Installs fine.
Registration easy.
Checking software and find that many settings are tailored and sent you to there Website.
Well no appreciation from me on that.
It is just not like when you buy the software because it is not the same obviously (looking to what the buttons should do)why would i want to give it a test and give Extra Software, Inc feedback?
It is a crippled version how can you give a accurate feedback on crippled software?

To 11. ODED try the name you used to comment with.
Thanks GOTD for the offer. I know there will be many complaints about converters/rippers being given away, but I for one like to check out new ones, to see if the quality is better or faster speeds, which are both always improving. There are lots of free ones but they never compare to the paid ones.
Thanks anyways Extra Software but this one is just too basic for me, but the offer is still appreciated.
And Thanks 5. Bob for the link, cool site.

@5 - Do you realize how illegal the site you are referring us to is. Were talking about movies not yet on DVD. The whole purpose of these converters are to help us backup movies we already own, not steal them.

Not to mention it is very stupid that you would refer us to a link that would automatically try to install virus prone anti-virus software that is going to attack our systems and leave us needing to get our pc's rid of this virus you have directed us to.

DO NOT CLICK ON #5 LINK. ITS ILLEGAL AND WILL ATTEMPT TO INSTALL A VIRUS!!

Back to the review of this software...
The GUI is straightforward and easy to navigate, but from personal experience, MPEG quality is not the greatest quality if you are looking for a good backup of your media. DIVX which is done through the AVI extension gives much better quality and sound.

But again, if you need another piece of software to run this, then this is not a complete package. Most other companies add in the extra software if needed, whether they relabel it or just include it in the backup process.

#3: "there is a freeware tool called HandBrake that can also be used to convert DVD to MPEG-4."

There are actually several tools available to re-encode, resize, & otherwise convert video from one format to another. Very few, & certainly not handbrake can handle DRM, so they cannot be called Rippers, even with a big stretch, & they cannot really be compared to today's GOTD. The same could be said of Super or Format Factory etc.

Without DRM many (most?) converters will work, but the only main source of non-DRM DVDs is if you record them yourself, which isn't that common. Because of that most people need some sort of ripping app, & either use that ripper to do the conversion too, or a 2nd program afterward. That's where Handbrake etc come in.

There are a few *Real* DVD rippers out there -- Extra DVD to MPEG Ripper isn't one of them. A real ripper works like ripping a CD, copying the original digital content to your hard drive. Extra's app plays the DVD & records it as it plays. DVDFab is a real DVD ripper, & just copying a DVD to your hard drive is free -- conversion features are share-ware... see videohelp.com for alternatives. Normally I don't take issue with these DVD re-recording apps, but that's because they usually are used for video conversion to a handheld -- you're losing so much quality making your video fit a 2" or so screen, why quibble about quality lost in the 1st step? Since an SVCD can look as good as a DVD when played on the average TV, it does matter.

[Note: the reason for an SVCD's somewhat odd size (480 width vs. 720) is that designers found the difference between them was often lost anyway in the cables to the TV. Using 480 makes the files smaller.]

That said, with CD blank media prices on the rise (in the US at least), if/when it costs $2 or $3 more for 100 DVDs compared to 100 CDs, why in the world bother to re-encode from DVD to SVCD in the 1st place?! Surely your time is worth more than 2 or 3 cents! [I know some places there may be more of a difference, or some valid reason, & if that's your situation I apologize as nec.]

Wow! Easy, pretty fast, yet excellent quality! I've been searching for a program like this for a long while and tried several DVD rippers. This is by far and away the simplest interface for beginners I've found. This program is totally amazing! This is a must have for those who want to rip DVD's!

There are many freewares with more features and this DVD Ripper is priced at $30.

Most of the DVD writers come with bundled softwares which usually have DVD and CD Rippers..

This Software is good but there are a lot of freeware softwares, which do same function as this do.

You can download and installit, but it is not much useful.
So I advice you if you have not downloaded it, don't install this.
Its processing is very slow. Ultimately, it slows down the speed of whole PC.

I got Wondershare DVD Ripper Platinum from Giveawayoftheday months ago. It is able to help me convert DVD to MPEG. Seems that Extra has also posted DVD ripping software here.

Actually, there is a freeware tool called HandBrake that can also be used to convert DVD to MPEG-4. But my friend told me it works great on a Mac and not so well on Windows.

Anyway, thank GAOTD team for offering this software for free today.

The Good
* Straightforward and easy to use.
* Can by-pass DRM protection.
* You can pick and choose which part of the DVD to "record".
* "Fast forwards" past the commercials at the beginning of DVDs.
* Has option to automatically shutdown computer after ripping of DVD is done.

The Bad
* Only allows you to do DVD -> VCD or SVCD; there is no DVD -> "general" MPEG.
* Needs a third party program to assist it in ripping region locked DVDs.
* Developer leaves vestigial features which lead to developer's website when clicked upon.
