One thing makes this all but useless...when you hit playback it opens a dialog window to select what macro to play...if you need to play a simple macro frequently, this defeats the purpose because you are always having to deal with the stupid dialog window. It should be designed so that a hotkey can be assigned to each macro so that one key press will start playback AND select which macro.

This is all a moot point for me because when I start record, the mouse buttons no longer work...when I stop record, the mouse buttons work again...and yes, I double checked all settings in "options".... I am running WIN7-64..... I am wondering if this is due to the fact that I am using "Slim Blade" track ball software rather than a conventional mouse.

As others have noted, simple recording and playback may not be enough to automate a set of actions (especially if clicks are dependent on the relative positions of mouse and button). AutoIt gives a lot of programmability, but it is for programmers. I've not trialed them yet, but there are a couple of open source projects which seek to simplify macro programming, by using "visual" building of macros (rather than writing code):

http://mayhem.codeplex.com/

and

http://sikuli.org/

As there is quite often discussion and pointers to alternative software, I thought it worth drawing attention to:

http://alternativeto.net/

(through which I found sikuli).

Correction - I double checked the options settings, and "very fast" was not checked. So correcting this did significantly speed things up. It still is surprising that a relatively simple copy a file from one drive to another created a massive amount of macro code, with all these random waits between almost every line.

It sort of works, but as pointed out above it does a lot of really weird stuff, and has random waits (anywhere between 33 and 2327 milliseconds in my test file) between every friggin macro line of code. Setting the options to FAST, does not seem to help anything. Execution is terribly slow.

It really is perfect.

It is far the best of all programs mentioned here incl the GAOTD

PS I have created a nifty excel "to do list" that lets you very easily change priorities of tasks, set priorities sub levels, and allows tasks due on a specified date to float to the top as the due date gets closer - is there any site we can share and submit stuff like this - and program suggestions / recommendations - apart from GOTD? Gino?

I've been waiting for one of these programs that can do a simple specific task - click my mouse button on a specific screen location at a specific set time in the future, to the exact second - I dont think this app can do that:(

I don not have a use for this program so I can not comment on it; for those that are having trouble with this, and don't mind copy and paste there is a program called multi commander that you might give a try, it is a free download.

#13: ?? Your logic cracks me up! We are supposed to be evaluating the commercial software based on the price is charges 364 days of the year. Gio and others compare costly programs with the free ones, which is the true measure of their value. Pretzel logic renders a one day a year giveaway (intended promote the software at commercial prices and also garner suggestion/criticism for improvements) can't seriously expect to render the software equivalent to real 'free'programs?

Hi again, Thanks especially to August Mohr(#25), AugustusPoirot(#22) and Others who took their time to explain in greater details how They would use Easy Macro Recorder, or similar to it Programs.

Some Developers pop in here on their days of Giveaway to offer help, or answer questions about their Software.. Today, when perhaps such presence would be really appreciated(?) - it seems we have learned something interesting (I have anyway:) and useful from Members of this Forum alone. Many thanks for that!

Back in the day when hardly anyone that I worked with knew much about computers, I automated my entire job by writing my own clunky program - I would loved to have a little program like this. I won't say what I did since I didn't have to work, but I never had a complaint and always got good reviews. Tee hee hee!

I can see this coming in handy for bringing up all my daily tasks, and then just shuting them down one by one when I am done. For instance, if I want to check the weather, get today's news feed, and then hop onto facebook, I can have internet explorer open up the 3 tabs and then just close each tab when I am done. I hate it when I forget to check the weather and have to go all the way back upstairs to my apartment to grab a coat or umbrella (yeah, I don't usually look out the window much when I am getting ready).

I will be trying this one.

It really makes me laugh when I read some of these responses... Developers offer their software for free in a sort of Beta testing operation. They have already done the actual Beta testing to insure that their software works properly but now they are looking for feedback from actual users as to what they like or don't and suggestions to make it better. They do not want to just give their software away out of kindness, they are looking for feedback. You are "paid" for this by being able to try the software for free and then being able to keep it. It also gives you an opportunity to try out potentially expensive software to see if it does something you like or need. I have purchased software for over $200USD only to find out it did not do what I needed and was stuck with it. Nothing really hard to understand here if you have half a brain.

GOTD is not a leeching site, it is a "try before you buy, through evaluation" site. You give feedback - you get free software. Stupid questions and whiny comments need not apply. If you don't like the concept, go play script kiddie on pirate sites. Otherwise, leave feedback or suggestions and be happy you get something potentially useful for free.

More on this junk. I tried to change "Hello World" in the editor. You can only do that by pre-writing the script lines: KeyUp Shift;KeyDown KeyUp p ... for the entire string, pasting it in ONE LINE AT A TIME then deleting the original. When you begin recording you have to move the mouse to your document then click to set focus, then begin your text. All that movement and clicking is recorded so you can NEVER type in the intended space without editing out those first movements. Otherwise the pointer tracts from where the "Record" button was on the screen to where you typed during the recording. The more I play with this program, the more I hate it. It is history.

I was happy to see the software offered today since I have been doing repetitive clipping, sizing, pasting, and saving the last week.

I gave it a try (ok, I tried at least 7 or 8 times) and it would not allow the program keys to recognize the mouse click when recording (the program wouldn't cut and paste for example) so I could not move on to the next step.

I would close the recorder and try it without the easy macro recorder and no problem, the program I was using was just fine. If I can't get the program I am using to do the work I need done because the keys are not responding to input, this easy macro recorder is useless.
Sorry, but I will try another better recorder that will recognize mouse clicks.

Too bad, I was looking forward to this program.

As an example of how this MIGHT be useful.

This is an outline of an automation that I created last year in AutoIt3. It is similar to an automation that I had created a few years ago in QuicKeys.

I DO NOT KNOW if this could be created in today's product. I believe NOT because someone has asked for an IF command to be added to today's product. My automation depends heavily on using IF.

My AutoIt3 automation does this:

I open MS Outlook and press my Hot Key. AutoIt3 does the keystrokes to tell Outlook to export my calendar for a date range of the previous week. If today is Monday, it exports from last Monday to Sunday, yesterday. It tells Outlook to export in CSV format and automatically selects the SAVE folder and types in a file name based on today's date.

Then AutoIt3 opens MS Excel with the newly saved file and deletes a bunch of columns that Outlook automatically exports. It then adds some calculation functions to empty columns and copies them down as far as there is data in other columns. Then AutoIt3 steps down the rows and wherever it finds a date change it inserts two blank lines and then in the upper line it inserts a SUM function. When it gets to to the bottom of the data, it inserts a more complicated SUM function.

As a result, by pressing one hotkey in Outlook, AutoIt3 creates a timesheet for the week for me in Excel, with daily and weekly totals, separated in different columns by projects and clients. What used to take me an hour a week, often when I did not really have the time, is now a press of a hotkey.

I do not believe that today's offering can do this, but I offer it as an example of why someone would be interested in being able to replay mouse movements and keystrokes.

Worthless junk! I saved the readme file, recorded a macro to re-save. It took more work to run the macro than it does to save in the first place. The macro did not even locate the window. The pointer wondered around the desktop blindly. You cannot copy lines in the macro editor - only delete and paste. My simple macro contained over 300 lines of "MouseMove" and "Wait" with a couple of "LButtonDn"s near the end. It took 17 seconds to playback. My "Hello World!" macro had 223 lines of "MouseMove" and "wait" before the first letter was typed. It took 8 seconds and did not type where the mouse was located. It moved back to it's desktop coordinates.

"Did you find this comment useful" WOW. At this writing the very first comment is someone JUST listing better alternatives.
In Who's opinion?
Where is your very useful in-depth review?
How is that comment useful to anyone who would like to know what this program is like? What it does? Does it work well or poorly? GAOTD allows us to try software and give reviews based on our trial. Whatever happened to that?

@#9 - Me, too. The real benefit for me at present will be using it in spreadsheets. I can't afford to purchase the powerful full use spreadsheets and I must use those that came loaded from Microsoft ie: Office and Works. Both of these have a spreadsheet program, but because they're "free" the ability to write macros is not part of the program.

I need to keep lists - LONG lists - of items I own. These lists must be sorted different ways depending on what I'm doing at the time. Many of the items I want to put into my spreadsheet (games, for instance) are listed in my account on the site. However, they have a lot of other "junk" along with the title and date of purchase. So, I've been stuck with typing them, one by one, from my account list. And starting over when I have another HD meltdown.

With this little piece of heaven, I can cut and paste my whole list of games at one time, use this software to delete the words "purchase date" for example which are used for every entry, but which I don't need on my spreadsheet, and IT WILL DO IT FOR EVERY ENTRY AUTOMATICALLY. That means that the titles on the site I have purchased over 600 games from can be copied, pasted, and edited in about 10 minutes instead of 10 hours of tedius repetitive deletions.

I'm jumping on this one. It's what I've been missing ever since I had to give up the Excel I used at the office (before retirement).

Thank you GoldSolution and GOTD for a great offering today. You have given me back the power I used to have when working with spreadsheets and data entry.

I have three groups of email addresses (about 50 contacts each) to which I regularly send the same emails, because WindowsLiveMail has a max of 50 addresses per email. Would it be possible to use a macro-recorder for sending an email to each of the three groups, given that the letter being sent is totally different each month?

Hi, I guess, unless you have specific need for Programs such as this one - anything that "records" all operations of your mouse and keystrokes can either aid you, amaze you, amuse you, or.. freak you out?

I did use similar Program in the past and decided it wasn't for me. You might have guessed - it freaked me out!:)
On top of it I don't use automated tasks on my PC to massive extend, and using a lot of photo/artistic Programs recording my steps anyway (history), or taking snaps of my progress if needed - I personally wouldn't have use for Easy Macro Recorder? Anything I write (seriously write) - automatically backs up my progress, so am I missing the point of this specific Program? Would anyone use it to "remember" filling Forms? Billing(!?) That's where I would have problems.. with Program keeping records of keystrokes..! That's where I wouldn't want my computer automatically "do tasks for me".. So far (and from description of Program itself) - it's quite vague. To me anyway.

Saying: "Allows you to do things that are tedious or time-consuming without actually doing them yourself" - and not giving examples of these "tings" - leaves one pondering what is "tedious and time-consuming".. making endless cups of tea?, lol, only joking.
Simple question: What's the real use of it?

#13, possibly you didn’t know this, but the program is…wait for it…FREE...for TODAY ONLY! What happens if your harddrive crash..or you want to update to a later version? That is probably why someone said “why pay 30 bucks…”. And it always cracks me up when you guys say that it is free today here on GOTD, but in the long run it isn't. I like to understand this kind of software, so...
1st, I think, what function do I use a lot that could be more simple to use with a macro recorder...
2nd, I know, that shortcuts need 2 click to open any program, (based on that the most used shortcuts is on the desktop)...
3rd, I try, that combination of clicks that make my Regedit.exe & Notepad.exe programs run as I like them to do...

Pros
I can combine those 4 clicks to be only 2 clicks

Cons
I cant do anything while the macro routine is doing a task, because that will do some weird things...

Overall
I perfer programs like Ashampoo Gadge It. This program can do a lot more than than the macro recorder and it make your programs start with one 1 click, cool...

I downloaded and installed this program a few years ago and at first didn't have much use for it, but then my son got me playing one of those FB games. And guess,I discovered that it can ease the burden of some of the clicking considerably, especially since it's so easy to record a macro.

Yes, it's position oriented and not window oriented, but it also doesn't need any big science to get going. For me it's a gem. I just hope it really works on Windows 7 since in the earlier version the keyboard doesn't respond.

But I just wanted to give the heads up and I will definitely recommend a download to some of friends in the game.

Today's giveaway is a nice program that does what it said pretty well.

It takes a reasonable small amount of resources and it's very easy to use, thanks to its awesome help file.

So THUMBS UP from me!!!!

..... but.....

.... LOL .....

... as usual I was wondering....

... why pay 30 bucks if you can do the same things and more with excellent freeware like Do It Again and/or (Portable) TinyTask ???

* Do It Again
http://www.spacetornado.com/DoItAgain/

* Portable TinyTask (because PORTABLE is better....)
http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/Multimedia/Video/Portable-TinyTask.shtml

So, with this FREE PORTABLE VERSION, this cool app can be run from a USB drive, meaning you can take your own recorded MACROS with you as you move from one PC to another and then play them back at any time on any system as standalone .exe files, in order to perform frequently and tedious common tasks without using your keyboard and mouse all the time.

Great way to save time and effort on any PC at any time without paying a dime for that, unlike this GAOTD!!

Cool, isn't it??

Enjoy!!

I use these macro programs for complicated movement of data. For example I had data on a spreadsheet that needed to be transferred into a web form that had many fields, and I could not cut and paste the whole spreadsheet. So I used a macro to go to the spreadsheet, copy one cell, move to the web form, paste the information, move down one step in the web form, back to the spreadsheet, move down one cell copy data etc etc etc. The macro does this kind of data transfer very easily.

I tried this long ago, but found it lacking, simply because it also records the time between mouse movements and keystrokes. So if you record any macro that involves the internet, you have to record it very slowly to allow for a page that might load slowly the next time. If a page fails to load in time, the macro will just keep going on its own clicking windows or buttons that don't exist yet.

AutoHotKey is powerful BUT can also be simple to use.
I ONLY use it for automatic generation of typed input which it inserts with no special action on my part other than typing in the macro.
Example: Semicolon followed by a letter or letters will instantly generate the desired string so semicolon ap generates "555-123-4567(Home)" It will generate multi-line results too.

I have used this in the past from a previous giveaway. Like any other programs it has it's pluses and minuses. Each user can decide how useful it will be for them.

A few notes on the installation... if you have an earlier giveaway version, the installation will step on your previous code and set it back to a demo version. The readme file says to enter the key in the options screen in the lower left. I had no area in the lower left to enter this key. Instead, I started the program and then exited. When i started the program a second time, I was greeted with the screen to enter the key. It was accepted with no problems.

All in all I am happy to use this program. I don't use it everyday but when I do have a use for it, it does well. Thank you very much to the GAOTD team for all that you do for us. Thank you to the publisher, GoldSolution Software, for your gift.

Way back when (going back at least 5 years or more) this was my favored macro program; reliable AND easy to use. If you've used this category before, you know that neither of these attributes describes most of the available choices -- free or paid -- and especially not together.

Over the last few years I lost track of it; moving to AutoHotKey for its power BUT, IMHO, this is still the easiest macro program around. If you've got repetitive tasks, this thing is worth far more than what you'll pay for it here.

Give it a try is my suggestion.

Finally - a program that can press that freakin' button.

One catch: the program has no auto-recognition for programs or windows. So you have to manually run a macro for actions to take place.

The only way to automatically press a freakin' button, is to automatically run the program at Windows user login and let it play the recorded macro automatically. There's an option for that.

This way, if you are annoyed by one or more programs that automatically run at windows startup AND need a button pressed (which annoys you), now it is possible. Also very convenient for nag-screens and shareware reminders. Again: only automatically at user logon!

You might want to start Easy Macro Recorder with Windows Scheduler and delay its start so you are certain all programs have started before it plays your macro to press all things that need to be pressed.

Thank you for this little gem and... Peace!

Devvie

Here are some better alternatives, a couple of which are free:

http://www.raymond.cc/blog/make-your-computer-automatically-perform-tasks-for-you/

And take a look at this little freeware macro recorder called TinyTask (it's only 33KB in size!!!):

Nothing against today's publisher, but much more advanced macro recorders can be had for free.
