setting - sb download. (Might want to check the website for other errors also)

Under "Options" tab, it suggests that I am in the one page view, but that can't be right because I'm looking at two pages.

No option to extract that paper tearing sound, only to mute.

I am always intrigued by "free", so I looked at martview. It is not the equivalent of today's offering. It requires their software to read the files, which means you cannot send out the files to users or the web without their also needing the 22MB martview reader. Without having researched today's offering, I think it does not operate that way. (At least from the description on this page.)
