Yes, it's FileZilla, it even says so in the title bar. It suffers from the same drawback (in other words, they didn't change anything important) that made me stop using FileZilla on my laptop: file last change dates are set to when the file was downloaded, not when the server file was changed. To me, that was a killer. Since servers are not all on the same time zone (duh!), it can be difficult to know what has been changed and what hasn't. (I need to submit a change request to the development team.) On the other hand, I loved how FZ shows a queue of what files (and an accurate byte count) are left to download, and the multi-threading. My old copy of WS_FTP 95 LE doesn't do that, though it does the file change date routine right.

#63 - I know what you mean. I left a note on this suggesting that while GOTD are not to blame for putting this up, it might have been a good idea to withdraw/replace it. Nothing particuarly nasty or vindictive in that I thought - but the comment (number #5 - until it dissappeared) got 'moderated' ......

Again mods, you have my email address, if you have a problem I'd appreciate the chance to quickly discuss it with you?

Why dont my Comments stay up?? What is the problem. Attempt no 6
As i was saying, i dont have any use for an FTP program, as good as this one may be. I have several sites and i find it easy as pie to simply upload and edit my sites directly from Windows Explorer.

I have tried several , including file zilla, but Windows Explorer is easier.

Mods, if there is a problem, please email me..

Well, Well, after howling at the Moon, mostly in vain, at last Ashraf has touched many nerves!! I`ve seen a paid for rip-off of spybot search & destroy a few years back now, but well done! Ashraf,We all read you, even if we don`t often agree with you! I use Total Commander plus Powerdesk has an FTP unit, thats not much cop really compared with T.C It`s an old version, the updated one won`t work with ME , even though it`s supposed to.

When Ahead complicated the updates for Nero 6.00 I got my updates for it via their FTP site using T.C They do have a useful help file on the peculiarities of setup etc on their site, one exasperating one is if there`s too many users you can`t get back in line and have to wait around!

It *is* FileZilla code.

Didn't anyone check out #11 BuBBy's catch? The copy you have on your computer (if you installed it) confessed its true origin for you.

Beyond Compare is not free but is the greatest FTP file sync program available. If you have a need to keep directories and files in sync you can't do better. As a web developer it saves me hours each week.

Asschaff - c'mon young man - if you want to be a tech journalist you've gotta start stepping up. You have an entertaining writing style and potential to be very good - however journalists do research and report FACTS. They don't make wild claims and unsupported assertions (Example: Yesterday's offering "Uses too much RAM"... Oh yeah? How much exactly does it use?.... What is acceptable?....) Any tech editor would nail you to the wall - your 'reviews' would never make it anywhere beyond here or your blog because you make unsupported assertions and statements that are nothing more than your unsubstantiated opinion. Nothing wrong with that if you say so- just don't try to pass it off as authoritative or factual. Pity more people aren't able to discern the difference.

On to ExtraFTP - It may be true that these guys have simply re-branded FileZilla, but IMO your righteous indignation is completely misplaced - and way off base (and maybe leaves YOU liable for a slander lawsuit?) - because if you had dug just a little deeper you would have concluded that they have NOT violated the GNU to do so. All they have to do is reference the source code and make their changes available - and they've done that. Their UI is different than FileZilla as is their featureset. It's not a direct copy and even if it was - under the GNU that would be fine so long as the source code is made available. It's up to the general public and the market to sort out. Bubby's post (intended to be humorous, but it is actually all they need to do) proves that they reference the source code.

Gray Area.... maybe. Blatant abuse of GNU? No Way.

Hi Folks -
I decided to try and do a fair, unbiased side-by-side comparison to see if I could find useful differences between the two programs. Logged into the same site on both. I do like the quick-icons at the top of Extra's page for adding things to queue, processing the queue, and so on. Those were handy, and could not find a way to replicate that on FileZilla. However, at the top of ExtraFTP's connection it even says, "(my login name)@webpages.charter.net - FileZilla." I tried to be fair about it, and had hoped to find something to redeem this program, but the top line buttons were all that was there of any interest. Uninstalled it. Keep trying, GOTD. I'll be back tomorrow to see what's new.. :)

I'm happy that I am able to download software that worth money every day for free, but I'm a bit disappointed that ExtraFTP is not full version. Where it says enter license name, its ok, because license number is provided in read me text, but to register this program I am asked to enter license code as well. And do not have a clue what is license code.
Thank You very much for reading this.
