Well I finally was able to unzip the software. It seemed that it did not like that I named a folder for it on my hard drive FeedEditor - GAOTD.

I usually create a folder for each download by the name of the software or similar. I mark the GAOTD because I know I can't reinstall it should something happen.

For some reason I could not unzip the files from this folder.

Once I just downloaded it as the zip file and NOT put it in the folder it unzipped perfectly. Not sure why this happened as it never did before.

I am posting this in case someone else ever has such a problem.

Thanks GiveAwayOfTheDay. I am sure this program will be useful. Even if it were not, your service is very generous.

Giveaway team, this is an excellent offering. The amazing array of choices, particularly with multiple wizards, will help me work smarter instead of harder .. I like that!

Before I run off to play with it, I had to offer my appreciation for the great giveaways.

ExtraLabs .. great work! Thank you for a professionally-designed, efficient and slick little editor. After SEVERAL decades as a professional in the realm of electronic repair, including stints at NASA and with the Navy micro-miniature repair (B-level), I can appreciate the art behind making a difficult task look easy. You've accomplished that with this program. Well done!

(Reality Check for the other members: after nearly FIVE decades as a professional, I've encountered my share of insufferable arrogance ... 'tis best to ignore whiners and braggarts. In truth, _genuine_ professionals have no reason to be offensive; they are confident and secure in their abilities.)

If you are niche web publisher using a page generator, an invaluable application this software is the ability to change static article content on the fly when used in tandem with a feed reader like RSS Feed Reader.

I have been using Feed Editor in this way for over a year and found it to be flawless and easy to use. I paid for it, and don't regret one penny of the purchase.

As far as GOTD is concerned, there is rarely an offering that I don't learn from or take advantage of. I don't know how anyone who is serious about web applications could possibly be critical of GOTD for any reason, whatsoever. No criticism intended.

I hope the comment section is remains intact. A good portion of the posts are helpful and worth subscribing to.

My official thanks to GOTD for providing what you do, not only for the free offerings but for the mentoring resource you have become to me.

YES! I definitely need an RSSedtr asap. Converting from CVS to HTML is g-r-e-a-t. I also have needed to use WYSIWYG editor, and edit my XML and pics. OK, I really have no idea what any of this is. haha Thanks a lot though GotD, it really does look like it helped those who knew about it.

Interesting software on here that one genius may use very well but the average person may fail to understand how it works.

A keen operation and exercise to create a true rss feed for reading material.

Thus in short a great download if you are the person creating media where as the most of our lives the average person simply does not have time as we are caught in the normal routines of using software we truly understand.

GOTD, thank you for this whole project.

Please consider disabling the comments section. Recruit a few volunteers to write unbiased reviews and to describe how to install the software and leave it at that.

The ungrateful crowd, that feel the need to speak negatively about the free gifts, are placing a large shadow over the project. Nothing is gained by their disrepectful posts.

I downloaded the program three times and it won't unzip.

It comes back with error: *No Files to Extract!*

I am using Windows XP Professional.

I right clicked and said EXTRACT.

Can someone tell me what is wrong here?

I see no one else seems to have this problem.

Thanks.

^^ Ditto Rabbit #84... I found of a lot of overlapping stuff between the two. But both work excellent. I found "Feed Mix" a little bit more user friendly but this "Feed Editor" explains itself just fine. Definitely the same developer "Extra Labs". This almost looks like an updated version of the "Feed Mix" program. With "Feed Mix" you have a quick reference bar to the left. But to be honest, Once you've done a few feeds, you really don't need the reference bar. That's prolly why they got rid of it.

Nice software for free! Thx GOTD and Devs...

Moderator, moderate! (you know you are allowed to delete snarky posts) Pleeeeeassssse!

People, remember, we have downloaders running from rocket scientists to your next door neighbour who "has never figured out how to set the clock on their VCR". And pardon the spelling and grammar, not everyone speaks or writes English, but odds are they they do a better job at English than 99.9% of the rest of us do at their native language(s).

These comments are intended to pass on our opinion of the software, not of the other posters and their intelligence or your opinion about their lack there of. So lets stick to the point, and talk about the download of the day (ONLY!).

#12 personally, don't thing your response was too out of line, until the very last sentence. And then look what resulted...

Looking at the response to the question, "what is it for...", the answer may not be clear yet.

`RSS`= Really Simple Syndication (easy way of distributing newsletters)

RSS is a technology that allows an author to post messages on the internet. If a reader is interested in seeing more from this author, they can sign up for this `RSS Feed`. Thereafter, when the person doing the reading wants to see more they open up their `RSS Reader` application. The `Reader` then sends a query to the authors web site to see if there is anything new to download. This way the author does not have to worry about maintaining membership lists, and having enough computing power to send out `newsletters`.

So this package can be used by an author to crate a `newsletter` and make it easier for the author to set up the newsletter for distribution by RSS `feed`.

Many here are wondering what RSS is/does. But Everybody online knows what email is.

Individuals choose to subscribe to email lists that interest them. Websites subcribe to RSS feeds of interest to the site's visitors.

I do not use RSS right now but do have a small community website. Thanks to Giveaway of (to)day I will start to us RSS to keep my sites vistors up-to-date on the latest community/town info found anywhere online. And All for FREE! Wow! Sure is going to save me a whole lot of time surfing.

#22 Tom Robinson says, "NO, but seriously, we are sick of software that the general public won’t use. I mean, RSS feed WYSIWYG editor with CSV and Javascript support, most people aren’t computer geeks!!!"

Your post makes no sense, you're complaining about a piece of software that makes things easier. It is SPECIFICALLY for people who want to include an RSS feed on their blog or podcast site yet DO NOT want to learn how to manually set up RSS feeds but would rather have a program automate the process for them. That means it's for anyone EXCEPT computer geeks.
Did you not see these parts of the software's description:

"You want to create professional RSS feeds but you don’t want to learn complicated RSS technology? "

"You don’t need to be a computer science guru and learn Internet technologies."

Don't know what the acronyms mean? Look them up! Try this site:
http://www.netlingo.com/lumenu2.cfm?category=Technical+Term

See the alphabet bar at the top of the linked page, the one right above the black bar? Very good! Now all you have to do is point and click on the first letter of each acronym you don't understand, then scroll down to find it in the list for that letter. When you find it, click on the acronym for a complete explanation of what it means.

PrincessFiccy you explained the program's use beautifully. Thank you for taking the time to translate your knowledge into language that lesser experienced individuals can better understand. Now folks might know if they even have a desire to learn more about RSS.

I pimp GAOTD frequently. There are So many software choices that it's sometimes hard for someone who is not as experienced to navigate the field and determine what is helpful for their particular use and what is not. It's also a little scary out there, security wise. I find that the offerings here give me a chance to safely check out new utilities. I've been happily surprised more than once to learn that there IS a program to do (insert need/desire here). Once I have basic knowledge through one of GAOTD's programs, I can determine if I need to keep it, look for a different sort of program with the same functionality but different features, or simply let it go.

As for not being able to reinstall if there's a problem, that's okay with me too. At least I'll have a chance to determine what I REALLY need to purchase a license for, and what I can just as soon do without.

GOTD: I suggest you TURN OFF comments altogether. It's becoming a club full of the same ungrateful whiners.

And if you are one of them, why do you even come here? Nobody forced you to download any software, and you certainly weren't charged anything, but yet you take the time to whine and complain.

Some people will LOVE the software you don't like, and vice versa.

Sheesh. Underdeveloped, latent adolescent behavior is nothing you want the world to see. Grow up.

On second thought, GOTD, I think you should start CHARGING for the software here. If you're going to take some undeserved abuse, at least make it worth your trouble.

I have been downloading here for less than a month and I just want to thank GoTD for the incredible offerings. Can some of the programs offered be found else ware as freeware? Probably. However, as visiting takes just a moment of your time it shouldn't matter that you cant use every piece of software offered, just one is pretty cool.

As to this program... Awesome! I dabble and play with a couple of websites... and this program will allow me to add a feature that I hadnt been able to offer before. Thank you very much.

As to the ongoing question regarding just what this program is used for... RSS is basically a way for you to know if a website that you frequent has new content without you having to go and check there all the time. You have to have a 'reader' and you 'subscribe' to the 'feed'. Very similar to the old style newsgroups from yesteryear. This program would allow you to create your own 'feed' and allow visitors to your site to 'subscribe' to it. Then when you add a new 'feed' they would get it automatically via their 'reader'.

If you want more information please take a moment and google your question or go to wikipedia.org. You really shouldn't trust anyone here to be overly helpful as has been shown.

Thanks GOTD. People had asked for some variety and I think this fits in to give us something other than screen savers and mp3 editors. I like to come here and see if interesting software is being offered. For those complaining about it being too technical or not for the general public, just move on. If you don't know what it is then you probably don't need it and no one said you have to download everything offered here.

This is my first comment here and I thought I'd add in my opinion due to all the negative comments.

Please keep in mind that the software is "free" regardless of whether we want the screensavers and whatever else. Like someone has mentioned, you can take it or leave it. Being negative about what's offered isn't going to help anyone. Would you rather NOT have a GOTD? Let's be thankful that there is someone who is doing this day in day out. There's a lot of work involved to round up all the software, organize it and lots of backend stuff that most of us don't see. Being a webmaster myself, I can understand and getting negative comments do hurt and sometimes I personally think I feel like throwing in the towel when I get some nasty stuff in the email. So please be considerate to others. Just because we're "safe" online from being beaten up or whatever doesn't mean we can be nasty to others. Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. Just my opinion.

I personally don't think I need it so I will pass but I'm very thankful that GOTD is providing some really cool programs for free. Keep up the great work, GOTD!

Downloaded, installed with no problem. Checked out a couple of features seems to be simple enough to use. Have not used RSS feeds that much in the past, but have been curious about them, and wanting to learn about their use. This little program should help me (or anyone) get started into the world of RSS. I really want the Screen Saver with news feeds. (: (Excuse the smart ass remark)
It would be much more pleasant if we could just read what other people think of the packages offered. Just a simple like or don't like and the reason why, works or doesn't work, maybe a comparison to other software. Really don't enjoy having to plow through some Geeks smart ass remarks and comments. A Geek comment is ok and sometimes can be helpful, but enough of what some think is cute or funny.

#62... you are pulling my leg I hope?
if not...
the text in my post #12 was a cut and paste (and a little snip) from the presentation of the program. I do believe most of the acronyms have been explained above (See various comments above. Not necessarily only those flaming me). Those not covered seems to be HTML, Hypertext markup language. This is the code that defines how a standard web page looks and behaves, using so-called HTML "Tags", little code snippets.
to see an example of HTML, rightclick your mouse on the text here to open the menus, choose "show source" and enjoy. The "tags" all start and end with (see w3.org for MUCH more info) XML eXtended Markup Language: More or less extends the principle of HTML making it usable for many things besides webpages. You can define your own "Tags" in XML.(same place, w3.org again) and JavaScript (not an acronym... but it is a way to put advanced functionality on a webpage) (see http://java.sun.com/javascript/)
Welcome to the fascinating world of programming!!

Techie Teri, #60 thanks for the time taken to share useful information. Will check it out.

They say it takes a man [and I guess also a woman] to recognize its mistakes, I say it takes a human being.

If you have done that Seafarer, learn from it and keep walking and with any luck, this will have shown you to think twice next time, before spitting on someone's face when they ask for help.
