Cool down buddy! I didn't mean to offend anyone!

Sure people have every right to rewards. But there's something called "Value for money". The domain of software development is pretty competitive especially with alternate freewares. So developers need to think twice before settling down on the price and features they are offering . There's nothing wrong with paying, but IMO, this software is a little over-priced.

Besides, you are always free to donate to the developers of the freewares, if you like their work.. :)

I'll agree with Athan (#25). There has to be some features added to it (like sorting videos) to make it worth the price.

Like Athan#25 you really can't go past Windows Live Photo Gallery.
And you can get it free, too.
Its importing function can 'sort' photos upon import into folders and subfolders - if required - but that's so much old school!
Folders are dead.
Cameras place a lot of information inside the jpeg files and WLPG can use those elements to sort and select your photos however you want to see them.
Folders are irrelevant - when you can get the same value other ways: time, place, tags, people... Every which-way.
Windows Live Photo Gallery.

What is meant here by sorting? Windows Explorer can sort by file name, date, size, and type. What other way is there?

I am having the same problem Lavarock7 had (above): Installed on Win7 and run a couple of times. I am getting an ocassional error: Cannot open file \settings.pss Access is denied.

I ran the setup program and had it install to my D drive. The software code in the program is still deafulting to the C drive for this error message. Can someone help? Or is it time to uninstal?

Thanks

Installed it on Vista Home Premium, Dell computer @ 2 GHz and 2 Gigs Ram. It installed and worked perfectly. I gave it 500 MB of pictures to sort and it was done in well under 2 minutes from the "Go" button.

I was pleased by how many different options there are for sorting and the options for how the output is labeled.

If you're looking for a sorter, disregard the low ratings and give it a try for yourself. Most of the "thumbs downs" were there shortly after it was posted this morning, I doubt many had even tried it. After all, its free and if you don't like it, you've lost nothing. Works well for me.

This software was too simple and with obvious interface and functionality limits and beside that the interface seemed to have strange glitches on my Windows 7 (When I drop down the list to select options I see empty space, I have no idea why the options are not showing up).
You may want to check out a clearly better alternative: Smart Photo Import. It can do the same and much more, it has an advance thumbnails browser and it can import or reorganize photos and videos in your pc. Supports Automatic renaming (by Date/Description/Serial), Can divide folders in tree by subject and Date in various options (even to the day), can automatically rotate pictures when importing or sorting and you can simply drag drop entire folders or files in it and have them reorganized. You can find Smart Import at www.nwspro.com

Installed easy. Copy and Pasted registration name and key successfully!
Ran program and chose three different directories with photos - found approximately 4000 photos (15 GB) in seconds.
Chose to leave sorting function at default settings but chose to move the photos to the program's default folder.
Took eight minutes to sort into 12 folders (sorted by year, some contained subfolders for months, I guess).
The 'not sorted' folder held 576 photos, almost all of these were copies of photos and didn't copy the exif data, screenshots or stuff taken off of the internet.
Overall, I think the program did a very good job and 15GB in eight minutes is pretty fast.
The ability to set your own sorting parameters is well worth having if you do a lot of photography or just have a lot of photos.

Haven't yet tried this guy, although from the comments it looks promising. I think a lot of us are the target audience for the product, whether there are free alternatives or not.

But I have to ask why a couple of you are so concerned because the file happens to be 5 MB? Who cares? That's an insignificant amount of space now - it would take two hundred programs like that to occupy a lousy gig of space. Of all the reasons to favor or to dislike today's offering, that argument strikes me as preposterous.

Installed as advertised on W7 ultimate. For those who had problems I suggest you look BEHIND the active window. You'll find a small window with instructions, username, and activation code. Tested with 976 pictures. Completed in about 2 minutes with average photo size about 2.6 MB.

I suggest that the authors work on the help file. It's very difficult to read -- make it user friendly; not user hostile.

This program is AMAZING!!! I allowed someone to "just check my email" on a laptop where I had approximately 15,000 pics stored that I had not gotten around to moving to an external hard drive. Somehow, this person managed to delete about 6000 of them AND EMPTY THE RECYCLE BIN when I turned m back for only a split second.

I used Recuva and was able to recover most of them, but thy were from several events and when recovered, Recuva put them into one huge folder. I have been slowly going through them one by one and sorting them, but it has been VERY slow and torturous. This software did it in less than five minutes!!!! It is AMAZING!

It installed fine on My Windows 7 Home Premium X64 laptop. Since I use Outpost Security Pro as my main malware program, I had to run the setup twice, but this is standard for GOTD offerings, I've found. The first time is to set the permissions, the second to install the program itself.

I really like that it did not try to change any text names that I already have created, and just changed default camera names which are usually brand prefix and numbers. Being a semi professional photographer and having taken thousands of digital images over the past decade, I found the program straight forward and easy to use. The options, like keep existing folder structure, make sense to me, since it just means keep the pictures in the same folder structures where you find them. Otherwise, create structures as needed. I really do not see how this command could be misunderstood by anyone who has many images on their computers from several different days of shooting.??

You can do much better without it:

Create your own folder, copy and paste into it, task done.

You can sort that folder by date or exif data without any software.

Same as comment (6) above. However, my software kept giving me warning that site was unsafe, also kept deleting each time I tried to download or load as well.

Tried downloading from their website site direct. Same results. However, having bypassed my security system I downloaded what I presumed to be the same version and was told as comment (6) again using the direct download.

The only reason I kept trying was the GAOTD trust factor. Guess will have to give it a miss.

Hi, #20 (Jogglover) - For some reason the "copy&paste" when registering is very sensitive here! (same happened to me), it took me several times to watch carefully where cursor was on "copy" (in both fields) exactly.

Worked in the end, so keep trying. Small problem being - there is no "about" button to see "where you are":)? But if "register" message disappears - you know, you're good.

#33 Thought I would give it another go, just in case there may have been a corrupted file or something in my system. Rebooted computer and repeated all of the steps and this time .....da da!!! 2 photos sorted. Interestingly, the only thing you can click on is the cancel button (everything else gives the "windows ding") but even that does nothing. Tried it on a different computer, this time a laptop but got the same result.

I installed this on Windows 7-64

Ran just fine...

I spent just a few minutes with it
before deciding on Picasa..

I'm not really sure what's easy about this.

Picasa installed and sorted all of my photos
(based on my criteria) in a matter of moments..

Today's software SEEMED to require me to select
folders individually from wherever they are stored
on my computer...

I'd have been here all day.

Images only have so many extensions - and those
extensions are relevant ONLY to images....

why make you go through each folder to find where
you have them???

In the time that it took to write this, Picasa
has finished - 358 folders on this computer alone -
two external hard drives...

sorry, I was wrong. Picasa was taking a wee break
more than 500 folders..

It would have taken me forever and a day to locate
them all with today's offer... unless there was a
setting somewhere that I didn't find...

No matter how much today's offer costs, I'd not
find it worthwhile - compared to what Picasa does
for free...

and, if you use Google+, Picasa has the added bonus
of tying into Google+...

SO, I'm uninstalling today's offer....

Thanks for sharing this with us GAOTD team :)

Downloaded, installed and registered ok on Windows 7 system. Selected parameters and started to sort. Window came up saying it was sorting photos. It got to 8 photos and appeared to freeze. Could not cancel so used Windows task manager to end programme. Tried again with same result except this time it only counted up to 7 out of 1394 photos before it appears to freeze. Left it for 45 minutes - came back and still stuck on 7 photos sorted. Oh well .... can't win all of the time

#20 &19: in Windows, if you click the top of any column in the explorer window it sorts by that; if you right-click any column you can add any file parameter to the display and sort by it, including original date and modified date and all the EXIF info as well. As bad as Windows is, it does everything this program does already. And the English is better in Windows.

Well, despite its current (misleading) low GAOTD users' rating, I found this software pretty good and handy for what it does: so THUMBS UP from me.

However, I would never spend 23 bucks for a product like this...

Why?? Simply because there are great and more powerful FREE ALTERNATIVES out there, that do much more things than this GAOTD without charging you a dime though....

Just to mention some of them, my "assistant" Andy missed to quote...LOL!

Thanks to Andy for that list of freebies. Picasa and IrfanView are indispensible for photographers, both read RAW files, and both are always free. Tried today's one. Frankly, with Picasa already out there and much more capable, I don't know why you would want to use this - and, as for paying for it - that would be idiocy. I know it's free today, but it's still not worth it.

#20 and #6, besides the registration key, don't forget to also copy and paste name, "Giveawayoftheday".

#13, thanks for the freebie, but honestly, who cares if 5MB, or a .5MB? It has been a long time since anyone had a hard drive less than 250GB, which could hold 50,000 copies of this program... and most of us have external storage in the TB's. Heck, I have pictures that require more storage memory than this program.

#19, maybe read my prior post #5 above. The date on your computer, or the date modified, is not often the date the photo was taken. This program reads the exif data from the digital image itself and with another exif program, you could go one step further and often pinpoint the place taken by the longitude and latitude.

Actually, for security reasons, this is why a lot of folks use an exif cleaner for their photos.

#5, Andy, thanks again... I enjoy going through the freebies you post.

An addition. If you simply need to sort your photos using date and time, you may do it without the use of any software in Windows.

Here's how you do it:

Step 1. Right click a folder (or right-click on a blank space after you open the folder). Go to Properties> Customize> Optimize this folder for> Pictures> Click 'ok' and close the dialog box. (No need to do this, if you already have your photos in the My Pictures default folder. If you do not want change folder properties, keep reading.)

Step 2: Open the folder> Right click in a blank space> Sort by Date> Right click in a blank space again> Group by date.

If you choose not to change folder properties, Right click in a blank space> Sort by Date Modified> Right click in a blank space again> Group by date Modified.
For additional options, you can always click the "More" option under both "Sort by" and "Group by".

There! And you are done. Just Cut/Copy and Paste. No extra burdens, err, softwares on the PC ;)

Have a great Valentines Day! :)

so I can find the photos taken by different people on a group trip,

Better yet, I'd like the ability to substitute the camera owner's name for the name of the camera.

Price is one of the biggest turns offs for a prospective buyer. People get drawn to freewares, if available. So developers need to think twice before settling down on the price and features they are offering.

So, here's a list of freewares with somewhat matches today's giveaway:

1. Adebis Photo Sorter ( http://www.adebis.com/photo_sorter/ )

2. Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com/ )

3. PhotoMove ( http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Digital-Photo-Tools/PhotoMove.shtml )

4. Photology ( http://photology.en.softonic.com/ )

5. Avalloc EXIF Sorter ( https://sites.google.com/site/avallocsoftware/avalloc_exif_sorter )

6. PhotoSorter ( http://strangesoft.weebly.com/photosorter.html ) - For direct use in a smartphone with Android

7. iPhoto ( http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/ )- There has to be some treat for Mac lovers too.

8. F-Spot ( http://f-spot.org/ ) - for GNOME Desktop/Free and Open Source

9. IrfanView ( http://www.irfanview.com/ ) - for all the lovers of portable software.

So, why should someone go for a paid software or free for a limited time with a restriction that it cannot be upgraded in future (or pay for it if you need to upgrade) when freewares are there in the cyberworld (with a lot of better and powerful options)?

After reading all that, if you are really desperate to buy, go for, Thumbs Plus 8 ( http://www.cerious.com/featuresv7.shtml )

Cheers and have great day! :)

WinXPSp3 installed registered ok. Before trying you would presume this should be simple to use , but it is annoying if you dont get the results you expected .

I was more interested in the renaming option. However this program is obsessed with dates. It sorted photos that were numbered into separate sub folders and renumbered them ok , however anything with a name on the photo ended up in a folder called unsorted.

Nobody sorts their photos by date , you put them in a folder with a place name or topic name. There is no apparent help file to explain the sub presets, etc. The sign of a good program is easy to use and you dont need to consult a help file. I have not the time to fiddle around with it or get annoyed experimenting , but it is a keeper to fiddle with at a later date.

I suggest they include a help file and a link to their website within the program to a video showing all it can do.

A good photo sorter, but the size of the program is too big -- 5MB. A free alternative, Adebis Photo Sorter, with the same function and speed, is only 0.5 mb.

Hey, I'm sold. I have yet to even download it (lol). But when I've tried it I'll be back.

Nice & fast small software.
I liked it & will advise to install it if you have many photos scattered on your HD.
