Yeah, its pathetic that some people are really vindictive and thumbs down. I still love screensavers and wallpapers, and I honestly think most people do, too. If you're not interested - just don't download it. But don't thumb it down just because *you* are not interested, that's plain vindictive, nasty and immature. Another thing that needs to change is the rating of posts. Some posts are really helpful, and heartfelt, yet are have a -rating. What do people who do that, get out of such a spiteful behaviour? There should be no need to neg anyone, unless their post i8s trolling or has bad info or is off topic. Why are people so negative and mean-spirited? If this post goes through (and its a fair comment) then I await the vengeful negative ratings. I really think that the +/-ing comments should be done away with, lets face it, it does not serve any real purpose.

I also agree wit #4 comment! There should be more of a voting system then just a thumbs up or thumbs down! That's too a basic type voting! Maybe someone likes the software given away, but has no use for it for themselves, because they already have a different version of it, or has a different companies version of it! Or maybe it works on someone's laptop OS, but not on their desktop or other laptop's OS! There could be several reasons to like it, but not want to download it! So that's why there should be a more detailed type voting system! Like maybe have a section in the voting, that states, "Like it, but have no use for it!"

The voting system is seriously flawed, yes, i don't even look at them because they are meaningless.Complaining about the voting it is a waste of time,as its been pointed out more times than i care to remember and nothing has changed. I either read the comments on users who have installed it and tried it, or install it and try it myself in a sandbox. If i like it i keep it ,if i don't then i reboot and its gone.

#6 Karl,Thanks for your daily efforts they are appreciated.

Like mentioned before, You NEED a new voting SYSTEM!!! If you are too busy to do it, there are many Unemployed programmers or retired programmers out there who would jump at a chance to help you out. I have done quite a bit of pro-bono work, and it's a way to pay it forward!!!

DON'T just blow it off!!! Ask for help!!!

I'm a retired BSCS, and I know first hand what it's like..Fun is what to mind...PCWiz, AZ

"Agree with #4, #5 and #8" and 15 and any others who say this.
GAOTD is a "Take it or Leave it" place. You can't expect to have something useful every day. You may only even find a product to d/l once or twice a year ( especially if you are good at finding freeware programmes).
But the software here is entitled to be judged on how well it does what it should - not whether a given user thinks it's a waste of space or not.
For a start, finding 364 programmes in a year to give away free is no easy task. Some are going to be frivolous. Some people like frivolity. Their choice.
Not your cup of tea? Just walk away. Simple.
Something that fails to live up to its promise - Downvote, rip it to shreds. Whatever.

doesn't work. I read the file, installed, activated, etc. when I go to change my desktop, it's not there!

Very pretty. However, even though it was set to show my desktop icons, it did not. It also does not have anything moving except leaves falling. It uses too much of the CPU that could be used for more important things.
I will leave installed in case I want to look at it some time in the future when I am bored (not likely I will be that bored), but it can not be left running while I am using the computer for anything else.
Thank you GAOTD.

installed on windows 7 64bit with no problems. A very pretty unicorn in a forest glade, didn't see any hidden stuff and unfortunately it took over my computer, it didn't clear on the click of a mouse but acted more like wallpaper except it covered all my desktop icons. I uninstalled it but on reboot it was still there as my wallpaper and still covering all my ocons. It had gone from the programmes list in add/remove progs the only way I could completely get rid of it was by doing a complete restore, this will I think make me very wary of trying simlar progs in the future.

Please sell these as animated movies instead of wallpapers!

(They could never-the-less be installed and locked to one computer, or?)

It would result in thumbs up instead of thumbs down!

(People are suspicious obout *.scr -files, because they could be malware.)

I absolutely agree regarding the voting system. I'm certain that a lot of good programs are voted down because the voter doesn't have an interest in the particular category.

Agree with #4, #5 and #8.
This is my first comment since I stumbled on GOTD a couple of years ago. It's the first site I check each day and have downloaded some really great programs.

THANK YOU GOTD and the companies offering the selections.

But the thumbs up/down numbers aren't helpful to me for the very reason mentioned, so I have to scan the comments to decide if I even want to try the offering. That's OK, I'm no techie and so I learn stuff. Re: todays offer and their recent goldfish one; I get it that animated screen savers are unneccessasary resource hogs, but my inner kid still gets a kick out of them. The goldfish are cool, but I exit it to watch video. So, as tranmontane said: a “Not useful to me” category would help both the developers and your visitors who may want a good prgram that most others have no use for.
Thanks again and keep up the good work.

#1: "DOSE put a fair amount of stress on the video card causing the cooling fan to run much more than it normally does,"

#2: "These things are energy wasters."

DesktopPaints sells software to add animating effects to your still image -- Animated Wallpaper Maker [it's on GOTD from time to time] -- & they sell animated wallpapers that they've made. They do require certain capabilities from your PC's/Laptop's graphics hardware in order to run, so some systems might be totally out of luck -- the 1st time I saw their Wallpaper Maker on GOTD I spent an afternoon creating wallpapers for people it turned out couldn't run them at all.

They do not use a lot of resources from my graphics card [AMD/ATI 7870] -- at most a couple or few percent -- but as Alan wrote about his laptop, mileage will vary. I'd guess that on some hardware it'll use enough CPU to show up in Task Mgr. as well -- some graphics stuff can be handled by the CPU [at lower speed] when the graphics hardware isn't capable, & some systems have their graphics built into the CPU. The important thing to remember is that *mileage varies* depending on your hardware -- don't ignore this GOTD *Just* because of Alan's experience, but at the same time realize that the same *might* happen to you. With the low impact of a single file making it work it doesn't hurt too much to try.

The amount of electricity your PC/laptop or tablet uses depends both on the hardware & how hard it's working. I don't see any additional voltage used when I run their animated wallpapers -- both the graphics card & CPU stay in a lower power state. It just uses what's already there in that minimal state. OTOH my graphics card requires more power just to run, especially comparred to if I just used the GPU built into my CPU. That graphics card also requires a higher output power supply, that wastes more electricity than a lower output version, & it requires more cooling capacity, which also uses more.

So, for me running animated wallpaper has really very minimal costs, if any, but I'm already wasting some. Lower powered systems, particularly something like a laptop, might see increased use of electricity. That said, more philisophically, why have it if you're afraid of using it? Read books instead of e-books &/or watching movies. Use pen or pencil with paper rather than running software. The big reason I don't regularly run animated wallpaper is that normally I can't see my desktop anyway -- if I'm at my PC I have a bunch of Windows covering it. :)

I agree with comments 4 & 5, if you don't have a use for the software offered here that's fine, just don't run it down. I am saying this not just for the software listed today but for all of it.

Of course :

look for Toolwiz Timefreeze 2014, download it, it's free :), install it (as administrator!), you can take the default settings. Reboot - and you're done!

If you want to change your system state to "sandboxed", this means no changes to your REAL system, thank simply click "Start Time Freeze". If you want end this state, then "Stop Time Freeze", allow the immediate reboot and you have your "old" system back again.

If you want to spend money, then look for "Faronics deepfreeze". If you use Winj 8.1x thzen don't use a program, which is has not been updated for the last year.

And please, as always : if you crashed your system -> don't blame me!

I have no interest is this app either, but unlike those that misused the voting system here, I will not vote it down.

Hey there GOTD folks, I really appreciate your giveaways. I do not mind one bit when you offer things I don't need. In those cases I never vote down like an insolent child.

How could it even be possible to offer something everyone wants every single day? Sadly, the voting system has will be mostly useless, unless you move to require logins in order to vote. Otherwise it is overrun by anonymous cowards.

@ # 3 It has nothing to do with being girlie or "macho these types of programs consume too much processing power One only needs to open the task manager and monitor it readings while its off and while its on . And if your computer is underpowered that's probably why the vote down Screensavers and desktop animators have seen better days

Love GAOTD and its knowledgeable commentators, but agree with tranmontane that the current voting system is not helpful. The program makers must also feel the same way. GAOTD - please fix. Thanks.

PS - how about a link to help us find and use virtual sandboxes? I never have and suppose I am lucky so far - but how is it done?

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit system.

A (French?) company without name and address, specializing on wallpapers.

Why not? There is a market for wallpapers and some people seems to love it. Especially children. This is an animated wallpaper for the young lady.

Here is an animated fairy land where a tree is really a clock. Its twisted trunk looks like Merlin’s robes. The branches may or may not be a tree house. That may be a cuddly white dog or maybe it’s a tiny white pony. Watch where you step, and always keep a good look over your shoulder.

The description is the best part of the wallpaper. Sorry, that I didn't find the tree, that is really a clock. I kept a look over my shoulder from time to time, but did not see anything than the bookshelves in my office. And there is definitely no white dog, also no white pony, but a bored unicorn. After looking for an hour that magic fairy wood, I become bored too. Uninstalled via reboot.

Install it for the next visit of your grandchildren!

hi - COMPLETELY agree with comment 4. i think it must be really disheartening for developers who offer their work for free to see it get massively voted down when clearly it has not been d/l and tested. i am surprised they still offer stuff to us. for example we get loads of video converters offered. i've never used one and doubt i ever will, but i would not vote it down for that reason - some others do.

please lets have a way of offering some feedback as suggested by comment 4. well done - great comment.

I really think GOTD should have TWO positions for "voting" rather than just the one, as it does not discriminate between those who have no use for such a programme (who would thus vote it down, as "Not useful to me" -- which is still useful feedback to the developers) and those who have TRIED it, and feel it is either good, or perhaps not very well put together, or has limited functions, for instance.

THAT would solve the problem of voting down what might be a really good programme -- for some people -- by those for whom it is pretty useless.

I haven't even voted on this, because I would like to make my vote for the fact that, to ME, it is of no interest. But as I don't know if it is a good, well-made programme, I can't possibly vote on that particular point. So, how about allowing us to give REAL feedback, GOTD? Surely it is in your interest, too??

This wallpaper is just lovely. I don't know why so many dislikes and it's only 2:00am! I'd like to know what's so terrible about it! Maybe it's too "girlie" for you macho tech-guys. Well, phooey on you!

downloaded and set up perfectly on my Dell N5050 4gig ram windows 8 laptop, this would be perfect for a child's computer or laptop, beautiful, clean smooth running desktop, DOSE put a fair amount of stress on the video card causing the cooling fan to run much more than it normally does, I am afraid of over heating my laptop the cooling fan has not slowed down since the instal, and will have to uninstall it
